The deck stain was spray painted. Every time I have paid to have my deck stained they brush it on. I had no idea my deck stain would be spray painted vs brushed until the day they arrived to do the work. It was quite windy that day and I was concerned when I realized that they were spraying it on. I left perhaps an hour after they began so was not at home for the duration. After the work was completed I had paint flecks all over the 4 windows, imbedded in the screens and in the window wells. (The screens were brand new and had just been replaced days before they stained the deck by a roofing company which I also found on Angies List) which also replace my roof. I called Renew Crew approximately 7 times, and played phone tag with Renew Crew for 6 weeks. Each time I called I received an answering machine and left a message. Later on Jan 6 we finally spoke live and the owner Wayne apologized saying they typically relax 3 months out of the year and not readily available. I explained the paint flecks inbedded in my brand new screens and my 4 windows, to which he said “No problem, this happens at times and we have a chemical we use which takes this right off very easily”. He had not yet sent me and invoice but due to his assurance that this would be an “easy fix” , I went ahead and paid him before the work was completed. Wayne said he would have the windows checked the next week when the weather was warmer to which I stated I wanted to set up an appointment so that I could show them from the inside. Then on January 10th he sent out a worker without scheduling an appointment with me. The worker came and left without a telephone call or email to schedule or a ring at the door. Around noon I walk into the kitchen and sit down at the table and look at one of the windows and am shocked to see it all fogged up. It is a disaster. I was not upset about the mistake of the paint flecks perse because I realize mistakes can be made but this is in a whole other category. I was not a happy camper. I immediately called the owner Wayne and got the answering service again. After several hours and no response I called a 2nd time and no answer. Next I took 5 pictures and sent the owner an email with these pictures expressing my alarm and stating he needs to come to the house asap to look at these windows. The 2 large in the kitchen and the 2 in the bedroom were all damaged and these are the windows which surround the deck. Wayne arrived with appointment the next day and instead of offering apology and a determination to fix what they did, he was extremely defensive and looking for every possible detour to not accept responsibility for their mess. Wayne arrived with 2 different chemicals which he said they always use to clean the windows. I asked him to call Phil to see what Phil used to clean the windows to make sure it was the same. He called Phil while putting him on speaker so we could both hear . Phil used a different product than what the owner said had been used. It is a product by Binswager which I had never heard of. In addition Phil stated he cleaned the windows with steel wool. My initial feeling was the chemical was either not used correctly or was not the proper chemical to use on my type of windows (which are tinted). That day I called the local company which makes this cleaning product and asked if this is safe for cleaning windows...”yes” I was told. Next ...is it safe for tinted windows “yes again” “however do not use our product with steel wool.” I said they did use steel wool and the woman began laughing uncontrollably because she could not believe anyone would use steel wool. Fast forward......I have had to do ALL the WORK to resolve this issue, the owner not being the stand up man I perceived him to be initially. Had I thought he was not trustworthy I would have never paid him prior to removing the paint flecks from my windows. He tried every tactic to run from responsibility....”Oh that paint is white and not your deck stain color” Or there is no way we could have done this. Not a Stand up Company. I have played detective and spent enormous hours resolving this. He has done nothing except to say that he “will accept responsibility IF he did it.” Yet disappears while the burden is on me to bring in window repair companies to investigate and give me a quote to fix as well as a window washing company to see if they can fix. All are in agreement that the windows are scratched from what ever they used to clean the paint flecks and perhaps also seal issue. Thus I am going to have to have the windows replaced in order to see out of them. You can see where the glass is scratched with in circular ring and scratching will cause the fogging issue to come and go depending on the sunlight. And there is a purpilish color which bleeds on the outside depending on the lighting. The issue is they are all fogged up and I cannot see outside. These are the two rooms lived in 95 % of the time inside this house. I am going to post pictures here. I acted diplomatically, and calmly and asked that Wayne put in writing that he will pay for the damages and he responded once again “Yes but only IF we did it”. I said of course you did it, my windows were completely normal that morning and completely messed up immediately after your technician left. To which Wayne responded with aggressive yelling and said I will have to get myself a lawyer. That was it for me. This man is not going to walk tall with integrity and thus I called Angies List to mediate to which a negative review must be posted to begin the arbitration process. I would not have posted anything negative for their accident in getting paint flecks on my windows. As I told Wayne, mistakes happen. I would not recommend this company to anyone as if they make a damage they will not own up to it.
Description of Work: Inspection Report from Integrity Roofing Siding Windows (Clear findings of fault with paint removal causing failure of windows) RE: Inspection Results/Findings Dear As you are aware, I performed an inspection of the windows at your home one Friday, January 20th 2017. This letter outlines the results of my inspection, my opinion of the cause of the damage, and my recommendation for addressing your concerns. I performed a visual inspection, both exterior and interior, of the windows currently on the home. All windows appeared to be of the same age and make and were original to the home (per the homeowner). The windows were made of premium vinyl frames and consisted of a mixture of both picture (fixed glass) and double hung (tilt in lower/upper sash) windows. The windows appear to be dual pane and include a LowE coating and argon gas filled between the panes for energy efficiency. Additionally, all windows appear to have been manufactured to include a premium bronze/grey tint film on the outside of the windows. All windows appeared to be in appropriate operating order. Four of the windows located on the upper level and rear of the home (2 Picture, 2 Double Hung) appear to have been damaged and need to be replaced. Based on my conversation with you, you had recently hired a company to apply a stain to your deck. After that work had been completed, you noticed that overspray residue from the deck staining process had accumulated on the outside of those 4 windows and you had requested that the residue be cleaned/removed from those windows. As a result of my inspection, it is apparent that some attempt was made to clean/remove residue from the outside of these windows. The glass on the outside of the four windows in question has obvious scratches (multiple-covering) that were apparently caused by the material, chemicals/products, and/or process used in the attempt to remove the deck staining residue from the windows. In addition to the scratches and still existing residue, 3 of the 4 windows now reflect an oily discoloration on the glass most likely due to a chemical reaction during the aforementioned cleaning process. Finally, at least 3 of the 4 windows now also have broken seals, meaning the argon gas has escaped and energy efficiency has been lost. Based on my observation, this was most likely due to either the chemical reaction previously mentioned and/or resulting from excessive pressure being applied during the attempt to remove the deck stain residue. My recommendation is that these windows be replaced as soon as possible to avoid further impacts to energy efficiencies within the home. *Estimate for repair* Vinyl Replacement Windows (4) Description Quantity Unit Replace Grand Estates » Original ABC w/LowE/Argon Gas » Picture » White **Note: *Rear of Home, Kitchen/Eating Area 2 EA Add-ons/Upgrades Oversized, > 115 UI 2 EA Add-ons/Upgrades Glass Option - Add Bronze/Grey Tinting 2 EA Replace Grand Estates » Original ABC w/LowE/Argon Gas » Double Hung » White **Note: *Rear of Home, Master Bedroom 2 EA Add-ons/Upgrades Glass Option - Add Bronze/Grey Tinting 2 EA R&R R&R Window Blinds 4 EA Install Interior/Exterior stop trim as needed (not including stained) 4 EA Replace Certainteed Accessories » Fasteners » Truss head screw 4 EA Install Window Insulation 4 EA Install Window Sealant 4 EA Remove Existing windows, haul, and dispose 1 EA Charge Window Measure - Custom Fit 1 EA Total for all sections: $2,595.80 Tax: $96.30 Total: $2,692.10 *Update 2/6/2017* Wayne sends threatening email to me (Member name remember), I have been notified that there will be a charge back of your payment that you have disputed with your credit card company. If you do not stop the refund process we will be taking the following actions. Let this be notice to you that we will be filing a mechanic's lien on the property and also filing a claim against you in small claims court. In small claims court, we will seek the cost of the project, plus the credit card charges, probably somewhere around $50, plus cost of the claim action in small claims court and any other costs that are associated with this small claims court action. If this gives you thought that maybe in fact we did not cause the problem I would ask you to stop the refund process to the credit card company and we will call this settled. *Update 2/6/2017 Wayne admitting fault. (This email sent 5 hours after threats) (Member name removed), I did receive the inspection report from David with Intergety Windows and with that assessment, it seems that we very well might have responsibility for the damage caused to these windows. I am really floored with this assessment, but I do put value in his professional opinion. So, here is my request for stepping up and taking care of this for you... Has the work been scheduled for the replacement? If not, I did talk with a company who said there very well might be an option to replace just the panes of glass, rather than replace the entire framing. If the replacement has been set, I would need them to save the window panels, so that I can take them to Binswanger to show them the issue with the cleaner. In the meantime, would it be possible to come by and do additional inspection and testing from the outside, so that we could see just what the glass cleaner is doing? And on that same line, if you have not scheduled the replacement, could I have this other company come to see if replacing the panes would be a feasible option? *Update 2/7/2017* Email from Integrity Roofing answering Numerous questions from Wayne.( Damage due to Negligence) I am unaware of the specific manufacturer of your window but I am able to tell you that my proposal includes windows of a like make and quality as the windows you currently have installed. Our windows are manufactured by Simonton and they come with a lifetime parts/pieces warranty and are warrantied against bad seals. The manufacturer warranty doesn’t necessarily apply in your case as the damage was caused due to negligence and not a defect in the product itself. I hope that makes sense. Please let me know if you have additional questions. Thank you, *Update 2/8/2017* Email from Wayne saying he is accepting responsibility With your inspection assessment, I also feel that we would have responsibility to cover the cost of this replacement. One thing that I will require, when submitting payment for this, is that I gain possession of the old window, without panes being broken. Update 2/13/17 Waynes comment to the BBB 5 days later: This message originally read on 2/13/2017 As of right now, this complaint is still up in the air, so the final conclusion is unknown and this reply to the complaint my need to be modified. First off, I have told this customer all along that IF we did cause this problem, we will take financial responsibility for the cost to correct the problem Update 2/23/2017 Waynes 2nd response to the BBB threatening Legal action again: Update BBB response from Wayne threatening legal action I REALLY had to force myself not to respond to this right away, as her accusations are very personal and vindictive of our reputation, which is something that I take very seriously. I had drafted up responses to all of her statements and was prepared to send those in , but have decided otherwise. I fell so strongly about our innocents in this issue that I think the only way to get this cleared up will be legal recourse, which we are starting at this point....Wayne My comments about this: Justice is standing up for yourself for what is right and has nothing to do with vindictiveness. Justice is protecting yourself and protecting other people Vindictiveness is the wish to cause harm to another due to retribution. Every situation allows all those participating to learn lessons. I am learning mine from this situation which is to stand up for myself.
