Jerry was very polite and gave an accurate estimate. He was able to accommodate my schedule and came out to do the work about a week later. It was performed well and he was able to fix a couple of sagging door frames and also give me advice about light fixtures in my basement. He cleaned up well and it's great to have things working again! I was able to use the Rent A Handyman coupon and got a lot of good quality work done for a good price. I'm already making a list of future projects for Jerry!
Description of Work: Replaced two hallway light fixtures, replaced outdoor motion sensor patio light, installed new kitchen sink and disposal and repaired rotted trim on shed door.

Jason did an outstanding job. He started with door and trim painting, and while the paint was drying between coats he would move to the next job. He always keeps busy and did not waste any time, yet was careful to do good job without rushing to finish. He paid attention to details while being very neat with each job. He cleaned up after each days work, and left everything clean at the end of the job. He was very professional and skilled in his work. Used good time management in completing his assigned tasks. In addition, Jason was extremely polite and mannerly to all members in our family. Overall, I would rate his quantity, quality, and dependability top notch! Please extend our appreciation to Jason for a job well done. Tom Greene
Description of Work: Jason was given a long list of jobs from door repair, door replacement, door painting, trim painting, wall and ceiling painting, and a little electrical. He painted two of our bedrooms, painted 4 doors, painted door trim and baseboard trim, and repaired an electrical outlet that need to be extended.

I was contacted by Jim Williams to schedule a free estimate within a few days of original call. We scheduled work to be done one week after acceptance of the proposal. I purchased $150 supply store gift card to cover material expenses as down payment for work. Jim and his crew showed up on time and performed the wood rot/painting work over two day period. Scheduled work on the miscellaneous plumbing jobs during the same week. After completion of all jobs, we noticed one board that had not been replaced and requested additional caulking under one window. Jim returned two weeks later (weather precluded fixing earlier) to finish the job to our satisfaction. Overall, we felt comfortable with Rent A Handyman throughout the process and would rate the experience "Good".
Description of Work: Removed and replaced window trim & siding boards with PVC wrapped boards due to wood rot ($1,150). Caulk and paint all new repairs as well as upper window seals as needed ($575). Charge $69 an hour for miscellaneous sink and stool repairs. There was a material estimate of $150 for all jobs.

After my initial call, I received a call from Robert regarding an estimate. He was there within a day, and the estimate followed very soon thereafter. He told me he'd start and finish the job the following week, and he did just that. It took him two days as he said it would, and I was very pleased with his work. His estimate was considerably less than another I received, so I was doubly pleased.
Description of Work: I had them replace a set of outdoor stairs from a 2nd story door.

General job management went poorly. Signed contract in mid-Feb and the job was supposed to start 3/12/07, but didn't start until 3/16/07 (they did call, but with so much advance notice, this was an unexpected inconvenience.) The electrician on the job, Tim, was excellent and I would highly recommend him! The person who ran the job, however, Jason, was horrible! He was highly inorganic, didn't seem to write things down and forgot them when he did. The electrician was constantly picking up the slack. As I said, I would highly recommend the electrician, but would never again use Jason. In the end, I was presented with a bill for $1400.00, even though we had previously agreed to $1300.00. Jason's lack of organization and follow through made the job very tense. My overall experience with the electrician was an A, with the project manager an F. I think you just need to ask for a different project manager.

Jim was the company man who quoted the job. He seemed knowledgeable and professional when he bid the work but we were 'put off' by his request for payment the second day on the job for work that wouldn't be complete until the end of that day. It had something to do with their pay day but we didn't think that was our problem. But as far as the work went, we couldn't be more pleased. Corey did a beautiful job on every project. He was friendly, polite and professional and got the job done efficiently. We were very pleased with the quality of the work and the pricing was very competitive with other firms.
Description of Work: There were numerous jobs completed at our home - the tradesman, Corey (don't know his last name), replaced or repaired drywall and painted, replaced dry-rot batten board outside and painted, removed and replaced shower stall, repaired and painted outdoor deck/balcony.

They did a great job. We decided to just do the work on an hourly project since it was a bunch of small projects. The guy who did the work recommending simplifying one of the projects. He finished all the projects and it cost somewhat less than I thought it would. I asked them to bid on some insulation work, but he said it would be cheaper to work with another company. He gave me a recommendation for that work. They were great to work for. I'd definitely use them again.
Description of Work: They did a bunch of miscellaneous projects around the house including hanging some shelves, fixing an opening, rehanging a door, caulking a countertop and working on a shower.

He showed up on time and got right to work. He did the job and was very capable. He had to drill through the ceramic tile to install them and did great work. They came out separately to remove a gas fireplace in our basement. We then discussed installing a tub and then hired them to do so. Jim Williams is the key man, great to work with. He is very knowledgeable. The job kept expanding because we added new work to the punch list. We've really done everything on our own up until now and were going to purchase the tub ourselves, but he was able to get it from a supplier and saved us $1000 on the tub! Approximate cost includes materials. They did an excellent job and were detailed in their paperwork. I would definitely hire them again.

The company responded promptly to my telephone inquiry. Jason Cook came to the house at an agreed upon time and wrote a proposal. He asked my preferences when there were options, recommended replacement of a wood-rot-damaged window frame in conjunction with the siding and bid that extra work at a very reasonable rate. He performed the work just as we agreed, was responsive to my questions and very professional in his demeanor and workmanship - he is a very nice guy and did good work. I'm very pleased with the result and recommend Jason and Rent A Handyman highly!

The contract specified that payment was not provided until work was done. However, the agent, Jim Williams, asked for full payment a day before the work was completed; fully paying for work before completion goes against the contract and the common sense of any consumer. We would hire the company for other types of work, with reservations.
Description of Work: Update to prior report. The contract amount was solely for labor costs; we bought the supplies and fixtures ourselves. The original contract date was mid April 2006 but the actual date of remodeling was mid May 2006.

Handyman was on time, but left gutter hanger brackets loose and did not caulk gutter seam that he took apart. Handyman made several appointments to correct problems, but didn't show up or call. I RECEIVED A CALL BACK IMMEDIATELY. I WAS IMPRESSED AT THE RESPONSIVE SERVICE. EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND WAS PROFESSIONAL WHEN I MET DOUG FOR THE ESTIMATE. I TRUST THAT THEY WOULD HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB. BUT, THE COST CAME IN OVER DOUBLE WHAT 4 OTHER HANDYMEN QUOTED ME. I HAVEN'T HAD THE WORK STARTED YET, AND PERHAPS RENT A HANDYMAN MIGHT DO A BETTER JOB THAN ANY OF THE OTHER COMPETITORS, BUT I WAS JUST TRYING TO FIX IT UP TO SELL IT. $2300 WAS TOO MUCH AND THE HIGHEST QUOTE I RECEIVED FROM OTHER HANDYMEN WAS $870. AGAIN, I AM SURE IT WOULD HAVE LOOKED WONDERFUL, BUT AGAIN, I AM JUST TRYING TO FIX IT UP ENOUGH TO SELL THE HOUSE.
