I clipped some wiring to an outlet when installing a new microwave. It was really good service. He got here quickly and was kind enough to help me select the lights that would work in my kitchen. He went to Lowe's with me. He installed them just the way I wanted them and cleaned up after the job and even took the old ones to the trash for me. He went above and beyond and I really appreciate that. I contacted the company two days before Thanksgiving. Mr. Tann handle getting the job set up and completed the next day. I had trouble with my home buyers insurance (First American), we don't recommend using them. The owner sent them an email and in great detail explained why this should be covered. He also spoke to the insurance company to no avail. My insurance ended up paying nothing. The middle of March I received a check from Tann Electric to help me recover some of my loses. If you need a professional, considerate and reliable electrical job done, HIRE TANN ELECTRICAL!!! Charles Peabody Independence MO.

The electrician that came out was great. He explained the difference between the options he could use to add the outlet. The problem I have with Tann is that I was told when I called was that the first half hour was $108 and then it would be $54 per hour after that plus parts. When I received the bill, I was charged the $108 just for ringing the doorbell and the $54 for each half hour he was there.

The job went well. The electrician was professional and did a great job explaining what he was going to do. The only issues I had which could use some work is the electrician was not on site at the time we were told they would be and no one let us know, we had to call ourselves. The second thing is cleanup was poor. I had to put insulation back in place that the electrician left out of place as well as I had to vacuum up a lot of dust and wood particles from the job being done. I just noticed the mess today since I had not been in the basement since the work was completed several days ago.

I am not sure if the electrician noted this to you, but part of the challenge was locating a sub-panel feeding the garage, and then he found there was 240 volts going to the garage, but was not being utilized, which was unexpected. If it would be of help, in the future, I can have the electrician give an estimate before starting a job and then inform you as he is working if the price may be more of less. Because it was a Sunday the hourly rate was $216.00 but since I thought it would only take a few hours to do it and I had Tann Electric do a few jobs in the past I thought it would be OK. Contractor showed up on time but did not have the correct parts on his truck even thou he should have been told by his company why we needed him to come out. So he left to get parts and was gone about a hour and a half and this was around lunch time so I think he went to lunch while he was gone. He then finally started to work and every time I looked out to see how it was going I found him using his phone and not working. He said he would not charge me for an hour of time because he was using the phone so much. The final result was he charged me for 3 hours of labor although I think the job should not have taken more then two hours. He also charged me $520.85 for parts. End result is that I will not be using Tann Electric any more.
Description of Work: Wind storm ripped off my electric meter from my house. I had to hire a electric contractor to put up a new meter can and conduit before the utility would come out to connect electricity and install a new meter.

Mr. [Member Name Removed], I am sorry you feel as though you did not receive the excellent service Tann Electric is known for providing consistently to its customers. Hopefully you received our letter to you, but if not, I have included the contents here. My hope is to resolve our differences and offer an explanation for what occurred last month. Your 1st point is that we charge $216 per hour. That is correct. Our rates are double time on evening and weekend after hour's calls. It is our policy to inform our customers of this before we start our time on the call. Your 2nd point is that you expected the call to take a few hours and that we had done a few jobs for us before. Yes, you had 2 previous jobs with us and the call on Sunday the 23rd was the 3rd. Your expectation of the amount of time to complete the work, which included travel time to and from your home, was 3 hours. However, you gave us an "F" on Price. We explained our charges prior to your engaging us to do work, and the work completed was within your expectation, so reporting an "F" on price seems contradictory to your stated expectation. Your 4th point is that we showed up on time. However you gave us a "B" and "C" on "Responsiveness" and "Punctuality" respectively. Our record shows your call came to our answering service on Sunday morning at approximately 9:34 and we returned you call at 9:37. Our electrician was in route to your home by 10:01. Your 5th point was a concern for not having the correct parts on his truck. We have a standard specified inventory we carry on our truck that covers the majority of work we are asked to do. This inventory does not include some of the materials required to rebuild an electrical service that has been pulled down by a storm. Our standard procedure is to go to the job site and assess the labor and material needs and then to acquire the correct material and return to the job site. This standard procedure was followed in your situation. Fortunately, your home was not very far from our shop so our electrician was able to quickly travel to the shop and pick up the needed materials and return to your home and complete the repairs. Your 6th point was that you think our electrician took lunch while he was gone, with the implication he billed you for his time he took lunch. Our standard policy is to report a lunch break as an unpaid break and not charge the customer for it. Any break is documented on the time card and there is no break noted on his time card. Your 7th point was that he was on the phone when you would see him working. Our electrician was our on-call service man that day which was the morning after a very damaging storm. We had many calls and actually had to call into service 2 other electricians to help the people in need. Our electrician was the point-man to receive the calls from the answering service and therefore was receiving all the calls and re-directing them. Our electrician acknowledged that he was on the phone and he generously gave you an hour off your time charged for the time he spent redirecting the emergency work. The last point I have not addressed was that of the "Quality". You gave us a "C". Understanding this is formally and typically understood as "average", I would hope the installation met your satisfaction -straight, level, plumb etc. In conclusion, you stated you felt the job should have taken only 2 hours rather than 3 (your original expectation was a few hours). We charge only the time we spend working on your job when working on a time and material basis. For after-hours emergency work we include the time to travel to and from your job. Based upon the time charged (3 hours) and the fact our electrician had to travel to and from your home and to and from your home to our shop - that would only leave an hour and a half to 2 hours to complete the actual re-construction of your service. When discussing this type of repair with our customers, I will give them an expectation of not less than 4 hours to do the actual work - no travel included. Mr. [Member Name Removed], through the years we have worked hard and consistently to build a reputation of "Service and Integrity". Helping people like yourself in a time of crisis is no exception. We do what we will say we will do and provide to you the finest craftsmanship and material within the time as the need dictates. Again, you were not an exception to this - we met your need in and efficient and timely manner. My hope is that we can work out our differences and eventually work together again. Greg from Tann Electric showed up at the house 10 minutes ahead of schedule and got right to work. He diagnosed the problem quickly and then set about fixing it. Greg went above and beyond the simple fix to make sure that this issue wouldn't crop up again anytime soon. Would hire Tann again for everything from simple to complex electrical issues.

They had to take time to take the refrigerator out so he could fix the switch. The price wasn't too bad. They did a good job. I believe they actually know what they're doing. They are specialists. They don't have to come back to fix anything.
