About us

The heart and soul of our company is our year round garden center, conveniently located on Highway 54 in La Harpe, KS. Inside our doors, you will find everything you need for a successful gardening season. Garden seed, onions, and potatoes start filling the bins in early spring, ready to be taken home by the next eager gardener. TLC carries a fine selection of chemicals and amendments to help your garden along. Also inside is our gift shop full of garden accessories, fountains, and pottery of all shapes, sizes, and colors, ready to be filled with the perfect plants from our greenhouses. Outside you will find a wide array of shade trees, fruit trees, and shrubs. Once in the greenhouse, you will be welcomed with a rainbow of colorful annuals, hanging baskets and perennials. The majority of our vegetables are started by us from seed and we are proud to have the best plants around. Our concrete pathways and carts make shopping a breeze and our helpful staff will assist you if any questions or needs arise. TLC also has bulk landscape materials such as topsoil, mulch, and river rock. These items can either be loaded into your truck or delivered directly to your project for a small fee. One of our favorite times of the year is autumn, with the cooler weather and beautiful fall foliage. TLC has fall garden mums in variety of colors and sizes, along with pansies, flowering kale, spring bulbs, and garden vegetable seed. In the winter, TLC becomes a Christmas wonderland, full of fresh cut Christmas trees, wreaths and dazzling Christmas decorations and gifts throughout our gift shop.

Got an estimate and date to start....was at least a month and a half before started. Had to call three times. Each time promised would start next day but never did. Finally showed up worked maybe three hours...grading...graded up gravel and just left them, and adding soil...very little soil. Didn't bother to try and cover gravel with topsoil!! The topsoil was wet when they put it down so had a muddy yard for three weeks. I will say it did rain some in that time but still had to call them to come and put down the fertilizer and fescue. Finally did show up and left. Nothing was said about how to care for it so another call to them on how to care for it. Water every night for thirty minutes.....very little came up in spots. My yard looks worse than it did before they came over! Very unhappy! Would NOT recommend them to anyone!

[member name removed], I am sorry you have been disappointed in our service. We try to offer the best service and products to all of our customers. I talked to our landscape foreman about your issues. This spring was an incredibly long, cold spring. It actually snowed at the beginning of May. All of our projects kept getting moved back because of the unpredictable weather. When it did begin to warm up, it started raining constantly, with very few dry days in between. Even though it may not be raining one day, usually it takes several days, maybe even up to a week, for soil to dry out enough to work nicely. We did the best we could to accommodate all our customers, as they were all affected by the weather. When you originally talked to us, the bid was just to do the front of your lawn. While on site giving you your bid, you decided to add the easement between the sidewalk and street, and we did that area for free. You were concerned about price, so we did it as best we could for the money spent. Yes, we could have excavated and removed the existing soil and add new topsoil, but that would have greatly increased the price. So we did what we could to till the existing soil and add some topsoil to help cover the tree stubs, which seemed to be your main concern. I admit, our crew did forget to seed the side (which was also free) the first time they came by and seeded the main area, but we went back and did it as soon as we realized the mistake the next day. The grass did come up, as we drove by several times later on, but we don't believe you kept it watered long enough or well enough to become established and it wound up dying out when the heat hit a few weeks later. It is extremely difficult to tell someone exactly how much to water, as so many things can affect the amount of water needed (i.e. rain, cloud cover, wind, etc.) Our foreman told you it needed to be kept moist, which is about as accurate as you can get when you seed new lawn areas. I do wish you would have contacted us after the fact if you were this disappointed with our service, so that the issues could be resolved in a timely manner.
