Terrible. From start to finish, communication between us and Master Landscape was troubled at best. From our initial meeting, it seemed we were on the same page about what we wanted done and how it would be handled. Al, the company President, seemed to understand and point out where the issues were around the house and how they needed to be fixed. He said he had been doing grading jobs for quite some time, so we thought we were in the great shape to get our issue fixed. On the first attempt at completing the job, no swale was dug and it appeared from looking at our yard that in the area of our yard that was supposed be flatted out and a swale dug out that the sod had just been scraped off the surface and that layer had been used to add dirt around the foundation. It rained that day and water still pooled under the deck and around the house because nothing had actually been done to grade the ground. We contacted Master Landscape about our concerns and they did respond promptly by coming over to the house to view the water pooling. The explanation we received about the work done was fraught with excuses that danced around the issue that the job was simply not done to the standard agreed upon. We told them they needed to come back and try again.
After the second time, the swale was still not dug out and the explanation given was that there were root structures left over from bushes that were planted where the swale would be so it was too difficult to dig. We saw and still have not seen evidence of this ourselves, but if that was the case, this should have been communicated to us while the workers were on site, instead of us having to ask about it after the fact. We communicated our issues with the job to Master Landscape and told them that we did not want them to come and try to fix it again. We just wanted to be done with them so we could hire someone who knew what needed to be done. We were extremely frustrated with the lack of communication between what we wanted and the guys on site doing the work. It was clear that there was a major disconnect. After all was said and done, we still have drainage problems, we wound up with a broken fence we had to replace due to the Bobcat scoop breaking the fence gate, and we were sent a bill for the full amount quoted initially, without taking into account the fact that the job was very much incomplete. We paid Master Landscape for the work they completed and deducted from their bill the fence repairs and an estimate to finish the job.
Although Master Landscape may be excellent at creating nice landscapes with grass and plants, excavating/grading is not their forte and I would discourage anyone seeking to enlist these services from utilizing this company for this purpose. We sought the opinion of a foundation specialist from Kansas Basement and Foundation after a major rain sent water coming over the edge of the foundation in the basement (on the side Master Landscape added dirt too high up on the siding) and through some fissures in the concrete and his opinion was a drainage issue, which lends credence to the fact that nothing was fixed by Master Landscape. During this meeting, he too recommended a swale. We have enlisted the help of an excavating/grading specialist to tune of another $2,000. Although Master Landscape could not meet our expectations with the job performed, our main issue with them was the communication with us about the job and the way our dissatisfaction was handled when it came time to settle up. Had our concerns been taken into account and honest effort made to assuage our issues with what contracted versus what was delivered, this review might have had a few more positives notes. Unfortunately for all involved, this was not the case.

These people are remarkable. Shad Hufnagel who designed our yard is outstanding. We wanted a "zero scaped" yard and we got it. We have worked with Shad for several years to create a front yard that is beautiful and easy care. Everyone comments on its beauty. Shad is extremely knowledgeable and gracious. They have replaced plants that didn't thrive the first season at no cost. They are reasonable and thorough. They are also creative. Shad thinks outside the box to meet a customer's wishes.
We love our yard. I give them my highest recommendation.I would never use anyone else in town.

Very pleasant folks. Responsive. Listen to the customers wants. The overall look of the finished product was good. The problem was with the execution of the hardscape. Those employed were not skilled or knowledgeable enough to handle the job. The result was structural issues with the brick laying. When we voiced concerns they seemed more interested in "damage control" , came out and corrected a couple problems but the structural issues continue. It really should have been redone. Wobbly stones because of measuring incorrectly. The result is it looks fragile and ready to come out. Looks like a novice home job. The price vs the end product is unacceptable. We would have been happy overall if they had skilled execution or immediately redid the hardscape. They have beautiful stuff done at their office though. That is why we chose them because we were impressed by it.

MasterLandscape has and will continue to do an excellent job of Landscaping the areas around the house. We have exclusively used their services since the construction of the house in 12/24/2004.

They have planted trees, flowers, shrubs and built 3 walls. We have no complaints and selected their services over local landscape companies because they were punctual, very responsive and professional.

This is a landscape company that we have been using for years and years to install irrigation, design and plantings for at least three houses we have owned. We have only recently begun to use them for weekly lawncare. We have used them for over five years for general lawncare such as fertilizing, grub control, weed control etc. They provide both conventional and organic based services.

The mowers are always prompt, polite and take instruction well. They didn't know to mow into the ivy around a tree, but after being instructed to do so, have done it consistently since. There are no traces of clippings or other debris when they are finished.
