I contacted Glenn and Mountain Construction as they'd done a significant remodel on our house's basement. This engagement was the second time we've used Mountain Construction. Glenn put together a project plan, was able to get the appropriate trades in place as due to the nature of the unit, there were some specialized tasks that needed to be done as part of the install such as having a chimney sweep come in for some of the flue work. Glenn had promised us no later than the end of January, the project was complete around the 10th. We got to use the unit to heat most of our home for the coldest part of the winter. As I noted previously, this was our second time using Mountain Construction and we both couldn't be happier with their work. The project was delivered on budget (initial quote was around $4500) and ahead of schedule. We had no problems using the unit at all through the remainder of the winter.
Description of Work: We purchased a pellet insert fireplace from a local store and needed an installer to put the unit in. As the time was very late in the year, most installers were backed up for several months; the earliest time we were given from the preferred installer list was mid-February.

We first contacted Glenn in October 2014 about creating two rooms in our unfinished basement by December 20th. We realized we were asking for an unreasonably quick response, but were constrained by plans for visitors over the December holidays. Although concerned by the short time frame, Glenn committed to meeting the deadline. Glenn and Rob were a pleasure to deal with throughout the project. Rob did his best to minimize the unavoidable nuisance because of jack hammering and other work in our basement. In the end, they completed the job exactly on time and on budget. The workmanship was flawless, and matched or exceeded the finishes in the rest of the house. As soon as we make room by cleaning out and organizing the lifetime of accumulated stuff stored in the rest of our basement, we will be asking them to do a second project to finish the rest of the basement this summer.
Description of Work: Finished a bath and a bedroom in our basement.

Everything looks wonderful and works well! Problems with out-of-level floors were solved with aplomb; ceiling fan electric line cleverly and appropriately installed with little disturbance or scars to the ceiling; job was finished on time with minimum dust and minimum disturbance to the daily routines of the residents.
Description of Work: Installed new red oak floors in hall, powder room and master bath; new granite counter tops, sinks and fixtures in powder room and master bath; new onyx shower, Koehler toilet, and American Standard hot tub in master bath, as well as a new fan and lighting; new and/or painted trim and doors in both rooms and hall; replaced master bedroom track lighting with remote-controlled ceiling fan with lights.

Done with skill. Looked better than when we moved in 16 years ago! And..everything works!
Description of Work: Converted inner basement walls to "floating walls" (via professional engineering specs) to compensate for rising pressures from basement floors; replaced rotten wood and wall structures surrounding lower garage door.

Glenn, Rob, and their crew were wonderful. Always polite to our family and punctual as well, they kept their work areas as clean as cold be reasonably expected while they worked. They explained everything to us in detail along the way, kept us updated with schedules, work left to be done, and who would be showing up to do said work. The work was finished on time and on budget, and everything looks great. The bathroom is exactly what we wanted, and the egress window allows us to have guests stay in the basement safely. I would highly recommend Mountain to anyone looking to do remodeling or installation work on their home.
Description of Work: Put in a new three-quarter bathroom in the basement. Installed container shelving along one wall of the laundry room. Finished the ceiling and replaced the lighting in a playroom. Replaced a small window with an egress window in a basement bedroom.

I called Glenn late in the day to see if anyone could get by to take a look at the roof. Within a day, Glenn had his lead construction foreman out at our house and Rob found the leak in minutes, which appeared to be the roof. Glenn then gave me the name of a very good roofing contractor to take a look at the roof - this is the person Glenn uses for roofing work. All at no charge.
Description of Work: In some of the rather wild rain storms we've had in September and October 2014, we had some leaking show up on our brand new painted kitchen ceiling (Mountain did the painting, prior review) and this was on the lower level. I called Glenn to see if they could find out what was leaking.

First off, they removed all the popcorn in the house while we were living here. That required moving furniture from room to room and living in different parts of the house while the ceilings were being stripped and painted. This time period was extremely challenging and the painters were just great to work with during this entire time. Communication was very important and Glenn communicates well by email, text and phone. We had a few things go awry during this work and it wasn't anything Mountain did wrong. It was things found in our house that were wrong and once it got torn into, we had to fix it. A case in point was the railing - as it was being rebuilt, it was discovered that our stairs upstairs for the wood floor weren't really on right and our tread depth was wrong. This required re-doing the wood stairs - not their fault, but it introduced additional time and expense. The painting crew was outstanding. These guys were very much craftsman and perfectionists and really did the job right. If anyone has ever taken a textured piece of sheet rock to a flat finish, it really takes a lot of sanding, filling and a good eye to get it right. Bottom-line, they did. My wife is VERY happy with how the ceilings look now. We added this additional work on to the basement because of how satisfied we were with the work that Mountain was doing for us.
Description of Work: We had engaged Mountain Construction to finish our basement. Once we got the ceiling painted in the basement, we had chosen smooth finish versus any kind of texture or popcorn. However... the rest of the house had popcorn and we decided to clean that up while the painting team was available. As part of the process, we had an unsafe stairway and rail that they rebuilt as well.

This project went very well and I'm very satisfied with the outcome of the work. Glenn and his team at Mountain Construction were extremely responsive, kept us appraised of the work in progress and perhaps most importantly, very nice people to have in your home. As an example, our 4 y/o grandson lives with us. One of Glenn's guys became so close to him that he wanted to have a birthday party for Rob. The basement was totally designed by Glenn. We had some ideas when we brought Glenn in, however he quickly proposed and alternate solution that made far better use of the space. Our basement looks like it was built this way when the house was built. The other thing we really liked about Glenn and his team is that they were all professionals and wanted to do it "right". If anything wasn't right - it was addressed promptly and without any issues. Mountain is not the cheapest contractor out there. However, I'd just remind people that those "cheapest contractors" frequently end up as case studies on HGTV shows as to what not to do to your home. My rating of "A" on price reflects what I believe the price/quality of the work done. I would highly recommend Mountain Construction and would use them again and I have already done so.
Description of Work: The work contracted for in the original contract was a full finish of the basement. We had an unfinished basement, Mountain Construction totally finished it out. The start of work was late 2013 and finished in 2014. Most of the reason for the long time the work took was our own fault as we had additional work done at the same time the basement was being done to maximize cost effectiveness.

It was good to work with Glen and Rob again on this project. The project started on August 26th with a 30 day completion date. I met with Glen and Rob on the first day to discuss and finalize design plans for the bathroom. Rob laid out the footprint for the bathroom and began framing. Rob also constructed the built in shelf unit. Rob and Richard (Plumber) jack hammered the basement floor to connect the new drains to the sewer system. During this phase it was determined that the old cast iron stack needed to be replaced with PVC. Richard did an outstanding job and the new stack allowed Rob to enclose the new stack and provide an access port for the clean-out. Rob and Richard hand mixed and poured concrete to close up the new drain pipes. Rob completed the framing and ran the electrical for the lights, GFI outlet and bath fan. The space was dry walled (Ray & crew), spackled and sanded. The painter (Yugo) followed with an excellent paint job. The tile setter (John) laid the porcelain tile floor and completed the grouting the next day. Richard and Rob returned and set the new toilet and hooked up the shower and vanity. Rob completed the trim and minor touch-ups. The project was completed 4 days earlier than the projected 30 day completion date. This project went very smoothly and the completed bathroom is beautiful. This is my second experience with Glen and Rob and I would highly recommend them for any future projects you might have. I will certainly use them again in the future
Description of Work: Mountain Construction previously had finished our basement several years ago. We had considered putting in a bathroom at that time but did not have sufficient funds at the time. This summer we decided to put the bathroom in and called Mountain Construction (MC) to come back to do the work since they had done such a fine job on the basement project. The project entailed framing, plumbing, electrical, painting and tile for a new 3/4 bath.

in the basement many bookshelves were installed to create a library space. getting rid of the drop ceiling was great. The new bath is wonderful along with adjacent closet. Also installed plumbing in basement for laundry space. The lead carpenter is wonderful, can make appropriate choices and implement them. In the kitchen installed LED tape lights.. much better than the originally installed halogens (too hot)
Description of Work: Basement remodel. new bath, remove drop ceiling, paint floor joints, install porcelain floor. install lighting. painting. reconstruct shelving. In upstairs kitchen replace stove, dishwasher, counter, backsplash and sink. overall a very nice look and functionality.

This company did excellent work. They were not the cheapest bidder on our work, but we decided to use them because of past Angie's List reviews. I am very glad I did. They truly go the extra mile to make everything perfect. Even though we made changes throughout the project, they were very accommodating and gave us reasonable prices for the changes we made during construction. All of the workers that came to our home were super friendly and highly skilled. If you are looking for a construction company that will perform well and pay attention to every detail, I highly recommend Mountain Construction.

Our experience with Mountain Construction was excellent. We came to Mountain with ideas of how we wanted the basement done and with some pictures that we had found online. They took the photos and replicated it exactly. Along the way they made suggestions on ways to tweak our design based on their experience and all those tweaks were excellent ideas. All the employees who worked on our basement werevery professional, courtesy and perfectionists. The quality of craftsmanship is unmatched. We went with Mountain because we wanted our basement to be perfect and that is exactly how it turned out. The task of completing a basement can be frustrating at times due to all the decisions that need to be made and just the inconvenience of having work done while living in the house. Mountain made the experience more pleasant than we could imagine. I would highly recommend Mountain based on the craftsmanship and the stress free execution of the project.
Description of Work: Finished our walk-out basement. Which included the following: 1. Bathroom with tile shower 2. Bar area with custom cabinets and granite top 3. Bedroom with french doors 4. Entertainment wall containing cabinets, in wall speakers and big screen tv mount.

For part of these jobs we were out of town. We were kept abreast of progress through the Internet, including photos of wood damage, and the progress made to fix the problems! This company has our greatest trust, and our appreciation for superior construction and carpentry skills! Even the drywall and painting subs were top-drawer! Over the past five years, we have kept choosing Glen and Rob and their subs for their integrity and superior craftsmanship in remodeling, window/door replacement, and structural modifications.

Our experience with Mountain Construction and Glenn was excellent. We met Glenn in the early part of 2013. We were looking to remodel a significant portion of the main level of our home, including kitchen, bathroom, dinning room, and the refinishing of all the floors on the main level of the house. This was our first remodeling project and we were hoping to tackle and complete the project quickly as we were also expecting our first child. Glenn was patient and gracious and took his time to explain the process and details of the work his company would do. We immediately liked him. Our project commenced in March and was complete in June. His workers and sub contractors, including Rob, were tremendous. They were punctual and professional and exceeded our expectations in terms of the finished product. Further, when we needed assistance with additional household repairs or maintenance, Glenn and his work crews were there to help us even thought it was out of their way and even when they were not contractually obligated to do so. We are deeply appreciative of them and all their hard work and going forward Glenn and Mountain Construction will be the contractor service that we will use and continually refer.

The project is two weeks away from completion and we are happy with what they have done so far. The quote that they gave us initially was high but we negotiated down. They were very professional and very thorough during the quote process, and they asked the right questions. Actually one man was added we had a different set of eyes and a different mind involved in the process because we ended up not only adding a bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet, but also getting the deck redone and putting in a new Heating and A/C system for us.

I have used Glen and Mountain in the past. They re-finished my basement back in 2010 and they also did an addition (master bedroom, bathroom, walk in closet) to my parents house the following year. I had full confidence that they would do a great job on my newest project and they did. I did get some other estimates. I had several companies come in and give separate bids for each job and one other company to give a bid for everything. The amount on the estimates varied far more than I would have thought. One company bid 9000 for the driveway while another bid 4999. The company that bid 4999 had great reviews on Angies List so I was comfortable going with them if it didn't work out with Mountain. The same company bid 2799 for the stamped concrete patio. A seperate company that did the siding on my parents house gave me an estimate of 5999 for doing 2 sides of the house and all the fascia. They did a good job on my parents house so I was comfortable going with them if, once again, it didn't work out with Mountain Construction. I only had one company give an estimate for all of the projects (other than Mountain) and they gave a bid of 59,000. No way I was going to pay that much when I had all these individual bids that added up to much, much less. I had bids all over the board for the most expensive part, the screened in porch. One company said 16,000 another 23,000 and Archadeck didn't give me an exact number but estimated 27000 would be the minimum if I went with the cheapest options. I did not get an estimate for the landscaping or the french door in the kitchen leading to the screened porch or the atrium door going from the downstairs room to the patio. So, when I contacted Glen I told him what all my estimates were and he said they could do everything, french door and downstairs door and landscaping included for 45,370. He also said he would throw in installing a new storm door for our front door to our house. To me it was a no brainer since I had already used Glen and trust him. One of my priorities was not losing any size that we had on our old deck which was 20' x 16" so that was the size we went with. Also, another priority was using a material for flooring that would never have to be stained, never splinter, never fade, etc. I did a ton of research and in the end chose a product call Fiberon Horizon in the Ipe style. Here is a link to it: www.fiberondecking.com/products/horizonDecking It is a composite wrapped in PVC. My parents have a composite flooring and I told Glen that I wanted a porch to mimic the look and feel of my parents as much as possible but I wanted a different flooring since I had done some research and saw some reviews of the regular composite decking that weren't great. When I found the fiberon horizon product one of the appealing things about it was that it was far cheaper than pure PVC. Many posters on forums stated that it was hardly any more expensive than popular basic compsite materials. This was one area where Glen and I had a mis-communication. Since I had seen online that the price of the PVC wrapped composite was much closer in price to plain old composite than it was to PVC I assumed his total estimate of 45,370 was still what I would end up paying. Well, at the end when they were all finished and I paid the final installment payment it was 1500 more than I thought it would be. I was surprised and it hurt the wallet a bit since I had everything budgeted to the penny basically. However, I couldn't be too upset. I have to admit my screened porch looks better than my parents (the basis of Glen's quote to me was to use my parents porch as a reference) and I'm very glad I went with the PVC wrapped composite. Also, the railing to the stairs if very nice and not made of composite material. I guess I just wish Glen would have gone over with me at the time how much more I would be charged when it was all said and done. We absolutely LOVE our screened porch. We used a darker screen which gives us privacy during the day. As you can see from the pictures (ha, if I figure out how to post pictures) from the outside you can't see in but from the inside you can see out just fine. Also the screen is VERY tough. I read reviews from people that said hail storms had damaged their roof, siding, cars, but the screen on the screened porch was just fine. Also, the holes must be smaller than regular screen. I've been in screened porches where very small insects (gnats etc) can get in but that does not happen in my porch. My girls and wife attract any and all mosquitoes in the city, so much so that we couldn't really use our deck anymore (that and the deck was falling apart). Now with the screen no more worries. Also, per our request they put screen under the flooring to since we have gaps between the boards.. LOVE the french doors going out from the kitchen onto the porch. On nice days we just prop open both doors and it's such a nice wide open view out to the porch and vice versa. We eat dinner out there all the time, what's nice is even when it's hot in the summer it's not bad by 6 or 7 pm since the sun is on the other side of the house. The ceiling fan really helps too. Eventually I plan on putting a tv on the wall above the french doors in between the speakers. The patio is awesome too, we had many nights in the early summer before it got hot this year sitting around the fire pit, and roasing marshmallows for smores with the kids or having a few beers with friends. The driveway is such an improvement, I wish I had a before picture our driveway was really crumbling away. The landscaping is perfect. We just wanted something simple and low maintenance and that's exactly what Glen gave us. As far as the siding goes, we already had 2 of the sides of the house done. I know that sounds like total WT but I hate having to finance anything and at the time we had issues with rot and woodpeckers getting into the attic so we replaced the front of the house and the north side. The rest of the house was already white so no one really noticed unless I pointed it out. Still, over the last couple years more rot was starting to show up on the back of the house and the south side so it needed to be replaced too. That's about it.... any future projects we have we will be going with Mountain and Glen for sure. Eventually we plan on knocking out some walls and going with an open concept (man I'm sick of that term, my wife is always watching HGTV) with our main level. Ha, that said Glen may be sick of me by now - I think I am pretty high maintenance and am often bugging Glen with a ton of questions during projects but he always patiently answers any questions and gets back to me very quickly.
Description of Work: They tore out are old deck and replaced with a screened in porch and patio. They put siding on 2 sides of the house and the fascia all the way around the house. They also replaced the driveway and put in new landscaping under the front bay window. Also 2 doors were replaced, the door to the screened porch and the door to the patio which we replaced with a french door.

It was a pleasure to work with Glenn and his crew on this major remodel. We think we got a really good value for the quality of the work that was done. It wasn't the cheapest bid, but based on our initial assessment of the estimates were received, we felt that Mountain provided the best value. We couldn't be happier with the results. The best part of the whole thing was the communication. You always hear horror stories about contractors starting a job and then they stop showing up, or don't respond to issues after the work is completed. That is definitely NOT the case with Mountain. Glenn is in constant contact to let you know general timeframes of what is going to happen. Speaking of communication, all of the crew members we dealt with spoke English fluently, which may not seem like a big deal, but when you have people in your house for 6-8 hours a day, it's nice to be able to speak with them and know what they're saying. Of course, in a major remodel, there are going to be issues. We had some minor (hairline) grout cracking in one of the bathrooms. We brought it to Glenn's attention and it repaired without question. Later, we discovered that there was some unevenness in some of the wall tiles - that too was repaired without question. In fact, one of the reasons I waited several months to write this review was to make sure I was still satisfied with the work after living with it for a while. As evidenced by this review, you can tell that I am completely satisfied. We love our new bathrooms.
Description of Work: Full remodel of master bathroom, second full bathroom, and powder room. Master bedroom installation of hardwood floors, paint, molding and chair rail. Updating of laundry room. With the exception of the bedroom, all the work was a full gut and replacement.

We chose Mountain Construction to interview for our project based on other reviews we had seen. We interviewed 5 different companies initially. Some quotes were higher, some much higher, and one lower. Glenn was very easy to talk to and we felt his company would be the best for the job. The scope of our project was very large compared to other things we had done in the past. We had a lot of time to think about what we had wanted to do and had a pretty clear vision of how we wanted things laid out. Glenn and his crew were great to work with. Everyone was very courteous and cleaned up the work space at the end of the day. The only major snafu that we had was the big driving rain storm from one of the hurricanes this summer. Despite getting the roof closed up and covered, the rain still came in and caused some water damage to the ceiling and walls in our living room. Glenn and Rob came out the next day to assess the damage. The sheet rock was repaired and replaced where necessary and the entire ceiling was repainted and the walls were touched up. The final price was a little higher than the original quote because there was a change to the roof line that was not factored in on the original blueprints. We also upgraded the decking material and had doors made to fit in two of the other bedroom closets where there had previously been bypass doors. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and we would absolutely hire Glenn and his crew again!
Description of Work: A large existing tree and concrete patio were removed from the back of the house. A master bedroom and master bathroom room addition were added with approximately a 21 foot x 21 foot concrete poured crawl space / basement.. A large covered porch addition was also added that joined with the new space approximately 20 x 21 feet. A majority of the porch was screened in with a small portion left as open deck. On the inside of the house we widened an existing hallway, added a large walk in closet/ dressing room and converted the existing master bath into an upstairs laundry room.

It worked out really well. The responsiveness was really good. The owner was very responsive when we had questions. The people he had working for him were very respectful of our house which was really nice. We were just very happy with the work they did. My son his happy with the room. They did what they said they were going to do.
Description of Work: Mountain Construction added a bedroom in the basement. They added outlets, window, put up walls, and ran duct work.

He gave me two quotes. The first one was in the $40000 range which I thought was very high. He came out two different times. The first one was very high and then he followed it up with us and revised it and the second time it was $36000. We definitely went over all that we wanted to do, like the walls to be removed and what needed to be build there. He did give us suggestions and talked to us about the project. What I did not like about him is that he just gave us a dollar figure. There was no itemized quote no mention of how much they are going to spend on electrical, on painting. It was going to cost $36000 the end. There was no wiggle room; no room for us to say that certain pricing was outside of our range so if we give up xyz, would he bring down the price, there was any of that. We saw photos of his previous work and he is rated very highly on Angies List and we were sure that he was going to do a good job but we were not just comfortable with not having an itemized quote. We asked him for an itemized quote and he said that he does not do business that way. We will not be considering him for a bid in the future.
Description of Work: We had Mountain Construction to come out and give us an estimate to remodel the master suit. To completely gut the bathroom and to convert the attic space and bedroom space into a large walk-in closet and a master bedroom.

Response from MOUNTAIN CONSTRUCTION
This was simply an estimate, we did not work for this member. We are a start to finish design and build group, they wanted to do some work themselves, hence the itemization, which has often slowed the process down too much for us. Please refer to the projects we have actually worked on. Thank you, Mountain.

We contacted Glen Gruber, with Mountain Construction Company to remove our old deck and stairs and replace with a new screen porch, larger landing and stairs. He came right away, made out our contract and began the wiork immediately. Now is the time to have them do your outside work, so you will be ready for SPRING to enjoy your new porch. All of his workers were here on time, very hard to work in the cold weather and two snow storms. But they have finished their work and we are very PLEASED WITH THEIR WORK, CLEAN UP AND ASKING IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO FOR US. We highly recommend them for any work you may have that needs to be done. Also, they finished in two months, sooner then the contract said of 3 months. Thank you Glenn and all of your workers for a job well done!
