Asplundh was doing work for KCPL. They left chain saws, harnesses and lines in our back yard and did not let us know they had been in our yard. At 9:00 PM they came to the door and said they had to trim our trees away from the power lines as a matter of national security under the Department of Homeland Security. They climbed our trees in the dark with chain saws and butchered three large pines. We were told we had no choice in the matter. They left for the night and left the back yard covered with limbs. Large branches were cut and left hanging in the trees. As of Saturday morning we were told they do not work on weekends so our back yard will be littered with tree branches and unsafe due to the hanging limbs until at least Monday. Information was sketchy at best. What they said could not be done on one tree was done on the next. I question the safety of sending tree trimmers up in the dark with a small flashlight. I also question how they could tell whether they were trimming the correct branches. We also discovered on Saturday morning that our gate had been left open. Luckily our dog did not get out of the yard since we are afraid to leave her out there alone with the hanging branches. I fault both Asplundh for the work they did and KCPL for there "sudden emergency" which the trimmers could not explain that made us the yard that must be trimmed in order to "protect the electric grid." As I stand in the back yard and can see trees in the next several yards that are closer to the lines then mine were that have not been touched. We were told that if the trees are damaged beyond repair it is not there problem and we will have to pay for their removal.
