I recently purchased a foreclosure which tested with elevated levels of Radon during the home inspection. There were some companies that offered significantly less expensive solutions, but not impressed as their bids provided no information and would have been out the basement and up the side of the home which does not look very nice. Midwest Radom came out and we found a route out the basement, through the garage up through unfinished attic space, and out the roof which allowed the exit pipe to come out the roof on the backside of the home. This was actually decided upon during the initial install when we discovered the original solution presented by the estimator was not workable. They were not going to put firestop collars because I live in MO and "that is not required by code" even though I had discussed it with the owner when I first called, because I had done my homework and learned they are important and asked for them. They were going to charge more, but ended up honoring their original offer which I appreciate and feel is reasonable for some 4" PVC pipe, 2 X 2 plastic sheet, 4" radon fan, vacuum gauge, 2 fire collars, and 1 roof penetration flashing with 3-4 hours of labor with 2 technicians. They had to do a penetration from the basement to the garage and from the garage to the attic space. They pulled from an existing outlet for power for the fan and a final penetration out the roof. It took 2 trips to complete the work because it was raining or snowing the first trip they made. They charged $1005.00 for the job and took less than 4 hours to complete. They also performed a follow-up test which showed a decrease in Radon levels in the safe range. I highly recommend Midwest Radon because their price was fair for a good job done to my expectations based on industry best practices which are higher than what the state of Missouri presently requires.

The process was smooth and handled professionally. The team did a review of our house layout, discussed the results of our initial radon testing, and recommended a plan for mitigating the issue. They were flexible with scheduling around the holidays and had the work taken care of in a morning. Levels of radon were completely eliminated as compared to the test before we had the system in place.

This review is way overdue. Around 4 years ago my wife and I purchased an older home with a partially finished basement in Shawnee, KS. At the time that the home inspection was done the radon levels came back right at the 4.0 pCi/L threshold. After putting it off for a while, I researched a lot of companies before deciding upon Midwest Radon to assist with the radon mitigation. The work was done in June of 2018 and I cannot express how impressed I was with the quality of their work AND the price! Once the work was completed (which was just a matter of hours) and the testing was completed, the radon levels in my basement had dropped to 1.1 pCi/L! The workmen were very nice, respectful and really knew their stuff. In addition to the quality of the workmanship of the install (which still looks as good as it did the day it was installed) I was especially impressed with the fact that on the day of the install (a design specialist was sent out prior to put together the quote and find the best location for the vent pipe) the installers and design specialist were able to work together to come up with an even better design which looks great from the outside of my home. Here is the kicker, even though it was more labor intensive than the original design and required slightly more materials, they completed the install on the same day and DID NOT charge me a penny more than what was originally quoted!! This company and its workers truly do care about customer satisfaction!! In my opinion and based upon my experience, you cannot go wrong by going with Midwest Radon ([*** Link removed ***] for all of your radon mitigation needs! Sincerely, Dan Anderson

We knew we likely had radon issues because the realtor told us the reading was 16. Midwest confirmed with their tests that it was 14. I engage them as the least expensive of the full service, reputable, radon mitigation services in the area. Our home has two crawlspaces separated by a finished basement so it created a problem for the budget services like the Radon SWAT Team. The fact that they would not even send someone out to estimate suggested that they were going to be less effective at dealing with my issues. Midwest came out on a couple of different occasions because of the delay that we had in committing to the treatment. They also were willing to spend a lot of time with me trying to design a system that would be low profile and as well as effective. I was very pleased to see them try to keep our expense as little as possible and not install two systems. I was also pleased that they were did willing to do the extra work to put the fan in the attic above the garage and virtually eliminate any signs of active treatment. They were flexible in their scheduling and brought out a crew of three to do the work. They were fast and efficient and were able to be in and out of our home that day. They wanted to determine if the initial system was adequate to lower the reading over all before considering installing a secondary system. Thankfully, their multi-day analysis showed a level of one. I confirmed it several weeks later by ordering a test online that also came back as one. While the $2645 that we spent was a lot, we no longer have to worry about radon or its impact on the salability of the house.

Our radon levels where very high (which was anywhere from 10-14) and we found this out about because a neighbor has a radon reader and did testing on all of us in our cul-de-sac. Only two of us had high levels, I thought I could air out our home, but that actually made the levels rise, which was super depressing. I originally found this company on BBB website as well as several other companies that came highly recommended from the Better Business Bureau. I e-mail the company thru the BBB and Wess replied to my need for an estimate on a Mitigation System by email but also suggested a visual inspection for an accurate quote, which I agreed to. He was very clean, professional, knowledgeable and arrived on time. He gave me a quote which I felt was within industry standards and let me know that because I was an Angie's List member I could get an additional discount. We went with this company because the more I researched, this company seemed to have the best reputation for professionalism, knowledge, quality of the system they use and the quality of the crews that are inside your home. His crew showed up on time, clean, professional with all the equipment they needed to perform the job. They walked me thru exactly what they were going to do and what they needed to know. When we were all on the same page, they went to work which they completed in a timely manner. They cleaned up everything and then we did a walk thru where they explained exactly what they did and how the system worked. They set up a monitoring system which they will pick back up in about a week and hopefully our levels will be where we all want them. They made the whole process affordable, easy and painless. Our neighbor who is handy and does everything himself was so impressed that he will probably use them as well.

From the time I contacted Wes till the time the installers left, everyone was done with complete professionalism. I live in a rural area of Idaho and did not find companies close to me. Searching the internet, I found Midwest Radon and was impressed by the detailed information provided on their website. I called to see if they would make a recommendation for a company in my surrounding area. Gary did not have a recommendation around here but he talked with me at length about mitigation methods and materials. He was very knowledgeable, as evidenced by code, professional society, and ASTM citations. I found his discussion very helpful. If I lived in his service area he would definitely be my pick!

The biggest thing that stood out was the price. They were extremely cheap for the amount of work that was actually performed. They are efficient and were there for about a day; 10 hours and they pretty much took care of things. They found tarping in my crawl space pretty much had radon in it. One of the things, too, about them is that they stood by their product and what they do with their services. They left us a radon test kit and if that kit reaches levels higher than they were expecting they come out and reevaluate what they did initially.

Very well. The technician was very knowledgeable and very thorough. They had to make at least 3 trips back out because the first attempt didn't work because of the nature of our foundation. He came back and had to actually extend the tubing another 20 ft. This would help provide the needed suction for the radon remediation. That was all included in the price. I was not charged anything extra. I was happy about that. I had actually contacted them 4 years ago and they honored the quote that they gave me 4 years ago.

First let me say two important things 1) this is the second time I used Midwest Radon - the first time was in our current home and the service was performed 20 years ago. I mention this becasue they were as good then as they are now! The second thing I have to mention is that this was a very delicate situation because we had not yet taken possession of the new property and the sellers were still living there but decided to allow this work to be done prior to closing. Gary from Midwest had to schedule with the sellers and perform the work with as little disruption as possible to avoid complicating the sale of the house to us. He did so with great professionalism, showed up on time, performed the mitigation, and left leaving the sellers very impressed with their work. Now for the complications. As it turned out there was a crawl space that was contributing to the high levels of radon. The crawl space had to be worked before it could be included in the mitigation system (plastic lining and other details to bring it up to par). Gary called me and explained the situation and also put the sellers at ease about the additional work. He did take a few extra hours but was able to still finish the additional work that day leaving us and the sellers appreciative of the fact that we did not need to reschedule another visit. Gary explained all of the consequences of the crawl space as well as our options - he made me feel like we had all the time in the world to decide and I could take my time with this decision even though I knew he had his crew there and there was some pressure from the sellers to not be inconvenienced any more than was planned for. Gary's patience was a great comfort!! The work was completed including the additional work required for the crawl space, there was NO mess left and the sellers were impressed as well. The radon readings were well below 2 after the mitigation and Gary explained that we would need to have the radon checked in about 3 years to make sure the system was still performing - here is the BEST part.....I asked if I should schedule that with him and make it a regular occurrence with his company - he said no.....that would be more expense than was needed! He gave me the name of a place to get these very inexpensive cans that do the collecting and are then sent to a lab that checks the levels for us for less than 1/3 the price it would be for him to do it!!! I can't say enough about this company, their professionalism, their work quality and their customer service!!! Thank you Gary!!!
Description of Work: The provider did a rather complex radon mitigation installation into the new house we are buying. The radon reading had points as high as 9 (should be well below 4 to be safe) - and there was a crawl space involved that was contributing to the problem.

Wes Hodgden is a Certified Radon mitigator. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Wes was punctual and helped us to determine the best method to mitigate radon levels in our home. Wes' crew who came to install the radon mitigation were punctual and the estimate of time it would take to do the installation was very accurate. Wes also came back to re-test and spent extra time to answer my additional questions. Midwest Radon was a pleasure to work with.

The Midwest Radon team did a great job installing an effective, non-intrusive system that took my home's aesthetics into consideration. I was concerned about how the fan and exhaust pipe would look on the outside of my home but their installation engineer was able to hide the system behind a bump-out on the side of my house. 3 days later, they ran a follow-up radon level test to ensure the system was effective. The day after that, they emailed me the report showing the data as well as a summary explanation. The fan motor has a 5 year warranty that they stand behind....and they've been in business for over 20 years just doing radon systems. They were running about 10 days to 2 weeks out, scheduled my appointment for 9:00 on a Monday, then showed up promptly on time. The entire job only took about 3 hours, and they vacuumed up leaving no mess. The price was the lowest I've heard of for a radon mitigation system. I took advantage of the 5% discount coupon on Angie's List. Note that payment was due at the end of the job and they were not able to accept credit cards. No problem--I wrote a check, but some folks might be expecting to pay the relatively large amount on a credit card for budget reasons or perhaps to earn points. While this did not cause me any problems, in today's digital world, this limitation should probably be mentioned up front. Great folks and an effective mitigation system.

Based on several radon tests we had done in my home, we determined we needed to improve the passive radon mitigation system installed in my home. I contacted several radon mitigation companies and Midwest Radon was the only one that wanted to come out to survey the house before giving me an estimate for the job. They offered and explained several options. Their final estimate was substantially lower than the "phone estimates" given by the other companies. Midwest Radon is a great company to do business with--punctual and professional. The installation was done quickly and professionally. They had to do an unplanned modification during the installation, but stayed with their estimate. We received a final report of the work done and post-installation test. Midwest Radon guarantees their work to keep the radon level below a specific level. We couldn't have been happier with the process or result. Our thanks to Gary, Wes, Steve and Rickey.
