hey did an excellent job, were very easy to work with and all the contractors they sent to our home were polite, very professional, on time and did a great job completing their task. The job was finished on time and I love it. We have gotten so much enjoyment out of this room, from family dinners to entertaining guest. I would call them again if I had another project
Description of Work: They added a dinning room and screen porch to our home,

I called him for an estimate to refresh the look of my master bath. I told him upfront that I didn't want to sink alot of money into the project only about $7000. The verbal estimate he came up with was around $16,000, he said he'd send me something in writin within a week, after 2 weeks I called him and he said he had been busy but would send me something the following week. I never heard from him again. He was a very nice gentleman, I figure he wanted a big $15K to $20K job and just wasn't interested in my small project.

This was one of the oddest contracting experiences I have ever had. When their roofing division came out and took a look it was all incredibly professional. They put in minor temporary fixes for some flashing to help stop the leaks until they could actually get out to service. When the restoration side came in they were still professional though a little less so than the roofing side. They helped negotiate with insurance for some additional repairs needed. We set a date and work was the commence. Then...they didn't show up. Their project manager didn't show up at all and upon finally getting ahold of them they figured he had screwed up his scheduling. But, instead of moving another client out or finding some way to fit my job in, they told me it would be 4 weeks out and suggested another contractor. I informed them I wanted to stick with them and was fine with waiting the additional time (though a little peeved). However, they did not respond to my request and I came to find out when they finally did respond that they meant their previous message to indicate they had already completely canceled doing my job and that I had to change contractors. So, while the experience started well it ended in lack of communication and completely unprofessional behavior. I had my entire job canceled and my search for a contractor resumed because they screwed up their own schedule and without any apology or even a proper and clear notification. Perhaps their work is good, but you can't really tell that if they never do the job they committed to.
Description of Work: Nothing. They were going to do dry-wall replacement along with some roof repair from a minor leak under insurance.

We are sorry that your experience was not to your liking. Though there was a scheduling error on the part of the production department, this is not the reasoning for the contract dismissal. In an industry where individuals have to interact and be affiliated for a prolonged period of time it is important that there be a good working relationship between the homeowner and contractor. During the negotiations with the insurance company several items were asked of us to either try to include or adjust that we could not accommodate and this was met with resistance. After, multiple communication exchanges we determined it was better for both parties to part ways. No invoice or demand for payment was issued to the homeowner for time invested and proper notification of cancellation was submitted to the appropriate parties. Again, we apologize for the production department error and that the end result was not how either party envisioned. Kind Regards, Brown Remodeling & Restoration.

the final job was ok, (not great), some of the tile are not flush to the wall, some of the tile lines are not straight grout cracked several times had to have them come back twice in less than 2 months to repair grout, finally they gave up and put caulk in the crack to fill it in, even though the sales man for this company said they would not do this due to molding issues. they are other issues that I had with this company, also felt like my job was not important sense it was a small job, always felt like they would get to me when they had the time.."now" I did contact them again to do french doors, after many mistakes, no returned calls (or text message), I gave up and cancelled the contract.

Response from Brown Remodeling & Restoration
We sincerely apologize that your experience was not to your satisfaction. We at Brown remodeling & Restoration strive to treat every client the same and have stellar results. Anyone who has ever had remodeling work completed or is in the industry knows that even when we try to have a project go without error or hiccup, this does not always come to fruition. Though the end result of the interaction was not ideal (for both parties), the client is failing to mention many extenuating factors the made up the sum of the projects. The client, due to budget constraints opted to only due a portion of the proposed fix in his bathroom. He chose to leave the existing cast iron tub and subfloor and only replace the tile and substrate that makes up the tub surround, this is further substantiated by the dollar amount in the homeowners submission. This limits our ability to level the tile and substrate where it meets the tub surface or adjust any framing defection as needed. On any tile shower the inside corners will always need to be caulked either by a silicone based product or grout caulking to match the selected grout. The homeowner requested that no silicone be used due to possible mildew behind the silicone, so we opted to use a matching grout caulk to industry standard. We were called out to re-caulk the inside corners, which is very common in an older home due to structure movement whether it be a shower or back splash. A mark of a good company is not whether errors, warranties or product failure happens, rather when and if it does, do they show up to fix and repair in which we did and always will. As a homeowner would you invite a company back for a second project if the initial was so unpleasant? The second project was to remove and replace a rear entry door. Against our advice, the homeowner opted to measure and order the door unit his self to obtain a personal discount he had available from the supplier. On two separate occasions, two of our carpenters arrived to pick up the unit for install and on both occasions the unit was the wrong size, even after us giving the homeowner and supplier the exact size needed. We had a total of eight man hours involved in the errors at no cost to the homeowner and in fact completed wood rot repair next to the door at no cost as well. It was only after the second mis-order on behalf of the homeowner/supplier that the contract was cancelled. We sometimes find ourselves in a situation where the ideal repair cannot be completed due to budget issues or homeowner resistance and we are forced to complete the repairs with the best possible solution staying within the parameters set forth by the homeowner. Unfortunately, not all clients can be pleased or convinced to take our advice or let us do our job in the manner we see fit, so we have to work with what we are given. It is never the goal any company to have an unhappy client and we try diligently to avoid that at all cost. With a little more openness to the circumstances at hand and flexibility in the parameters we were given, I am certain things would have turned out better for both parties. Again, we apologize that your experience was not to your liking. Kind Regards, Brown Remodeling & Restoration.

Very polite and courteous, prompt. Repair job was not smooth. I had to resand , respackle. and repaint several times. Still not quite right. Edges around mirror and light fixture with small pieces of wall paper that I removed, sanded and repainted after I asked Mr. Brown to give more attention to this area. Also very obvious brush strokes under light fixture and around electrical plate areas, looks sloppy. I requested flat based paint, used a semi sheen paint. Did have tub covered but still had cleanup of small paint dots. Overpriced for the quality of work. I call a professional because I want a professional job done and will gladly pay the price. Very unhappy with results.

Took approximately 3.5 weeks start to finish, the end product is beautiful, we used all the same colors and carpet like we had upstairs and just brought it downstairs. We were being done in the winter when a major storm hit so had a few days of no activity but then back on schedule. It looks great so up to date now.

Brown Restoration was great! I came home after work to a flooded basement, water pouring out everywhere. (I had the city come out and do a meter read, to discover I had about a month's worth of water flood my basement within one day!) I called my insurance company, and they suggested Service Master or Service Pro. I called and left messages with both companies (received their call backs within 2-3 days). This was an urgent matter, and needed someone asap so a family member suggested I call Brown Restoration. I called about 7pm, and Lead Wendell was at my house within 30 minutes! Typically, his water extraction contractors would have made the house call, but they were experiencing a high volume of calls due to busted frozen pipes (this winter has been brutal!) So Wendell got up from the dinner table and headed straight over. He quickly assessed the situation and got installed a shut off, so I could turn the water back on to the house. This saved me from having to be put up in a hotel for the night. He removed selected pieces of furniture I wanted to try and save, and placed them in my garage for safe keeping. First thing the next morning contractors were at my house, pulling up the carpet/padding, drilling holes in the drywall, did some ceiling tear out, and brought in several fans and dehumidifiers. They ran the machines for 8 days, and then did a moisture reading to ensure everything was sufficiently dry before removing the equipment. I expected a quality job at a price I could afford. What I received was that and much more! The quality, communication and execution by far exceeded every expectation I had. Thanks Brown!!

Hi [Member Name Removed] this is Wendall I'm the salesman that came to your home. I just got on Angie's list because we have changed owner ship and I am trying to monitor reviews and I saw this review and you are correct I could not come up with any ideas that I liked for the space but what didn't get put in this review is that I suggested that I could get a designer involved but you told me not to worry about it because you had more people coming out to look at it. I agree that I didn't have any ideas that I thought were presentable to you and some times I don't. I am not a Designer by trade. Thank you for saying I was nice. Sorry it didn't work out.

From the very first contact with Arron, my wife and I felt that Brown Restoration was that company to do our kitchen. The project went a little longer than we expected but we did add some work and changes a the work progressed. My wifes face lights up now every time she walks into our kitchen. From the new tile back splash and counter top to the new cabinat doors our kitchen has a new life to it. Robins crew did a wonderfull job of being able to match our ideas to a finished project. We will definitely use Brown again when we have future projects.

I liked working with them, because it felt like I was working with people who knew what they were doing. I wanted some repair work done to my shake roof and a repeak. Well, it turned out they couldn't do the repair work, but they repeaked it anyway. I initially wasn't very happy about that, but worked with the owner to review the condition and what were the best steps forward. I will be needing a new roof in a few years, but I like the look of it for now.

While the quality of work was top notch, communication and organization leave a little bit to be desired. We have a pretty big bathroom and while two people working on different things at one time could be a bit challenging, there definitely times when more than one thing could be done in a day. For instance, mudding the shower floor took place in the morning, then they would leave by noon or so so it could dry overnight, but no one else came later in the afternoon to do the wall, or ceiling etc... It made the process go very slowly. I just felt that it could have been better organized. I know that they were working on other jobs at the same time but it seemed like they had too many going on at one time. They seemed spread a little thin. The shower was very detailed and took a while to do, the rest could have been done sooner. There were days when no one came to do anything. Wallpaper that was not supposed to have been touched ended up being torn and the painter trying to repair it by patching it since the wall paper was no longer being made. It doesn't look that great. I am pleased with the shower and the other stuff they did, no question their workmanship is good quality but you have to ask yourself if you could put up with the time tables and the communication/organization issues. I probably will use someone else next time for my next project which is a real dilemma for me because they did do good work, I just don't know if I can handle the lack of work being done on some days. It would have gone a lot faster if they had scheduled someone coming in the am and then someone else coming in the pm on the days when things had to dry and what not. Would have gone a lot faster than 3mths.
Description of Work: They took out an old shower and redid it with tile and installed new shower doors and hardware. They also custom made a new vanity and installed granite countertops, tore down some old wall paper on some walls and painted. They resurfaced the ceiling in my bathroom and bedroom.

We asked a number of contractors for bids, Brown's was high so we won't be using Brown. He is a really nice guy. We like him a lot, the guy who came out, his name was Wendell, and he is very personable and very easy to talk with. He is very professional and very likable. He was here when he said he was going to be. He knows the building industry. He was very familiar with everything we had talked about, the blueprints we had drawn up and everything. He was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done and had various comments that even might save us some money. So, he's very good, very easy to work with. And we've used them before that was a small window bump out of the house that we did a few years ago and they did a pretty good job, but it wasn't without problems. There was a couple of problems that had to be resolved and they ordered the wrong windows and stuff like that. The thing about Brown is that they have a great salesman, I think, in Wendell coming out and doing the bidding and that kind of thing. But once the job is getting done, you don't see Wendell again, so that's kind of unfortunate because I think he really knows his business well. One thing is that, it is difficult for them to - I guess they get plenty of jobs, but in competing with some of the smaller companies, we didn't feel our job was something that had to go to a particular re-modeler or restoration people like Brown, they're big outfit and so I don't know whether they have more profit or pay a different scale or I'm not sure why their bid was at least $15,000 higher than everybody else. But it makes you wonder.

During the remodel tour, I went through their project house and spoke with a man on the back patio about skylights. I decided, based on what he said, to call about changing out ours. I sent an email to the roofing manager and received no response. A week or so later I called and spoke to a lady about the email and she said she would have him call. Never got a response. It is amazing that in a suppossed weak economy, that businesses would pass up easy work.

One thing that we didn't like is that the quote was not very specific. It's kinda hard to tell how much money was going to what. Some things were there and in other things, they just had like a zero dollar quote which I guess was because it depended upon what you pick but still, it made it just a little hard to see what you're laying your money out for. They came promptly.

I had some longstanding water damage and wood rot on the front exterior of my house at and around the soffit. I called a different local company who took more than a month to reply and then didn't follow up when they said they'd get back with me. I then called Brown and got a very professional response. The first gentleman who came out assessed my damage and determined that it wasn't as extensive as first thought and that it would better suit a different crew from his. Based on his assessment and a ballpark quote, I went ahead and scheduled service. A three-man crew from Brown came out and started work and completed the job over the next few days as the weather permitted. They repaired the water damage and wood rot and painted the repaired areas as needed. In addition, the crew leader found some damaged tiles on my concrete-composite roof. Because those tiles are no longer manufactured, he made the effort to find the closest matching tiles available. Overall I had a good experience with Brown. I have a major siding repair job ahead -- finances permitting -- and I will turn to them first. I recommend them fully.

The experience has been great overall! Aaron Wright, the employee who provided the initial assessment, was punctual, knowledgeable, and provided me with several options. Robin was the project manager, and both of them worked effectively as a team. They worked easily with any modifications that came up along the way. Based on comparisons with other companies, their prices are very realistic for the quality of the work. All of the staff are neat, tidy, and very professional. Anytime I had any problems or concerns with their work or the work didn’t turn out the way I thought it would, they had no problems with fixing it. At the end, we had a walk-around to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction. I wouldn’t hesitate to contact them again in the future!

The roof looks cheap and the color (which they recommended) looks terrible! I still can't believe that I listened to their advice and changed the color of the roof. The screens were hung crooked and the caulking around window was terrible.
Description of Work: New roof, replace a window, replace window screens and replace a sky light.

The job was executed exactly like it was planned out, the time frame was on target, and ever worker was polite and we would use them again. They cleaned up every day, removed trash daily, and were always quick to answer whenever a phonecall was made, or an email sent. The price was well worth it. Wendell the overall project manager was fantastic.
Description of Work: The following work was done: Outside siding, trim and painting, Inside painting, redo knockdown ceiling, reface fireplace, all new lights and fans, all new doors, new wood floors and sand old floor and stain, new carpet.

They have done at least three things for me. I have had them bid each time and they have never been the cheapest. They are usually not the most expensive either, but the work they do is really reliable. They come when they say they will come. They are very clean workers. The house is left immaculate when they leave. They also finish on time. If they say that the job will be done in two weeks, it’s done in two weeks. The price is not something that they re-adjust after they get into it and it’s as quoted. They have been wonderful to use. Their price is within the realm. I was pleased with whatever they did. Their quality is excellent. When they installed the screen door, they made an impossible situation possible. If you have a job to be done, they will find people to do it for you. They use their own employees on most jobs, but they do subcontract. So, they always do a wonderful job on that. I am going to be using them again. I have at least 3 bids on the proposed job. I am working out the details of the contract with Brown Restoration.
Description of Work: I have used Brown Restoration Inc. several times. Their last visit was probably about a year ago. We started off with adding on a half bath for the workers in the basement. They have finished the basement walls and installed the ceiling down there. They did a partition for me in the basement. They did some painting and installed flooring in the lower level. They have done some tiling and I also had them install a screen door.
