+ -1 moreTHE ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH.
Description of Work: I purchased a unit from Jacob 2/12/2006. It broke every summer at least once for seven straight years. I eventually had the motor for the fan replaced because it would continuously freeze up. It had a slow freon leak the required replacing freon every few years. The year of the drought it broke and Jacob refused to even come out to repair it stating that he did not have time to figure out what was wrong with my unit. I was without air for 10 days. He suggested I call Goodman and explain my situation. They refused to speak with me because I was not the technician. I asked Jacob to call and he refused stating that I had exaggerated the number of repairs. I dated and documented ALL repairs. This summer I had the part replaced that had the slow freon leak and filled it with freon. (another technician found it) Today the compressor went out and cannot be repaired. I have to buy a new unit. This was very bad business.

+ -1 moreOnce upon a time in 1986 when we were new homeowners, an explosion in our 1910 boiler shook the house, blew the boiler door across the basement and cracked the fire ring. The first 3 contractors who came out said "total loss; $3000". Well, we no more had $3000 than we had $30,000. Then Jacob came out and said "oh, yeah - can fix that for you - $50". And he babied that boiler along for 20 years when we finally had it replaced. Well, we've just run into our first problem with the 'new' boiler. Sadly, Karen Heating no longer works on boilers, but Jacob remembered us(!) and gave me the phone number of a team that he trained.

+ -1 moreKaren HVAC is a great find. No $100 service charge just to come out, like all the big company's have. Very personable & knowledgeable. My central air kept blowing the breaker overnight. Called him at 715am, and he was here by 10am. Turned out the coils were crazy dirty, causing it to heat up and flip the breaker every few minutes. He cleaned the coils, not only on the unit in question, but the other one as well. Showed me how to do it myself in the future (he said yearly, very easy with just garden hose) and check everything out for a mere $76!!! I know from previous experience that big company's would have changed $275 (including the ridiculous $100 service charge). Basically a one man operation, with wife running the office, but that's the type of repair guys I like, small businesses where the owner is the one doing the work! Hard to find these days. So glad my neighbor told me about them.

Indeed that was the case, and the resolution was not entirely as easy I thought it might be. They also did some basic checks on the unit and offered some recommendations for improving the use and capacity of the air conditioner.

Primary because he didn't add lots of up sales or items that we didn't really need. He walked through the house and explained the principals of heating and cooling and explained away a lot of the extra products the other guys were selling. He was processional and very honest and was able to get started immediately.

Over the past 5 years he has performed regular maintenance and repair at my home, always with a smile. Each visit he cleans my registers throughout my Prairie Village ranch-style home, and quickly diagnoses issues with my heating/cooling system. The best part is he educates me on what he is doing so that I can quickly diagnose future/potential issues. You are truly in good hands with Jacob. I always feel like family and am positive you will too. Don't let lack of a website deter you from doing business with this family owned and operated company.

+ -1 moreThey are prompt, polite, and fairly quick. They come out when they say they would. I feel like they try to work with us. They work pretty hard to do things like we want them to be done. We have used them over the years for different things. Our experience with them has been very smooth. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: We use Karen Heating & Cooling for heating and air conditioning needs. We had used them to install a high efficiency furnace. They helped us move some heat air vents when we were doing a remodeling. We opened up a wall and they moved a vent for us.

+ -1 moreThis is a small shop HVAC company recommended by friends in which the owner Jacob Karen provides personal service. He had done service calls on our old A/C units for awhile and was able to keep them going at relatively low cost for years after other HVAC companies told us that replacement was necessary. Provided us with opportunity to economically replace all our units which were 18 years old prior to significant future cost increases in HVAC units b/o mandated new unit requirements. Likely saved a few thousand dollars in replacement cost. Replaced units in prompt efficient manner with minimum of inconvenience. Returned for minor adjustments promptly after a single call. Returned to check the A/C units in the spring prior to using w/o cost. Was amiable and professional.
Description of Work: Replaced two furnaces and two air conditioning units.

+ -1 moreThey came and inspected our heating and air conditioning systems a few weeks ago to make sure that it was functioning well. They are really easy to work with and do a really good job. They do what needs to be done to make the units work right instead of doing what is easy. They are capable of thinking through a problem until they arrive at a solution. We had an older house before moving to this one and we tried to get estimates from other people. They just drove up to our house and then just drove away. We?ve been using Karen Heating & Cooling since then. They are really honest and wouldn?t sell us things that we don?t need.

I left a message with Mrs. Karen and her husband called back within the hour. He listened to the symptoms I described and suggested that my problem was a clogged air filter. He then told me how I could check myself to see if this was the problem. I ran the check he suggested and found he was right. I solved my problem for the cost of a new filter.

He was very much not only helpful did a great job of educating us on new units. We are greatly satisfied with his work. Charges were most reasonable.
Description of Work: I had malfunctioning old two thermostats needed replacement. I also needed servicing my both A/C units. I called Jacob and found he was very reasonable and pleasant. He showed great interest in work and came and took care of the work professionally and did a great job.
