Chad came out for an estimate and impressed me from the beginning. He was exceptionally thorough in explaining what needed to be done and how he would go about doing it. Patiently answered all of my questions, of which there were many. Estimate was very competitive for the work involved. The day of service was even better. Although Chad encountered some issues due to jury rigging by the previous owner, he worked around them without any issues and without raising the price. Was there for nearly four hours, and a model of professionalism the entire time. I wish Andy the best in growing his business. Will definitely call these guys when I begin work on my downstairs shower.

Chad was able to meet us on a Saturday, since we live out of town. He was on time and very professional. His bid was reasonablle and once the work started he was very good to talk and coordinate with us and/or the contractor, as there were a lot of different steps that had to be done. I know the job was hard and messy as it involved a crawl space in an old house, but he completed it without any issues. The work was great and we will definitely use Andy's Pipe Dream and Chad or Andy again.
Description of Work: We purchased a very old house in Kansas City to rehab. We had to have the existing drains and water lines demo'd and new ones placed to the kitchen and bath on the first floor.

This was a job where the owner and the property we worked at were in two different cities. Everything went great from start to finish on this project. Half of that is us and the other is you. Communication is so important for us to be able to complete this to your satisfaction and you were great to work with. Without your wonderful cooperation we would never be able to complete a large job like this. Thank you so much.

My water heater was leaking water so I called these guys Dan showed up on time and immediately determined that the 12 year old water heater needed to be replaced. I asked 3 times if he thought it could simply be the drain valve. He said that heaters only last about 10 years so I should have it replaced. Each time he I asked he just said no and that heaters this old will most probably have weld or other leaks. He didn't want to check the drain valve because it might make things worse! He quoted $1100 to replace a 50 gas hot water heater with a 6 year warranty! I wanted to think about it - THANK GOD - and got a proposal and he left. He soon returned to offer to replace the drain valve for $130.00 to see if that was it and then if not put that towards the cost of the new water heater. I wanted to think about that - THANK GOD - and got it in writing and he left again. A quick trip to Home Depot to look at water heaters and drain valves taught me this: The cost of a new 50 gal heater with a 6 year warranty is about $500 so that would have left $600 for installation - I think quite high! I was told the job would take about 2 hours at most! The cost of the drain valve replacement and some plumbing tape $6.00 I brought the new valve and tape home, unscrewed the old, screwed in the new and managed to not have that done to me! New valve - 1/2 hour of my time - and no leak anymore! If you want a new expensive water heater installed - maybe these guys are the ones? If you want your water heater repaired and save some money don't call them!

Ouch. This was complete failure by us and I apologize. Our technician felt that the water heater was leaking and suggested replacement. When the client urged us to take a closer look at the drain valve our technician again directed him towards replacement. There are times when a leaking water heater is not easily identified to be the tank (requiring replacement) or a component of the water heater (repairable) and when this this happens our normal course of action is to educate the client about what's happening and then let them decide for themselves how to spend their money. In this situation our communication was so poor the the client felt (and rightly so) that we were taking him to the cleaners... I have called and apologized to him and feel that if our communication was better he would have paid us to replace the drain valve and all would have been well. He was very reasonable on the phone and I appreciate him allowing us the chance to apologize. As far as the poor grades for response and promptness, we answer his call quickly and arrive on time. But again, if we really mess up part of the job it really affects the whole review. It's just human nature. On the price issue, we can't and don't try and compete with the big box stores. It's comparing apples to oranges as far as the service you receive and when it comes to warranty there is a huge difference in how we handle that also. In speaking for my technician, Chad, who was on that job he is an honest, trustworthy person and 99% of the time gets amazing reviews and receives many requests for me to send him out. He just communicated poorly here and the client responded how most people would. I did ask him to please give us another chance in the future and I can hope that he will. I know we can't make everyone happy, but this negative review was one that was entirely within our own control to avoid.

After discovering a lack of hot water, I went down to the basement to find rusty water on the floor and the water heater firebox filled with water. I called Andy's Pipe Dream and they told me Andy would call shortly. He did and I was relieved that he would be able to take care of it that same day. We discussed the problem, he told me how things would work and that he could have someone here in about 45 minutes. Fantastic! About 45 minutes later Chad arrived. He looked things over and we discussed the options. I gave him the go-ahead so he got things started and then went to pick up the water heater. He installed it, cleaned up and showed me how everything worked. Took approximately 4 hours from my first call to a warn shower. I am quite pleased with this company, including both Andy and Chad, and highly recommend them. The prices were fair and reasonable, they were up front about all the costs, true to their word and fast. Couldn't ask for a better experience.

Emailed Andy Sunday night, he called me first thing Monday AM, arranged appointment for Wednesday.Chad called in route, told me he'd be on site in 30 min, true to his word he showed up, assessed hot water tank & semi clogged drains. We discussed another companies re and he quoted identical items for me to consider.Called office Wed Am, Chad called me within10 minutes and we set schedule to install two 50 gal hot water heaters and unclog a master drain sink on Thursday. He told me he'd arrive at 0800 and be done in approx 4 hours.Thursday Chad rang our doorbell at 0800, proceeded to walk through what he was about to do. Andy arrived with the two hot water heaters and helped Chad get everything set up for Chad to do the work. They were finished and out the door by noon, 4 hours just like promised. Courteous, prompt and professional A+!!!

Andy came out on Wednesday to give an estimate for cleaning out two bathroom sink drains that took several hours to drain on their own. He wasn't sure if using the snake would be enough, so he also submitted an estimate on a "worst case scenerio" just in case they were too clogged to snake out and had to be replaced. He showed up the next day with his employee, Chad, and they proceeded to clear the drains. Both lines had several clogs in them and all cleaned out easier than they had anticipated. They cleaned up their mess and left their workspace spotless, leaving my mom and grandma very happy to have working drains again. From the time they arrived to the time they left was approximately two (2) hours. They were very prompt, courteous, friendly, and only too happy to explain exactly what they were doing at any given point during the project. Andy went above and beyond by pointing out a few areas of pipe for my mom to keep an eye on as he thought they would be the most likely candidates for future repairs (the house still has galvanized pipes).

Chad came to the house on the same day we requested an estimate. He gave us two estimates--one for replacing the two pipe sections and a second one for replacing the entire system. We called the following week with our decision and he came the next day to do the work. Although he arrived during the time span he had promised, he called to say he had to detour to take care of a customer’s emergency. He called again to say he was on his way. Overall Chad spent about two and a half hours to cut out the old pipes, install plastic replacements and a new clean-out and to do a complete cleanup. It is worth mentioning that Chad is polite and personable ,and patient with the questions we asked.
Description of Work: Two sections of cast-iron soil pipe in our 55-year-old house had developed blisters which promised to turn into future leaks. The two sections were removed and replaced with plastic pipe, and hangers were added to pipes in the rest of the system.

On the first day, the plummer showed up right on time and was very courteous and professional. He listened to my description of the issue, explained the associated fees with clearing the drain and got to work very quickly. Unfortunately, the clog was a bigger issue than he anticipated. He worked for about 2 hours trying to make progress on the clog but was unsuccessful. He explained that the next course of action would be to open up the kitchen ceiling to gain access to the plumbing, remove the drain from the sink to where it ties into the main drain and replace with all new pipes. He offered to apply the $120 pipe drain cleaning fee to the additional work which would likely cost $600-$800 not including repairing the ceiling. I agreed to the work and he put us on the schedule for the next day. The following morning, Andy (the owner) called and asked if he could come by earlier than planned. When he arrived he was also extremely courteous and professional. He talked me through what his employee, who had called in sick that day, explained to him. We mapped out where they would have to open up the kitchen ceiling and discovered it was a large part of the kitchen. Andy said that while his employees are very thorough, he wanted to try to clear the drain himself before cutting open our ceiling. He ended up working on the drain for at least 2 hours, not including a run to get a new snake tool. In the end, he finally got the drain to completely clear and it now drains faster than at any point in the 7 years we have been in this house. To top it off, he didn't charge me a penny more than the $120 I paid the first day. It would have probably been much easier for them to cut open our ceiling, they certainly would have made more money doing that, but Andy knew it would be a major inconvenience and unplanned expense right before Christmas for us. He chose what was best for us, not necessarily the short-term for his business and in the process gained a customer for life!

He completed the work we agreed upon in a timely mannner and gave us his complete attention.

Fantastic customer service, responsiveness, and professionalism!!
Description of Work: I was in the process of replacing a bathroom sink faucet. Due to the design of the faucet, I couldn't figure out how to complete the removal. I found Andy's Pipe Dream on Angie's list and gave them a call on Monday morning. A very professional individual answered the phone, took all of my information, and said someone would be getting back with me. Ten minutes late, Andy called me and asked for some details and asked if I could text him a picture of the faucet. Within 10 minutes after receiving the picture, Andy send me instructions on how to proceed with removing the faucet myself. What great customer service!! Instead of looking to make a quick buck, Andy took the time to gather some information and then proceeded to instruct me on how to complete the job myself. Andy's Pipe Dream will be the first company called whenever I need plumbing help in the future.

We had Andy's Pipe Dream out for an estimate on our old cast iron sewage line in the basement. Getting a time for them to come over and check it out was easy and no problem. They came out and arrived on time and as expected and gave us a fair estimate. We went ahead and scheduled the work to be done. In the time between the estimate and the work schedule date, our hot water heater release valve blew out. I gave Andy's Pipe Dream a call again and they were able to get out that same day and replace our hot water heater. (It was over 20 years old so needed to go.) I really appreciated their ability to get out and take care of the job that day. Later in the week, Chad came out and did the other plumbing work we wanted done. He arrived and took care of the old cast iron pipe with no problem. Both the hot water heater and the new sewage line look great, at least as great as plumbing work can look. After the work was completed, I noticed that one of the connecting drainage PVC pipes that connect to the new sewage line was slowly leaking. (It was from the washer so would only leak when doing laundry.) I gave them a call and they were great about giving me dates and times they could come over and take care of it. They came over and took care of it no problem. Overall, we were very please and would use them again.

We had been intending to replace our outside faucets for a long time. This summer one of them started leaking constantly. I didn't have any plumbing company that I wanted to use again so I looked in Angie's List and the name "Andy's Pipe Dream" caught my eye right away! I picked them mainly because of the good reviews - but also because of the name of the company. I called the company the morning of the 1st of Nov. and the lady said Andy would call me about my outside faucet problem. Within 30 minutes, Andy called and said someone would be out that afternoon. Chad arrived about 1:30 pm and explained the options we had to replace our faucets. He explained everything very well and then replaced both faucets. We were very happy with the work and also with the price. We will certainly use this company again for all our plumbing needs and will let others know about our experience. It is wonderful to have such good customer service.

On 14 August 2011 we noticed water leaking in our downstairs rec. room (basement) bathroom; a couple of years before we had a leak from our kitchen sink (directly above the downstairs bathroom), but there were visible signs on the kitchen floor (upstairs) when that leak had occurred. Although we were confident that this new downstairs leak was due to us using the upstairs kitchen sink, we were having a difficult time isolating how and where the leak was occurring. Being a finished basement bathroom this meant tearing into the wall and ceiling. I had cut into a small area of the wall (roughly below the upstairs sink drain, and between the toilet and sink), but the leak source was still inconclusive at that point. The following day I spoke with Andy at Andy's Pipe Dream, and within a few days he arranged for Chad to come to our home and have a look. Upon inspecting the bathroom and the leak, it was only possible to offer an average or typical scenario estimate, maybe around $200 or $250, although this was without actually being able to see the source of the leak (still obscured by the sheet-rock wall at that point). Because the water appeared to be coming from a particular direction, it seemed that this typical scenario would be the case, but unfortunately it could mean the tearing apart of our bathroom sink cabinet to get to it. After mulling this over for several weeks (due to needing to save money for this repair), and avoiding the use of our kitchen sink during that time, we reached a point where we finally asked Andy to proceed with having Chad come out to identify and repair the problem once and for all. For whatever reason (as we didn't observe this before), we ran water again to test and try to observe the leak source, and this time it was clearly evident that the original drain line (previously dry) had water dripping down it. The good news was that the bathroom sink and cabinet didn't have to be torn apart, but as Chad cut more into the wall it was also evident that the leak was occurring in between the basement and upstairs, adjacent to the kitchen floor above. Ultimately it was necessary for Chad to spend an extensive amount of time cutting walls and ceiling, old drain pipe sections, and preparing an elaborate maze of new PVC piping (to work around the inconveniently installed/placed existing water lines). Having removed a significant section of the old metal drain pipe it was suddenly clearly evident what the last plumber had done years ago to stop the kitchen sink leak, as there was a massive clump (entire jar?) of plumber's putty stuck to the side of the pipe; since the putty had dried out over the years, the leak managed to leave the pipe once again, and for whatever reason the drip direction went behind the wall instead of onto the kitchen floor (like last time). The lesson learned here was to pay close attention and understand what a plumbing expert is doing to resolve the problem, as it's now clear why the leak problem years ago was so inexpensive to resolve, as it wasn't really fixed. Chad's use of time and resources clearly resolved the problem, and we haven't had any leaks since. Having spoken extensively with both Andy and Chad over the previous six weeks, and having observed their workmanship and the way they run their business, I can genuinely say that I am very happy to have done business with them, and only wish that all small businesses were consistently honest, helpful and understanding as Andy's Pipe Dream.
Description of Work: It was necessary for them to cut into the basement bathroom wall and ceiling, as well as small portions of the upstairs kitchen cabinet floor and wall (not visible behind the closed cabinet doors), since it was evident that the leak was occurring in between the basement and upstairs, adjacent to the kitchen floor above. It was necessary to cut walls and ceiling, old drain pipe sections, and preparing an elaborate maze of new PVC piping (to work around the inconveniently installed/placed existing water lines).

They made an emergency call because there was gas smell in the house and it was the hot water heater and they placed a new one plus some lines. They were fantastic and I hate I didn't get to review them. I know that they put a rush on the heater itself and they didn't pass that cost on to me and they worked around my schedule because I had movers and other people coming and I had to leave. They were patient and worked thread of the needle and came when I was there. They have excellent and reasonable service.

Chad did an excellent job for us, he was professional and thorough. We needed several things done including a new hot water heater, extensive pipe work in the master bedroom bath, new toilet and the drain mechanism fixed in the bathtub. When it looked as if the bathtub drain mechanism was not fixable, Chad came up with creative ideas to replace it that would not break the bank. Other plumbers that we had look at it did not think outside the box and only quoted us on replacing it as is. In the end Chad was able to fix the old mechanism. Due to the unique configuration of our bathroom the toilet required a different type of seat to allow the door to shut. Andy was able to locate one of the same quality and delivered it himself that evening. I cannot give higher praise to the above and beyond service we received from Andy's Pipe Dream. We have found our plumber!

Everything went as planned and when our appliance installer couldn't complete the job, we called them and they called right back and came over, gave us an estimate for completing installation and got it done. Love my new cooktop.
Description of Work: We needed a gas line for a cooktop and they arrived promptly - looked at our current set-up. Then they gave us an estimate for the service needed. We felt it was in line with what we had anticipated and we asked them to go ahead. He completed his work in a timely basis - cleaned up after himself. The owner and the serviceman both called when he completed his task to say everything was done and what to expect going forward. We thought they were AWESOME!

AMAZING!! When he gave me the estimate, I could not believe it. Their pricing is very reasonable. He was exactly on time. He looked the situation over, then wrote up an estimate for me. My home is older, so he was honest about what could possibly go wrong. I had possibly ruined the seats during the time I was trying to fix it, so it would depend on what he saw when he got the stems off, and if the seats could be replaced. He was very patient with me, and went over all of the scenarios. He was so very professional, and very sweet. It was evident that his background knowledge and experience is extensive. He ended up finding a galvanized pipe which is not best practice. He replaced that for me within the same estimate. He was able to get the seats out and replaced, so no demolition of the wall was necessary. WOW! This is my plumber for life. I highly recommend them, and I am extremely picky. I now have 2 working showers. My whole family is happy!
Description of Work: I had a leaking tub drain, a leaky faucet, and non-functioning shower valve. The spigot was also the wrong length, leaving the pipe exposed about an inch. It was a big mess. I had tried to repair and replace the parts myself. After numerous trips to Home stores, and a year going by, I finally gave up!

I e-mailed Gary with a request for a ballpark estimate on replacing a stuck shut-off valve to a toilet, removing a frozen hot-water hose connection to the washing machine, and a deteriorating outdoor faucet. He called me within 30 minutes and gave me a ballpark estimate and said he could come by within an hour or so to look at everything and give a firmer estimate. He showed up as promised, confirmed the estimate he had given, and did the work on the two most pressing problems in an hour. He was very professional and took time to explain potential future problems with some piping in the basement. We agreed the outdoor faucet could make it another year or so, so I decided to wait to replace that. Everything went very well, and I would recommend Gary for plumbing work.
Description of Work: Gary replaced a stuck shut-off valve on one of the toilets and cut off and replaced a stuck hot-water hose to the washing machine. He also inspected an aging outdoor faucet and provided an estimate for replace it when needed, and provided an estimate for installing a back-up sump pump for future consideration.

Even though we had a foot of snow the day before, Andy was on time to do the install. The gas line was connected to the existing line that serves the water heaters. The work was done as scheduled; Andy returned the next day to hook up the cook-top after it was installed. The saddle shut off valves on the water line were replaced with real valves. Andy left the work area clean. Andy was very courteous and professional.
Description of Work: Installed gas line for new cook-top, Replaced water shutoff for humidifier and refrigerator. Connected gas line after cook-top was installed.
