I'm not sure why we got a "C". We went out check on the clients light fixture not working. The client had changed the light bulbs but hadn't installed them quite right. We did that for her and also removed a broken bulb from a socket. We did that for a dispatch fee only- no add'l charge. We have reached out to this client to see why our grade was low.

Don't be fooled by the deals or the company at all. I'm shocked that they are still in business with the offerings and prices they expect. I bought the $49 deal that come with $125 in work, which is the joke. They did show up right on time and Todd was a really nice guy and new what he was talking about. Back to the heart of the matter within 10 mins they were wanting to charge me over $750. Two outdoor lights(not broken just switched)-$229 Replace room light for fan-$151 Plus-$179 if the fan needed new box Fixe a spliced plug-$177 So needless to say I didn't get a lot of work done today with MVP. Though it's funny all their prices were above the $125 deal, which ensured I had to give them money. So to sum it up I refuse to pay someone $700 for a hour of work. It funny I saw my neighbor after MVP left and told me that lights we can do in 5 minutes and the fan would be maybe $30 in parts. Please skip this place and the scam deal, look else where and hold on to your money. Just to make a point the the Companies response. 1.Remove two existing light fixtures and install new outdoor light fixtures in those locations. Will take about two hours. This took me a total of 20 mins including watching a youtube video to change them myself. I have never worked with lighting or electrical beside changing a light bulb. Does 2 hours not seem high? 2. Install a customer provided ceiling fan in a location where light fixture is currently. Will take a little over an hour including fan assembly. No mention of assembly taking an hour, I could of done that while it took two hour to change the lights 3. Install a fan rated box (required by code) if the box behind the light fixture is not fan rated. Will take about an hour I haven't done yet, but a fan rate box($13.37 Home Depot) in simple terms is the equipment that holds the base of the fan tighter to prevent falling. The hour time might be close to fair, but I was quoted 30 mins by a different company with install the fan. 4. Repair faulty wiring. Will take an 1-2 hours depending on degradation of wiring Took 30 mins to replace the wiring, I understand the range on this issue. IDEA: maybe we rework your book of times or provide your book to the public so that we can look at it and not waste or time with a call. If you already have your price set just put it out so that your thousands of clients know what to approximately what to expect. Plus side: The tech was really nice and even early, which is a great thing.

There is no scam. Our pricing is the same whether it is with one of these Deals or not. We have a flat rate price guide that all of our prices come from regardless of client location, status, or what Deal they may have purchased. The client bought a BigDeal for $49 that is good toward $125 worth of electrical work. The work she described is most of a days work! The work consisted of: 1. Remove two existing light fixtures and install new outdoor light fixtures in those locations. Will take about two hours. 2. Install a customer provided ceiling fan in a location where light fixture is currently. Will take a little over an hour including fan assembly. 3. Install a fan rated box (required by code) if the box behind the light fixture is not fan rated. Will take about an hour 4. Repair faulty wiring. Will take an 1-2 hours depending on degradation of wiring. Those times I listed are approximations to show that this is not an hours worth of work. There is no scam. And we are in business because we have thousands of clients that want a qualified electrician, from a reputable company that will stand behind their work rather than a handyman in a pickup truck that may not be around next month. We have had a couple of complaints with this Deal and probably will not run it again. We get very few complaints from the larger dollar amount Deals.

I have an electrical meter box that needs to be reattached to the house. Their quote was $300 higher than anyone else's which is fine because it's a quote but part of the quote included a $100 charge for a permit that wasn't required. If a permit was required (electrical permit up to $700 of work), the city charges $13.00.

Our 22 year old A/C went kaput. We got one bid that was a little high with no rebates. Got another from the owner of MVP with rebates for about $1,000 less. Initially, he said it would be about two weeks, but turned out to be only 4 days. Three installer arrived on a Friday at the exact time they said they would. They were very professional. They thought it would take two days to remove the old units and install the new, but they were able to get it done the same day. Took about 11 hours. The next day we noticed the smell of natural gas in the basement. Called MVP and the owner came out immediately and identified a loose fitting, so he tightened it up. No problems since. Everything is working well. We are very satisfied.

The electrician arrived on time and was very nice I showed him the new chandelier and told him I wanted to replace my existing one. He couldn't figure out how he was going to get a large ladder in my entry hall. The dimensions of the area are 10'x14', then he told me that they don't have a ladder that tall and that he would have to rent one or rent a single person electric lift at my expense! He went back to his truck and 30 minutes later returned with a quote of over $450 that is over and above the credit of my $149 groupon, and said that he didn't have another person with him and that if I accepted this outrageous quote that they would have to come back in two weeks because he didn't have time to hang it today. This news came after I took the day off from work to be here for them since I was initially told they would have time to hang it and that the groupon should cover the cost. I complained to the office and received a phone call from whom I believe to either be the manager or owner of the company. Again he was very nice and told me that they charge per service with flat rate pricing, so if it takes them 30 minutes or 8 hours they charge the same amount. He said the customers seem to like that pricing, I can't understand how it would be beneficial to a customer to have them work an hour but be expected to pay for the full day's wages. The gentleman said they don't have a ladder that tall and offered to remove the rental fee but I was still responsible for the $450. I declined the offer and will be asking for my money back and will be very cautious on buying one of these "deals" in the future. I had quotes from two other people who are licensed and insured, one from another electrical company and the other from a handyman service. They both came in at $100 and that was if they had to install additional support in the junction box otherwise it would be $50 for the simple re-wiring and hanging of the light. When buying this "deal" I thought since they were going to charge me $100 that I would be covered with $149 credit and be able to save the extra $50. Unfortunately I fell victim to the old bait and switch.
Description of Work: I called in to set an appointment to have a chandelier replaced in a 2 story entry. I told them that the new chandelier was over 50 pounds and that my ceilings were 18ft.. The dispatcher I spoke with was very nice and set the appointment for a quote and if the quote was accepted that they would have time to install the chandelier that day and that they would send 2 guys to hang it. The groupon was $49 and was valued at $149.00

Purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for $99, to cover installation of a wall mounted television. The wall bracket was included in the price of the deal. The service was scheduled quickly after the purchase of the deal. The installers arrived promptly at the scheduled time and went right to work. The 42 inch TV was mounted and all wiring was done with surround sound, DVD player and DVR/cable all hooked up. The tech cleaned up after himself and left the area neat and clean. I was very satisfied with every aspect of this service and would definitely use MVP Electric for future work in my home.

This provider is running a great scam. I purchased for $49 the service call and $125 of electrician services. I needed 3 flurescent fixtures replaced in a closet, a light switch replaced, and some bulbs above a cove replaced. I had purchased the replacement fixtures and bulbs from Home Depot, so it was simply a matter of removing 3 fixtures from the ceiling and replacing them with the same (albeit new) fixtures. I then wanted the bulbs from the old fixtures installed in some cove lighting where the bulbs had burned out. I also need a wall switch replaced. Here is the bid I received from the technician: replace the fixtures ($545.28); replace the switch ($122.97); replace the burned out bulbs ($85.47). I asked the technician what he was basing the pricing on, and he told me it was all contained in his pricing book, which he showed me. Sure enough, those were the prices for those services. When I told the technician that the total job would likely take less than 1.5 hours, he agreed. That works out to $500.00 per hour for electrical services. The only charge for a part was the cost to replace the wall switch (which can be purchased at Home Depot for under $5.00). Even if you don't know anything about electrical repairs, if someone is going to charge you $85.47 to climb on a step ladder to replace 2 burned out flurescent bulbs (maybe 4 minutes of work), you know that their pricing is unrealistic. I called the office to complain about the pricing and was told by the person I spoke to that she would first have to speak with the technician, but would then call me back. Although I had that conversation at 10:00 am, I never received a return call. AVOID THIS SERVICE PROVIDER!! They offer a discount price to make house calls so that they can prey on unsuspecting customers who may not know what is involved in the requested repairs. If a customer rejects their outrageous quote, the company keeps your $49.00. On the other hand, if you are sufficiently ignorant of repair costs, they can charge you the "fixed price" contained in the technician's pricing book. It's not fraud, but it is certainly preying on the unsuspecting, and a practice that Angie's List should not tolerate. Even if the Company offers to refund my $49 in exchange for removing this review, I will refuse. This scam needs to be exposed.
Description of Work: Nothing. After receiving the quotation for services, I sent the technician away.

I had signed up for the annual service plan and the maintenance technician came to my home to perform the annual service to my AC. The technician performed a series of maintenance / tests, and told me the Freon was low and thus was leaking. She showed me condensation near the coil above my new furnace. She explained the condensation would eventually rust out parts of my furnace ruining my new furnace. She also spoke of carbon monoxide poisoning and even pointed out asbestos on my ductwork. At the end recommending replacement of my AC, and adding a good dose of fear on her sales pitch. It worked and I got quotes for multiple models. I felt like she was using pressure tactics to make a sale and she admitted she at least works partly on commission. Therefore I wanted to call around and at least get some other quotes assuming it was time to get a new unit anyways. She said that was fine and said that she wouldn't run my AC if she was me. Low and behold my AC did completely quit working the next day after her maintenance service. Ok that's funny I thought. I already gotten better quotes from other companies for the same model anyway so I had the other company come out. The other company (Bob Mills) did an excellent job installing the new AC and it was Bob himself doing the work. Bob tells me THE SERVICE VALVE HAD BEEN CLOSED ON THE OLD AC AND THUS KILLING THE COMPRESSOR. He said their is no reason for this valve to have even been shut. I called MVP and they said the technician from MVP didn't even have the tool to shut valve. Based on my gut feelings about the technician anyways and then the AC going out immediately after she left and then the fact that Bob had nothing to gain by telling me that (he was already installing my new AC) I CALL FOUL! Anyone else have a similar experience. If not, I guess I'm just an anomaly, but I wouldn't sign up for their maintenance agreement/ you'll get a salesperson - not a maintenance person. MVP has certainly lost my trust, but yes I am just one person and if no one else has had this experience then take it with a grain of salt.

We installed a furnace for this client over the winter and did some electrical work, and he signed up for our service plan during that process. When we did Spring service on the air conditioner we found the freon level was low, and the condensate pan under the a-coil was leaking and informed the client. He asked what might happen if not fixed or repaired. That is when he was told that is was dripping on the motor and the heat exchanger of his new furnace and could cause rust. If allowed to rust through- a hole in the heat exchanger can allow carbon monoxide into his home. Water on the fan motor can cause pre-mature failure. We also pointed out some asbestos covering some old ductwork to make sure he was aware of it. Neither was done as a scare tactic- both are simple facts that we pointed to the homeowner to make sure he was aware. If we had not pointed them out, he would have a very legitimate complaint about us not being thorough in our inspections. We do an extremely thorough inspection when we do our Spring and Fall precision tune ups- far more than the clean and check you get from most companies. Most clients appreciate the thorough job and information about their system. We catch a lot of problems before they turn into major issues Our tune up specialists are specially trained on the tune up process and focuses on that work. The technician that we sent to this client does not own a service valve wrench- which would be necessary to close his service valve. In fact if we had closed the service valve while we were there the unit would not work at all. The insinuation that we would deliberately break a unit is absurd and hurtful. We neither do business that way nor employ people that would. And yes if our tech happens to sell a replacement air conditioner while on the job they do get a small commission because it saves us the time and expense of sending out a salesperson.

Chip was the only company that would give us a bid on this big of a job. I think it takes a lot of time to work up a bid and all of our options. He worked with us until we found the option that fit our budget and worked best for the house. He had a two man crew in for 4 and half days. I was comfortable enough with these men being in my house with me and my small children. They were professional but had a good demeanor. If any problems arose they were taken care of quickly. They are a company that wants to keep the customer happy. We appreciate the job they did and plan to use them again in the future.

He was very nice and spent a great deal of time cleaning the air conditioner. He said the condenser was bad and I needed a new air conditioner and that it may last a short while or a long time. While he was there the pilot light for the furnace went out. I asked him to relight it, but he said he couldn't as it was cracked and I would need a new furnace. He said I needed a new water heater also. He took a great deal of time with the cleaning of the air conditioner and I was pleased with that. I said I would use them again because the $49 was a good deal but I did not use them for the furnace as I found a better price and I am very pleased with the people who installed it. I did not need a new water heater. I don't remember the exact date but it was the summer of 2013.

I purchased a tune up for a tenant of mine's ac unit. This lady is old and they called her and she told them the unit wasn't working. Mvp then wouldn't go out to do the tune up, they said the unit was broke and a tune up couldn't be done. They have a list of a lot of things that the tune up covers which may get the unit to work and I told mvp if there was anything above the tune up I would pay it. They tried to up charge me to an after hours call of 120. I declined and they didn't schedule me and emailed me saying I need to get a refund. In talking to a manager there it is clear they are busy and don't' want to work on Angie's deals because it was only 49 dollars. When I raised a fit they tried to get on the schedule for 6-2 and I purchased this 5-27 and they said this was the earliest time they had since I didn't want to pay extra. I am confused on why Angie's list is selling service for these guys who can't get to i and try to to up charge the customer when they call, and doesn't schedule the work to get done. I need a refund for this big deal, it is a waste of time.

Response from MVP Electric, Heating & Cooling
The client bought a BigDeal for an ac tune up. Tune ups are done during regular hours on functioning equipment by a tune up technician specifically trained and outfitted to do tune ups. Much like a tune up on a car, or a check up for your teeth- these appointments are for preventative maintenance and are done by technicians specifically trained for that process. What the client needed for was a diagnosis and repair. Our service techs are extremely busy right now due to the above average temperatures and we were a couple days out on getting a service tech to him unless he was willing to pay for an after hours call by our on-call tech. We offered to apply the $49 he had already paid toward the after hours service call, but he did not want to that. The client wanted a service call and diagnosis right away for the price of a pre-paid tune up. He simply did not want to pay for what he needed and that is a shame because as he wrote his tenant is elderly and without ac.

Chip, afterward, even went back to the office to do research on an item (air purifier system) that another company had offered me and he promptly emailed me some info that I otherwise would have been uninformed about from the other company but said if I wanted it, he could get it but made better recommendations. In the end, I went with the other company, mainly because I was unaware of this prompt email being in my spam box and I failed to check back with Chip and see what he had learned. Wasn't until the installation form the "other" company I realized their was a breakdown of communication with the spam box and my lack of followup. Chip normally follows up with a phone call himself but with a personal issue, overlooked this. The other company was able to get me in fast and so with my a/c out, I was anxious and jumped on it. I have no doubt Chip and his company would have done a great job and will look to them in the future.
