Description of Work: Purchased new furniture for the Livingroom. Service was great and price was right on the money for the quality. If you are looking for high quality furniture at a good price try Orman's.

Description of Work: I shopped for a dining room table at this store, that was "going out of business." I returned with my husband 10/28/06 to buy a table that was on sale, for $6781. The salesperson said they'd be closing by the end of the year. She gave me the price for "10" chairs, that were with the table and were supposed to be on sale, and she wrote up the sales order. I pointed out that there were only 8 chairs. T. Orman got involved and placed a special order for 10 chairs to be made, at a cost of $6537 and I paid a deposit of $2289. I told him what color to have the chairs stained. This was a Saturday night, after closing. He said he would call Monday to tell me when the chairs would be ready and regarding fabric options for chair seats. I waited for his call. He had 3 working phone numbers for me. I finally called him Thursday. He said he had been playing "phone tag" with the factory. He quoted me the wrong stain color and I had to convince him that I really did want the color I'd already told him about Saturday. He didn't ask about the fabric for the seats. He said the chairs would be ready in 10-14 weeks and I had no problem with that, but had some concerns that the company would be out of business by then. I then learned from a friend that he had been "going out of business" for years. I called the next morning after my Thursday call to Orman and faxed him, saying I wanted to cancel the order. He left a message saying the order was not cancelable because the factory had "segregated the chairs for sanding." People in the furniture business know that such an order IS cancelable within that time frame. My husband left several messages for Orman. Orman never tried to find out why we didn't want the chairs, never called and talked to me, period. Once he'd had me sign on the dotted line, he apparently thought he had no obligation to provide customer service. When the table was delivered, I deducted what I'd paid on the deposit for the chairs from the balance due for the table. He sent me threatening letters, threatened to take me to court in Kansas and I had to pay an attorney for that. Then, he did take me to small claims court in Missouri. With my signature on the sales order, (which I found out later was a "contract"), saying the order was noncancelable, I was ordered to pay him $2289. Tim Orman is an opportunist who operates a high end furniture store like a cheap discount store. His contract says the company "does not recognize 'pain and suffering, inconvenience, irritation, fatigue with the process...Life's inconsistencies can be seen as temporary setbacks or cause for suffering. Pain is unavoidable in life, suffering is optional." I wish I HAD read the "contract" in advance, to find out what kind of person we were dealing with.
