Description of Work: Color Splash was recommended by the cabinet company I used to remodel a home. Although Color Splash was the most expensive bid, I hired them to paint the interior of the house, which included priming and painting new cabinets, applying a glaze around the kitchen cabinet doors, drawers, and center island, refinishing a few existing cabinets, re-enameling window and door trim, painting walls and ceilings. | |The experience and quality of workmanship was disappointing. There were a multitude of issues and unprofessionalism that are too numerous to list, but below is a sample of some of the problems. | |Firstly, the agreement was payment upon completion of the job. A couple of weeks into the project, the owner, Nolan, began insisting on partial payments, ultimately demanding a total of $13,000 before the main part of the job was completed. However, payment of $5,000 was left pending or whenever the master bedroom, bathroom, and a half bath were ready to be painted. | |Secondly, after being paid the $13,000, he did not follow through to finish re-painting or to touch-up certain cabinets, walls, and trim that his crew did a poor job on. He did not glaze the kitchen cabinets and refused to reimburse the amount he charged to do them (approx. $2,000). A couple areas "flash" when lights shine on the woodwork and cabinets, which he said he would re-spray but never did. Two of the new pantry cabinet doors were poorly primed and painted and the difference in texture and finish is noticeable. A cabinet in the basement wet bar that I paid an additional $300 to refinish does not match the existing cabinets and although he said he would correct the finish, he never did. Some areas of trim have the wall color smeared on the sides and some walls need to be touched up or repainted due to the poor quality of paint. His workers damaged a french door by dropping it when they removed it from the hinges, but when I brought it to his attention he denied the crack was caused by his workers. | |Thirdly, the agreement included using only Sherwin Williams brand paint and their quality lines for walls, ceilings, cabinets and trim. Instead, the Sherwin Williams paint he did use on the walls, come to find out, is most often used as ceiling paint. The walls inside of closets were supposed to be painted with the same enamel as the shelves and trim, which later he rescinded using enamel paint due to the cost. He said using the same paint for the walls inside the closets as all the other walls would save money. However, he never discounted the price as he alluded he would do and instead kept the cost savings for himself. The enamel used for the new cabinets and trim ended up being some other brand other than the Sherwin Williams quality enamel paint that he showed me before beginning the work. When I showed him the can of Sherwin Williams enamel paint he left behind as the paint he would use and tinted to the color I selected, he denied it was his can of paint, claiming he didn't know where it came from. He never reimbursed the price difference between the cheaper paint he used and the Sherwin Williams top of the line enamel he was supposed to use. | |I do not recommend hiring Color Splash or giving him one dime before the job is completed to the customers satisfaction, regardless of how much the owner complains, justifies, whines, threatens, raises his voice, or bullies to be paid ahead of time.
