I'm very, very disappointed in this company! The service tech said I had cracks in the fire box that were causing gas leaks. He showed me something on the video and said they were small cracks. So he turned off the gas, and gave me a proposal for a new furnace/air conditioner. I was shocked at the price - $8500-$9500. The next day I had service techs from 2 very reputable companies each look over the furnace and told me there's nothing wrong with it!!! And the first one turned my gas back on. I later got a bid for a new system for $2000 less than the MVP bid. The price difference doesn't bother me as much as the dishonesty.
Description of Work: I had a service contract with this company for about 2 years - was first introduced to them through Angieslist and their reviews looked good. I was satisfied with their checks of my furnace and airconditioner -- until this last time. I knew my furnace was getting old and would need to be replaced soon.

A couple weeks after installing the new line he returned to replace the main panel. Apparently he didn't measure very carefully because the new panel didn't fit between the studs, where the old one had been. For some reason he rough-cut wood-grain paneling, even though the problem was the studs, then screwed two pieces of 1x6 across the hole so he could mount the circuit breaker box. (I had to supply the 1x6 from a scrap piece I had in my garage.) As a result the new circuit panel is mounted outside the wall instead of inside, between the studs. The two photos give an idea of the workmanship. The first photo shows inside the old panel. Note that the wiring is reasonably neat - even where the cables exit the top and route into the wall behind the wood paneling. The second photo shows the new panel. It shows a different "style" of wiring. When I worked in various technical jobs, we would have called "rat's nest" wiring. Note that several cables at the top aren't even routed behind the wall - they are hanging over the various pipes in the basement ceiling. Oh yes - and there was never any attempt to shield my floors from the dirt he tracked in on his shoes. (Technicians and repairmen from other companies always slipped covers over their shoes before entering the house.)
Description of Work: A circuit breaker for the garage door and kitchen refrigerator kept tripping. I took advantage of an Angie's special offer from this company. The repairman did a whole house inspection. Later he found that the circuit breaker for that circuit was defective (worn out from age) and couldn't handle the combined loads. He said that the defective circuit breaker in the main panel couldn't be replaced because the whole panel was too old. He recommended splitting the circuit (running a new line from the basement to the kitchen) so the refrigerator would be on a different circuit. He also hinted that I should buy a whole house service contract (furnace, air conditioner and electrical) because the main panel needed to be replaced. I explained I already had a plumbing, heating and cooling contract with another company, but he insisted it would still save me money in the long run. The total cost for both the new circuit and, later, the new circuit breaker box was within industry standards and buying the whole house contract did lower the total price even more.

Our goal is never to disrespect the home of any customer. We strive to leave every home better than when we arrived. We expect every technician to wear shoe coverings and use drop clothes to protect your home and belongings. I can assure you this matter will be addressed with each technician. We staff highly skilled, experienced electricians that focus on completing the work above par and within all safety codes. It is unfortunate that we were not aware that this customer was unhappy until 22 months after the work was done. We would welcome the opportunity to revisit the customer's home and make and corrections needed to the work that was done.

If you call you get a response immediately. They always have somebody out and the person they have come out is always the person they say it’s going to be. They always show up when they say they will and they get the work done. In my experience they billed by the job and not by the hour so it doesn’t cost necessarily as much if it takes a long time to find what the problem is.

The first technician didn't know that I had purchased a deal, and he seemed frustrated about that and Iater I found out that he actually quit. The owner of this company came out for my second inspection and was not sympathetic about the deal description confusion. He them told me to call Angie's List for the refund. I would not recommend this company. They weren't interested in making things clear for customer satisfaction.

We regret that there was a misunderstanding. During the visit we made every attempt to clarify the difference between a panel swap (what the customer purchased) and a full service upgrade (what the customer needs). We have sold hundreds of this deal and completed the work exactly as the customers expected. We suggested the customer reach out to Angie's List to obtain a refund in an effort to avoid the negative review based on her misinterpretation of the advertised deal.

We had these outlets replaced per a request from the person buying our home. We didn't have a lot of time to go out for multiple bids/quotes. We went with mvp and I regret doing this. There price is outrageous, to replace each outlet was $144!!!!! I would not recommend them based on their pricing. We spent over $500 to have them replace 4 outlets.

It is unfortunate that you felt the agreed upon price was too high. As with any service provider there is always someone cheaper. We provide a service experience, expertise, professionalism, and guarantees well beyond what is provided my others and it does cost a little more. I would rather apologize for a higher price than try to explain poor service. Our focus is always on the customer and their families.

This was a $49 big deal purchase. It was okay. They tried to upgrade you after the service. My interaction with them was okay but I didn't like it that they tried to push extra services. They did what the coupon described. Maybe other customers will like it but I know what I paid for but I don't like to be asked to pay more for a service that I did not request. I did not purchase additional services.

We called for service to address a dead electrical outlet and to provide estimates for other electrical projects needed as well as for a new water heater. The representative inspected the outlet of interest and other relevant parts of the home. They then provided rather high estimates for the services, along with a sales pitch for a $189 yearly membership plan. We needed the outlet running ASAP so we went ahead with that only - $250 for what amounted to about 30 minutes of work and probably about $10 worth of materials for them. That's a ripoff in my book - and I'm not one to begrudge paying a great hourly rate for professional services. On top of that, the gentleman left a yard sign promoting MVP Electric in our yard without asking our permission to post that. Needless to say we promptly removed it. I felt taken advantage of and won't be using them going forward - too bad, as we have a large amount of work to be done in the near future!

I emailed MVP to ask if they did such a thing, as I know they do some work with water lines related to HVAC work. Rhonda emailed back the same day. I called to schedule a time and Rhonda was extremely efficient and helpful. Todd came out, quoted the work (in this case cheaper than the plumber I called), and did the work on the spot. He not only reviewed the work with my wife, but then called me as well (without prompting) as I'm the one who usually talks with him. Just excellent. They have previously done an excellent job with an extensive electrical outlet addition in our unfinished basement as well as great work on regular spring/fall HVAC service. Can't recommend them highly enough.

When I made the appointment I explained what my problem was, but when the technician arrived he told me he didn't know the system. He proceeded to remove a part that he thought needed replacing, but when I called the manufacturer for the part I was informed that I only needed to re-progem the system. I asked for the tech to come back and reinstall the part and was charged for a second service call. I feel that I shouldn't be billed for the second call since the technician erred in the first place.
Description of Work: The technician was prompt and professional. After telling me he didn't know much about low-voltage access systems he proceeded to remove a part he said was "probably" the problem.

It turned out that it was going to be too expensive to do the light under my microwave. The light had burned out and when I went to take it out, the brass part of the light bulb stayed inside. The guy was nice, but he said, that it was going to be $150 because he was going to have to tear out the microwave. Where he has to go to get to light is, all the way in the back almost against the wall. I can't get to it, it's a very small compartment. I like my microwave, but I can't believe that they didn't make the light bulb more accessible. Then the light bulb just broke off. It was too small to get to. He said he could repair it, and if we didn't want to spare the expense, he understood that. I decided it wasn't worth it, I could almost buy another microwave for that. I ended up going to the store and getting the stick on lights. They are working for when we need extra light. I definitely would have done business with him if it had been affordable. I tried to see if I could get it out, but I bent it. He came out within a couple of days. It was worth it to see what my options were. It was my choice to not do it. He could have offered a lower price. I'd consider using them again.

First of all, let me say that the man who came out was very professional and helpful. I have issues with the company policies, but not him. About 7:30pm we found an electrical receptacle in the basement that smelled of smoke and was blackened. I jumped on Angie's list to find a repairman. MVP was the only highly rated one that said they were open until 8pm. I wanted to avoid an after hours charge, so I called them instead of looking further. When I called I was told there would be a $124 "walking in the door charge". Because there was no one else who worked that late, I said okay. When the service man arrived, I asked him if the "walking in the door charge" would be applied to any repairs and he said no. This was, in fact, and after hours charge as it showed when I got the final bill. He said he had received the call to come out at 8:05, and that is why I was charged the additional $124. Also, because this was after hours, I did not receive the 10% Angie's list discount. I feel like this is bait and switch. If the company shows their regular hours as open until 8pm, why was I charged an after hours call when I called before 8pm. I would have continued shopping for a better rate if I had known this. What it would take for me to be satisfied with this company is for them to refund the $124 plus give me the 10% discount of $17.64, a total refund of $141.64. This only seems fair...... I told them what i wanted was the amount i was overcharged plus the discount paid to me in cash. After 5 months they did meet that requirement so that is why i have made that change.

It went so bad that we are considering legal action through litigation or arbitration. We feel that we were taken advantage of and that MVP demonstrated poor ethics. At a minimum, we want to let Angies List to be aware of this particular issue in case other people ever have a similar experience. The tech that was first sent out was apparently inexperienced. He leaked water throughout the basement during the repair of the solenoid valve. After the repair of the capacitor, that evening we heard loud noises in our basement and the heat stopped working. We called MVP back out. The dispatch said," let's bring out someone more experienced to look at what's going on." They said that the first technician that they sent out for the maintenance trip had not been with the company very long. The more experienced tech came out and indicated that a door to the furnace had been left open (which was the cause of the loud noises) and caused the system to overwork. The unit froze as a result of the door being open, breaking our compressor. Because of the assessment by the manager and the fact that MVP claims to be insured and bonded, we thought that their insurance would take care of repairing the damage caused by the inexperienced tech. Nope, I called the owner and he said they weren't responsible. To me, besides the fact that the manager thought it was the inexperienced tech's repair, it seemed like an unbelievable coincidence that although the unit was working fine for 10 years and was maintained every year, including working on the day of the repair that the unit would fail within hours of a scheduled maintenance. The owner refused to pay anything until I said that I thought I would like to pursue arbitration. At that point he offered to pay half of his own cost (which would he estimated at the cost to be $1450). I wasn't satisfied, but reluctantly agreed because arbitration can be lengthy and using my attorney would be expensive. His team came out, quoted the repair, and then the owner suggested that we might be more pleased to upgrade and replace the system. He said he would give us credit for what we agreed to and they gave us a quote. We almost went with it but decided to check how good of a deal that we were getting. We called Midwest Heating and Cooling to give a quote. We assumed that because Midwest used a typically more expensive unit, a Trane, rather than an American Standard which was MVP's product, that Midwest would be higher. Nope, in fact it was 1/3 less than the supposed great deal that was claimed to make up for the damage caused by the technician. Make your own inferences here but at this point, we lost any ability to trust MVP. To me, it looks like they broke the unit and now they were gonna make a large profit with a new system. We went back to the owner requesting some sort of restitution to make up for the fact that because of their poor job I was now having to pay for an 8 thousand dollar plus new system. I would think that he would be able to give us payment to cover the amount of damage caused by their technician.
Description of Work: We bought a maintenance deal from Angies List with MVP for an HVAC standard maintenance. During the maintenance, the tech discovered there was a low running capacitor and solenoid valve issue. They attempted and charged us for the repairs.

The client bought two $49 furnace tune ups through Angie's List. Our tune up tech did both of the tune ups. Later the client called and said they didn't have heat out of one of the units. We sent a senior service tech and our service manager out to the home. Neither told me anything about a door being off or loose. They told me they found a loose wire on the board for the wireless thermostat. Later the heat pump quit working. We never touched the heat pump- only the furnaces. It was snowy that day and all involved parties said there no footprints going to the heat pump. We couldn't have broken the heat pump without touching it. I offered to cover half of the cost of a new compressor because we were just there and the client was very upset. The unit was 12 years old and was at the end of its life so we also offered replacement options. The client was interested in that and we priced several options at deeply discounted prices. I even gave the client a list of my costs after they questioned the price. I'm not sure what model of Trane equipment was being priced by the other contractor- they wouldn't tell me. Trane and American Standard are exactly the same equipment, they are just sold by different dealers. If they were quoting the same model we should have been significantly cheaper. In the end the client chose to believe the other contractor and not actually compare models, which is unfortunate.

This was a $49 big deal purchase and it was fine. I have used them before. They are, like, heating, plumbing and electrical. They do multiple things. I was happy with this side of the business. When I bought the deal online it was kind of cold here so they were kind of booked up, but I was not in vast need of that service. I think it took about three weeks for them to come out, which was fine with me. On the electrical side of their business they have one technician who probably should not be doing electrical.

After having spent some t ime on the phone explaining to the owner in detail what the job would entail, 3 men arrived on schedule but with no apparent insructions from their boss. They spent a lot of time to find exactly what I'd told their boss beforehand, and then they called him for help with understanding a component that I had described to their boss and which he could have/should have researched before sending his men out to my home. After 90 minutes plus of their trying to understand why our front yard lights were working, I asked them to stop and leave. I was not charged for this waste of everyone's time. For simple tasks like hanging a light fixture where there is existing wiring, I'm sure they are competent.
