Mission Kitchen & Bath Inc were very pleasant, helpful, and the scheduling was convenient. They responded exactly as they said they would and they gave us some pretty good ideas. It did not appear to be done on a computer basis to provide a lot of different view or options for manipulating the views but the plan arrived in a week or two as promised.
Description of Work: Mission Kitchen & Bath Inc provided a plan and some ideas.

Al and his staff were very nice to work with. Al did the initial home visit to see what was needed, and get the information to make up the bid in November, 2013. I waited to be sure I had enough money saved up before accepting the bid in late February, 2013. The designer, Sonya, came with samples and advised me as to cost effective, attractive materials. Mission Kitchen & Bath installer, Henry, did a walk-through on April 10th. On the following day he draped the area with plastic and tore out the old shower materials. Henry put tarps on all areas leading from the bathroom to the front doors whenever he was working so there was virtually no mess. Henry is extremely neat, professional and nice to have around. There was a slight delay in delivery of the onyx base that slowed the progress for a day. Henry finished the final shower details on April 17th, and he did a beautiful job. He also loaded up all materials and swept the garage floor! I added the glass shower door enclosure toward the end of the project which was subcontracted by Gaylord Glass. I am extremely happy with my renovated master bath shower, and would recommend Mission Kitchen & Bath without reservation!
Description of Work: Old shower walls, glass enclosure and base removed, updating of water line connections, new backer board installed, new onyx base installed, glazed porcelain tile installed, new shower faucet/controls, and grab bar installation. New shower doors subcontracted by Gaylord Glass. Debris removal.

Al worked with us to complete the bath within our budget, to the point of having a cabinet vendor refit a floor vanity to "float" on the wall at a reasonable cost. Our remodeler Ron was the most cheerful, pleasant and hard working person to have around, and he made sure to carry out our special requests, such as saving fixtures for our rental unit and the hardwood flooring removed for future use. He also fixed the latch to our bedroom door which had never worked in 10 years! Ron had to work around the crazy system of ducts and water pipes in the bath walls (a result of being on the ground floor of a 1950s "over/under" duplex). Also, the former hall floor was higher in the center than the edges, due to house movement in the past, and he calculated how to lay the 12" tile around the problem. It looks great. He carefully kept the work area sealed off and cleaned and was careful about keeping the cats in the house, as we requested, and came back to move the towel bars higher when we changed our mind. He even provided the perfect shim for a free standing shelving unit we added. We sure missed our shower in the two weeks it took for the remodel, but we love the new bath that's easy to navigate in, use and clean.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of narrow hallway bath to make it more handicapped accessible. Installed new grab bars and towel bars and faucet. Removed bathtub and installed Onyx shower walk in shower with movable hand held shower. Moved bath entry wall 4 feet into hall to allow for installation of 32" door. Removed tile on shower walls, rest of bath walls and floor. Installed new wallboard, inset medicine cabinet, smaller vanity and tiled floor.

About two days after purchasing the deal of the day we received a call from the owner of Mission Kitchen and Bath. He made an appointment for the next week. He was prompt on the day of the appointment. He was very truthful in what would need to be done for a complete bathroom remodel and there could have been some issues with replacing the floor tile and new bathtubs are smaller than the one we have so that could have been a slight issue as our tub sits in an arched area. We received a detailed bid in the mail in a couple of weeks after the appointment at our house. We decided to keep things as is for the time being. We do appreciate the time and expertise.
Description of Work: We bought the big deal which was a quote for a bathroom remodel. We received a bid however because of some issues on bathtub size and flooring, we decided not to go ahead with a remodel. This company was very honest on what the remodel would entail and they were very clear about difficulties that could be a problem. We appreciated the honesty.

Overall it was a very good experience. I pointed out some of the problems that I was having, and he gave me multiple ideas on what I can do, and we agreed on a couple of different approaches for remodeling both rooms, without breaking the bank. He was not pushy or too "salesman" like, but offered up some ideas that I didn't consider. The project still needs to be budgeted for, but at least I know what I'm looking at with regards to cost (more or less). I was happy with the time spent because now I have a clear direction of where to with this project and where to start.
Description of Work: This was a meet for an estimate of what I was wanting, and a Q&A for ideas. The estimate will be for the kitchen and the master bathroom.

Sonja was our first contact with Mission Kitchen and Bath - she was great throughout the whole project. Sonya worked with the Cabinet maker and drew plans, provided us with great ideas/counsel, and we started the process from there. Sonya was with us every step of the way - and always available to answer our questions. Henry was our installer - what a great guy, he has so many talents, gave us a progress report every night and held our hand through a couple of challenges - always willing to do what we wanted. I'm kind of a clean freak and he cleaned up every night - even when he didn't really need to. The workers who came and installed the granite told me that Henry was the best and they are EXACTLY right. Al, the owner, stopped by at least twice during the project - always nice to see the owner of the company during the project, showing he cares for his employees and his clients. I highly recommend Sonya, Henry and Mission Kitchen and Bath.
Description of Work: Mission Kitchen & Bath re-modeled our kitchen; we kept the same footprint, but replaced all cabinets, installed granite counter tops, sink, new appliances and tiled backsplash.

We had a great experience with Mission Kitchen and Bath. The stayed on budget and on time. It took three weeks to complete the project. There was a one-week delay for the installation of the shower glass, but that was the fault of the glass supplier. Henry did exactly what we wanted and completed all the work himself (except for the glass installation). He was professional and friendly. He showed up every morning cleaned up every night. He called if he was delayed. We only have one bathroom and Henry was very accommodating. He kept a toilet in place for all but a few days of the project. We have a stall shower in the basement, so we were able to stay in the house for much of the remodel, though we did house-sit for someone for so we were able to go there for a full bathroom as well. When we found out that the incorrect toilet had been ordered and installed, Mission Kitchen and Bath allowed us to purchase the correct toilet on their account at a supply store and they installed it the next day (we offered to go get it ourselves to speed up the process and make sure we got what we wanted). They took responsibility for the error and told us not to worry about it. The toilet was not returnable since it had already been installed. We were very grateful that they took this in stride and made sure we had what we wanted. The finished bathroom looks fabulous! We have a modern walk in shower with a new window that opens at the top with a crank. It looks great and allows for ventilation. The shower has a glass partition with open concept entry (no shower door). This saves space in the tiny bathroom and provides an open look. We have subway tiles on the walls, and penny rounds on the floor. Sonya, the designer, was very open to our unusual ideas about the open shower and the choice of penny rounds and was also encouraging about our preference for buying many of the materials and fixtures (towel bars, tp holder, medicine cabinet, etc) ourselves. She also made great suggestions and helped us make choices that would work in our tiny space. Al, the owner, stopped by personally before the project began and several times during the project to make sure everything was on track. I would highly recommend Mission Kitchen and Bath!

The original plumbing had been installed incorrectly back in 1980, so that there was poor drainage, leaks, and a slight sewer smell in this small upstairs bathroom. Al was joy to work with. Other bids were thousands higher and a few did not even want to tackle the job. Al helped me to select the tile for my shower and made recommendations for my new faucets and showerhead and door. The job took about 2 weeks, but the result was beautiful. Mission Kitchen and Bath did all of the work except for installation of my new shower door, which they arranged. I have used the bathroom for 4 months now and still love it.

We didn't want to spend a lot of money on the bathroom because it is a spare bathroom and won't get much use. The bid to only do the repair while keeping the existing tile was higher than other bids, so we didn't have this company do the job. However, I would definitely get a bid from this company if we decide to do a more complete bathroom remodel.
Description of Work: We asked for a bid to repair a water-damaged ceramic tile wall. The tile is over 40 years old and replacement tiles would have been impossible to find, so he recommended a replacement of all tile in the tub/shower area. He would try to repair the wall keeping the same tile, but we would be risking breakage of some tile in the process of removing the existing tile in order to repair the damaged wall. The 'project' kept growing because the same tile is on other walls in the bathroom. He ultimately gave us a bid hat was itemized so that we could pick and choose how much work we wanted to have done.

This is the second job MIssion Kitchen and Bath has done for me. The first was a complete kitchen remodel. I can only lament that I have no more kitchens and baths left! They are prompt and capable and communicate well. The site is always completely clean at the end of the day. The owner of the company visits regularly as does the designer--even when there is really no reason for them to do so. And I always have their complete attention even on a job this small. Sure wish these folks did more that kitchens and baths!

I actually got them from Angie’s List. The total cost of all of them was $50000 and it was not bad at all for total renovation. I liked their estimate and liked that they had a decorator to work with them. They were prompt. They had been in business for a while and they had good referrals. They were also top rated on Angie’s List.

Overall, the project went fairly well. I wanted to work with Al after interviewing several contractors on Angie's List. He is very likeable and professional, and seemed to be fair, easy to talk to. And he took great pride in his work. Henry did most of the work. Henry was amazing -- he worked hard, he was nice as could be, and he cleaned up. The project went smoothly, without a lot of glitches. We did had one minor issue with a cabinet hung the wrong way, but Al had it reinstalled after he came to look at it. I felt like Al and Sondra listened to what I wanted and tried to work with me to meet my needs and overall did a good job. My complaints are primarily with the quality of the subcontracted work -- the electrical, the granite, and the flooring. I mentioned each of these problems to Al, and all three of the subcontractors returned to do some remedial work, but the problems were never corrected properly and have been an ongoing source of frustration. The electrical boxes were not installed evenly. Some were higher than others; they were irregularly spaced, and they don't cover the holes in the tile. Al had some corrections made, but they're still uneven and do not cover the holes in the wall completely. The seams in the granite countertops granite were not done properly, crack, and do not match the granite properly. I had the subcontractor back at least twice to redo the seams, but they continued to crack and pop out but the fixes were very temporary. There are still significant cracks in the seams. And the wood floor has significant gaps. There are places in the hardwood floor where there are significant gaps between the boards. And the transom between the wood floor and the carpeted area was never properly done. There is just a board next to the carpet, without any transition, and the carpet immediately came up next the the edge of the hardwood floor, exposing the capet tacks. I did ask to have this fixed, with no resolution. The flooring subcontractor did come out to make some repairs where the floorind did not extend all the way to the quarter round. There are some other minor issues with the kitchen remodel -- one of the handles on the cabinetry was not installed evenly, and the grout around the tiles has come out. Also, the finish on the quarter round used in the kitchen has come off. Not sure why. This is the most significant home project I have invested in, and although I am please overall with the results, the issues with the flooring, electrical boxes, and particularly the countertops are a continuing source of frustration and detract from the overall experience. I trust Al and would (and have) recommended Mission Kitchen and Bath -- but I would be very vigilant about ensuring that any subcontracted work was done correctly.
Description of Work: Al and his crew did a complete kitchen remodel -- gutted the kitchen, installed new cabinets, counters & flooring.

We did remodel this kitchen in June 2007. Ms Clark was a very pleasant person to do business with. She was very patient and understanding with the unfortunate call backs we had on her project. And our client is right, it was close, but not exactly perfect. We certainly did have issues with the electrical contractor and did terminate our relationship. They are no longer in business. The variation in alignment of electrical receptacles and switch boxes would have been hidden by a larger tile selection. She had chosen mosaic glass tiles which are always beautiful but sometimes difficult to install around receptacles and switch boxes. Our granite fabricator is the largest in our area and has been back several times to adjust the seams. The countertop installation did meet industry standards. With kitchen granite installation 90% of the time seams are required. Some seams are more noticeable than others depending on the type of granite selection. The granite fabrication has vastly improved in the last few years, mainly due to computerized measuring and cutting equipment. Wood flooring will expand and contract due to humidity and temperature changes. This will sometimes create gaps. I remember we did have issues with some of the base shoe (quarter round). Part of the floor area was over a concrete slab which created issues in getting our fasteners to stay in place. Until now, I was of the impression that all issues were remedied. I will schedule a call back to repair what we can.

The project started on time and ended on time. I was very grateful that MKB also coordinated the kitchen demolition with Habitat ReStore where I donated my cabinets, countertops and some appliances and furniture. Bob, our carpenter (pretty sure he doesn't have a last name), was always prompt, always took a short lunch break, and always put in a full day. (He also played music I liked, but hardly loud enough for me to hear.) He has higher standards than I do and I had no qualms leaving him alone in the house for the day. The two subs (wood floor and electrical) were well supervised. At the end of each work day, the tarps were removed and the work area cleaned. I had input every step of the way. I am impressed with the whole team. I enjoyed talking to Al, both about my project and his business. There is very little he doesn't know about kitchens and baths. Sonya was a great help in the design department (took me all over town, in fact) and I was never sorry when I took her advice (I am way more into function than style.) I have since had to call for Bob to handle a few minor details and he has normally come the same day and handled the issues expeditiously. I love my kitchen and spend more time gazing at it than I do cooking in it. All the neighbors who have come by have loved it as well. Oh, and they will be adding a counter-height vanity to our master bath this spring.
Description of Work: We had a pretty straightforward remodel--no change in footprint but it was quite comprehensive: the floor was refinished and the vaulted ceiling redone to accommodate the removal of a light box and installation of recessed lighting, as well as removal of a ceiling fan and replacing it was with a chandelier in a different position. We replaced cabinets, countertop, backsplash and had the fireplace in the dining area refaced. We also added under cabinet lighting and under cabinet electrical receptacles. I chose Mission Kitchen and Bath (MKB) from the 5 contractors I interviewed for several reasons: they were able to bid the entire job, they were able to bid the job without bringing in a cast of other contractors, they offered design assistance, and they have their own employees. I have run a small business and have great respect for those who also employ others. It also means seamless interface and a clear line of responsibility. They were also willing to work with my budget. If my house were worth $750,000, I would be more likely to want to spend $75,000, which was the average project cost of most of the other contractors I spoke to.

After I emailed Sonya, I received an email from Al (the owner) that said "She is probably right... That is a tough house and she is most likely a pain. Al" I'm pretty sure that he did not mean to send that to me, but it was very unprofessional and beyond rude. Really quite unbelievable.
Description of Work: I had Sonya and Al come out to give a bid on a large kitchen remodeling project. My daughter reported that they had been rude to her when they bid a bathroom remodel for her house, but I felt that is was worth talking to them because of their high marks on Angies List. Wrong! They were not pleasant when they came out, but I thought maybe it was just their personalities. Today in response to an email from Sonya, I emailed back that we had decided to go with another company that had a lot more experience with older homes (our house was built in 1912 and is on the National Register). I thanked her for her bid.

Up front we certainly apologize for the email that was inadvertently sent to this client. We take full responsibility and deeply regret that it occurred. In response to comments of rudeness on our part we respectfully disagree. We hope that anyone who reads this report would ask, "why would a contractor be rude to a potential client on their initial contact?". In these economic times all contractors are struggling to just stay in business. We have been very successful at achieving this. We have excellent rapport with our clients. Although there are times when conflicts do happen, we are very diligent in resolving the issues . We have received numerous service awards from Angie's List and positive reports from clients as well as testimonials from non-Angie's List members we are able to share. On our initial appointment as with all initial appointments we try and get as much information from the client as possible so that our proposal on their project is as close to projected cost as possible. This client seemed reluctant to discuss budget and made a point of asking us how much longer we were going to be there. In our initial visit we have to ask a number of questions regarding material and design expectations as well as taking measurements so that we are able to provide drawings to vendors. We then send these drawings to cabinet and counter top suppliers for estimates. We then make a second appointment with the client to present our proposal based on the information gathered. The initial visit, time spent putting the proposal together as well as vendors time spent on estimating materials and the return visit to present our proposal is estimated at approximately 6 hours. This is at absolutely at no cost to a potential client. With this said - we would ask that anyone that reads the report: "why would any contractor be rude and then spend 6 hours putting together a proposal and make a second appointment". Our professional relationship is strong and we can certainly provide many many referrals of clients that have had a very positive experience with us and with that have given us many many referrals.

Al and Sonya from Mission Kitchen & Bath both came to give advice and provide an estimate for my bathroom re-model. Overall the company appeared very professional and I received a prompt and very detailed estimate together with a list of previous clients I could contact if so desired. I am sure this company would have provided a quality service. I decided to go with another A-rated bathroom remodeler I found on Angie's List primarily because his estimate was more competitive.

Recently we had our 1960's era kitchen completely remodeled. We chose Mission Kitchen & Bath based on 1) their superior reviews on Angie's List; 2) the experience our daughter and son-in-law had with them when they had their master bath re-tiled and improved; and, 3) on the recommendation of two couples we know who had their kitchens and baths remodeled by M K & B. We were so impressed with the quality of their work, we decided to hire them to remodel our kitchen. At every stage of this project, they were a pleasure to work with. For the initial consultation, both the owner, Al Felman, and his project manager, Sonya Lange, came to our home. They spent time with us and asked pertinent questions in order to determine exactly what we wanted. They bounced ideas off of us and took detailed notes based on our answers. At this initial consult, they also took measurements of our existing kitchen and cabinets. Within a week, they came back to us with a thorough and professional proposal. Based upon this proposal, we decided to completely replace all of our existing cabinets as opposed to just replacing our existing cabinet doors. Subsequently, Sonya brought the representative from the cabinet company to our home to do final detailed and precise measurements of our kitchen and to discuss cabinet options. M K & B submitted a finalized bid based upon the various options we chose. The detailed and professionalism of their bid proposal impressed us. It spelled out every option, what our cost allowances were for each item, and had all expenses laid out in detail. Moreover, their payment terms were clearly spelled out. No stone was left unturned. We settled on a date to begin of May 9; this date was later moved forward a week and the project began on Monday, May 16, 2011. Once the project was started, we were impressed by the communications and follow-up as the project proceeded. Both Al and Sonya dropped by regularly to check on the progress and to see if we had any concerns or questions. They also phoned us regularly for the same reason. Sonya, with her keen eye for design, helped us select appropriate granite and natural stone tiles for our counter tops and back splash. The actual work was done by one of their remodelers, Bob, who was absolutely top-notch in every respect. He showed up promptly each morning by 8 am and worked non-stop, taking only a 20-30 minute break for lunch. At the end of each day's work, he put away all his power tools and equipment and thoroughly swept and vacuumed before leaving. Care was taken to seal off the kitchen and the construction from the rest of the house. We love our new kitchen and appreciate the superb quality of Bob's work. Our finished kitchen is a monument to his craftsmanship. The project ended on June 16, 2011 -- just a month from start to finish. There was very little disruption to our household. We are very pleased to give Mission Kitchen & Bath a 5-star rating!
Description of Work: M K & B removed existing kitchen cabinets and all appliances. After completely preparing the wall surfaces, their installer/remodeler added additional electrical outlets, new cook top, granite counter tops, new sink, faucets, new electrical outlets, natural stone tile back splash, and the new cabinets. All walls and wood work were repainted as needed. In addition, he re-installed all of our appliances.

They were great. I got 3 estimates one company did not send any estimate. A second company gave a phone estimate with no details. Mission Kitchen & Bath was very thorough in the estimate. They spent an hour on the estimate when other companies had spent about 15 minutes maximum. They gave me a thorough estimate. Their designer Sonya gave good suggestions. They were very helpful.
Description of Work: Mission Kitchen & Bath remodeled two bathrooms completely. They put in a walk in shower in the master bath. They installed whirlpool tub in both bathrooms. We love them both. They also fitted tiles with giant counter tops.

I was doing some research and picked them, and two other people to come and give me a quote. These people came over and gave me a quote real quick. The other two guys, one I left them a message but they never called me back and one guy came over did the thing and never sent me a quote. The guy that works for him came out and did the work; he was very prompt, did the job and cleaned up well. The clean up was fantastic. If I had something I wanted done he did it and he also redid a couple of things. He said he's going to come back probably in a couple of weeks and do some touch up things. The workers were really professional and did a really good job cleaning up. It worked very well. In fact he's going to do some more work for me in my kitchen.
