All folks we interacted with, from TimO (our estimator and also the work crew leader) to Dan and Wes the (owners) were professional, responsive, and just fantastic to work with. We would highly recommend this company to anyone.

Wes, Dan and their crews were great to work with from start to finish. We worked out the initial scope of the project with Wes and then Dan and crew supervised and completed the actual construction of the deck. If you are considering DW as your deck contractor, I would encourage you to visit their office to see examples of the various deck products and enhancements that are available. The ability to see decking and lighting options, completed structures, interior roofing, and an outdoor fireplace was very helpful as we designed our outdoor living space. The crews that worked on our project were all very courteous and skilled craftsmen. During the project, a few construction issues arose, and in each instance, Dan was immediately responsive with creative alternatives that made the final product better than we originally envisioned. DW's products and craftsmanship are first rate and I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to add an outdoor living space to their home. You can find cheaper contractors, but remember, you get what you pay for; and with DW, you get an excellent product when the construction dust settles.

Overall, the most satisfying contractor job for its size we have ever had done in our 40 years of home ownership. The company owners and workmen showed up, on time, the first day. Our all inclusive pre-start discussion reaffirmed what was to be done, and who to contact if questions arose. The guys on site were amazingly efficient in their work sequencing. Tearing down the old elevated 12 x 16' deck and stairs, then pouring new concrete piers, and then custom building a larger elevated 14' x 20' deck and stairs, hauling off all old decking and debris, in two days, to include spotless cleanup, in my humble opinion as previously stated, is absolutely amazing. And you could not ask for any better quality of workmanship. Our deck is absolutely gorgeous.

My review applies only to my attempt at getting a bid from this company, not from work actually done. I contacted DW Elite Decks through Angie's List on 8/19/2011 about replacing our front porch. Wes quickly responded with a voicemail and an email. A couple of days later I replied to his email with additional information about our project and asked him to let me know when we could meet to discuss it. I hadn't heard from him for a few days, so I then called his cell. He said he had been very busy, which is understandable, but promised to email me back that night or the next day. I never heard from him. It's been almost three weeks since my initial contact through Angie's List. Unprofessional. I recommend other Angie's List users look elsewhere for a contractor.

The process went exactly as described, they were always on time, efficient, courteous and professional.

Thanks to Dan & Wes, I am now the proud owner of a gray composite double deck with black spindles. This replaced the old deck built in 1987. It looks great - family, friends & neighbors are very impressed with the project. I did get 2 other bids but I chose DW Decks because of several reasons -- quality was a priority yet it had to be affordable. I appreciated the fact that the workmen are employees of the company. Wes was very cordial, easy to talk to and explained everything. I also visited their showroom. I was amazed at how quickly this project was finished--1 week! And I will compliment the crew for their clean-up.....I did not have to pick up one item after they left.

My DW Elite Decks porch is beautiful! What a bunch of hardworking guys! The crew showed up on time and worked extremely well together. Most days they arrived even before it was light out! The project was completed before the estimated time. Would highly recommend! A + job !!!

My husband and I have done a number of renovations to our house in the past few years and have worked with a number of contractors, and I must say that working with DW was an absolute delight. They were on time for every appointment looking clean cut and very professional. Tim paid very close attention to our vision and thanks to the DW team with in 4 days of them arriving we are now the proud owners of a BEAUTIFUL Evergrain composite deck. "I GOT DECKED!!!"

After receiving estimates from several companies, we decided on DW Elite Decks. They replaced our existing CCA deck with a beautiful 2 Tier Evergreen Composite Deck with black aluminum spindles. I couldn't have been more impressed with the work from start to finish. The estimate was extremely well done and the salesman knew exactly what we were wanting. The work was started on time and the crew was always very polite. At the end of everyday, they always cleaned up any trash that had developed during the day. The decks were completed on time and we couldn't be more happy. We are definately going to recommend DW Elite Decks to all of our friends and family.

I wanted something fixed, but he wanted to send me a whole new system. I had another company come out and do what I actually wanted for a lot less. I talked about lots of things that did not relate to my project.

A problem with my phone line may have been the cause of the delay.

Thanks to DW Elite Decks we are the proud owners of a newly constructed 2nd story screened-in porch and lower deck. Wes & Dan were very professional to work with and from the beginning carefully personalized the plans for our setting and needs. They took care of the proper permits and the problems that occur with those entities. The quality construction, along with good communication and attention to every detail put us at ease. Dan was always on the scene to answer questions and supervise the project. The crew was efficient, courteous and very hard working. We highly recommend DW and know any client would find them a great team to have for their project.

The project started ahead of schedule with the old deck being dismantled. The crew was on site every day at 7am. Debris was hauled alway almost every day. The crew were friendly and courteous and went about the task at hand without delay. This was a fairly large project so there was communication back and forth almost daily. The owners of the company are involved in the projects and if you call them they answer their phone or return your call in a timely manner. We would recommend Elite to our friends and family but more importantly we would use them again. We have given Elite permission to have a prospective customer call us or come by and check out our deck. We did have an issue with a city ordinance but Elite continued to lobby the city and in the end gained approval for the design of our new deck.

DW Elite Decks replaced our 13-year-old CCA wood deck with a new Timbertech composite deck in June, 2007. They also installed new concrete piers to provide a secure structure to support the deck. When they initially completed the work, we were very pleased with the overall solid structure of the deck and the workmanship from the ground up to the deck floor. We weren't completely satisfied with the appearance of the horizontal boards which are attached to the large vertical wood posts and to which the spindles are connected. We brought these issues to their attention and those were addressed to our satisfaction. For the most part, these issues were related to the the Timbertech product itself and not the workmanship of the DW carpenters. When the same horizontal boards had cracking problems nearly two years later, DW promptly replaced them without any questions or cost to us. All in all, we are very pleased with our new deck. DW Elite Decks provided us with a beautiful new deck and did so with excellent workmanship, professionalism and timeliness. If I were to do it all over again, I would again use DW but I would probably choose a different material, either natural cedar or some other type of composite. That is no reflection on DW as I believe they were not aware of the issues with Timbertech prior to this experience. In fact, I am sure they incurred a significant amount of labor costs in replacing the defective components. I would recommend DW Elite Decks. Based on the quality of the services they provide, they will not be the least expensive bid you receive. Thus the price grade we have listed.

From the sales process through cleanup, they were extremely thorough, efficient and professional with a huge emphasis on quality. This is a company that really seems to care about its customers. We knew nothing about what makes a good deck, and they took the time to educate us on what to look for. They even encouraged us to get other bids so that we could feel confident in making our decision to hire them. The owners are extremely accessible and easy to reach and they have a nice showroom so that you can see the quality of the work they do. I have recommended this company to close friends and would not hesitate to use them again.

We were referred to DW Elite by family who had worked with them and recommended them very highly. When I called I immediately got Wes who arranged to come out and give us an estimate. Just to get a feel for what was out there I had arranged a few other estimates prior to contacting Wes. Based on the recommendation I had received I thought I would likely use them... but I wanted to have something to compare them to. Goodness did I get a comparison! The first fellow kept talking about "putting his crew together this year" and a few other things that made me feel like the people that were going to be working on my house were going to be as much strangers to him as they were to me. No Thanks! The next two fellows that showed up looked like faces I had seen on the wall at the Post Office- one even asked if we minded if they had a beer or two towards the end of the day as they were working!! By the time I met Wes he was a breath of fresh air. He showed up on time, well dressed and prepared for what he needed to do. He answered all of our questions with an obvious knowledge of what he was doing and let us know what the implications were of different options from what the city was likely to require to what the costs were in rough dollars. He made several sketches and we agreed on a design layout. Wes asked for a bit of time to figure a formal estimate and got back with us right away with the formal estimate. It was figured in such a way that if we decided to scale back a part such as the roof or lower deck we could see how that would affect the price. We went ahead and gave Wes the go ahead on the spot. We scheduled a start date of about 3 weeks ahead, as it turns out when having to work with the city of Olathe a month's lead time is sometimes optimistic, sadly. It took about 3-4 weeks just to get the plans and changes approved through the city. They started about a week after everything was approved. The DW crew was always on time and looked like they worked very efficiently. The overall project took a couple of days longer than expected but they always communicated with us and let us know the status. Dan, the other owner of DW Elite was at our job site most every day checking on the progress of the crew and working with us. Dan runs the construction crews and oversees all the work. He is a great guy to work with, he is not afraid to get his hands dirty and gets right in and works with the crew. Dan is also great with questions and took the time to make sure all of ours were answered. One of the best experiences I have had with a company in a long time. I have already referred DW to other family members and friends and would refer them to anyone.

It was lousy. In order to get the deck permit issued, someone needed to submit an application for the Board of Zoning and Appeals which was meeting in almost 2 months. This was due to the fact that replacing the existing deck (even though the same size and shape) was encroaching on a side yard setback code that had been legislated since the original deck was built. The city planner did not give us confidence that our application would be successful. We had several discussions with the contractor. The contractor would not refund us our down payment. We felt that we should have the refund because we could not get the deck built in our timeline and how we had wanted it completed.

We requested someone come out and discuss our plans to build a 3-season room and deck. We made the appointment for 8:30 on a Saturday. Wes showed up at 5:30 on the prior Tuesday, thinking the appointment was set up for then. After informing him otherwise, he came back on the Saturday and spent approximately 30 minutes with us (others who bid on this project were with us for 1.5 - 2 hours). He promised we would see an initial drawing and rough estimate in 3 days. As of today, almost two weeks later, we have seen nothing. We did receive a hand-written letter from Wes, asking that we consider them for our "deck remodel", which is not the project as we do not currently have a deck at all. The letter did not contain any drawings or estimates, either. Additionally, and this may just be my pet peeve, Wes directed the entire short visit to my husband only and did not include me in the discussions. When showing us photos of their previous jobs, he directed the album in my husband's direction only, making the pictures upside down for me. The letter was also only addressed to my husband. It was disappointing that I was not in any way acknowledged, given I am a 50% decision maker (if not more) on this project. I was very surprised at the lack of attention this request for bid was given. Our project is going to run approximately $40,000 and it would seem a project of that cost would be desired by a company. I would not recommend DW Elite Decks.

I never received a bid after spending about an hour with him when he came to see the work I needed done. He rescheduled the appointment the first time. I called about a week after he had been here to ask about the estimate. He told me he forgot about it but would get it send out soon. I'm still waiting????

We waited a few months to do the job (were not in a rush and it was winter), but since it was a smaller job, Wes fitted us in during April. The job was completed in the time estimated which included cementing 16' cedar support posts, cedar deck and rails, and black galvanized spindles which really make the deck look classy. It went from an eye sore to a beautiful addition to the house. Since then we have added a beautiful new sliding glass door to our bedroom which makes a world of a difference. We actually use the deck now! We highly recommend Wes and his crew and would hire him for another job in the future.

Wes Barbour showed up and gave us the estimate within just a couple of days of our inquiring. The work was started within the time frame he gave us, and the crew who built our deck/screened porch was great! They showed up on time every day, each day when they left it was neat and clean. We knew from the estimate they would use good materials, but even expecting that, the biggest surprise was the quality of both the materials and the work! We've had screened porches before, and this is by far the best we've ever had! They used gorgeous cedar - really high grade! The posts were 6 x 6, not the 4 x 4, or even 2 x 4's I've seen on other decks. They did an incredible job - the door fit perfectly, and even unseen details, like they lined the floor joists with screening before they put on the floor boards, so no bugs can get in that way! We DEFINITELY will use them again, because they built the best porch I've ever had or seen!

Wes, one of the two owners, responded promptly to our request for a bid, came to the house and sized up the project, went over the details we required, and submitted a bid within a couple of days. He explained the current code requirements for materials and changes since our first deck was built. We specified that extra care was needed around the perimeter since we have established gardens, and he wrote that into the contract. The scheduling could have been better, but this is their busy season and they ended up changing dates at our request. The entire project took just three days. They had an excellent crew of young men who worked hard and fast in miserably hot weather. They used good quality cedar for all the surfaces, and the completed deck looks great. Clean-up was thorough.
