Paul was a dream to deal with. He was on time to our appointment (early even!) and provided detailed estimates for multiple projects within several days after our initial meeting. Weather impacted our start date a bit, but he kept me informed of the status and even worked weekend days to make up for our weather delay. He cleaned up the area so that you couldn't tell there had been major work done, and the quality of the stone work he provided is amazing. I can't believe he took what he began with and turned it back into a beautiful stone wall! The result of his work as well as his attention to customer service far exceeded my expectation. I plan on using him again for future projects.
Description of Work: Repaired and extended stone walls that were badly in need of attention.

I hired this company because of Angie's List. He is very responsive. He is also very expensive. Considering how expensive he is and all the good reports he has I was disappointed that the mortar on my wall and at the top 1.5 feet of my chimney does not even come close to matching the existing mortar. I thought it might cure and change over time but one year later it is still quite evident where repair was done.

Paul Hopkins showed up for the estimate exactly when he said he would. He called the next day with a price, which was in line with other estimates. We set up the job start for about two weeks out, recognizing that it could vary by a day or so depending if the jobs he was working on before ours experienced any weather delays. They didn't, so our job actually ended up being moved ahead one day. His assistant showed up early that day and set up the scaffold, while Paul was picking up the bricks and flue tile. They worked hard all morning, and Paul even disassembled the older part of the chimney in order to integrate the old bricks (which aren't available anymore they have a very distinct lined pattern on the sides) with the new ones. We're very, very pleased with the results you can't tell that the chimney is new; it just looks like its always been there. They cleaned up and blew all of the crud off the roof and also out of the gutters.
Description of Work: Added about 2 feet of brick and flue and re-installed chimney caps and damper cord to 85 year old chimney, which had become too short when a second story room was added to our house and the new roof line covered up a lot of the existing chimney.

I contacted Paul Hopkins to request an estimate for chimney repair. He returned my call promptly and said he would stop by to look at my chimney and give me an estimate. Two or three days later, I had the estimate. It was slightly lower than two other estimates I had received, and his analysis of what needed to be done seemed more reasonable to me than the other two. When I called to accept the quote and give the "go ahead", Paul put me on his schedule for approximately two weeks from that day. He called again a few days prior to the work date to confirm. Naturally, it rained on the scheduled work day, but again Paul called and said they would come the next day. They did. The work was finished that afternoon. Everything was left clean. While I didn't climb onto the roof to do an up-close inspection, the work seemed to be well done and the chimney looks good. I was very pleased with this company.

It was great. Paul was prompt with being able to come out to give me an estimate and was able to schedule a date to do the work 2 weeks after I confirmed what I wanted done. The 2 chimneys were in the most dire need of repair. I will have some other tuck-pointing done on an exterior wall this fall. Paul kept me informed about his schedule because all of the rain had caused him to have to delay getting to my project by 2 days. He was very clean about his work and it looks great. A big relief to have that project taken care of. I will use Paul again and will recommend him to others needing tuck-pointing and other masonry work done.

Paul is super responsive and very knowledgeable. He was able to fit me into his schedule quickly, made the repairs quickly and has answered all my questions since. He's even talked with my plumber about repairs that needed to be made to the gas line and offered to stop by and help if necessary. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Paul did a great job, cleaned up when he was finished, and his work appears to be very good (much better than whoever did the tuck pointing before we bought the house). Very professional and gave us advice on some other masonry questions we had. He seems a bit expensive, so we weren't able to have him do our chimney work yet, but we do feel that he is trustworthy and gets the job done right.

They did terrific work, were timely, and tidy. In order to replace the chimney cap, they needed to erect a very tall scaffolding. The multi-story scaffolding had to be placed over the top of my weeping cherry. They did not hurt a branch. Paul is extremely competent and personable. I will hire him again, as we will need more brick work done. I felt entirely comfortable leaving Paul a key to let himself in the house.

Paul Hopkins fit us into his schedule very quickly, showed up on time, and promptly returned my phone calls. Although it was kind of a messy project, he left no trace that he was ever here except for the beautiful job he did. I don't know how much a good mason charges (I figure I paid about $150-200/hour) but am very happy with the job he did.

Last year I had gotten several estimates that ranged from $200 to $480. I hired the guy who gave the $200 estimate, but he never showed up. This year, I had Paul do the work. He was prompt at returning calls. They came and finished the work on schedule. The cracks were on the most exposed part of the house, but they were able to match the color so that you couldn't tell any repairs were made. Well worth the extra cost.
