Description of Work: We had a complete re-do of three bathrooms as well as ceiling repair from a bathtub leak. We started in February and didn't end until June so it took a long time. Instructions were not always conveyed correctly to the workers so things had to be redone. Overall, we got what we paid for.
Description of Work: I had them reface my kitchen; paint cabinets, stain wood floor, change lighting, granite counter, back splash, and paint. A full transformation. I would absolutely hire them again. They did an amazing job, kept me in my budget, were a pleasure to work with, and extremely professional. I absolutely love love love my new kitchen. Thanks guys!!

Nick has just made some initial recommendations and assessment. Professional and willing to answer all questions. Nick had a couple ideas on how to ensure success but save on unnecessary expenses. I will update after we receive the proposal and final assessment. We do not know the cost of the job yet but the field was required above.
Description of Work: We are working on a structural issue with sagging floor joists. Need to jack and sister additional support LVLs to provide for additional support and remove ¾ inch of deflection.

From start to finish, the project went great. Nick was a pleasure to work with. He was prompt, professional, and very easy to work with. The subs KC Home Solutions used were outstanding as well. When last minute changes were requested, he and his team were nothing but receptive. Additionally, Nick went the extra mile by discussing these changes in detail to ensure all items/scenarios were accounted for. Overall, my wife and I were extremely pleased with the quality of work they completed. We won't have to bother looking around for contractors for any future projects after our experience with KC Home Solutions, LLC! Highly recommended!

It went extremely well and in a mostly timely manner. The entrance stairs in particular were designed for a grand entrance. I could not be more pleased.
Description of Work: KC Home Solutions has been our contractor of choice since we moved to Kansas City one year ago. They have finished an entire basement three room basement with full bath and bar for us. The work was superior and the price was what we had been quoted. They stand behind their work. They have also replaced the roof and gutters.

We had them put in a 3 piece bathroom, an office/bedroom, a playroom, living room area and a wet bar. We were able to approve all of the plans before work was started and when we had changes they were responsive to make things work out the way we wanted it. They let us know when and who was coming over that day so we knew who to expect. The workers were respectful that we were living upstairs and home most of the time they were here during the day. We are extremely happy with the result and would recommend highly for great quality work.

Extremely pleased with the quality of the work. Room looks fantastic and they were always willing to work with new ideas to customize the room. Every day when their crew left the house they did a fantastic job of cleaning the room and generally tidying up the house. My only critique would be that at times communication could have been better to stay ahead of some minor issues. Everyone was very friendly and a pleasure to work with. I plan to use KC Home Solutions again.
Description of Work: Full bathroom remodel including taking down an existing wall and opening up the room
These guys are great!! Though we didn't have to use their suppliers, we did, and found contractor's discounts passed on to us. Their cabinet supplier helped us design a custom vanity, and then we selected a beautiful granite top. With helpful advice from a designer at their kitchen and bath supplier, we chose all the bath fixtures. Their tile vendors gave us excellent suggestions on tile selection for the bathroom floor, tub surround, and shower. We ordered a couple of items online because of availability and faster delivery time. Their subcontractors did excellent work. They offered good suggestions along the way, and made adjustments as needed. The only cost overruns were in materials because, in some cases, we opted for the nicer stuff. The tile work was particularly challenging, and included heated tile floors and a tiled shower ceiling. They must have been pleased as well. Pictures of the finished project appeared on their website. All of their workers were punctual and neat, "closing up shop" at the end of the day with work spaces in good order. On Friday afternoons they went above and beyond to straighten things up, going so far as to hose off the walkway and driveway and even sweep the street of drywall and ceiling texture droppings!! During the renovation process, if project manager Nick saw something amiss he called workers to return to fix it to his satisfaction! They finished close to the estimated schedule. The final task, the shower glass installation, was held up for a few days because of a delay in a hardware shipment. Since my husband is very handy and capable, we RARELY "hire it done" having done so only once before and it did not turn out to our satisfaction. We were wary of hiring out another bathroom renovation but we've been beyond pleased with the result, and have shared the name of KC Home Solutions with so many people without reservation!! By the way, no hulking industrial-sized dumpster was left onsite during the demolition process. They parked a trailer in the driveway for a couple of days, then drove it away with the stuff!
Description of Work: The project involved a master bath renovation, new carpet for master bedroom, and "popcorn" ceiling removal throughout second floor of the house.

Response from KC Home Solutions, LLC
As always, KC Home Solutions appreciates every review we get here on Angie's List, both good and bad. We are always looking for ways to improve, and also appreciate the positive feedback after we have completed work for our clients. However, we also want to make sure all information is presented in the case of a negative review. Regarding this review, we feel like a negative review is not fair because our Sales Director had an appointment scheduled for Thursday afternoon, and called this potential client to see if he could come earlier due to a conflicting appointment. He left [member name removed] a message and did not hear anything back. On Monday, our Sales Director called [member name removed] to follow up since he had not heard anything, and that's when he learned that [member name removed] had left him a voice mail. For some reason, our Sales Director did not get that voice mail, so had not returned his call. We pride ourselves on returning phone calls as quickly as possible, so if he had received it, a return call would've been made by Friday. Less than 48 business hours had passed since [member name removed]'s voice mail, and he only left one before getting on to Angie's List and leaving us an F review. We do not feel this was warranted due to the circumstances. Lastly, upon our Sales Director calling [member name removed] on Monday, he set up an appointment and went out to the house to review his project the very next day.

I'm sure no job goes perfectly. This was our first major remodel and experience with a contractor. I can't say enough about how much I appreciated working with Trent, Nick, etc, at KC Home Solutions. From the beginning of the project they continued to say how they wanted to be sure I was getting exactly what I wanted out of the job and they followed through. When any setbacks came up, Nick was great about his responsiveness and flexibility. I highly recommend them and would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel; tile remodel; shower remodel; new shower/bath tile
I never imagined we would have a group of men who would work so hard, work so fast, work with complete competence and be such gentlemen at the same time! I have worked with many contractors through the years and it has never failed that just as you think things are going well - the "other shoe" drops! NOT with KC Home Solutions, LLC. Nick Shepherd, the owner, communicates every step of the project and explains different solutions and then lets the homeowner decide what to do. He believes in the art of the possible rather than telling you how it HAS to be done. He wants the end product to be one that you are proud of and one that you can enjoy for many years to come. His company did EVERYTHING for us. New windows, doors, bathrooms, finished basement, hardwood floors and refinished kitchen cabinets, counter-top and backsplash. We went on the HOUZZ website and chose designs that appealed to us. KC Home Solutions made it happen. One VERY common experience is being "nickeled and dimed" to death. It is impossible to know everything that will come up in a renovation and when the unexpected comes up - Nick figures out a way to fix the problem and contain costs. Have you ever had workers in your home that made you feel like you should not be around them? NOT ONE TIME did any of Nick's guys behave this way but rather always greeted us and welcomed our comments and suggestions. During the renovation, our furnace broke and had to be fixed. Rather than complaining - they jumped in and fixed it at a reasonable cost. Nick is a PRINCE of a fellow and surrounds himself with people like him. You will not be disappointed with their workmanship, craftsmanship and "can-do attitude." I have never gone through such a pleasant contracting experience in 60 years!

Working with KC Home Solutions and owner Nick Shepard was a great experience. I had used them previously for work on rental properties, and for "handyman" services on my home, so I was expecting things to go well. But they went even better than I expected in transforming my bathroom that was stuck in the 90's. Here are some of the details: 1. Schedule -- Work was scheduled to start on Feb 7 (which it did), and run thru Feb 25. Virtually all the work was completed in this time frame -- and all except the installation of our new shower door was completed by Feb 28. I was expecting more slippage than this, but was very happy. Shower door is scheduled for March 6. 2. "I'm Not Sure What I Want..." -- I had gotten some design ideas from Houzz and Pinterest, and knew I wanted a granite vanity, new tile floor, shower and tub surround, but making selections seemed like a daunting task. And then there were the ideas that I wasn't sure were practical -- like building a cabinet with doors under a recessed nook, a recessed shelf in the shower, euro shower door, and heated tile floor. Nick was very helpful in determining what was feasible and gave my husband and I realistic budget estimates so we could decide. In terms of deciding among all the different granite and tile choices, he has a terrific granite vendor that showed us several possibilities and the choice was pretty easy. With the granite selected, we then moved on to tile at Premier Tile in Lenexa. They were good at listening to my ideas and coming up with possibilities that kept our budget in mind. Nick also provided his thoughts on what looked good together. 3. Quality -- The KC Home Solutions crew handled the 1-day demo, and also all the plumbing and finishing touches at the end (such as new pulls, new electrical switches, touch up painting and grouting, new vent covers, and clean up). Sub-contractors were used for the granite countertop, tile setting for the floor, tub surround and shower, painting, and electrical. Nick acted as the project manager throughout, and he was in frequent communication with the subs as well as me by phone and text. I always knew who was coming and when. All of the crews were very professional, punctual and friendly. I am so impressed with the tile-setting -- it looks amazing. And the painters spent a lot of time on prep (the way painters used to do) and I am so pleased with the results. 4. Budget -- Before the project started, I was hoping to spend about $10k, and ended up spending about $14k to get what I wanted, and that includes the updated fireplace in our family room, and painting of master bedroom and master walk-in closet. A few years ago, we updated our kitchen, and to this day I regret not spending the extra money for granite countertops. Nick's estimate gave me several options where I could have saved (no built-in cabinet, no heated floor, sliding shower doors instead of the "euro" design) but I chose to have no regrets this time. We won't live in this house forever, but we're going to enjoy it now! 5. Customer Service -- I touched on this above, but everyone I worked with during this process was doing their best to ensure a happy customer. From dealing with our overly friendly dog, to cleaning up each day (the master bedroom was usable every night), to laying protective plastic/paper on our carpet and stairs, every single person was a pleasure to deal with and a master of his craft.
Description of Work: Update master bathroom (including heated floor), paint master bedroom and closet, and update family room fireplace, without breaking the bank.
They told me it would take about 4-5 weeks to complete and they were in complete about a week early. Each day they were very receptive to our schedule and the fact that we were still living in the home while they were working on the basement. Also, they left the job site very clean and picked up each day they left so we could walk down to see the progress. I got weekly updates of the following weeks plans and progress as well as my biggest concern of staying on budget and on time. After everything was done we did stay on budget and were complete early. The best part is that all the work matches the upstairs areas that were built the previous year so you would not know the difference of when this work was done. I would highly recommend them for any home remodeling project.
Description of Work: I was referred to KC Home Solutions from a good friend when I was planning to have my basement finished. I had bought a new home the previous year so I was really wanting good job comparable to the builders work so the basement area would look as up to date and same quality as the upper two levels of our home. We wanted a full finish including a family room with surround sound and entertainment area, a 5th bedroom with closet, full bath with tile shower and tile flooring. They were one of 3 bids and most importantly the bids were very details and Nick the owner actually went through the whole bid with me explain my options on each process to explain quality vs. staying in my budget. He was very informative in explaining areas I didn't not want to cut the budget for quality and many areas he showed me where I could save money and still have a great finished living area.
We highly recommend KC Home Solutions. Nick was invaluable in helping us thru a very stressful situation! Now our home is repaired and looks amazing, better than before the storm. Thank you Nick for your professionalism, prompt action and for showing genuine concern for my family and our home!
Description of Work: We had a tree fall on our house which punched a hole in our roof, broke several rafters, tore up the siding and gutters, and we also had water damage to our hardwood floors during a rain storm. We contacted Kc home solutions immediately and Nick and his crew came to our home during the storm and took immediate action to protect our home, covering to hole in our roof to minimize further damage. Nick helped us navigate the complexities of working with our home owners insurance company. His company was responsible for removing the tree, replacing broken rafters in the roof, replaced siding, roofing, gutters, paint, insulation, refinishing hardwood floors and carpet cleaning.

The office was previously multiple colors and I wanted to create a cohesive, relaxing feeling throughout the space. Since I am not an expert in this area and did not have the free time to do it myself, Trent came out to the office to offer his suggestions for color, etc. and also to quote a price for the job. I received 3 other quotes for this job and KC Home Solutions offered the best price. I also appreciated how friendly and professional Trent was so I decided to hire this company. Derrick was the painter and he did outstanding work. There was absolutely no mess to clean up and the edges are so clean. He also covered my entire space (6-7 rooms + hallways) in less than 3 days. He worked quickly but definitely did not sacrifice quality. I could not be happier with my decision to use this company. I have hired other painters to do work on my house in the past and I expected similar service. KC Home Solutions blew me out of the water. They truly go above and beyond for their customers. They were happy to work outside of my normal office hours, on a holiday weekend, so I would not lose any work days due to the job being done. Trent was great at communicating before, during and after the job and was available 24/7 to answer questions. For this particular job, KC Home Solutions was the most affordable quote I received. However, I would 100% recommend them to others even if they were not the "cheapest." The company prides themselves on doing great work and great customer service and that can be hard to find. I have since hired KC Home Solutions to do work at my home as well.

Response from KC Home Solutions, LLC
While we appreciate all of our client's reviews, we felt this one required a response based on the low professionalism grade. After several emails back and forth, we conducted an on-site estimate that lasted over two hours, as well as advised one of their neighbors on an unrelated project. All of this was at no cost. While pricing is always subjective, we stand by the notion that it always cost more to do it over than it does to do it right, and we insist on doing all projects right. Professionalism is one of the foundations of our company. We have never had a professionalism complaint, so we felt this review warranted a a response based on the grade received.
KC Home Solutions took care of everything and I was extremely satisfied. They sent a great guy to do the work, who really conveyed their appreciation of my business, and didn't make me feel stupid. We walked through the house and the list and he got started right away. He prioritized the work in a way that made sense. For example, he started by figuring out the problem with the front door handle, which ended up having to be replaced. Then he painted the front door, so that would have time to dry while he was doing the other work. I purchased a new handle that was identical to the old, and he pointed out to me that the original handle had a lifetime guarantee, so I'm working on getting my money back. That was above and beyond in my opinion! When he went to open the entry to the attic fan, a lot of insulation and "stuff" fell down, but he cleaned it up so well I didn't even notice. And I now have an attic fan that works! He worked quickly and got everything done on the list, and had me walk around to make sure I was happy and that he hadn't missed anything. This was actually my third experience with KC Home Solutions. I had worked with them in 2012 after purchasing a couple of single family homes to rent. The purchase inspections had turned up a host of issues, but I also used them to improve the properties by installing a tile floor in a master bath, new ceiling fans, bathroom vanity lights, knobs and pulls, a new fence, window well cover, and 2" window blinds. The quality of their work and been great and they are very good communicators -- I always knew where things stood as far as timing and budget. Their prices are reasonable, and I will use them again.
Description of Work: I had a lengthy list of home repairs that were simple, but beyond my expertise, that included weather stripping doors, installing a new self-closing mechanism on garage screen door, caulking second-floor windows that were leaking, painting kitchen ceiling where leaks had stained, fixing attic fan, repairing/installing new front door handle, painting front door, fixing latches on 3 bedroom doors that wouldn't close, and a few other minor repairs. I was actually embarrassed that I couldn't do some of these things myself!
