Frank was the best contractor experience we have ever had, and we've worked with plenty of contractors. Frank had positive reviews on Angie's list and when I looked at his website I found a picture of a cabinet with the color stain I was looking for. My husband contacted Frank and he came over and gave us a bid. His bid was fair considering the number of cabinets we had to stain. Frank came over and took two doors and stained them a darker brown stain that still showed the wood grain - just the look I wanted after viewing several new homes on a realtor site. Both door colors were nice but one was perfect. We set a date for Frank to come over and pick up our doors and drawers, he worked on them for a week. On Monday Frank came over as planned and taped our kitchen from top to bottom, he truly cared about making sure there was no damage. He spent a week HAND staining our cabinets, cleaning up every night and even cutting the paper around our microwave so we could use it. The end result is FABULOUS, we could not love our cabinets more; everyone who has seen the change can't believe it. Frank was a joy to work with and took great care to ensure there were no quality issues. I hope to post before and after pictures, once I figure out how to include them with my review, so everyone can see why we are so pleased with the results.
Description of Work: We had golden oak cabinets like a lot of homes build in the 90's. We are making our house more contemporary and we hired Frank to restain our cabinets a darker stain.

Frank came and gave us a bid. Told us when he could begin and then did exactly what he told us he would do when he said he would do it. We have searched for years for someone willing to refinish our cabinets and I am so pleased that we found Frank. His work is outstanding. This look like brand new cabinets.

Frank is fantastic! Unlike many of the bigger companies, when you hire NAP Painting, you get Frank...not some guy you haven't seen before. We had decided that it was time for our kitchen to be upgraded with new countertops, backsplash, and paint; but what to do with the cabinets? Our cabinets are beautiful solid oak but, in keeping with what was popular at the time, were stained a golden oak with a laquer top coat which had faded, yellowed and chipped. We had gotten other bids from other painters, but they all wanted to apply the "paint and glaze" technique. We were more interested it keeping the wood look and keep the natural grain exposed. Frank came in and showed us how he could apply a stain over our existing stain (as long as we were going darker) and maintain that look. After talking with him for about an hour, he gave us a bid and took a couple of doors with him to make samples of different colors. Within a week, he brought those doors back and we made our choice. While he could have done the job earlier, we wanted to delay the project until after the holidays so on Jan 9, 2012 he came back and collected all of our doors and drawers to work on at his home shop. The following week, he came back and spent an entire day taping and masking everything...floors, walls, countertops, appliances, etc. After that, he spent an entire day deep cleaning the woodwork...dusting, vacumming, and chemical wash followed by a light scuff coat sanding. He then sprayed a seal/bonding coat over the woodwork which helps the stain absorb and bond to the old finish. Two coats of stain, another seal coat, and two coats of urethane later and he was finished. Start to finish time was about 3 weeks, but actual time in the house was about 10 days. Frank is very conscientious about the impact of this type of project on your lifestyle. He uses only low odor materials (we never noticed any residual odor during the project) and walled off the other areas of the house with plastic sheeting to keep dust and mess confined just to the kitchen area. He also uses a large exhaust fan to duct dust out of the house and while there was a fine coat of dust in the rooms adjacent to the kitchen, it was minimal and MUCH better than when we had the floors refinished a couple of years ago. He cleaned up every day before leaving and opened up the "temporary walls" so we still had easy access to the kitchen if we needed. We also added some natural wood window trim to the project and he was able to work that in and still get it done in the original timeframe. Because we live literally at opposite corners of the city from each other, he arrived about 9 am every day and left about 3:30 or 4 pm but his day didn't end when he left, he'd go back to his shop and work on the doors and drawers every night!! The end result is fantastic!! We love the new look and it was probably a third of the cost of new cabinets. I can't recommend Frank and NAP Painting highly enough!! His bids are competitive (if not cheap) and he is personable, trustworthy, honest and hardworking. If you're looking for a contractor to refinish your cabinets, look no further...you've found him!!!

Jim and I were over the top pleased with this man. He is meticulous in all aspects of his work, treating your home like his own. He removed all cupboard doors and hardware and took the doors to his workshop at home. He then started work in the kitchen, taking one whole day to prep and I mean prep, covering all flooring and wallpaper (no easy task) and any other surface not to be treated. He worked on the cupboard bases first, then moved on to the woodwork. He arrived every morning at 8:00 and left each evening by 4:30-5:00 range making sure to clean up his day's work so we could still live in the area. We are so thrilled with his work. He went out of his way to fix little things he found along the way to make the job look amazing. We have received many compliments, it looks like a brand new kitchen. We hope to use Frank again on another of his talents in painting.
Description of Work: Frank came to our home to estimate a refresh for our kitchen. He showed up promptly at the time designated. He brought samples with him and made suggestions to my thoughts. He painted all of our kitchen cupboards and then tea stained them. He painted our island in another technique. He then painted all of our woodwork a cream to match the rest of the woodwork in the house.
