+ -1 moreWhile on paper JBID boasts an impressive list of KC references, for our specific taste and requests she appeared to struggle and did not appear altogether comfortable with the modern, progressive, clean look that we aspired. In fairness, at the outset she admitted never having heard of our look of "choice" Kelly Hoppen, so we allowed her to borrow our copy of "Kelly Hoppen Style, the golden rules of design". Regrettably, there is an insurmountable conflict of interest when your designer & GC are related,and if something goes wrong with one of them. We should have been more careful.Her ideas were Ok, but not stupendous,the installation was awful, but most disturbing was her abrupt attitude reversal towards us after rejecting her initial, outrageously inflated, "retail purchases". The relationship was then doomed. My opinion is that JBID is best suited to more formal/old world engagements. She should also distance herself from the son in-law contractor Kitt Starr: www.jococ
Description of Work: Designer (JBID) was referred to us by our general contractor Kitt Starr (Starr Homes LLC, Kitt Starr Builders). Our project consisted of hiring a designer to provide expertise on a major renovation to a >$1mm house in Hallbrook, Kansas. Before hiring JBID, the general contractor did disclose that the designer was his mother in law. JBID was paid an initial consultation fee of $6000, which according to JBID represented approximately 8.5 days design time at $90 per hour. This fee contractually represented: reviewing blueprints, plotting existing furniture, and selecting: cabinet styles (Pedini), materials & finishes, kitchen countertops and sink, hardware, lighting, plumbing fixtures, tile, window treatment and wall finishes/colors. Further compensation to JBID came through retail purchases from her company.
