The technician replaced the three outlets as two needed to be upgraded to 20 and one was broken. He evaluated the problem I had with my space heater and determined the problem was the heater, not the outlets. He also determined the bulb in the outside light was broken and went to two different places to find a replacement bulb. Unfortunately the bulb has been discontinued. He was knowledgeable, prompt, personable. He also made plans to deal with the outside light at a different time.

I can only comment on Punctuality as they never made it here to actually do any work! I waited an afternoon at home, missing work, for them to come during the times of 2 PM and 4 PM. Roughly around 5 PM I received a call that they weren't going to make it. But, they would surely make it the next day if I'd be at home between 12 PM and 12:30 PM. They didn't arrive even though I gave them an extra hour before heading back to work. They finally called to tell me they were on their way about 1:30 PM after I arrived back to work. I told them no thank you. This is a total disregard for the customer's time, my time, and I would not recommend them.

It was good. I used him for the coupon work and then I paid him for some additional work. He was cooperative and professional. They were responsive and I was satisfied. I should have had the power fixed first and then the cable.

He does not clean up his mess! He put the outdoor outlet in and left a mess all over the floor inside. For him to look to see if he could get the outdoor socket, he had to pull out an air purifer as well as all of the dog's toys because they were in front of it - these were left out as well, scattered around, and I had to put it all back. I think lights were left on in the basement as well.
Description of Work: He put in a new porch light in the back. He also added an outdoor electrical box. I wanted another in the front, but said he could not put it where I wanted, which is probably true.

A representative from JMC Electric called me within a few days of my purchase of an Angie's Deal. They arrived when they said they would, took time to ask questions to get a good understanding of what was going on and then provided me with an estimate. The amount was reasonable and they said they had the parts needed on the truck so were able to begin right away. One of the guys began with the ceiling fan and the other started on the GFI outlet issue. The fan was completed quickly and with no problem. The GFI issue took a little longer but they kept at it until it was fixed properly. Rather than only having to replace two GFIs as originally thought, four had to be replaced so each bathroom and the outside outlet were isolated from each other. I really appreciate that they took the time to answer my questions and that they gave clear answers. They were also very respectful of my home. I will definitely use JMC Electric again.

VERY UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICE. Angie's list deal quoted is $80 service call discounted to $49 with an additional $100 discount off of service performed. Service tech advised job would take one hour. Kansas City electrician rates charged by companies are $80-$125 an hour. With a $100 discount off of the high end of $125 the quote should have been the $49 collected up front plus $25. I was instead quoted $375 minus $100 discount or $275 for 1 hour of work. The only positive I can add from this service call is the technician they sent was polite and presented himself in a professional manner. I have built houses in the past and done extensive electrical work myself so I know the tech estimate of 1 hour for work to be performed was accurate for what I wanted done. JMC appears to be using Angie's list to gain customers then raise their prices above the normal rates to offset any discount they are offering. I sent them away and wanted to warn Angie's list members to avoid using this provider as what they offered on daily deal vs what they were really willing to do was not only deceptive but not even in the ballpark of rates charged by union electricians in KC. They can't justify rates because it was a small job either as hourly travel was already covered. Extremely disappointed in business tactic employed and would never recommend JMC Electric for anything.

Good points: Quick communications from Ed Cauthon to schedule appointment Techs were nice Light fixture works Michael Cauthon reimbursed me for the overcharge & sent $25.00 Red Lobster gift certificate to apologize for the error Things I didn't like: 1. I told Ed Cauthon exactly what job would entail (switching out a can light to a light fixture) I offered to send a picture of the can light & the light fixture I'd purchased to use. When techs arrived they didn't bring a can light conversion kit. So... they would need to go to home depot to purchase one. Travel time on my dime, of course. I called Ed to question why they didn't bring one when I'd told him exactly what the job was. He said it was not possible for them to stock "all the different sizes" of can light conversion kits as there were so many. (Not true) I reminded him I'd offered to send a picture of the can light and I didn't think it was fair for me to lose 50 minutes of my pre-paid hour service call because he hadn't sent techs with the needed material. He told me was a 20 minute job and it probably wouldn't require extra time but told me to have his techs call him before they filled out the ticket. Techs arrived back from home depot w/ can light conversion kit & did the switch out. Very quick, no problem. I was presented with a ticket for the service call (which I'd already paid for), and a very marked up price on the can light conversion kit. I questioned the tech about the 80% mark up (Yes, I went to the home depot website & found the retail price, don't know what the contractor pricing was) & he told me it wasn't that much of a mark up. Okay, whatever. I also asked him if he had talked to Ed about the price they were charging. He said they had. I twice asked (knowing it was inflated) asked if Ed was aware of what I was being charged. He said he filled the ticket out as Ed had instructed. The tech could tell I wasn't happy & it wasn't his fault so I didn't say anything else. I told the tech this was not the way for a business to get good reviews. 2. Appointment hours are standard office hours and they required me to be home. I'd had an outside fixture replaced by an electrician previously, and he worked it 'hot' so I didn't need to take off work. When trying to schedule the appointment, Ed indicated " The latest appointment would be 2:00pm to ensure it doesn't run into overtime. " He said I needed to be home: "Yes you would need to be home, we would also need access to the panel to test it once it's been completed." Three points here--- from my conversation with Ed the day of the job, he knew such a simple ("20 minute") job couldn't run into overtime. So, I had to take time an unnecessary amount of time off from my job. The techs didn't even have me turn the breaker off as the switch was already off. And, the fixture had a dusk to dawn feature. The techs had their ladder loaded & were ready to leave when I asked them to please get their ladder back out and cover the light sensor so I could ensure the fixture worked. 3. After I'd paid, I emailed Angie's list to ensure I hadn't misunderstood the "deal" I purchased. I had not, I was in fact double charged for the service call. Michael Cauthon in marketing promptly contacted me & offered to either mail the reimbursement check or have it delivered. I assured him it would be okay to mail the check. A week later, I still hadn't received it. I contacted Angie's list again. She was told it was being mailed soon. Within a few more days, I did receive the reimbursement check and a $25.00 gift certificate; "For your inconvenience and our delay in this matter we have also included a dining voucher for you and anyone you would like to share a meal with"

I called first thing in the morning after having a puzzling power loss in our living room. I received expedited scheduling for the same day, due to the nature of the problem. Jacob called two hours before the scheduled time to inform us he was en route. He arrived, diagnosed the problem, and repaired the wall outlet that caused the problem in short order. He was polite, friendly, and professional. We paid the callout rate and an hour's worth of time, so the cost was minimal. Overall, we were delighted with the response and resolution to our problem. 10/10 will use again.

John was very professional. He dealt with my Ex somewhat, which I think any time you are dealing with more than one person there is a high chance for miscommunication. John handled everything very well. My house had failed city inspection the first time because of a few minor details, John quickly reconciled the issues that same evening and the next day we passed! My home is now updated and safer. In regards to price I can not factually state any comparison. My Ex said that he was $400 less than another company, but I have nothing in writing from either one. I do know that it was finished quickly, he was very professional, and very fair in that he did not up the price when he needed to re-do a few things.

Upon meeting John, he was very professional and we spent time talking about how I would use the garage and the best places for outlets, lighting, etc. Him and his partner (Mickey) did a very good job of burying the electrical from the house to the garage and it looks great cosmetically. I will say he will be used again. I highly recommend him.
