The work was first-rate. The crew foreman explained everything they were doing, which was exactly as had been described in their bid. They were on-time, took their time and were meticulous in their preparation, pouring and finishing. We could not have asked for a better outcome. I will definitely recommend them to all of my friends in the future and would use them again without hesitation.
Description of Work: We had half of our driveway and a small section of sidewalk placed, about 12 yards of concrete all-together.

So far, their service has not been as per other reviewers. They have not called to update us on schedule, we have to continually call them, several times before they eventually call us back.&nbI'msp; We had to remind them to bring over the color chart for our selection. The estimator specifically told us he would come over after hours and help us pick. Instead, he dropped off a color card. Then we had to keep calling to try to figure out how the color card translated to what our patio would look like. Finally, they're calling us back because they have to order the color tomorrow. Well, instead of coming out to our house, we now have to take off work and go to their office to pick the color. And the stamp pattern we liked most on the website is apparently not available any more. Update -- We met with Carol, and visited the showroom. Carol explained to us that our estimator was getting married this weekend, they have been incredibly busy this spring with new work, and just opened their showroom, so it sounds like our experience is not typical for Overland Concrete. I highly recommend that you follow up with Carol, and visit their new showroom, she took a lot of time to help us understand the process and make sure we were comfortable with them. I feel much better about Overland Concrete Construction now, and look forward to my new patio. Work was performed over two days, amazingly fast! The concrete looks awesome, tomorrow they will come back and clean off the powder overcoat and cut the control joints. Cesar does an excellent job! I'm very glad I paid a little extra for overland concrete to do this job, I am completely satisfied with the results--a beautiful patio!

Response from Overland Concrete Construction
We are so sorry to hear that [removed member name] is disappointed with our service before we have had a chance to do the work for you. We do admit this Spring has been extremely busy and our Estimator Sean, who is the Project Manager on this project has not only been inundated with the Spring rush of estimates and work orders but is also getting married in 2 days! Congratulations Sean! We contact our customers initially to confirm receipt of their contract and to give them a target start date for their project. We then notify them that we will be contacting them close to the project date to finalize details. As Sean is finalizing wedding details I cannot ask him about the details of his communications with Mr. Anton. I talked with [removed member name] just yesterday and arranged for him to meet us at our showroom to choose patterns and colors and have just located the stamp pattern that he liked on our website. At that time he didn't indicate anything but excitement to view stamps and colors. I do wish he had taken a moment to tell me of his frustration personally, but I will take this opportunity as a bulletin to work harder for him. We hope to change [removed members name] perception of us moving forward on this project. We do not like to enter into a project with negativity so we will do everything within our reasonable power to prove our worth. If we are able to correct this issue, I hope that Angie's List will provide an opportunity for our customer to change this grade. Carol Brown- Director of Operations

We had a cracked driveway slab and the adjacent slab was off kilter. They removed these slabs, then poured well- finished and level replacements. They were prompt, informed us of start dates and followed through with all elements of repair. I would definitely hire them again. Although I am just getting around to this review 6 months after the fact, the driveway is in great shape and the repaired area is still like new.

They met with us in advance of the project, and provided a detailed estimate for the work to be done, and I paid a $250 deposit to get the project scheduled. I then paid 1/2 of the balance when the crew started the work, and have just written the check for the remaining balance now that the work is complete. OCC did a terrific job all the way around, and completed all of the work on schedule, as promised. When they were short of a crew member due to illness, Pat Brown, the owner of OCC, came and drove the bobcat to finish the job. They are dedicated to making their customers happy, and Pat came to the house several times over the week's work to make sure the work was done according to plan. While they are not the lowest-priced concrete specialists, they definitely provide comprehensive service and excellent work. We wanted a company that could do all of the grading and gravel, as well as the finished concrete. OCC started and completed the work on schedule and cleaned up the job site nicely after the concrete and grading work was completed. They had various crew members on site throughout the week. All crew were professional, courteous and knowledgeable. We love how the new concrete looks!
Description of Work: OCC re-graded the dirt around the foundation of our house. This involved moving a lot of dirt and bringing in even more dirt to add around the completed concrete work. They tore-out the old garage floor, concrete parking pad, patio, front walkway and steps. Where the ground had settled, they added rock to fill. Then they poured beautiful new concrete for all of those areas. And then graded the rest of the dirt around new concrete. OCC added lots of fresh gravel to our long driveway and a side parking area.

Carol came out a couple of days after I called to get an estimate. Carol gave me some good ideas about what she could do. We received (2) other bids from Angie's List contractor and selected Overland Concrete because of detailed bid and knowlege of work to be performed. Overland was not the lowest nor the most expensive bid. We were lucky enough to see some of the work they had done in our neighborhood. It took about (6) weeks before they were able to do the work, due to schedulling and the rain we had this spring and early summer. Once they come out, they completed the tear out and install in (2) working days. We did have to wait a while to get the forms taken down. But, once the sealer was put on, we were very happy with the results. We had seen the stamping and color off the internet from another contractor in a different state. Carol called them and found out how to do the color. Once completed, the color turned out to be what we wanted. We would use them again in a heart beat.

OC began the project on 7/16/2013 and worked every day, except Sundays, until the job was completed. They replaced my existing two-lane driveway with a three-lane driveway and built an approximately 5-feet by 60-feet retaining wall with steps to the side-yard path. During the project, it became necessary to remove a mature tree. They arranged for the tree removal at a cost of only $450 to me. Part of the driveway was marred by a heavy rain the evening after the concrete was poured. OC removed the damaged concrete and replaced it at their cost. The new driveway and wall are beautiful. I am very satisfied with their work.

Pat and Carol Brown and Brent kept us informed continuously as to the start date. Tony and Caesar were great to work with. Even with some rain they honored their projected start date. Pat supervised the progress on a daily basis. They were honest, friendly, informative, punctual, and did a commendable job. Even in the face of some unexpected obstacles, they kept to a bid price that was already more than competitive. We were very happy.

Excellent experience all around. The owner gave us the estimate and was very knowledgeable about what was needed to repair the defects and install the epoxy. The price was reasonable. Work started on time as promised and was completed on time. The installer was very professional and his work was high quality. The floor is beautiful and we are very happy. My next door neighbor saw the floor and was so impressed he is going to have them do one at his house as well.

Great. I would recommend Overland Concrete Construction ("OCC") to anyone needing concrete repair or replacement. Our front stoop and step were crumbling and settling and the slope on the front step had become too steep (extremely tricky in cold weather). In addition, our driveway had been overlayed with asphalt even though it was cracking, crumbling and settling. After researching several companies on Angie's List, I selected my top five and called all of them for an estimate. Carol Brown (OCC's Manager of Operations) met me for the estimate, explained a multitude of options and gave me an estimate for when the work could be done. After reviewing all of the estimates, I settled on OCC because of the detail of their estimate and the time Carol took to explain the process to me (including the steps they would take to prevent the settling problem we had with the previous stoop). After inking the contract, my wife and I went over a few of the options and decided to add an extra 1/2 foot of width to our front sidewalk. I called Carol, she said no problem and we scheduled the crew. The crew foreman arrived on time and got busy tearing out the old driveway and sidewalk (no small task given the asphalt overlay). They were careful not to damage the existing garage slab or the city apron (or my foundation). By the end of day one they had the old concrete out and started to lay down the underlayment. The crew was back right on time on day two and by the time I got back from work the new concrete was down. It looked great. A few weeks after the concrete was down, Carol called me because of the extreme heat of the summer and advised me to lay a soaker hose on the driveway and concrete to make sure the concrete didn't cure improperly due to the heat. She even offered to bring me a few soaker hoses. I declined since I had a few already, but was grateful for the call and the information. Bottom line, we were extremely pleased. I have a decent wood deck in the back, but am considering tearing it out and going with a stamped concrete installment by Overland Concrete.

I gathered a lot of estimates before choosing Overland Concrete to replace the concrete driveway, walk, and stoop at my house. This was going to be a big job (from my perspective) and a big expense (again, from my perspective). I was leery about what i was getting myself into I had gotten six estimates a year earlier, but couldn't bring myself to spend $6,000 to replace a driveway that was simply deteriorating from road salt at end nearest the street. But after the drought caused my drive and walk to sink to the point that I was afraid I was going to tear up my car just driving up the 5" ledge between the drive and my garage, I knew had I to do something. I figured that if it was going to cost $6,000 in 2011, it would probably be $7,000 in 2012. This time I joined Angie's List specifically to search out the best possible option; I goy another six estimates (from completely different operations than the ones I had randomly chosen a year earlier) and was pleasantly surprised to find that the price wasn't significantly higher than the year before. I had one low-ball estimate under $5,000, but that was too far out of line with the others for me to feel comfortable about. All of the others were $5,800 to $6,500 range. Overland Concrete wasn't the cheapest (they were actually the second highest) but they were in the ballpark of the others, and they came highly recommended. I had a couple of detailed conversations with their estimator, Carol Brown, about the work they were proposing to do, and how it would be done. She explained everything and addressed all of my concerns in a very pleasant and professional manner. So I scheduled the job. I had contact with the Overland Concrete office all the way up to and through the completion of the work. They spent two days at my house (one to tear everything out and one to put everything back). The guys arrived exactly when they said they would, were very friendly and professional, and discussed with me everything that was going on as they were doing it (I stayed home from work while the project was underway, but that was my choice, not a requirement). I had quite a bit of anxiety going into the project; tearing out that much of your "house" seemed like a formula for something major to go wrong, but everything went quite smoothly. After the work was done, they cleaned up the yard (which, much to my wife's relief, was not trampled and destroyed) and everything looks great. I was very satisfied (and relieved).

I'm very pleased with the entire process. This is a very professional company at all levels. I called 2 other companies for comparative bids. One never returned my calls and the other, on the second call, informed me he didn't work on the side of town I live. Overland has replaced several driveways in my neighbor hood so I was already aware of their quality. Some of my neighbors watched the entire process and they were VERY impressed with Overland's work. Coincidentally, a neighbor up the street was getting his driveway replaced by a competitor which they were also observing. They were very uncomplimentary about the job being done on my neighbors. I have recommended Overland to several friends and neighbors already and will continue to do so.

They did a great job. Carol came out and gave me a very accurate estimate. She also pointed out things that I needed to be aware of if I had the job done. She pointed out that I needed to contact my termite company because when steps are removed, termites tend to return. She also pointed out that the bricks are lose on the front of my house and I should be prepared to have them replaced. Other companies did not mention these possible problems. There was a delay of the actual performance of the work because of the extreme heat. However, they did do the work in two days. Jason and his group did a great job. They were very professional and they were willing to answer any questions that I had. They also cleaned up when they left. I highly recommend this company. However, my one complaint is that I had to write them a check (in two installments) to pay for the work. I would have preferred to pay by charge card.

My experience with Overland Concrete was outstanding through out the entire process. Carol Brown came out to meet with me to get the job requirements. She listened very carefully to all the specifics I wanted. She researched my drainage problem and came up with a very workable solution that met code requirements. Her suggestions and attention to detail was very helpful and showed me as a customer she was interested in doing the job right. She provided a very detail contract included all the specifics we discussed and was very willing to make some minor changes to contract that I requested. The work started on the date she said it would. All Overland concrete employees who did the work were first class. The forman, Jason was in constant contact with me during the job to make sure he understood exactly what I wanted so he could make any adjustments as needed. Jason and Casey explain what they were doing as the job progressed to help me understand what goes into a quality job. All employees were friendly and polite and knew their job well. Bob, Jim and Tim did the brick work and were real craftsmen. They truely cared about doing a great job for us. They discussed the brick pattern we wanted before they started and gave us great suggestions. The finished product is perfect and looks wonderful. I attribute the outstanding product to outstanding communication on the part of Overland Concrete personnel both before and during the project. I have never worked with a better contractor.Their bid price was also the best bid I received.

Their price was reasonable. They were easy to work with and they were fairly that took reviews. We had a couple of issues come up even though we were happy with the price. One of my biggest issues was that I was surprised with them because they put an Overland park concrete stamp right on my driveway so it was free advertising permanently on my driveway. It's not a huge stamp and it doesn't really matter but I don't even know I probably signed off on it with all the stuff I signed and I guess I didn't realize it. I got back home when they had almost finished up and found, there was their Overland park concrete stamp right into my driveway. It's in the corner and it's not necessarily obnoxious.

If this doesn't win a Page of Happiness I will be disappointed. Pat, Carol, Cesar, Tony and the rest of the crew at OCC are outstanding. I found them after a different contractor did a terrible job the week before and left me with a walkway that wasn't centered with my front door, didn't have a compacted aggregate base (per the contract), crooked steps, a broken brick ledge, etc (the list was 12 items long). I was fortunate to stop the check in time, but had a mess in my front yard and a mason waiting for a decent concrete base to lay brick. I called two additional companies because I didn't feel good about any of my "round 1" picks at this point given I thought I had chosen the best (who wasn't the cheapest). Pat, the owner of OCC, came by the same day I called and was punctual, professional and confirmed my suspicion that this job had so many problems (including the critical issue of no aggregate) that the best solution to achieve a quality job that would provide a long-term, solid base for my brick walkway and stoop was to remove all the recently poured concrete and start over. The following day I received a detailed contract (3 pages) that spelled out the specifics of my job, how the project would commence and what to expect along the way. Although Pat had initially indicated he was a week out on new bids (everyone else had said a week as well), when another project was delayed he ended up starting just 2 days after I had agreed to the contract. Day 1 involved removing the bad job and framing the new one. When I stopped by during lunch the guys had kept a piece of the "4 inch" concrete that was supposed to have been poured in the first job...and it was barely over 2 inches. They also confirmed that no aggregate had been used on any area of the pour. In terms of the OCC guys, I was pleased to see they had laid plywood in my yard to limit any further damage after the first guys ignored the same request. OCC's plywood actually looked used, implying I really didn't have to ask to begin with and this was likely the standard operating procedure. They also were able to locate the leak in my irrigation system the other guys had caused during their demo process (which had rendered my system useless). Tony, one of the guys on Pat's crew, used to work for a landscape company and was familiar with irrigation systems. Since my regular irrigation company couldn't make it out for two weeks, Tony offered to fix it. Not only did he fix the broken pipe, he moved one of my sprinkler heads to the other side of the walkway (per my request) and then diagnosed another problem unrelated to the job...and fixed it! To conclude my ode to Tony, he was at my house until 7:15 that night verifying the whole system worked, and then teaching me how to adjust the heads myself. I was thrilled. Cesar, the crew chief who has worked for OCC around 15 years, and the rest of the crew were at the house until 6:30pm finishing the framing...and laying aggregate! This was a huge departure from the first guys who showed up at 8:30am and scheduled the concrete to come at 2:30pm the same day. So the first contractor tried to do in 6 hours what should really have taken a full day. Additionally, by framing the day before and pouring the concrete the following morning, it gave me time to double check the dimensions and alignment of the frame. What a thought: catch an issue before the concrete is poured. Something else I noticed was the wood used in the framing. The first job had a ridge in the middle of the steps, which had a 6.5" rise. The ridge was caused by stacking two 2x4's instead of cutting down a 2x8, which is exactly what OCC did. I understand I'm laying bricks on it at the end of the day, but this was another sign of the quality and integrity of the work from OCC in my opinion. I confirmed the measurements and alignment that night and everything was square. The guys showed up the next morning to machine compact the aggregate and the truck rolled up at 10am. By noon the concrete was poured, leveled and broomed. The following day the guys came out to remove the frame, including Pat the owner, and confirm it was a good pour with no structural issues. After the frame was removed I could see along the edges that Pat had included fiber in the pour...an optional additive that should have cost me more money. I'm guessing this was Pat's way of saying there are still some good guys in the business and don't be discouraged. Ultimately, by me sitting down to write this review (something I seldom do), it is my way of saying thank you to OCC and to encourage anyone else needing concrete work to make these guys the first call on your list.
Description of Work: Remove one week old concrete from a very bad job that another company had poured, and pour new concrete to specific dimensions in a quality manner. The project was a concrete base for brick that included 4 steps, a walkway and a stoop.

Although Overland Concrete was not the lowest among the companies I contacted for estimates, they were the most professional with respect to the individual who inspected the work and the proposal submitted. They did the demolition on one day and poured the replacement porch and stairs the next day. Their workers were efficient and polite and the completed work exceeded my expectations. I would not hesitate to recommend them or to use them again.
Description of Work: Overland Concrete replaced my concrete front porch and stairs to the drive, after the porch, for some reason, started pulling away from the house.

Researched and received several bids. Cost was competitive and work was professionally executed.
Description of Work: Replaced two driveway sections nearest the garage and added a 3.5 by 2-foot section under a downspout. Work included removal of old sunken concrete, under drive foundation preparation, the drive pour, dressing of concrete and cutting of expansion seams.
