Honestly, it was real pleasant experience. From the start to finish, the walked me through the whole process.

The owner arrived on time, provided a solution to the wood rot problem, and provided a reasonable bid within 24 hours. The office called the next day to schedule the work. The handymen (Bryan and Andrew) arrived on time and were professional. While on site, they noticed another board that needed replaced and took proactive action to replace, caulk, and paint.
Description of Work: We needed a small section of siding replaced due to wood rot and 10 windows caulked.

We hired Handyman Matters to fix a botched job performed by another contractor. The job was to tear out existing tile surrounding a fireplace, replace it with new and caulk and paint the wood around the fireplace. They were able to fit us in on relatively short notice and were able to complete the job in about a week from when we called them, which was very much appreciated. John came by to do the tile over two days. He removed the existing tile and got most of the new tile installed on day one, then came back and finished up the installation and grouted on day two. It was 1"x4" mesh backed herringbone tile, and he did a fantastic job. All the cuts were clean, tile was gapped properly, the attention to detail was outstanding and the tile was laid out perfectly across the fireplace. He really did an amazing job on this install and we were very happy with his work. Once the tile was done, Steven and Jason came over to paint. They caulked and filled the defects in the wood on the first day, then came back the second day to put a couple coats of paint on. They also did a great job. There were no drips or runs on the paint, they did a great job covering up the imperfections in the wood and there was no overspray. We were super happy with the work all 3 of them did. They were professional, courteous and communicated very well throughout the short project. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them for others!
Description of Work: Removal of tile from fireplace surround, installation of new tile, painting of wood around the fireplace to match trim.

Bryan has a golden touch and fixed all of our problem doors, without having to remove any of the bedroom wall. He was prompt, worked all day and was a skilled craftsman. We were so pleased, we asked him to give us a quote on remodeling our master bathroom.

The estimate process went well. The owner, Laurie, showed up on the date promised but a little late. She called in advance to say that she was running late so I did appreciate that heads up. I walked through all the work that needed to be done. They provided the estimate very quickly, within a few days even though it was a weekend. The price was a little higher than other estimates I had received however this provider had good reviews so I decided that the marginal increase was worth it. That was my first mistake and first lesson learned. We scheduled the work and it was during a time period when I had a lot of travel going on so I was very clear about the dates I was going to be in town. I was also very clear that I was looking to get the work done fairly quickly as I was interested in putting my house on the market as soon as possible. The weekend before the work was to begin I got a call from Laurie confirming that the crew would be there Monday morning and that she would also be there to meet them at 8am with me. I also received a call from one of the crew members letting me know who he was and that he was also confirming his arrival on Monday. Monday morning came and the crew showed up but I again got a call from Laurie that she was running a little late. I appreciated the call but this was beginning to feel like a pattern - once is okay but to do it again especially given that I work from my home and I had to schedule my work meetings to begin that day later so that I could be available to walk through the job, was no longer professional. Hence my lower grade on the professionalism scale. The grade would slide even more as the job went on. We walked through the work and it was then that I noticed that Laurie had not captured the work correctly in the estimate. I had asked that the living room ceiling be repainted when she and I walked through it originally. Apparently that was not in the estimate. So the estimate was revised as I stood there that morning for about $600.00 more. The crew was comprised of 3 men and it appeared that none of them had ever met each other before. Two were working on the drywall and painting and one was working on the bathrooms and the door project. I will call the bathroom guy "John" no pun intended because I think that really was his name! He did a good job. The painters/drywall crew- not so much. Where do I start with that harrowing tale? I have attached a picture of the first attempt at the finished drywall work which needless to say, wasn't approved by me and needed to be redone. But that was nearer to the end of the project which by the way, took almost 2.5 weeks for a job that was to have been done in 3 days. Why you might ask? Day 1 -- in the afternoon, John calls me upstairs to assist with finding a missing piece to the towel bar he is hanging. I notice as I am going upstairs that there is no drop cloths on the new carpeting on my stairs leading up to the second floor which is the ceiling that they were painting earlier in the day. But it doesn't really register as an issue - yet. Then as I am assisting John I notice that there is a lid to can of ceiling paint laying on a box of books I had packed up in the corner of the landing of the second floor and that someone's jacket is lying in the paint on the lid. I go to ask who's jacket is laying in paint and that is when I looked down at my new carpet and notice that paint had been spilled all over the carpeting. Not just on the landing but completely down the stairs. I asked what happened and no one takes responsibility for it other than to say a little paint had been spilled. Well it wasn't a little. And someone had tried to clean it up as evidenced by the lighter color of the pink ceiling paint in places on the carpet. But absolutely no one had come to me to tell me about it and I wonder if I had not have noticed - would they have said anything? Anyway I took pictures of the carpet immediately because it was brand new berber carpeting that I had had replaced less than 6 months before. I sent pictures attached to an email to Laurie who immediately called me and told me that she was very sorry and that this would be fixed. That they would get the stains out. I explained to her that you can't get the stains out of Berber and that once you start scrubbing and the fibers pull, which had already been pulled in places where someone had tried to clean up earlier, it just unravels. But she brought over her "Good Crew" the next morning to try to fix the issue and other issues because the crew in my house had put no drop cloths down. So in the downstairs bedroom there was paint on my hardwood floor. Laurie explained that the crew I had in my home was new. Anyway she said they would do whatever it took to make this right which eventually ended up being me working with her insurance company to get my carpeting replaced. More loss of time for me. But it didn't end there because the job ended up taking 2.5 weeks due to the fact that they ended up getting rid of one of the painters on my crew so I was down to one man painting in my house. But then he was committed to other jobs after my 3 days were up. And he is the one who did the first attempt at the drywall you see in the photo attached. He also used trim paint on areas of the ceiling where he had hit the ceiling with the new wall paint color. So when I looked at the ceiling from a certain angle I could see different finishes on different areas of the ceiling in my bedroom. He also left on the last day of the job without replacing any of the outlet covers, etc, that had been removed for the painting. If I were the owner of this company and I had a customer like myself who had the experience I had on the first day of that job, I would have shown up at my customer's home every day to check on that crew and that job to see how things were going. So even though Laurie would call and check in with me which was a nice gesture, she as the owner should have taken the responsibility to see that the job was being done right. The fact that I had to send another picture of the drywall and inform her that the job was not done after almost two weeks, to my satisfaction, was not acceptable. Also the kitchen ceiling had not been painted and I had to remind the young man that he needed to do that. Also had to remind him and the good crew that they still had not patched the hole near the light fixture in the ceiling that I had paid for. So eventually all the work was done but it had to be finished by the "good crew". It wasn't done exceptionally well but it is adequate. The materials used weren't exceptional. The crews were nice people. It was overall not a F job but it was barely a D. I had much higher hopes for the price I paid for this work. And if I were to add up all the time this actually cost me personally then the cost actually was a much higher cost than the actual check I cut for it especially when you consider the amount of stress and strain this experience put me under. I cannot recommend anyone use this provider unfortunately.
Description of Work: Repaired drywall that was peeling under two windows due to leaks around the windows. Repainted two bedrooms, repainted ceilings in kitchen, living room, hallway and stairway. Also recaulked two bathtubs, hung one towel bar, replaced an interior slab door and painted the new door.

We had lost one of our Lead Painters just prior to doing this job. We had a hard time to begin with trying to schedule as the customer travels frequently for her job. We hired a Lead Painter that was put on this customer's job on the first day. We took a chance, thought he was knowledgeable in his field and we were wrong. Needless to say this gentleman worked for our company for 4 days and was let go. It did in fact take us 2 1/2 weeks to complete the job right. It would have been done in 1 1/2 weeks, but again, the customer's schedule was also tight. We damaged her carpet and our insurance paid to have it replaced. The point is, in order to meet our customer's timeline, we took a chance on a new employee that was not proven to meet our company standards. Again, we were wrong. We ended up doing one more ceiling then was on the original scope and charging less for another ceiling that was on the original estimate. We made it right and paid for her carpet. I know that it was a huge inconvenience for the customer and for that I am truly sorry. In the future I think I will be quicker to push out starting dates rather than put an unproven employee on a customer's job. Thank you, Laurie Thompson-owner

The repair man was 1 hour late for the scheduled time. Of the items I wanted completed only the screen door, towel rack tightening, tub caulking and kitchen caulking were completed. This took 2 hours to accomplish. The bath tub looks just as bad as it did before the new caulk and the kitchen sink looks worse. He used clear caulk in the tub and said he couldn't get all of the old stains out. He never checked with me or asked me to clean the tub. There is excess caulk all over the kitchen sink. He didn't know how to take the exhaust cover off, so the fan could not be cleaned. He could not fix the dripping tub faucet and took the bath sink faucet apart and put it back together incorrectly. He provided estimates for the additional larger projects I was needed done. However, his explanation of the work he was going to do sounded like "short cuts". I want the job done correctly and professionally. I was very disappointed as I have used Handyman Matters before and had good out comes. Unfortunately, I will not be using them again in the future.
Description of Work: I had a list of miscellaneous items I wanted completed: caulking tub and kitchen sink, cleaning bath exhaust fan, fixing dripping tub faucet, cleaning bath sink faucet, tightening a towel rack, adjusting front screen door, and hanging blind valances. I had a couple of larger projects that needed to be done and understand they could not be done that day.

Laurie Thompson the owner contacted this customer. We sent a craftsman not ready to be on his own. The customer was very understanding. We refunded most of her money. She has agreed to let us come back the next time she has a day off. We believe we have satisfied this issue to her satisfaction. We will continue to refine our processes as to not let craftsman on their own too soon. Anytime we have a new craftsman, we have them work with a more senior craftsman so we avoid these types of situations. Obviously our training process did not work this time. We are so sorry for the inconvenience and aggravation we caused.

I was very pleased with the communication and punctuality. A lot of companies don't care to do small jobs - but I didn't get that sense here. Price range was clearly stated and acknowledged ahead of time and was reasonable. There was no big attempt to sell more services - which is exactly what I was looking for and why I didn't call a company that specializes in gutter installation. Cleaned a problem area in gutters and checked conditions of gutters - which checked out fine with no recommended additional work. Did mention other services available when asked. I will likely ask for estimates on future projects.

The painter was on time. He came to the rooms I wanted painted and said it looked like a day project to paint the two rooms. He also said I would have to take everything off the walls myself to save money, but if I left it to him and his crew it would be a day and a half. I had no problem with those instructions. THEN he asked if I had already purchased the service from Angie's list. (now on the web site it said TWO days for $499) I said no not yet, but I had the paint. When I showed him the paint , and informed him I was changing the color he said it would be a day and half project. Again that seemed reasonable. HOWEVER, when it came to the price the quote I got was $200 higher then what was on Angie's list. He said that Angie's list was just for advertising his company and Angie's List received a large amount of the cost listed on the site. For less time and bypassing Angie's List why my cost then went up $200 I had no idea and I was furious. Not only would I not use him, but I would not use Angie's List ever again

This was a complete misunderstanding. The customer misread the deal. It has never changed, it has always been 2 painters for a day for $499. I can see why she thought we were overpriced. We offered to honor the on-line deal of $499 for 1 day and charge her $700 for a day and a half. We are partially at fault for not properly explaining that our pricing did not differ at all from the deal on Angie's list.2 painters for a day for $499 is a lot different from 2 days for $499. We have never or will never offer 2 days for $499. I am so sorry we were not able to clarify at the time of the free estimate. Laurie Thompson-owner
Everything was great. Bryan was very good & we were completely satisfied with the work, timeliness, price & courtesy, UNTIL...the other service provider came to install the cabinet doors & we found out the roll-out shelves were built too wide to roll out with the doors covering them, AND...instead of the company standing behind their work & making the correction, they charged me another $167.00 to fix it!! You would think that a "craftsman" who is supposedly an expert at his job, would figure out when doing the initial install, that he'd need to leave enough room to pull the drawers out when the cabinet doors were put on. I was unhappy with having to have a re-do to finish the job, but even more unhappy with having to pay for Bryan's mistake

We do appreciate feedback of all kinds as we like to continuously improve our work. We stand by our work and always focus on providing top-notch service. When the customer called back, she let us know that the other company installed the cabinet doors and now the shelves did not roll out like they were supposed to. It was discussed if this was going to be under warranty or not, so we specifically asked if the customer 1) let the craftsman know that the doors would restrict the cabinet opening, 2) if the craftsman was given dimensions for the shelves to be installed and he did not follow them, or 3) if the craftsman was given dimensions for the the doors that the other service provider was going to install The answer to all was "No." We felt very bad for the customer as this was not a warranty project on our end. Though we cannot work for free even though we did feel bad, we did give the customer a generous 25% discount to perform further modifications to the shelving, Handyman Matters acted more than fair in this case and we are very sad that the customer feels otherwise as she was a wonderful person to work with. Thank you, Owner

Very professional. One man came to replace the drywall on the inside and the paneling on the outside, and another came the next day to paint the repaired areas. On the outside, they couldn't get the paint to match due to fading. They ended up painting the whole wall at no extra charge so it wouldn't look crappy. It was a large and complex project. We are very pleased with the working relationship we had with the company and the outcome is great. Thank you so much for the wonderful review! Your feedback means a lot to us as it relays your satisfaction with the project. Our craftsmen, office, and painters all work hard to communicate with our customers and with each other to ensure an outcome that results in happy customers. Thank you again!
Bottom line the jobs were very well done, in budget, and on time!!! Bryan Anderson was assigned to my project and I was very glad he was. The job was done smoothly and well coordinated with the sequence of work task spread across a number of days. That's not easy to do, but Bryan made it look easy. What was great was the setting of expectations, what will get done today, tomorrow the next day etc. Bryan showed up on time and he was gone on time (we had to leave in the early evening many times). If there were questions, he brought them to our attention in a considerate fashion. On one discussion regarding plumbing, he asked if the plastic pipes would be ok, I said I would rather have copper because the rest of the house was copper as well. I knew that decision would require many additional hours to put in. The cool part is he did not flinch or show any signs that he didn't want to do it that way. He just smiled and said OK. I was pleased. The job was done very well and he left me well prepared to begin the finish work. I couldn't have been more pleased with Handyman Matters and equally pleased with the help that Bryan Anderson provided. Great job. Additionally, we did have one other project where we had a doorway cut into the wall to open up our dinning room. Another crew came out for that job and completed very quickly and efficiently. Chris was very helpful in getting the job done. We had to work around some air vents in the wall that we did not anticipate. Importantly, since the job was resized downwards, so was the bid on the work naturally! That really showed truthfulness and integrity of the organization and the work crew. I very highly recommend this professional team to any home or office project you might have. I am sure you will be very satisfied as I have been!

Home owner (myself) will do the finish work. I needed someone to do the hard work that I couldn't. Also they helped us cut a new doorway into a wall and rough finished it.

We appreciate your kind review. Thank you, Laurie Thompson-owner
Overall, the project went well. We stayed on budget and schedule. The work was done on a rental property, so schedule and budget were very important to us. Bryan Anderson did a great job installing the tile and completing the final tasks to finish the kitchen out. The painters (Steve and Jason) did a great job. A couple of spots were missed and they were happy to immediately make corrections. Chris did a good job on the sheet rock repair in the kitchen and the bathroom. Laurie was great to work with - she was fair, reasonable, punctual, and responsive. The day we finished the punch list, Laurie came with Tony and he was able to immediately fix most of the issues. We appreciated having these items taken care of that day rather than having to wait. There was one item Tony could not complete, so Chris came out two days later and fixed that item. This was a large job and we appreciate how well Handyman Matters completed their tasks. We will call them again the next time we have a home improvement project.
Description of Work: Handyman Matters demolished a 1950's kitchen and installed new cabinets and appliances. They updated the electrical and the plumbing for the remodeled kitchen. They also did backsplash tile and modified the existing floor tile to fit the new cabinets. They painted multiple rooms in the home and they also painted the kitchen ceiling. Handyman Matters also did some modifications to an existing bathroom.

It was such a pleasure working with both [Member Name Removed]. There were several issues that came up, due to the age of the home. Issues were resolved quickly and effectively, mostly because of the response time of the Briggemans. I would look forward to working with them in the future. It is always nice to work with great customers and then to see the transformation of old to new. Their house looks wonderful.

As usual, the job was done right. My house is old and the wiring was a "rat nest", a large bundle of wires in a small cut out. The job was done very professional and clean.

We needed to replace a blind in a room with a big front window that required 3 blinds total. We have used Handyman Matters in the past and they are always my first call when I need something done around the house. They are always very professional and do an excellent job! Tony Bryant came out to install the new blinds and we could not be happier! The molding on the top of the window bumped up against the brackets, so Tony cut wood to fill in the top portion of the window so the blinds could be hung. It looks amazing and you cannot tell that is what he did! Tony was very polite and arrived early to the appointment. We highly recommend Handyman Matters! They are a top rate group! Ask for Tony and you'll be thrilled with the final result!
