We took my retirement money and we invested it to my home. There's a water damage, the roof leaks. The room addition is ruining the rest of my home, window is cracked. Now we have to go and have everything repaired. He was rude with my husband and I. We hired attorneys. They did not have permits. They city got involved. We filed on his insurance and everything and they only allowed $1500 for all the damages.

The exterior of our house looks beautiful now that Exterior Construction is done with it! They replaced our siding and trim on three sides plus installed new oversized gutters all around. There was also one exterior door that had to be replaced because the trim and frame were so decayed. They painted the new siding and trim plus the portions of the front that had siding and trim to match. We chose to go with them because they are a local company with many years of experience and seemed to be very knowledgable in their field. There were some delays getting the project started, but that was partially due to a need for delays on our end, as well as fitting us into their schedule and coordinating with wacky Kansas weather. (I figure anyone who is good enough to be in demand will have to schedule you out some distance in the future!) Ted kept in touch with us for scheduling the start date, as well as responding to my many questions about what exactly would be done and how that would be translated into a contract. He took the time to give us multiple options and to advise on what he thought would be best. Once the project started, Ted's son Jake (extra points for it being a family business!) was great at making sure I was informed about what was happening and that everything was going smoothly. All the guys on the crew were polite and helpful. The painters even weighed in on trim colors when I was obsessing over choices. I was nervous spending this much money on any one project, even after researching and trying to chose a reputable product and company, so I thought it important to let others know -- you can trust these guys! I feel like the pricing was fair, not so low as to be suspicious, but lower than another bid we received. It may have even been more work than they expected once they got started, because of our steep grade in the back and some pretty high areas of trim and gutters, but they stuck to the contracted price, except for a couple of agreed upon additions we made during the project.

It took about a month and a half I believe. That was a problem, how clean the area was left. They left trash out there.

Actually, this is an update to an earlier review. Unfortunately, I cannot delete the old one. Ted's group did a great job on the siding and it is holding up just fine nearly a year later. They put some covers over the windows to avoid any leakage and they did a professional job. Sorry for the misunderstanding earlier. I would recommend his group in the future. Thanks.

We needed estimates to determine how to proceed with some hail dents that had punctured the front of our house. They were prompt and professional in providing estimate.

I had called and scheduled to have Mr. McCormick come to my home to have an estimate done to replace some defective siding on my home. After making the appointment for today, I was called by Mr. McCormick himself to discuss the project which I thought was initially impressive. Unfortunately, that was the bright spot. Today (the date of the appointment) after being 15 minutes late for the appointment, I called his office to make sure he was still planning to come this morning. The receptionist was nice, but she had no information regarding the appointment, so I left a message requesting to be called. After waiting another 15 minutes, I called Mr. McCormick's cell phone and left another message. After another 15 minutes, I called the office again and got someone else who also had no information about the whereabouts of Mr. McCormick, so I left another message. At one hour, I was getting tired of waiting, so I called Mr. McCormick's cell phone again and the office again all to no avail. I was looking forward to working with this organization, but unfortunately, they were not interested in working with me.

The first 750% of the job moved well and we were very pleased. As we moved into the finish part of the job and punch list items the wheels fell off and things were all downhill from there. Once the deck (very large) was complete part of the contract was for it to be stained. The sub hired by the contractor to do this apparently attempted to spray the stain on causing multiple issues. First more of it ended up on my house and windows then the deck as this is Kansas and it was a windy day, second they didn?t go back over and roll or brush it in and was splotchy and looked painted vs. stained, and lastly there were over 150 metal balusters already installed by the contractor that had stain all over them. They painted portions of the house (doesn?t blend in well), attempted to clean windows (still find stain on them to this day), and tried to clean the metal balusters but did a very poor job. They also tried to sand the deck and re-stain but after a year it looks horrible and had to be re-stained again. When the condition of the balusters was noted to the contractor he acknowledged they looked bad but I could never get him to come back. Along with the balusters, there were countless other items we went through with the contractor?s son (good kid) as punch list items. We went through these with him twice. Each time somebody would come out and do a portion of what was on the list and I would get an email from the contractor wanting final payment. If I called, I would get an email back. Contractor wanted to send his son out again to go over items to finish up and I said no, I wanted him to come out personally. Nothing happened. A few weeks later I get an email saying we really need to clean up this outstanding amount. I short paid his request and indicated the remainder would be paid when I was satisfied. That was the last I ever heard from the contractor. The final balance he wanted was $3,400 but said he would accept $2,900. I paid him $1,700 and that was frankly too much. At that point (only a few months) the re-stain on the deck still looked Ok, but not great, but hadn?t had enough time to weather properly to see how poorly it was holding up. Additionally, the balusters could not be cleaned without totally removing, cleaning, and reinstalling. Takes about 4-5 minutes to clean each one properly to remove the stain without damaging the finish of the face mount balusters. When reinstalling I had to purchase all new screws (which cost ~$150 from the vendor) due to stain in in the head, etc?. and inability to clean. I will easily have $3-$4k of my time and contractor cost to remediate the deck adequately. It?s a shame the project ended this way. I can remember standing on my deck Memorial weekend and reveling about how nice things looked to that point and looking forward to finalizing things. In the end, the job is as only as good as the finish so my satisfaction was very premature. As we concluded this disaster I told the contractor (through email since thats the only way he was communicating at that point) I had gone from being optimistic, too hopeful, to indifferent, to now just plain irritated to be dealing with his request for full payment. That was the last contact I had with him.

We had received Ted's name from a friend as they had used him. We had a leaky roof and my husband is disabled and could not get up on the roof to check it out. Ted came out and repaired a leak around the gas pipe. Several months later, the roof developed another leak and my husband called Ted and he set a time up to come out. Ted never showed up. Numerous calls and another missed appointment on his part and finally he stopped returning our calls. Not dependable! I would not recommend him.

It took a few days before he could come out for an estimate. I missed the original appointment time, but he was able to come back later that day (a positive). He told me he would email a quote in the next two days. A week later, I called to remind him I was still waiting on an estimate. The receptionist said she would give him a message. I never heard back by either email or phone.

For the most part, they did an okay job with painting our house. There were, however, places that you could see overspray and also they broke one of our flood lights without replacing it.

They were very helpful with noticing additional maintenance projects as they were working. Were very easy to work with.

Since the work was performed in the winter there was a certain amount of starting and stopping but when weather permitted the work continued. The job was started in a timely manner and finished with dispatch.

Our house was built in 1984 and we still had the original masonite siding and wood windows on the house. Needless to say the masonite was deteriorated and most of the seals in the windows were broke. I had four local companies bid the replacement of windows and siding. Two of the companies pushed vinyl siding, one predominately hung smart board, and exterior construction who we ultimately went with predominately installs James Hardi fibercement siding. When we first started thinking about siding we really didn't want vinyl siding, but figured that would be the only product that would fit our budget, so we started out getting bids on vinyl siding. We found Exterior Construction's name through Angie's List and called them for a quote. We were surprised that their quote for installing and painting James Hardi fibercement siding was within $500 of the quotes we had received for vinyl siding. (This also included new fascia trim and a new walk out door for the garage.) Exterior sells and installs Plygem windows and doors. Honestly my wife and I had never heard of any of the window brands that any of these contractors sold. We were only familiar with the name brands you hear on the TV and through local lumberyards. Ted McCormick owner of Exterior came down on the price of the windows when I pointed out that other bids I had received were much lower than his, and that the brand didn't matter to us since everyone's brand offered a lifetime limited warranty. The Plygem windows and patio door we ordered came in a woodgrain that was a great match to the existing oak trim we already had throughout the house. The Exterior Construction crew that hung the fibercement siding was great! Gene and the rest of the crew were very nice to talk to and would answer any questions or concerns we had. The crew that installed the windows and patio door were also great and took the time to get new trim pieces stained to exactly match the new windows and existing trim. The paint crew did a wonderful job and we were very pleased with the trim and body colors we picked out. We were very pleased with the final outcome, and were so glad we went with the fibercement siding. Our siding is virtually seamless when you look at it, due to the fact that hardi is hung butted together with no splice piece between ends as we had with the masonite, or would of had if we went with the smart board. The new Plygem windows are nice, and we especially like the casement window. The only thing I wish we had done was put in a really good patio door. I give the Plygem sliding patio door an "A" for looks and a "C" for function. You have to remember we went from a wood door to a vinyl door, and I had replaced rollers on the wood door several years ago, so it opened and closed like a dream, but would become a problem to close when temperatures dropped to single digits. The new Plygem vinyl door gets hard to slide when the outdoor temp is cold, and it now has developed a "rattle" when we close it. This will probably be something I have Exterior come back out to look at in the near future. Other than that the work and material were great.

The crews were courteous and on time. Siding crew was particularly talented with work along roof lines, window box redesign, octogonal window frames, etc....... 1/2 of the painting crew (the lead painter) was good. The other painter made some errors that were poor, including painting over factory painted siding and painting over dirty siding. Caulking had to be painted over because the caulking that was installed didn't match the factory paint on the siding. The manager fixed the paint problems and was straight forward with any issues found. Overall - good to work with. I liked working with folks who were professional, courteous and truthful.

We had purchased a home and had been a bit neglected on the exterior by the previous owners. We got three bids to access the situation and recommend a course of action. Exterior Construction by far had the most detailed propsal on what they would do and what materials they would use. They did a very good job of explaining the proposal and the details of what materials they were using and why. They did an excellend job fixing/replacing the siding and then caulking and painting the exterior. Overall very satisfied with the work.

I was satisfied with the entire job. Mr.McCornick was very responsive to all my questions and visited the job site several times during the project. This was a big job and it went very smoothly!

Overall experience was excellent. They were very patient and responsive to all the questions we had. Nice to know there are still companies like this.

The company failed to locate utilities. Failed to mark boundries. Failed to layout the project with the contract labor. Failed to supervise and be on site to answer labor questions. Left decdision making and material orders up to labor. His own brother said the job was poorly done and ill supervised / managerd.

Excellent job well done. Highly recommend Exterior Construction.

The overall job was great from start to finish. No complaints. We have used this company before and would use them again.

They responded and offered a great deal but I wasn't able to use them because my financial situation changed. I would have signed a contract with Exterior Construction if not for my situation; they were very pleasant.

Representative did not show up at the specified time for estimate meeting. He did show up after i called to remind him of our scheduled meeting. He was friendly and informative and gave me a fair estimate for repairs. I signed a contract for work that day with an agreed start date a week from the time of the estimate. That date came and went without a call from exterior const. I called and found out they were running behind on a job and that I would be notified the following week about a new start date. That week came and went with no word from exterior, so i called again to hear the same excuse as the last. I was assured that work would be started the following week and made a point to repeat the time and date of the start of repairs to my deck. Nobody showed up at the agreed time and date and no answer to my phone call. After giving this company several chances to keep their word, I am currently searching for another company to repair my deck.Exterior construction was unprofessional/unreliable and I would not recommend their services.

Exterior Constrution did the siding, painting and concrete work and that all went great and was done very well and fast. There were problems with some of the interior work such as the ceilings had to be done twice and the refurbishing of the hardwood floors was done wrong and another company had to come in and redo them. Ted from Exterior served as the General Contractor and was great on getting these mistakes corrected. The work did take longer that expected and we were living in the house as work was done which disrupted Thanksgiving and Christmas. However Ted's crews were great to work with and felt like we knew most of them by the time job was completed as we started on November 1 and finished in February. We are pleased with the final work but glade to have the remodel done.

Overall, we could not be more pleased with the quality of the work completed! We are amazed when we walk outside & look at the transformation of our house by Exterior Construction! Start to finish story: Submitted for a quote on Exterior Construction website. Ted contacted me quickly (the next day, if I remember correctly). Scheduled an appointment, & he came out to my house, & explained the options I had to address the problems with my house. He was very professional & extremely knowledgeable. He's not a "salesman" which is one of the things I loved about him. I had a couple of other companies come give me quotes as well, & got their salesmen, which I found irritating. We agreed on the before-mentioned work scope, which fixed my house issues at a great price (significantly cheaper than the other quotes I got). There was a small delay in receiving the quote due to a telephone # mix up & another non-controllable issue. Also a small delay from when we were first told work was going to start to when it actually did (hence the "B" ratings we gave), but the weather can do that to an exterior house project. I would say it was approx. 4 weeks from the time I signed the contract to the first day of work. The work crew was professional & made sure they addressed all the items we wanted fixed. Ted came periodically to check what had been done, & made sure it was up to his standards. He had the crew fix a few items we didn't even notice, which I appreciated. That communicated to me he had a high standard he personally required from his crew, regardless of what a customer who may or may not be knowledgeable in construction noticed. The painters came after all the siding/repair work was complete (in-house painters). They did an excellent job! Everything was caulked & painted. Guttering work was performed after painters were finished. After guttering work was complete, the crew came back one morning to finish up a few details: a spot of paint here and there, a little more caulk needed in one spot, etc. What I would call "finishing" items. Total project time was approx. 4 weeks. A lot of that was painting work, as my 2 story house has a lot of trim & individual faces to paint.

They didn’t get back to me right away. I contacted them again, I sent an email and I told them that I found them on Angie’s List and they did get back to me and they came out. They were very professional, decent and responsive. They said it was a clerical error. Though they did not do any work, they gave me a written bid. I am pleased about that. The quote was for $2,000. I did not hire him to do the work. We found some other things that needed to be attended to so my husband ended up going with somebody else. I will definitely consider using them in the future.
