N/A, have not used his services beyond the bidding process, but he did everything ;promised during the bidding process.
Description of Work: Well, I have to eat crow. We found an e-mail communication that Randy had sent that we had missed, so he did respond back to us in a timely manner. My first review was in error, and I appologize for my mistake. As it turns out everything Randy promised was provided in the bidding process. I would not hesitate to use him, and recommend him on future projects.

Response from Remodel Masters
I came out to his home on Oct. 17, 2013 for a 4:00pm estimate and arrived there at 3:50pm to give an estimate for a full Kitchen remodel, Bathroom and Foyer. I provided them with a very detailed and itemized estimate 9 days later on Oct. 26. A few weeks later he called me again and said they wanted to make some changes to a bank of cabinets in the Kitchen. During our conversation, I gave him a verbal cost change. About 2 weeks after that, his Wife called me and said her husband was going to make me a drawing of the changes and email it over to me, but I never heard from HIM again. I was indeed early for our appointment, provided a very thorough, itemized estimate that took several hours of my time to produce for this person in about one week. I say this because he stated, "Then EVENTUALLY" provided us with an estimate - making it sound as if it took several weeks or some extraordinary amount of time to produce the estimate. I disagree with this person's review of me and my company. I am ALWAYS very professional with potential Customers, Customers and everyone else - He rated my "Professionalism" a "D". I was early for our appointment and provided him an estimate exactly 9 days later - He rated my "Punctuality" a "D" There was no doubt a mis-communication between his Wife and himself since she told me he would get back to ME with a detailed drawing of the changes and never did. He decided he wanted to blame me somehow and review my company with "D's and F's" which is not right! Since it took this person more than 6 months after I provided him with the estimate to write this bad review of my company, I called his Wife on the phone and spoke to her about this review to find out why this is even happening. She sounded very surprised and stated she knew nothing of the review and asked me to call her Husband about it. So I did indeed call him to let him know about the miscommunication. He told me he wrote the review because he didn't think I was interested in the job!! I responded, "Why would I spend over an hour at your home discussing your project, then take another 3 or more hours to write the estimate if I wasn't interested?" He responded, "I am a contractor" and I know how long it takes to write an estimate. Interesting how this person just happens to be a Contractor too. This sounds to me like an intentional act from a competitor of mine!

There was not enough space above the cabinet doors to install the crown molding, so he had to install a nailer first all the way around. The price was higher than I expected because there were no skins on my cabinets so Randy recommended that I have him install those first because the crown would look strange without it. He did a great job and I am happy with the results.
Description of Work: Installed crown molding on kitchen cabinets.

The owner's name is Randy Capone. We found him to be excellent. He is fastidious, detail oriented and organized. He does great follow through. His communication is good and has the highest standard for quality of work. He's a great guy. He's great to have around. He has very high standards which not only apply to his work but also to his helpers so he's careful about that. I think he charges plenty.

Randy responded via email right away and then made an appointment to come out on Tuesday, then called me within the hour of that appointment telling me he was unable to make appointment because of a job, but the plumber he was recommending would still be coming to the appointment. Randy rescheduled the appointment for Saturday at noon. Randy arrived a12:15pm on Saturday but not before I tried calling him. Once he arrived stated that he couldn't leave for lunch until noon. That was never communicated. When I had originally spoken with Randy regarding our job he I told him the age of our property, basically what we were looking to have done. He told me that he wouldn't be available to start the job until June or July. I told him I was fine with that because we were looking to have the job done in July. My husband and I felt Randy was very arrogant from the start of the actual appointment. He kept asking how old our house was, even though we told him, he kept asking over and over. When I stopped him to ask why he kept asking he said it was because there is lead in old houses and that he would have to charge us more (more of what I don't know because he hadn't given us a bid yet). Then he went on to say that because our ceiling height was lower than average he would have to charge us 3-4 times more for kitchen cabinets (again more of what? He hadn't given us his quote yet) We both got the impression that he was priming us for a bid that would be incredibly expensive. Finally, Randy told us that it would be September before he was able to do our job. At that point we told him there was no need for him to bid the job. If indeed he would have told me this upfront I would not have wasted his time on an appointment. We have had work done on our home over the past twenty years and never had a contractor act like this on a bid visit. All contractors have been licensed and had proper EPA certifications, etc for environmental hazards and always gave us that information with the bid and then the contract when we proceeded with the work. Our home is older, however, we have never been told by a contractor in the initial bid process that they were going to have to charge us 3-4 times as much because our house is old and doesn't fit the norm for houses that have been built in the past twenty years. It was just weird. And by the way, the plumber that he had recommended did get back with us on his bid and stated that Randy told him he wouldn't be able to get to our job until August. Randy may be a busy guy, but he needs to get his stories straight on when he is actually available and be up front with the customer before he makes an initial appointment. Especially, if he is six months out from being able to start the job he bids. Additionally, he should just give a bid based upon what the customer asks for and if it is too expensive then the customer can either take the bid or not. Until you actually see a bid from a contractor, talking about cost being higher or lower is just subjective rather than based upon any real costs. All-in-all we would not call this contractor again and definitely would not have this contractor do any work. He is just too complicated.
Description of Work: Randy finally came out for a bid after the 2nd attempt for an appointment and was 15 minutes late, with no call. It was all too complicated in his conversation about the bid telling us how expensive it was going to be because we have an older home.

Response from Remodel Masters
When dealing with the general public I come across "all kinds", once in a while I experience people who are difficult to deal with and this person (Mrs. [removed member name]) is on the extreme end of this spectrum to put it politely. Plus to top it off, she smelled of Alcohol so bad it was offensive, was slurring her words and could barely stand without wobbling...all around 12pm in the afternoon! This woman called me to request an estimate on a Saturday because she wanted her Husband to be present and I told her that I normally don't work on Saturdays so we made an appointment for during the week as I normally bid projects. After scheduling her appointment, I made arrangements to work for a previous customer that lived close to her on that Saturday as she had an emergency. I then called Mrs. [removed member name] as mentioned above and told her I had an opening for Saturday and that I could come, "around lunch time" ...never did I say I would be there exactly at 12:00 pm. She was pleasantly surprised and very appreciative of the Saturday appointment. I arrived at her house right around 12:15pm and she immediately told me she had been trying to call me because I was supposed to be there at 12pm exactly! I told her I take lunch at 12:00 (as most people do) and it took me 15 minutes to get to her house! She then apologized to me for her appearance because she had been up almost all night dealing with a personal issue. This person was wanting a full Kitchen remodel and since it appeared to be an older home, I asked her when it was built and she immediately became defensive and asked me why that mattered. I explained to her that if her house was built prior to 1978 that the Contractor she chose had to be Lead based Paint Certified if there was any demolition to be performed (which there was). Again she became VERY defensive and actually interrupted me before I could even finish my sentence stating she was well aware of the EPA standards and again asked why that would even matter because none of the other Contractors she already had out to bid her project had mentioned that. I explained to her that because of the safety precautions that are required to be implemented, it costs more to work on an older home than if her home was built after that date as many people aren't aware of the hazards of Lead based Paint. She then began telling me she wanted most of her Kitchen Cabinets replaced and particularly wanted a Pantry Cabinet that went from the floor to ceiling. Since her ceiling appeared to be much lower than 8' high, I measured it and told her the Cabinet would have to be custom built for her short ceiling height - again she interrupted me and asked me why that mattered - I went on to explain to her that custom made Cabinets can cost much more than a Semi-Custom that Cabinet Companies make to predetermined heights and widths. Again, I was just providing her with information so she had the option for a Semi-Custom that didn't extend all the way to the Ceiling, but instead of being receptive to my more inexpensive option, she was just plain rude and arrogant - which was probably just the Alcohol talking. By this time, I had already decided I wanted nothing to do with her project. At the same time, I wanted to be professional and not offend her in any way, so I asked her when she was looking to have her project completed. She told me June or July. I then apologized and told her that I couldn't even get to her project before September, extended out one of my business cards and thanked her for considering my Company for her project. To my astonishment, she violently smacked the card out of my hand then ordered me to leave her house immediately stating she would never hire me anyway!!!!!!! I truly feel sorry for the Contractor that gets hired and has to deal with this woman! I wish Angie's List had a section to warn Contractors about problem Customers as this Woman would be my first nomination to the forum! Randy Capone Remodel Masters

Randy did all of the skilled work himself with a helper for demolition and cleanup. All work was completed within five working days, allowing time for drying and curing of grout and sealants. We have been well pleased with the finished product, using it almost daily.

He was easy to get a hold of, we were able to schedule an appointment very quickly, he was on time and professional, and he got back to us quickly with a detailed estimate. His price was very competitive; however, we decided to move forward with a family friend. I would recommend Remodel Masters to others. Thanks, Randy!

When first speaking with Randy, I described the project. Midway he asked if he could call me back in 10 minutes. Two days later I called him but had to remind him of what we had already discussed. We established a day/time for him to see my bathroom/kitchen. He arrived on time, took photos, asked appropriate questions and took measurements. Three weeks later I called him since I hadn't heard from him. He located my file and found all the data but hadn't yet worked up the estimate but said he would get it done over the weekend. I never heard from him again.
Description of Work: Came to see what remodel work I wanted done. Asked appropriate questions, took measurements.

Overall, everything went smoothly. We had a few hiccups along the way due to scheduling, but Randy worked it all out and the job was done on time and almost exactly to the cost estimate (increases were due to my adding things on after the fact). Randy always kept in touch to make sure that everything was to my satisfaction and if not, he made sure it was fixed. Randy also gave suggestions along the way to improve on the look and feel of the remodel. Lots of work that was done in a short period of time and less costly than any other estimate I received. End quality was terrific and I enjoy my new area so much.
Description of Work: I had water damage in my basement due to a sump pump failure during 7 inches of rain. 1/2 the drywall in the entire basement had to be removed to prevent possible mold buildup. In having to have the basement drywall redone (two bedrooms and a great room), I also decided to put a bar/kitchen area down there as well. Remodel Masters did the drywall, framing, plumbing, tile flooring, everything that needed to be done to get the rooms ready for carpet and cabinetry.

Randy worked by himself doing this project. Everything was done with craftsmanship. He explained any complications to us and we jointly arrived at the most desirable decisions. The job was done in a timely manner and we will be using Remodel Masters on a bathroom project in the near future.
Description of Work: Remove ceiling fan and assemble and install new ceiling fan with remote. Install new junction box and rewire and remove existing electrical box in attic. Cut out drywall ceiling to properly install fan and then patch drywall. Remove bathroom double hung window and replace with new casement window of same size. All interior and exterior trim for the window was also replaced with custom made trim.

Randy arrived on time, knew exactly what needed to be done, accomplished the project in the time he quoted and the price for the project was competitive. I am so happy with my kitchen!!! The clean up is far more extensive than I expect a remodeler to do. I don't worry about that. Randy can do just about anything. It doesn't even occur to me to contact anyone else.
Description of Work: Randy did an excellent job in installing a new faucet in my kitchen. A new granite counter top was installed earlier in the week. Randy replaced the plumbing underneath my sink and the faucet. I've known Randy ever since he did a total remodel of my bathroom in 2007 and Randy is the ONLY remodeler I will call. He offers excellent suggestions and tips and explains situations thoroughly to me. I simply love everything Randy has done for me including the total bathroom remodel, a deck, front steps, floor tile in my porch room, two window replacements, a patio door, wains coating in my kitchen and a new kitchen door. I trust him completely in my home and will leave him a key. Randy is personable and his work is outstanding. It is always important to Randy to do an excellent job for his customers. I have recommended Randy to a friend of mine and she contacts Randy as well on all her remodeling projects.

They fixed a ceiling in our sun room, refinished our hardwood floors, removed carpet, and tiled our kitchen and bathroom. They painted trim and fixed a couple of cabinet doors. They refinished floors in our hallway closet that was not in our original bid and didn't charge us anymore. They stayed on scheduled and within budget. They were very professional and left our home clean when they left.

I contacted Remodel Masters via Angie's List for an estimate on porch repair on a second home that my husband and I own. We wanted a new porch floor installed and the lower walls of the interior porch replaced. Randy Capone, the owner of Remodel Masters immediately replied to my email. He came out a few days later and provided us with a written estimate for the new floor and interior walls. Randy and I communicated mainly via email and he was very good at keeping me updated as to when he could begin work on the project. He advised me that he was currently working on another outside project and due to several rainy days, work on that project would be delayed, thereby delaying the start of work on my project. This was perfectly understandable. Randy advised me that he could begin work on my porch on August 26th. He arrived promptly at 9:00AM and began work. As my husband and I are retired, we were both on the premises when the walls and floor were removed. Over the years, my husband has done many woodworking projects (including building a small cabin that he and a friend use when camping). I state this to show that my husband has a solid knowledge of and background in woodworking and construction and is able to judge the validity of the information he is being given and the quality of the work that is being performed . When Randy removed the porch floor and the interior walls, it became apparent to all of us that the project would require much more than just having the floor and interior walls replaced. The house is approximately 60 years old and there was extensive damage to the wood that that the porch floor was resting on. All of that wood needed to be replaced in order to accomodate the Trex Transcend flooring that we wanted installed. Randy inspected the upper portion of the porch in the presence of my husband and myself and found additional damage to the wooden structure. At that point, it became a unanimous decision that the entire porch needed to be demolished and replaced. This, of course resulted in an increase in the cost of the project. Randy and his helper removed the entire porch and installed columns to prop up the roof. Per the city's building code requirements, Randy and his helpers dug four 36 inch footings. A building inspector came out to inspect the depth of the holes and approved that step of the project. Randy then filled the holes with concrete and left them to set up over the Labor Day week-end. He then returned on Tuesday, September 3rd and begain construction of the new porch. Randy used pressure treated wood for the deck frame and the vertical columns. My husband was highly impressed by the fact that although it was not necessary, Randy added stability to the porch by corner bracing the framing of the porch even though the supports are bolted to the concrete footings. He said that this shows that Randy's work is "top notch". Praise from him is praise indeed. The city required a second building inspection once the outside framing was completed, Again, Randy's work received immediate approval. Randy and his helper then installed the interior and exterior siding and then screened in the porch. While his helper did the screening, Randy built steps from pressure treated wood and attached them to the house. He constructed and attached a railing for each side of the steps and per the city's code requirement, added a grippable handrail to the railing. At this point, the third and final inspection was done. Again, Randy's work passed with flying colors. Although per our contract, Randy's work was finished, he was kind enough to hang a screened porch door that we purchased for the entryway to the porch and also installed quarter-round on the interior of the porch floor which gives the project a finished look. He also tightened bolts on a wrought iron railing which were loose. These three additional services were not included in the estimate and we very much appreciated Randy doing these extras for us. Randy and his helpers arrived on time each day and cleaned up after their work on a daily basis. All of the demolition and construction was performed in temperatures of well over 90 degrees. Randy did not sub-contract any portion of this job. He is the owner of Remodel Masters and was on the job each day doing both the demolition and construction himself with limited assistance. He answered all of our questions with great patience. My husband and I feel that Randy's work and craftsmanship is excellent. We believe that our money was well spent with him and that he truly earned what he was paid. We will definitely consider him for future home remodeling projects.E
Description of Work: Remodel Masters removed the existing wooden screened in porch that was attached to the front of the house and built a new screened in porch with Trex Transcend flooring. They installed siding on the lower interior and exterior portion of the new porch and installed screening above the siding. They also built new steps with a railing on each side and a grippable handrail attached to the right side of the railing.

Response from Remodel Masters
My apologies if no one returned your phone call. However, I see on your member profile that you live in Ladue, Missouri (St. Louis, MO. suburb) and it clearly states on my company profile our coverage area: Johnson County, KS, Wyandotte County, KS and only portions of Jackson County, MO. we do not service the St. Louis area...You are more than 200 miles away from us! UPDATE: In case you didn't realize, I am only Human. I may have possibly overlooked your message/request for an estimate and made a mistake by not getting back to you in a timely manner because I am a very busy person to do not even remember your message. I already apologized to you for this mistake but it apparently is not good enough for you after reading your, "UPDATES" listed above. One thing is for certain, you do not know me personally, I have never met you and I have never worked for you. For you to call me, "DISHONEST" only shows your ignorance to others reading your response in my opinion. All anyone has to do is look at the almost 30 other reports on my Angie's List record of previous customers mine WHO DO ACTUALLY KNOW ME PERSONALLY. Most of these reports will include how HONEST and TRUSTWORTHY I am AND it will also show that I one of the HIGHEST RATED CONTRACTORS IN THE ENTIRE KANSAS CITY AREA ON ANGIE'S LIST. What HONESTLY happened is this: I received your "F" report from Angie's List. Angie's List sent me your Membership information that included your EXACT address in LADUE, MISSOURI (Saint Louis, Missouri Suburb) and because I do not remember the message you left for me requesting a free estimate from my company, I simply apologized to you and responded as I did above for you not receiving a return phone call from me or my company. It is very clear to me that you are intentionally trying to persuade others who read this not hire me or my company for their future remodeling project. I will let my 8 year old Daughter read the slanderous response you posted about her Daddy by calling me DISHONEST and let her know that YOU PERSONALLY are trying to take food off of our Family's table. I will use YOU as a lesson to her, we will both go to Church this Sunday and say a prayer for you and others like you. Randy Capone, Owner of Remodel Masters

We called Remodel Masters to give us a bid for repairing and remodeling our bathrooms. Randy was able to come out within a few days. He showed up at the scheduled time and gave us a bid which was in line with other bids we received. We asked Randy to come back to find the source of the bathroom leak and to provide a temporary solution while we decide how to move forward. Once again, he was able to come out within a few days, he showed up on time, and did a great job on the work we requested. Thank you, Randy! It's easy to see why Remodel Masters gets such high marks on Angie's List. Randy is a pro, and we would not hesitate to call him again.

It was a very small job. He's done work for me before and he's always done excellent work. He did an excellent job with the door. Actually, everything I've had done in my house, he has done and it's always been an excellent job. If I need anything done, I will contact him.
Description of Work: I used Remodel Masters to put in a permanent doggie door instead of having put in patio door.

Randy has done at least half a dozen jobs for me in the past from total bathroom remodel to a railing in front of the house. We communicate through email and talk on the phone to work things out. I told him what I wanted to do with the tile and he sketched it out and sent it to me. I bought the tile and picked out the grout from samples he left me. I never actually saw him for this job or the last one. I trust him completely to do a high quality job at a reasonable price. The old floor was removed. New backerboard was put down. Then he laid out the tile. He painted the base boards and replaced them. Put back the appliances. And left. All he left behind was a beautiful new kitchen floor. He also suggested a new sealer for the field stone border that really made it pop.

The project started on time, and like most serious remodeling work in an older home (1930's construction), conditions were discovered that were not anticipated at the outset. Much more plumbing tearout and replacement was required than could be seen before the floor was removed. Remodel Masters was very reasonable and fair in their approach to the changes required, completely explaining all our options and communicating fully at every step. There were a couple of minor problems with the work, which were taken care of immediately and to our complete satisfaction. And they went the extra mile (maybe two) to deliver on their promise to duplicate the plaster moldings that had to be torn out with the rest of the old plaster walls. The result was simply terrific. We found Remodel Masters to be very reliable, honest, and easy to do business with. The product of their work for us is a beautifully restored bathroom that we can be proud to show off. We plan to have them back next year to tackle the kitchen.
Description of Work: Complete bathroom renovation. Demolition back to floor joists and wall studs and replace everything. Installed new water and waste plumbing and all new fixtures. Installed new branch circuit wiring. Tiled bath/shower surround, walls, and tiled floor. Reproduced and installed plaster moldings.
