They installed perforated piping against the house and on several downspout drains. We had to call them back 3 times for: 1. Remove downspout piping that feed into perforated piping that they installed as a so called French drain up against the foundation on two different drains. 2. Connect sump discharge line to a drain line. They originally had it spraying on the ground on the corner of the house. Within the year the last year we have had more rivers running through our basement then before. The channel drain that was installed has water running over the channel onto the floor and fortunately making it into the drain. We have removed 50% of the outside drains and will be replacing all of them with solid PVC with cleanouts at appropriate angles because of the high failure rate. The breaking point was reached when we cleaned out our gutters and found they were still overflowing. Upon further investigation we discovered that the plastic fitting they installed that connected the gutter down spout to the drainage they used 2 - 2" screws that crushed the gutter and there for pinched flow off by 50% and the screws served to catch leaves and debris. The downspout had a minimum of 1' of sludge that prevented flow and caused the gutter to overflow at the foundation. This water went straight into our basement. After removing this corner drain we found the elbow joints they used were also leaking directly onto the foundation and into our basement. Every issue they designed or recommended has failed. If you have drainage problems and want to pay twice for the work call Gordon.
Description of Work: Attempted to install new drainage for each downspout outside using corrugated piping using below ground elbow connections, perforated French drain piping directly against the foundation and fed downspouts into perforated piping. They also new sump pump with channel drain. The end result after $5000 was more water in our basement.

It went great. They installed the initial primary pump 12+ years ago. I was worried the back-up would be unable to keep up with all the rain we have had this Spring. I spoke to Austin at the office who was able to find Matt who could fit us in prior to the weekend. (Called Friday afternoon!) They went above and beyond. Their exceptional service level will make it easier to sleep this weekend, as opposed to worrying about our finished lower level.
Description of Work: Our primary sump pump quit working. Thank goodness they had previously installed a back-up, which began running and alarmed.

We had some issues at first with getting in contact with this provider. We contacted them during a very rainy period of time so I can understand they were extremely busy. However, my wife and I felt that there could have been a little more professionalism from the people we talked to on the phone when we initially called. That being said, everything else from that point on was extremely satisfying. Joe came to the house and walked around with me for about 20 minutes and thoroughly explained to me the things he was seeing that could cause drainage issues. He was extremely thorough and open to answering whatever questions I had. His estimate was detailed and to the point and was about $300 cheaper than an estimate we had previously received from a competitor. Despite the hiccup at first, I would use this provider again.
Description of Work: I purchased the $49 foundation inspection and preventative water leakage plan on 5/18. However, based on lack of response from the provider I have requested a refund. Update: Joe came out to the house and did a comprehensive overview.

When we heard about this upset Angies List Member we quickly contacted them to make things right. We sincerely apologized for our oversight & handling of this request during the extreme rainfall events & work load in late May 2015. We did get them scheduled for their evaluation a couple days later. We are looking forward to meeting with them to give them great service and believe their impression of Gordon Energy & Drainage will change. I hope they consider placing a follow up review at this time. Austin Siemens

An inspection was scheduled. The estimator was friendly, on time, and knowledgeable. A general inspection of all potential work was done. There was no pressure applied, only information presented on how certain problem areas might be addressed, and alternatives were presented as well . I discussed sump-pumps types and prices with the estimator and having put in several pumps over the years, I will, should I need one in the future have it installed by this provider. I had prepaid using an Angie's list special that the company had for that time. A date was scheduled on which the work was to be done. The technician came on time, also was knowledgeable and friendly. He sealed the crack and left the area clean and without debris. I waited until we had a substantial rain to write this review. I checked the basement and its dry - where I would normally have had seepage.

The appointment for the estimate went just fine. It wasn't overbearing or pressure at all. It was pointed out all the areas in which improvements could be made as well as what happens when cracks occur in the walls and in the foundation. The price wasn't cheap, but I was told up front what the cost per foot was (before any measuring was done). I was advised that they were booking about two weeks out. I was pleasantly surprised when I got a call three days later indicated that they could start the next day if it was okay with me. They were fighting bad weather that was moving in and wanted to complete the job before any weather caused more delays. At that point I didn't know if the utilities had been located in the ground, but when I got home, sure enough, they were all marked. The guys arrived around 830ish on a Thursday, we walked around and everything was clarified. They were told of my sprinkler system, etc. in the ground. When I got home that evening, they were gone, and had completed over half the job. I looked at the result and was amazed! It looked incredible. The team did one side of the house and I didn't even know it was complete because it looked so good. The back side of the house had a LOT of rock over the drain (as expected). The next day, they finished up and I was shocked....and in a good way. The look of the finished product was absolutely incredible. As luck would have it, the next day it rained, and rained, and rained...and the new installed sump pump worked great (and I also found out how noisy my existing one was because the new one was a lot quieter). The French drain also worked great...moved the water to where it was supposed to be and away from my house/foundation. Only two small issues...first, one sprinkler head was broke because of the Bobcat and second, a small evergreen push was mangled up a bit. I called and these issues will be addressed. Those are minor things considering the scope of the project. I am very happy with the end result. VERY happy.
Description of Work: French Drain around three sides of the house, extending out about 10 feet past the front of the house on both sides. This included Colorado River Rock, burning all my downspouts and sump pump ejection line. In addition, I had an 17 year old sump pump replaced.

I remember having some scheduling problems with them but they quickly made them right. I had taken a vacation day and sat here and waited for them and they hadn't coordinated, so I wasn't happy that I burned a whole vacation day standing here waiting for a service that never showed up. They gave me 10% off of my bill. The work was good. People aren't perfect. They were very nice when I called to say this is out of control, why am I standing here burning a vacation day waiting and you don't even have me on your schedule. I was not happy. Overall, they did a great job. They did an excellent job you can't deny that. They were hardworking men, that's for sure.

I can't begin to say enough about Gordon Energy and Drainage! This company did an excellent job and I would certainly recommend them to anyone in need of foundation repair. My husband and I began by getting an independent analysis by a third party structural engineer. We believe this part is crucial as we know the engineer will determine what is actually needed for repairs. It was determined that we will need approximately 15 steel piers installed around the back and side of the foundation and lift the house to reach "level 0" as much as the home will allow. After the engineer determined what was needed, we began to get many quotes from foundation repair companies. Our engineer stressed to us that a steel pier is a steel pier and that is the most important part when deciding on a company. All the foundation repair companies came out with sales pitches trying to convince us their steel pier is better than the competition. In the end, we kept what our engineer had said in mind and made a decision based on the price and the company's reputation. Gordon Energy and Drainage was not the lowest quote we received but we were willing to pay a little more to know we're going with an honest and reputable company. One of the things that really stood out to me was the attention to detail this company has. The diagram had everything laid out with so much attention to detail that helped me decide that a company that does such a detailed drawing of the job and site is a company I want working on my home. Not to mention the numerous excellent reviews we read about Gordon on Angie's List and other review websites. The work was scheduled from Tuesday through Friday and the crew showed up right on time as expected. Everything was going smoothly and on time until the second day. The crew discovered concrete "piers" underneath the foundation and along the side where they were attempting to dig trenches for the piers. The reason I put piers in quotations is because what actually was underground was concrete poured without any sort of mold and then re-barred into the side of the foundation. Neither Gordon nor I knew these concrete piers were underneath the ground. This was a huge hiccup in the plan because the company was trying to dig approximately 10 feet down along the side of the house and then dig underneath the foundation to place the piers. Gordon also explained to us that these concrete piers may prevent the house from being lifted because they are essentially pulling the foundation down with the weight of the concrete. This is where a great company stands out from others. Gordon took an approach of total transparency when they presented the issue to me and my husband which I really appreciate. I truly believe that if I had not chosen Gordon, the company I would have chosen could very well have tried to cover up this issue or try to repair it without discussing this with me or even walked away from the job site. Gordon and I both agreed we want the work to continue and we'll have to explore options to remove the poured concrete underground. After the second day both parties left not sure what we were going to do and how we were going to remove the concrete piers. By the next morning, Gordon had already figured out the best route and had rented a heavy equipment attachment to the end of their bobcat that would essentially drill or jackhammer the concrete away and off the foundation. In the end, they were able to continue and complete the job and the house was lifted successfully despite apprehensions from both parties due to all the concrete underground. This company is excellent and they truly do care for your home like they would their own. Thank you Gordon, for your honesty, integrity and excellent work ethic!

I scheduled an appointment for 10:00AM on Sept. 11th to have two cracks in my foundation looked at. Randy called me that morning and told me he was at a home inspection that was running late and asked if I could reschedule for the following day. I told him no problem, I appreciated the call and we rescheduled for 10:00AM the following day. That is the last time I heard from the company. Randy did not show up or call - that was three weeks ago. Very disappointing considering the A rating on Angie's List. The contact I did have with the office staff to set up the appointment and the telephone conversation with Randy to reschedule was very professional so I am greatly disappointed that I never heard from the company again.

This review is accurate. As the owner, I learned about this from this from this posting on Angie's List. Once I heard about it, I spoke with our employee, Randy Mingus, and he told me that he did forget. He took full responsibility. Randy has worked here for over 12 years and this is not a normal occurrence. Randy is a very appreciated employee here and well respected. But, even somebody like him can make a mistake. So, I called [Member name removed] to apologize and explain why Randy forgot to make the appointment as promised. The appointment card that we use fell between his desk and wall and was misplaced. This was a busy week since it had rained quite a bit and we had received over 30 calls in just a few days. During my conversation with [Member name removed], she seemed very appreciative that I contacted her. I asked her if the repairs to her basement had been made yet, and she said no but another contractor was scheduled to do them in a few days. I offered to make the repairs for free as a gesture of good will and to make amends. [Member name removed] said that if the other contractor does not show up or something goes wrong there, she would call be back and take me up on my offer. To any prospective customer who may be considering our company. We are not perfect. Mistakes here are the exception, but when they are made we promise to make them right.

Gordon Energy did a fantastic job. The bid was inline with others. (one didn't even bother to return calls). Joe was very informative and provided good guidance on what should be addressed and what was just normal setteling to keep an eye upon. The work was completed in a single day. the crew got right to work and seemed to know exactly what each was to do. inside work was completed first, and then outside. once completed, they did a fabulous job of cleanup. the yard and surrounding areas where they dug somehow looked better than when they started. they took extra steps to ensure that other drainage lines were left intact, replaced and went above and beyond. extra fill dirt was placed neatly around the foundation and all surfaces swept. very happy with the work.

We chose not to use them only because we had another contractor that we felt would more completely resolve our situation. There was nothing bad about their proposed solution, the other guy was just going to be more thorough. We will definitely contact them again if the need arises.

They came right out and fixed it, they were very professional, they were knowledgeable, they fixed what they should fix, obviously, they missed one crack, we talked about it, he didn't think it was a big problem, I did, he didn't. There was another crack that they fixed on the initial visit, maybe its a crack or something that again they didn't think they should have fixed and it turns out it was a problem so they come back, they charged awful on money. Prompt, thorough and I give them a B on that because I was right and I shouldn't be, maybe they were trying to save me money because it was getting so expensive. I'd rather have somebody tell me that i don't think you need it, lets wait and see and go ahead and say yeah you need to fix everything and then he's wrong, they did me a favor I guess. I might look for somebody a little less expensive, the guy that came out the second time said it was such a small crack, he wasn't even gonna charge me and then I got a bill for 11000$ or so, I don't know, a lot of money that's why I'm giving them a B on over all.
Description of Work: Gordon Drainage and Foundation, I had them most recently this month because I had a crack in my basement wall, they came out and fixed it but it didn't look right so they came right back, they fixed one crack and there's another crack that popped up, they came and fixed it yet they didn't think it was necessary to fix it at that time but they came out as soon as I told them that it was leaking.

I had Gorden Energy pier up a room addition that had a crawl space that was dropping. They were very professional and could put the piers in from the crawl space on one side of the house so that I would not have to have the A/C unit and deck moved which saved a lot of headaches and labor and additional cost to me. They completed the job in a day and half even with having to hand dig the in the crawl space and cleaned up everything once they were finished. I will be having them also come out to encapsulate the crawl space as well. I would highly recommend them to everyone.

Part of it I was satisfied with, they did a lot of drilling through our concrete and put in a drainage system through that, I was not at all pleased with that, that looks very amateurish like, the products they used where the same as where I could have gotten out and it looks like I could get it myself. They did concrete repair and it looked like it didn’t match our driveway at all and looked like something I would have done myself. It was about $12000 on the whole project and I was not pleased. I had to have another company come out now and they are in the driveway. They have a good rating on Angie’s List, I have no experience with that kind of providers so I actually joined to get information with those kinds of providers and they were rated quite high and they do a lot of public works around this area, they do a lot of civil engineering work in our area, so I assumed they would be good and they were rated A on Angie’s List.

The guys from Gordon were wonderful. From the first time we met with Joe he explained the concerns he found, did testing on other areas to rule out additional problems, and he provided a timely response and estimate. He did not make myself or my husband feel stupid when we asked questions and had an appropriate amount of follow up after our initial visit. When the work was to start, the guys arrived early, explained the process, and offered to answer any questions that we had. They worked efficiently and were quick to get things rolling. They informed me on the 2nd day that it would take one more additional day to finish up but this was not a big concern overall as additional projects were added into the overall goal half way thru the 1st day. The guys cleaned the area they were working on very well and actually left the garage floor maybe a little cleaner than it was before they started. Overall it was a very positive experience and we are already thankful that the basement was dry following the little rain we got this past weekend.
Description of Work: Moved garage wall back into place as it was falling into the house which created a crack in basement wall - this included excavating the dirt from outside the house, adding in steel beams to hold the wall into place, filling the crack, and then returning the dirt on the outside to make our backyard look like a backyard again Added in drainage system to basement wall - added in a drain system from the windows, filled in the low spots to ensure water was properly draining away from the house, adjusted guttering on the house to match what they were installing, and added in new window wells

The work was explained to us very nicely before they started so we would know what to expect. The workmen were very kind and courteous. They did a pretty good job of keeping the areas in the house that they had to go through as clean as they could. The job was to take two weeks, but they were able to finish one day early, which was great since Christmas was the next week . All in all, I feel that it went well and their guarantee for the lifetime of the house gave me great comfort.

The process went very well from start to finish. I had received bids from 4 other companies, and I wanted to make sure I was as comfortable as possible with the process, timeline, company, price, etc. The top three things that were important to me from a decision making standpoint were experience, scheduling, and company history. For experience, I wanted to make sure that the company performing this work for me had completed this process enough times to be comfortable with it. While I wish everyone success and understand they need to start somewhere, I just didn't feel like some companies had enough experience doing this, and that made me a little uncomfortable. From scheduling, I had some fairly steep requirements. Gordon Energy was extremely flexible with me on the dates, and they were able to do it much quicker than some other companies I received bids from. As for the company, I wanted a company that had been in business for a while. While there's no guarantee that any business is going to be around forever, I just felt more comfortable going with a company that has been around for decades over a new company. This was just a preference for me, and may not be as big of a deal for others. When I initially contacted the company, it definitely felt more formal than a few other companies. I called their main number, someone answered the phone with a formal business greeting (as opposed to going to a VM box or someone just answering their cell phone). They were polite and set me up for a visit the following day from a "certified structural evaluator." The next day, Dave Zwickel showed up precisely at the scheduled time, and we started discussing my concerns. By this point, I had already had a lot of dialogue with 4 other companies, so I had a pretty good idea of what I needed, but I didn't immediately rush out and tell him what I was expecting (which was 17-22 piers) because I didn't want to influence the evaluation in a negative way. I wanted to follow the though process and let him point out as much as possible. I suppose I also wanted to make sure that I was getting the same recommendation from multiple companies. Dave performed a visual inspection, and then diagrammed the house, and took level measurements with a few instruments. Once completed, he talked about various options, and ended up suggesting 21 piers for the areas with settlement. Dave then told me about their products, and gave me a bid on the spot, based on the number of piers. They were about in the middle of the bids I'd received, price-wise. One of the things I really appreciated is that at no point was Dave pushy about the job. He was clearly interested in making sure I felt comfortable with the process, but managed to avoid both pressuring me or being overly nonchalant. I expressed my concerns mentioned above, and that scheduling was going to be a key component for me due to other work I needed to have done and its timing. Dave indicated that if I also had some flexibility, they might have more options since the weather was bad and a portion of my job would need to be completed indoors. One of the other things that I preferred about this company was that Dave left me the diagram, indicating the positioning of all of the piers. Not all companies did this. After some discussion with my wife, we decided to have them perform the work. We contacted Dave a couple of days later, and he checked the calendar and found that they had an opening within a couple weeks which worked for us. He then came by to take a few more measurements and pick up the contract. We put down a deposit (which was less than what was required by other companies) to secure our spot on the calendar, and started prepping our house for the work. We were told that the work would take about one week to complete. The crew showed up on the first day, and the foreman, John, did a walk-through with me. He told me what to expect, and we covered the items that Dave and I had spoken about (we did a number of piers on the inside of the house from my basement for various reasons). The crew put tarps down on the tile, plastic down on the stairs, and in general tried to be as considerate as possible. Of course, when you are breaking out concrete with a jackhammer in the house, and you need to pull up carpet and tile, and dig underneath the footer, things are going to get a little messy. I anticipated this, and had the house as prepared for it as well as possible. I neglected to move a number of things, but they made sure to clear all of my personal belongings well out of the way to avoid getting them dirty or damaging them. Throughout the process, everything went relatively smoothly (more smoothly than I anticipated, actually), but there were a couple of minor issues. In each case, they notified me right away (even though one of them in my mind was rather trivial), and took care of the issues promptly. One of the things I was a bit more concerned about was my neighbor's yard. On one side of my house, they used a Bobcat to pocket dig against the side of the house, and needed to put some dirt down right on the property line. They put down plywood to try to avoid harming his lawn as much as possible. It was cold and rainy, and I was expecting the worst, but aside from some loose dirt, I think they did as little damage to the lawn as could be reasonably expected given the circumstances. Throughout the week, I had several people from their office stop by to see how things were going. Everyone I met was friendly and appropriately attuned to the work that was going on at my house. Dave stopped by a few times as well to make sure everything was going well. I wanted to make sure that during the outside portion of the work, they didn't harm my neighbor's sprinkler heads. Dave did a walk-over on them and didn't find anything damaged, but told me to contact him if they found anything with one of those heads in the Spring, which I thought was very courteous. On the fifth day, which happened to be the last day of the work, they did a nice job getting everything cleaned up inside and out. The crew gave the option of leaving the excess dirt for me (for improving the grade around my house), but I didn't feel like I would be able to do much with it until Spring, so I had them haul it off. They had dug through some of my river rock and the buried french drain on the outside of my house, so they brought in a french drain expert and repaired it, and Dave personally went and acquired some matching river rock for the top of the drain. When they were finished, I almost couldn't believe all of the work they had done. Everything was back in its right place, and aside from some smooth concrete patches on my basement slab, you wouldn't of known they were even there. It's definitely worth mentioning that this crew went well out of their way to make sure to try to preserve as much of my landscaping as possible (digging on the inside of the garage, rather than the outside; pocket digging in between bushes as opposed to strip digging and having to remove them, etc.). I know some of this was likely more work for them, but they did not complain about it. Since they've finished, Dave Zwickel has followed up with me a couple of times making sure that I'm satisfied with the work. Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome, and I feel that anyone who deals with the folks I dealt with (Dave in particular) will be very pleased should they choose Gordon Energy to do their foundation work. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
