Service was great, employee professional, I felt safe, identification provided before entering my home. Job was not rushed. Time allowed reviewing future projects Absolutely no complaints with MVP Electrical Co. Unfortunately, the $125.00 paid up front to Angies List was not deducted from the cost of service. Again, no fault of the serviceman, the fault lays with the Company for not providing this information to the serviceman, should have been on the order form. I was asked.........do you have a credit? My answer was no, I'm writing a check. Long day, first time with Angie.

On 10/04/15 I purchased this Big Deal from Angie's List. The company scheduled the service for 10/20/15. The technician arrived right on time. He was friendly, clean and professional. After about 20 minutes of working on the furnace, he came upstairs and said he could not continue with the inspection, cleaning and tune up because the heat exchanger was cracked. I asked him to show me the cracks and he did. To me, they appeared like tiny, thin lines on the outside of three of the plates. They did not appear to be cracks of any significance. He explained that a cracked heat exchanger could pose a hazard for carbon monoxide poisoning because as the metal heats up it would expand and the cracks would allow carbon monoxide into our air system. He then said he was obligated to red tag the furnace and to shut it down. He did not perform any additional testing. He never turned on the furnace to test its carbon monoxide output. The furnace was shut down based SOLELY on a VISUAL inspection. No objective evidence was provided. After this, I asked him if I would receive a partial reimbursement because the complete services I paid for were not completed. He replied,"No," as his employer did have to pay to have him come out to my home. He said I could apply the $49 to a new heating and cooling system. He then took out a three ring binder containing slick laminated pages of the three models of systems MVP offers. The systems cost between $5000 to $14,000. When I commented on the price, he began to speak about financing. I thanked him, we exchanged a few more pleasantries and he left. The next day, I contacted MVP and requested a partial reimbursement. I was told I would not be reimbursed at all, but that I could apply the $49 towards a new system. This began to have the feel of a scam. Because MVP did not provide any objective evidence that my furnace was unsafe to operate, I contacted a second company to get a second opinion. I let the company know I wanted my furnace tested using a calibrated carbon monoxide detector. The second company came out. The technician started the furnace and measured the carbon monoxide output at the flue and then at the plenum. The reading at the flue (closer to the flames) was about 32 ppm. The readings at the plenum (higher up) fluctuated between 0 ppm to 1 ppm. He stated the CO levels were negligible. He then used a heat exchanger inspection device called "the Inspector." This is a flexible camera. He inserted the camera into each of the heat exchanger's compartments and showed me the video feed, explaining to me what we were looking at. He said there were no cracks in the heat exchanger. He then cleaned my furnace, tuned it up and then installed a carbon monoxide detector in the bedroom for more peace of mind. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in order to get my money back. The company responded that I would not be getting my money back from them. If I wanted to get my money back, I was to work it out with Angie's List. What I find disturbing is that this company can use the claim of cracked heat exchangers to sell furnaces when they may actually NOT need to be replaced. The company bases its decisions on a visual inspection only. It does not provide any objective evidence regarding carbon monoxide generation. Because of my technical background, I was aware that further testing was warranted. IN addition, because I am fortunate, I could afford to pay a second contractor to perform these additional tests. My concern is for the customer, such as a single mother or pensioner who cannot afford a second opinion, who trust contractors and their opinions implicitly. Your average consumer places great trust in the knowledge and opinions of the contractors who work in these specialized fields. I would hate to see them exploited.

After purchasing a special $ 49.00 offer for cleaning and inspecting the furnace from Angie's List, I had a strong feeling the service tech would try to sell me some sort of extra or questionable service. After arriving he went downstairs and came back up to advise me that the pad for my humidifier was dry after supposedly being in operation all of last winter. He then stated it obviously was not working all of last year. He then advised that a part must be replaced for $152.00. I advised him the humidifier had been serviced by MPV last Fall and that it had been shut off by MPV this past Spring when I had my air conditioner serviced. I advised him neither MPV tech reported any problems on either occasion, and it would seem the problem would be MVP's responsibility. I am currently unable to travel downstairs due to surgery, so I advised him to fix it. I then called the MVP service manager twice and left messages on her voice mail to discuss this problem, but I have never received a return call even though I was assured of a return call. Unless I receive some sort of resolution of this problem, I will not use MVP again and may not buy another Angie's list offering.
Description of Work: Inspected and hoppefully cleaned and serviced home heating unit. I also requested that the humidifier be turned on for the winter.

I purchased an Angie's List deal from MVP Electric, Heating & Cooling for $59. The company was suppose to come out and perform an Inspection and provide a bid on work that I wanted them to perform. The deal included $129 credit towards any work that they did. They could only see me during regular day hours - so I took off work to meet them at my house. The Tech and his manager who also came along were both polite and professional. I showed them what I wanted performed - 1. repair a ballast in a fluorescent light fixture. 2. Install a two switch light on deck. 3. Replace outside motion detection light fixture. (all light fixtures and bulbs were being supplied by homeowner). This activty took less than 8 minutes. I then listened to an 20 plus minute sales pitch on their company and their maintenace agreement plans. I answered their questions and then I asked them to cut the sales pitch - that I did not want an service agreement - I simply wanted a bid on the work that I had showed them. The Tech said that he would get that for me. He said that he would need to go back to his truck to prepare it. I told him that he was welcome to do it at the kitchen table. He said that he had to go to his truck and would return. After about twenty minutes he returned and presented me with a bid for $781.65 for the work and an service agreement which I in turn declined. The tech wanted to know why and I informed him it was too high. He then asked what I thought was it should be and I told him that I wasn't going to engage in negotiations with them. - In the I felt that I paid someone to listen to their sales pitch and they were not interested in the work that I wanted performed. More painful than attending a presentation for a Time Share - and I do not go to them! My time is worth more to me - this company wasted my time. How about the customer and less about your own company and what you can peddle?
Description of Work: Provided a bid for work - more like a sales job.

As you stated, the deal you purchased included a home inspection. The electrician is expected to complete the inspection and present you with options for the both any safety issues he found as well as the items you were interested in having repaired. You are then given the opportunity to discuss what repairs you would like him to do. As with any service provider there is always someone cheaper. We provide a service experience, expertise, professionalism, and guarantees well beyond what is provided my others and it does cost a little more. I would rather apologize for a higher price than try to explain poor service. We apologize that you felt our technician taking time to explain to you how our company works and what services we offer painful. Our focus is always on the customer and their families.

Recently I had a checkup before winter. I thought they were kind of expensive but I wasn't at a point in my life that I could get estimates because my furnace was going out. They were great, they came out the next day and put it in. I would go with them only because they put it in so I would go with them for furnace calls and things like that depending on how much they charge me. I had a one year contract with them that will be coming up in December.

It went TERRIBLE! Worst experience I've had with purchases on Angie's List yet! I researched the deals, and thought I was getting a service...I was content knowing I was going to have a quality home repair done...and then it all fell to pieces! Again, I'm not sure whether Angie's List is to blame or the provider, but it was an overall pathetic experience!
Description of Work: The provider DID NOTHING! After signing up for the deal the provider called me to say they did not do business in my area (even though the DEAL was listed as "available" to me). I'm not sure who's to blame...Angie's List or the provider.

We ran an Angie's List Big Deal. It ran it for the full market (entire KC area) but we intended it to only go to our service area. For that reason we turned down the job. We didn't turn it away because it is in an undesirable neighborhood. We have chosen to focus on the area near our shop to minimize [Member Information Removed] time. It's unfortunate that a client had a bad experience due to miscommunication between us and Angie's List.

I will never EVER use MVP again and have told everyone I know what scam artists these people are. I bought an Angie's list deal and this meant that they were required to do their full house electrical inspection when they first arrived. After that, they came back with a list a mile long of things that were supposedly wrong with my house. Their prices were astronomical! Something that took them 4 minutes to do was $180. Then the original reason for the call - they didn't even fix it because they said it would require a new switch. Told me it'd be cheaper to replace the entire light fixture (which was $400 brand new just 2 years prior) than to replace the switch. When he finally came back with a quote for a replacement switch, he was charging me $571.84. I looked up the switch and found it and a local lighting store down the street who had it in stock for $25. I bought it and replaced it myself. When I spoke with someone at their office, I explained the situation and they said that I could "try and take it up with the service man" but they they couldn't help me. Disgusting way to run a business - I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.

It went well, they were punctual and professional. I was told afterwards by two other contractors that perhaps the price was a bit high for the work that was done, but in fairness I did not have any additional professional bids completed. The man that installed the gas line was surprised at the price and told me that he had suggested a certified electrician friend of his who he was sure would have been cheaper, but I used MVP based on Angie's List reviews. My son is a construction supervisor and was also a little surprised by the price. The only thing that really bothered me was that I didn't realize that he would need to make changes to the circuit breaker box, which my husband had framed in (for appearance). They charged me $50 to access the box. All they did was pry off four framing boards, which I could have done myself in about 3-5 minutes while they got their supplies out of the car if I had known that was all they meant by accessing the box. I felt a little like they were making up the difference on the Angie's List deal that I had purchased. May not be fair to feel that way, but I did. They did a good job, I would use them again, but I would also get multiple bids first and make sure that I understood additional charges fully before I agreed to them.

We just bought a house with an older furnace already in the home so we decided to get a tune up done before the winter comes. Everything was okay. We had them do two jobs, the first one was great, the second one I wasn’t that impressed with. I thought the pricing was a little high. I wouldn’t recommend them again. Not only that but the outlet box that they put out on the outside of the house, they are usually cut into the siding so that they are flushed and these actually stick out from the side of the house, plastic boxes. And the flip covers on them were piece of crap, they constantly come off. I thought it was really shoddy work. I had a ton of wire that they could have used but they went ahead and used their own and, of course, charged me for the material. They only should have been here a couple of hours, they kept forgetting stuff. The kid had to keep leaving to go pick up stuff. So, they ended up being here for about five hours just to do that small job.
Description of Work: I used MVP Electric, Heating & Cooling. They put two exterior outlets on the house. They put two 10-foot runs, a whole new fuse box and all the breakers, a surge suppressor and everything.

It was raining on the day of work and the technician called to let me know they'd be about thirty minutes late since the rain was "supposed" to be moving out. They arrived at the time they indicated but rain was still coming down. The power company was late to arrive to cut power. In short, it was a rough day for them with the rain and supporting processes not coming off as scheduled. They were prepared with a canopy to cover them while they worked in the rain. Due to the many delays, the technician needed to come back the following day (his day off, by the way) to finish. The technician was extremely respectful and also apologetic for the delays (over which, he had control). He explained what they were doing and why so it was also educational. Since I do own an older home, I have no doubt future electrical work will be needed and I will definitely have them back based on this experience. I've had limited electrical work done on my home previous to this and am so glad I went with MVP this time. Excellent work and superior customer service.
Description of Work: They had a big job. I have an older home which needed extensive updates on the exterior and interior of my home to bring everything up to code. That included moving external meter a few feet because it was too close to a window, updating the meter and housing, installing a mast for the wiring from the pole to my home to be at the appropriate height. They also needed to upgrade my circuit box. It was a big job.
