Purchased windows after reviewing Angies List and doing a lot of reearch before subscribing to Angies List. The final price and the quoted price were dead on, "no surprises". Installation was pretty good and the new windows look great. Will have to see if energy savings that were talked about (no promises) are real. Milder weather after windows were installed will make it hard to determine. If everytthing works out, I will use them for siding sometime in the next two years.
Description of Work: Met with representative in July. He was prompt, curtious, knowledgable about the product, company and history. He really wanted to sell my wife too, who wasn't really interested, but she played along. She knows I do my homework and I already discussed with her. I originally wanted to replace three windows that were in bad shape on the south side of the house. I got a quote for those three, and after the pricing and finacning options were discussed, I decided to have him quote all of the windows. Overall the pricing came out to what I expected for a top of the line window. While I had done a lot of reserch on the types and grades of windows already, his sales pitch was consistent with what I had learned. We were offered special financing and pricing if we decided then and there. While I usually get multiple bids be fore deciding, I knew wha the was offering was in-line with my research. I pulled the trigger and signed on the dotted line. Financing wnet through, a crew came out to take more precise measurements, the windows were ordered and custom built. The windows were ready approximatley 3-4 weeks later. After a long drought, the installation day was threatening rain. The installers waited for an hour and the rain passed through. they started the installation and completed it in a few hours. All went well.

The windows are great, however the sliding door doesn't fit the frame right and it's skewed. I have called them, but, they haven't gotten back to me, it's the second one they've put in. They came out and took pictures, but, they haven't gotten back to me. It's been 3 weeks, but, I haven't called them back, either. They put the windows in and they didn't have a door for my space, they got another door from another company, it didn't fit, then they got me another door, I paid for the labor, but, they are trying. I have been pesky about that door, I think they're trying to ignore me, but, I can't blame them. They took the pictures about a month ago. I wasn't here when they put it in, I was working that day.
Description of Work: They put in new windows and doors for me.

The original window came up defective approximately six months after the installation -- slippage of the outer pane in the casing, clearly visible in the top right corner --looking out from inside the house. I called the company and they sent someone out several weeks later, August of 2011, Robert. Robert took pictures and acknowledged the defect, and said he would call as soon as possible with the next step. Robert called a week or so later, and said that the company would replace the window (large middle pane of a 3-light bay) but didn't know when. I never heard from Robert again, finding out later he had left the company. In November 2011, I called to find out what was going on. The FIRST attempt to replace the window was schedule for mid-December 2011; when the window arrived I rejected it for obvious defect in the weatherstripping surrounding the glass. The SECOND attempt was scheduled in January 2012, and Carrie inspected it when they received it from the manufacturer, and detected an apparently similar defect in the weatherstripping; she asked if I wanted it anyway and I said no. The THIRD window was installed March 9, 2012, appears OK. However, after the original defect, and obvious defects in 2 subsequent windows as they left the factory, I have serious questions about the product quality, particularly for the price.
Description of Work: The original service date was November, 2010. Company replaced a 3 window panel with a bay window in our living room.

They came when they said they would. He was running behind for the first appointment and said he could come in the evening, which didn't bother me a bit. He rescheduled and came and did the job. He cleaned up after himself. Both the sales guy and the installer were great. They were neat, tidy and on time. I actually got a cut on the deal, so it wasn't a bad price for triple pane. I would like to do more business with them but at $800 a window I have to pace myself. They have $189 a window specials but it doesn't come out to be that when you put in everything. The price wasn't out of bounds. I would definitely use them again.

Short summary: Multiple people with Alenco outright LIED both on the phone when setting the quotes appointment and during the live appointment. They explicitly said their siding product was not vinyl siding when I repeatedly asked because we wanted other materials. But both their Alenco company website & the vinyl siding manufacturer's (Crane) website explicitly said it WAS vinyl siding (if you dig into the websites enough). Longer summary: I will give them the benefit of the doubt that their vinyl siding product & services are good compared to other vinyl siding. However, my wife & I had previously done siding research & decided not to buy vinyl siding of any kind. We wanted quotes on other options, such as real solid wood, manufactured wood, fiber cement, etc. I specifically told the Alenco folks about this, both on the phone & in person, and they said, yes, they could give me quotes on other options besides vinyl siding. After taking my time & starting his sales pitch, I noticed some discrepencies in the words he was using. I also thought the siding examples he showed me actually looked like vinyl. He assured me it was not vinyl, but was a type of "composite" siding. He continued to work up his quote outside our home & I went inside to do a little quick research on-line. Within 10 minutes, I had found out that both the Alenco website & the Crane Siding website (& others) said it actually WAS a vinyl siding product. When I went outside to speak with the salesman again while he was measuring our house, I again said that I was wanting quotes on options other than vinyl siding & he again claimed the Crane Siding product they sold (the only siding product they sold, he said) was not vinyl, but some kind of composite polymer. When I then confronted him with the information from his own company website, he said the website was wrong & still tried to convince me to buy his product & services. I said we weren't interested & left him outside. He & his company, Alenco, were obviously desperate to make a sale & would lie to a customer to do so. I am very thankful that I have Angie's List & Consumer Reports memberships and research skills to catch people like this in their lies! Website references to back up my negative report: Alenco: www.alencoline.com Crane: www.CraneSiding.com and www.ExteriorPortfolio.com Crane's "Material Data Safety Sheet": www.ExteriorPortfolio.com/tech_doc/MSDS-CraneBoard.pdf I also consulted several other websites of reputable 3rd parties, including the American Institute of Architects & Consumer Reports.
Description of Work: No services were performed because I did my Angie's List research & other research & found out they were lying to us in their sales pitch about their siding product, so I decided not to use them.

They installed the windows right at the end of December because we wanted to get in for the tax rebate. The service was terrific. They were great. They did a real nice job. They were a very professional outfit. They were very good. I have no complaints at all. Their installers came out and did a great job. There was one little mistake and they fixed it immediately. There wasn't any problem at all. I don't think they could have done any better. We are going to use them in the future.

Alenco Inc. was great actually. I do not know how to answer questions about them but they were really good and very professional. I think their quote was going to be around $600 per window. The windows are so many different sizes so that was an average price for all of them. I had 13 windows that I was replacing. I am going to say the total because I had a couple of big windows too. It might have been around $7200 total. The smaller windows are about 23 by 40 and the bigger ones' are double the size. I actually liked them a lot. I thought they were very professional. I think I actually I had two different people come at two different times. That might be why I think that I was not really sure because they first gave me a different quote. They were just few months apart. I was confused about that. Other than that they were great. They were friendly. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: I had Alenco Inc. come and give an estimate on my apartment windows. They were going to replace each window in the house and clean up. I met them about a year ago. I did not use them. They were great.

I can't describe any services performed because we never got anywhere near that point. We didn't even get to the point of an estimate, What we did have was a salesman who showed up for an appointment totally unprepared to sell us anything. It was like he didn't know that he shoud probably bring samples of a product that might be of importance to our calling him to come over in the first place. No follow up on a possible second chance either. Why trust a company to work on your house when they don't even come prepared for the initial meeting? Sounds undependeable to me. UPDATE: We stand by our account of the experience. We did respond to the post from ALENCO and included the salesman's name. Not surprised that the company claims to have no knowledge or record of us. This follows along with our experience with their salesman. If they have no record of our encounter, the salesman must be covering his ineptness. The meeting we had with him and the phone calls were not hallucinations.

Salesman was nice but pushy. Feel the price paid was much too high for what I received.
Description of Work: 16 new double pane windows installed in early August. Disappointed that we hear as much outside noise with the new Alenco windows as before with the original windows, which we told Alenco and they said that most people don't. When in the back of the house we can hear car doors slamming out front, dogs barking across the street, cars going down the street. Don't know what the problem is but that shouldn't be. The day they installed the windows it was extremely hot and I mentioned that I could feel a lot of heat coming thru the glass of the windows. Windows need some touch up paint which I was told to do myself. Terribly disappointed with my decision thusfar. Anxious to see this winter when the wind is blowing if the curtains blow - a lot of caulk was used on some of the windows. Reason I went with Alenco was because of Toby Tobin's endorsement of them. Don, the installer was very professional.

We initially contracted with Joe Jacelone of Alenco to replace a picture window and a kitchen window. After considering the quality of the windows and the professional way that Joe handled our order, we called him back the following week and signed a contract to replace ALL of our windows...even in the garage. The quality is unsurpassed. We looked at the competitor's windows, and the Alenco windows are the best investment for the money. Joe was extremely thorough when measuring each window, and even came back with a template that he had made for a trapezoidal shaped window above the front door, to make absolutely sure of the fit. He was very up front about everything, including the six week lead time for manufacture. The installers were able to come on a Saturday, which made the whole process even more convenient for us. The team of three were very courteous and extremely competent. It was obvious that they were pros and not just some sub-contractor that was hired for the job. They had the old windows out and the new ones installed in about 2 1/2 hours, and spend the rest of the day covering the window trim with metal to match the windows and sealing each window inside and out. We had just had the house painted, and they took great care to avoid any damage. When they were finished, they cleaned up and hauled away our old windows and the worthless storm windows that had been installed by the previous owner. The weather has been great, so it may be a while before we see the true benefit of these new triple-pane windows and their insulating properties. However, we noticed one thing right away: how quiet it was in the house. Normally we can hear what's going on outside: birds chirping, dogs barking, etc., but now with the windows closed, there is a world of difference between the Alenco windows and the old leaky single-pane windows that we had. I would recomment Joe Jacelone and Alenco without hesitation. If you are window shopping, definitely contact him. Don't just compare price - go apples-to-apples and look at the real value of the product. Call joe at 913-710-8504 and take the time to let him show you the difference and explain the Alenco approach: 100% guaranteed - windows and labor - for life. It's a no-brainer.
Description of Work: Contracted for replacement windows for the entire house, including a new multi-pane picture window, kitchen window, two casement windows for the bathrooms, and seven double hung windows for the upper rooms. There was also one window above the front door that had to be specially made, as it was a uniquely shaped window. We purchased the best window they offer - triple pane low E.

Alenco gave us a bid for $32,000 for windows and siding then increased their bid to $36,000. They made a great sales presentation and the salesmen kept in touch. I told them to lower their price and they said they could not. They were one of the best presentations as far as the installation job. They were so far out of line on the price that we were pursuing them and would have paid a premium for their services and we decided that $10,000 was too much for a premium. We decided to move on when we got the increased bid. They wanted to deliver a premium product at a premium price and that is not what we were looking for.

Alenco removed and installed the new windows in less than 3 hours. They spent the rest of the day. caulking, sealing and finishing the trim work. The patio door opened from the wrong side. They ordered another one and returned in less than a month and took about 2 hours to replace it. Our installer was professional and worked in a very efficient manner. We bought vinyl windows with wooden interior trim that we have to stain to match the surrounding woodwork and furniture. Our installer left some sample pieces to perfect our staining abilities and to enable us to match the proper color stain. The windows are noticeably better than Thermal King, Pella and Andersen Windows. Rolox was a very nice window also but were priced much higher. I've noticed 15% - 25% energy savings every month. I'm satisfied with my purchase and Alenco.

Alenco was not the lowest price bid we received, but we liked the quality of the windows and the approach they discussed with dealing with our wood rot issues around some of the windows. They showed up actually ahead of schedule due to a cancellation, which was great for us. The windows were installed in one day and everything was completed to our satisfaction. We will definitely consider them again when we are ready to do the next "batch" of windows.
