Overall, the experience was excellent. I highly recommend that you talk with the owner/operator of the company you are hiring. Make sure that they are properly documented and have the necessary insurance and liability documents. Check with the city code enforcement to determine whether a permit is required and negotiate with the contractor as to whose responsibility it is to obtain the permit. Get more than one estimate. I recommend 3 although sometimes it is hard to find a third company to provide the estimate. Depending on the job and the amount of money involved, do not pay anything until the job is complete and you have had a chance to inspect the job. Do treat the contractor with the respect and dignity that you expect from them.
Description of Work: The company was called to provide an estimate on pressure washing, staining and sealing my large outdoor deck. We set a specific date and time to go over the estimate and details of the job. I had already obtained one estimate on the job from another company so I knew what price range I was looking at. The estimate came in lower than expected and DT Pressure Washing was hired to do the job. We selected a start date and time. On the first day, the deck was power washed and allowed to dry for the next several days. Just the power wash made my deck look much better. When the deck had been given an opportunity to dry, the date to start staining arrived and so did the "painter." I was surprised that there was only one person and was concerned that this would be a long process. But he got right to work and after the first half of the day was over, I knew that he would be finished within the two day timeframe that we had discussed. I was treated with respect and given all consideration. I offered him water or soft drinks throughout the day but he respectfully declines all offers. He never needed inside, even to go to the bathroom. About 6:00p.m. he was still working and I had prepared a meal for the family and asked if he would like to stay. I gave him a quick rundown of what we were having and he thought for a second and then said yes, he would enjoy a home cooked meal. I never, in no way, felt threatened by this man and was grateful that he agreed to join our family for supper. It was the first time that I felt comfortable enough to invite a "stranger" into the home to eat with our family. His name is Marcus and we had a good meal with great company. Don't get me wrong...as a general rule, I do not invite contractors into my home unless they are needing in to perform jobs. Marcus returned the next day to finish the job and let me know that he was finsihed and was leaving.
