I reached out to this company on October 26. I then followed up a few days later after not hearing back. The gentleman I spoke with did immediately go to our house to take a look but never got back to me (it's a rental house), so I again had to check back in. A day later, he responded, told me the issue, gave me a quote and said, "If you let me know, I can probably get it done later today." I gave him the green light and told him to invoice me. My renter called me on December 4 asking when the garage door would be fixed! That's over a MONTH after the man I spoke with at this company said he'd go fix our issue! Not only did they not show up that day, but he didn't show up at any time or even bother to call me back. I called him on December 4 to ask what was going on. He seemed confused by who I was. I explained the whole history and told him to look at the text messages on his phone between us. Even after explaining what had happened, he never once apologized. Instead, he said he'd look at his records when he got back to his office and would call me. That was yesterday morning. He never called me. I called and texted him this morning. Radio silence. I finally left him a message that we are taking our business elsewhere. I don't know how this company has such great reviews if this is how they treat customers. I agreed to the price, gave him my information to invoice me, and spent a lot of my time trying to follow-up with him to no avail. It was an incredibly frustrating process.

I called the office to see about Free State providing service, to replace a garage door. I was told they would call next week. Received no call that week, so called the company. They said perhaps next week they could do the work. Called again today which is the 3rd call made, as we were expecting a call last week. Respondent said "maybe we can do that work late next week." I consider responsiveness poor, based on the interaction we had with this company, so I declined services with this company.

They were very prompt and professional. The guy who installed the openers was very knowledgeable and was helpful when answering questions and showing me how to use the new hardware.

Great. With even with such a small purchase, the service was excellent. Free State personally dropped off the spring at my office the day after ordering. I would not hesitate to call them for more significant work.

They did a good job of matching the panels w/ the existing ones, and the installation and alignment seems outstanding. But I had to take two days off of work, and they didn't show up or even call either day. When I tried calling them, I had trouble getting through their phone system. The trouble was that when they got the panels in, they weren't insulated, so they had to order the insulation and delay installation. They finally sent someone out on a Sunday morning to finish the job, but I wish the communication had been better, or if there had been a discount for the trouble. It was still cheaper than new double and single garage doors.
Description of Work: We needed a few new garage panels to replace ones that were dented (on 20-year-old doors), plus some broken hinges replaced. We didn't want to buy whole new doors because we had just moved into the house and had other expensive projects to do as well.

I called Free State Doors late am on Friday the 26th. They had someone at my home to assess the problem within 90 minutes. It was determined that we needed a new opener and scheduled the install for Monday. Not too much time had passed when they called back saying there had been a cancellation and that they could install the opener that afternoon. We had a new garage door opener, key pad, and two remotes by 4pm. Everyone we spoke with at Free State Doors was courteous, prompt, and professional.

They were excellent. They had just two employees come at a time. It was about a day and a half job, they had to remove the old one then install the new one. They will go above and beyond. They noticed my backyard gate was sticking they fixed it. They balanced the door so it could be opened manually so the electrician could come in and do his part.

They didn't charge me for the Saturday morning trip where they just showed me how to open the door. When they came on Monday morning, they were quick and professional, and showed me how/where to oil the hinges to keep the door opening smoothly.
Description of Work: My garage door broke on a Saturday. I called Free State's after hours line. They promptly called me back, said they were already in the neighborhood, and came by to show me how to safely manually open the garage door for the weekend. Then we set up an appointment for Monday morning. They came, and had the door fixed in 30 minutes.

They set up a generic time to come and look at the problem and called when they were on their way. Said to repair our ailing garage door opener it would be around $150 or so and couldn't guarantee the work. They said our opener gear was "burnt out." It had started smoking on me when I was messing with it after the chain stopped moving when I pressed the button to raise/lower the door. I elected to replace the opener for $325, especially because this door had no auto sensors near the bottom for objects, etc. With a kid on the way and pets I wanted one on both doors. They had a Liftmaster opener with them in the truck as they figured this was the likely outcome when I described the problem on the phone. Not really any pushy sell on the new opener. They are quick and efficient and were courteous. Took maybe an hour and a half to replace the opener. I wish the keypad was included even if it wasn't "standard," as I found some cheaper ones online than the $45, but that's alright. I would definitely use them again and recommend. Thanks for your service.
Description of Work: Replaced my garage door opener (single-door) with a Liftmaster opener. Included sensors and button. With this kind of opener they had to add on a keypad to replace our current one, which they charged $45 for (included in the $370 above).

Service provider came over promptly to look at the problem and said he would check his stock of springs and call us back. We waited a day and when we didn't get a response, we called him. He said he tried to call us, but we didn't have a message. He came over very promptly and fixed the door. When looking at the invoice, we realized that our contact number was wrong. So the provider did try to call us, but had the wrong number. In the end, it wasn't that big of a deal--he provided the services at what we considered a good price. We would use this company again.

We got an estimate in late October, decided on options, and about two weeks later ordered the doors. In about three weeks, they called the day they were ready to hang the doors. The guys were done a little over two hours after arriving. They did great work, were respectful and gave us advice about how to maintain the doors. They did say they would follow up in a week, but haven't. Six-month follow-up: A month after the door was installed, it had trouble opening...just like our previous door. So they didn't fix the problem, even though we have a beautiful new door. I tried to explain to them that we still had a problem, but they didn't seem to understand, and kept saying "the door and the opener are two different systems." I realize that, but when I call for help in getting my garage door open, I need help with the system, not just components. Anyway, we asked for someone to come over and diagnose the actual problem, which turned out to be one of the sensors. They came over unannounced, replaced them, and never told us. A few weeks later we got a bill for $160. When I called to address this ninja-fix, they didn't understand why I was annoyed with the situation. Eventually, I was given a partial refund. Now that Spring is here, we painted the doors and replaced the trim...except one piece of trim was missing - the large strip above the double-size door. I dropped by to see if I could pick it up, and they didn't have it, but said they would get one to me later that week. The week came and went, and nothing happened. So I went by again, they took my information again, and said they would be by with it in a couple of days. Nothing, again. My wife called in, and they seemed to have no recollection of my request. So she tried to set up another drop-off. They said that they would call her the next day (yesterday) to schedule the drop-off. No call; still waiting, but you get the idea. UPDATE: They came by about a week later after another call. Did a lot of work for free, and did a decent job. Needless to say, they do great with hardware, but their communication and customer service need a ton of work.

It went fine. Door works now.
Description of Work: We had a problem with a sticking garage door. It turned out to be an electrical problem with a loose wire. He was able to fix it, but I feel a little disheartened that I paid $70 for literally 20 seconds worth of work. That's not the way you get repeat business or a good recommendation.

Response from Free State Doors Inc
Mr (member name removed) called for a service call about a problem with door , we were there with in 2 hours and resolved problem after trying to tell him how to fix it himself over the phone , Mr (member name removed) had bumped his safety photo beams some how and knocked them out of line , our normal service call is $87.00 . We were there a very short time , but cheaper then electrician ($125.) Freestate Doors Cost just to go out to a job cost us between $50.00 and $60.00 dollars.( Trucks, tools, Insurance, overhead, payroll and taxes) I am sorry about his dissatisfaction ,but happy we were able to fix his door. Some people just can't be satisfied. If Mr (member name removed) would of contacted us, we would of been happy to adjust his bill to his satisfaction, but some people have trouble complaining face to face. But please see our other reviews, you will notice that we go up and beyond customer satisfaction. Scott Weatherwax President Freestate Doors Inc

I had been struggling with a glitchy garage door for months and it finally gave up the ghost. Three rollers out of commission on a catty-wampus ancient wood garage door. I'd put off getting anyone out because last time I called someone, all I got was a hard sell on a new garage door, which is not in my budget. I called Free State Doors on the recommendation of a friend (and after checking Angie's List, of course) and was so pleased with the quick response, pragmatic advice, and competent repair. They came out the day I called and said they could fit me in earlier if it was an emergency (it wasn't). This company is now on my go-to list for repairs. Couldn't be happier.

They are incredible! I used to use a different company, but they charged me about 4 times what they should have for a garage door opener. I stopped using them and started using Free State, and they came out, were so responsive, so professional, etc. I had never even purchased anything from them previously, but just used them for service calls. Then, last time they came out, I purchased a new garage dor from them. They are reliable, reasonable, and I feel like I can trust them.
