I called them yesterday and they came out today and were able to remove the mirror and put a new ledge under it to hold it up. They were very professional and knew exactly what they were doing and I was very pleased. I would use them agian and would also recommend them to anyone who needs mirror work.

Same day service within an hour of calling. I was told to send pictures for an exact quote which was nice since it eliminated surprises. The worker was very friendly, efficient, and professional. He also took his time to make sure everything was installed correctly.

We walked in an a Saturday morning and had the backsplashes cut while we waited, then ordered the round glass . We picked up the round glass table top 1 week later. The owner, Bob, helped us while entertaining us with stories - great fun and good work. He also offered practical insight and make good suggestions on howw to accomplish our goals. The glass cost a bit more than we'd planned, but it looks great and was only a small part of the overall kitchen costs.
Description of Work: 1. cut to size and polished edges of two textured glass panels - 66x15in and 41x3in - which I then installed as a stove and a sink backsplash in our renovated kitchen for 200 dollars, and 2. cut/polished a 42in dia. x 1/4in thick glass sheet to cover a round wooden table in that kitchen for 150 dollars

Westport Glass was very professional and easy to work with. I set up the appointment online explaining the issue and sending a picture of the hinges. The serviceman came on time, installed the hinges, and left everything clean. A very satisfactory experience.

They were pretty good, however they did show up at the least opportune times. They very quickly measured, cut, and installed the glass. The only issue was with the scheduling for the appointments. I wasn't responsible for the cost of the job, but I handled arranging the estimates. They beat all of their competition by a mile.

The final result is even better than we had expected, and we had expected it to go well. The materials are of high quality, the installation was done on schedule, promptly, and with no complications. They also cleaned up after themselves very well. We were very pleased that our ideas had been so well transformed into glass and chrome. It seemed to take so little effort on our part to have them understand what we wanted fabricated and what overall effect we wanted to achieve. The mirror was a far from standard size and shape -- a somewhat elongated rectangle with double-beveled edging. Here, again, both the fabrication and installation were first-rate. Since the bathroom walls are marble, any mistake on the part of our suppliers could have caused a very big problem. Instead. we got excellent results all the way along. Bob was an excellent person with whom to work, and we recommend him and his staff enthusiastically.
Description of Work: Fabricated frameless shower wall and door with 1/2" thick, clear tempered glass with chrome hardware. Custom make a 1/4" mirror with 2" bevel overlay. Worked with us to be sure that "translating" our concept into something that would work well, while fitting into the design and style of our bathroom remodel. Very quickly, our design was turned into specifications. Then the fabrication and installation proceeded.

The appt for estimating our work was on Wed., 11/7/13, between 8:30-9:00am. The estimator was late, but called to let me know he was in traffic. Once he got there, he brought in a tool on a tripod, but did not use it. I explained what we wanted done regarding the custom shower doors and mirrors. He wrote down notes on a file folder as he took measurements with his tape measure. I made sure he had my contact information - name, home and cell phone telephone numbers, email address. He said my estimate would be coming via email. Two weeks later, I called Westport Glass and told the person on the phone that I had not heard back from them with an estimate. The guy on the phone asked for my name and telephone and said he would talk to the estimator and call back. It is now 12/4/13, and I have heard NOTHING from Westport Glass. We won't be using Westport Glass for any of our glass and mirror needs and will not be recommending them to anyone.
Description of Work: I contacted Westport Glass for an estimate on 2 custom shower doors and 2 custom mirrors. I also asked for estimates on re-using the old mirrors and disposal of 1 large mirror.

Response from WESTPORT GLASS CO
I have several problems with [member name removed] comments: Normally, I associate the name [member name removed] with a male person. Our representative met with a female, and the person who contacted Westport Glass by telephone on two occasions was a female. If [member name removed] is in fact a male, and was not at the appointment or on any of the phone calls, why does he claim he was there? In other words, everything he is saying in this “review” is coming from second hand information. The tool our representative carried in on a tripod was a laser used for measuring. Unfortunately, the bathrooms in the house were under construction and nowhere near completion, so it was impossible for our representative to take a final measurement on anything. The showers "[member name removed]" mentions were custom units. As such, many of the parts had to be quoted by our suppliers. It takes suppliers time to get these quotes back to us. This was explained to the individual our representative met at the job site. They would get their estimate after we got our quotes back. If “[member name removed]” had checked the e-mail address that was given to our representative, he would have found an estimate from us on November 18th. Hopefully, he did not experience the all-too-common issue of a spam filter preventing him from receiving an e-mail generated by a third party invoicing system and sent from an unfamiliar e-mail domain in his Inbox. It's unfortunate Angie's List doesn't have a venue for contractors to rate customers. Why am I bringing this up? The [member name removed] residence had no electricity in the rooms our representative had to go into. Also, there was construction debris everywhere, posing a dangerous hazard for our worker. He was forced to try and take measurements using his cell phone as the only lighting source. It’s unfortunate that “[member name removed]” did not take any of that into consideration before visiting Angie’s List to write a libelous review in an attempt to cause irreparable damage to our company’s reputation. Finally, it’s important to point out that NO WORK WAS PERFORMED by Westport Glass for the [member name removed]. We have been in business for over 67 years and take great pride in the work that we do and service we provide. That would not be possible if we conducted our business in the manner expressed by “[member name removed].” We invite you to read all other reviews where work was actually performed, and you'll see why we've been in business for as long as we have. Unfortunately, we are now stuck with this “F” rating simply because the [member name removed] did not receive our e-mail and chose not to return our phone calls. We welcome all feedback – positive or critical – but have very little patience for outright dishonesty. Thank you for allowing us to express our side of this issue.

My experience with Westport Glass & Mirror was what I'd call a little odd to say the least. I'd hate to give a company a 'fail' but fail they did at responding to my simple inquiries. Originally, I was referred by a handy-man scheduled to do some work on my home that this was one of the companies he and some colleagues frequently recommended for shower doors so I thought I'd look into them as well. First, I checked their website where they offered an on-line quote if you provided them with the necessary information. I filled out and submitted their on-line form but never heard back. The store, conveniently located close to downtown, was not out of my way, so I thought I'd personally visit their show room. When I walked in there wasn't anyone readily available to help customers that I could see. Finally a gentleman from the shop/work area who saw me wondering the show room asked if I needed help and was kind enough to find someone to assist me. The person he found however, did not seem interested in showing me options from the show room but instead wanted to have someone call me with a quote over the phone. He took my information and told me someone would be in contact. Since no one responded to my e-mail request, I was not confident I'd hear from anyone this time either. (It's not uncommon for some companies to be friendlier towards contractors than individuals who may only purchase from them once.) Some one did call though. He gave me a quote over the phone and then told me he'd contact me in two days to come out and measure. I never heard from him and quite honestly, I wasn't surprised. I did find value in wondering through their show room alone however. I actually have two bathrooms I'm looking at remodeling and their show room was full of some interesting and innovating ideas I would have not thought of otherwise. I am not buying my first door from Westport Glass & Mirror and chances are slim I'm going to buy the second one there either. As a person who has spent his entire adult life in the customer service industry, I've come to appreciate and value good customer service and, at least for me, Westport Glass & Mirror had three different chances and failed each time.
Description of Work: I wanted a quote on replacing my shower door with a new, more contemporary looking one. Member Response I accept your apologies for insinuating I'm a liar and a dead beat . . . As someone who has spent HIS entire adult life in customer service, I can also appreciate how occasionally a customer can 'slip through the cracks' as you put it. Regrettably, you then proceeded to question my legitimacy as well as my honesty and motives which has led me to clarify. An assumption was made that our membership could not belong to a couple - having the membership in a 'gender specific' name while it was the other who did the shopping. Another reason it would be likely we'd have more than one e-mail address. Additionally, there would be no reason for us to 'retaliate' for a lien filing if we chose to do business with a different company for what now appears to be obvious reason. I did notice all of your other member reviews were quite positive. This is one reason I held this review in my draft for some time. I did not want to be overly harsh in my assessed (apparently I was not.) I released it at the same time I made positive reviews for a number of other companies which I did hire over the past few months. ( Feel free to check my Member Review Histogram). I also took the time to mention how I enjoyed your showroom and the graciousness of the gentleman in the work-room area who helped me find assistance. As you wrote, your employees are specialized, there's no reason for me to doubt those who do the installation are greatly qualified in what they do. Members who have bothered to read this far please note: My review was for the customer service aspect of trying yo get a quote only. NOT work done. I based my review on three different, specific customer service points of contact which I had generously characterized as 'odd' . . . I believe the retaliatory response to my review illustrates my original assessment perfectly!

Response from WESTPORT GLASS CO
After having reviewed our email records we did not find any record of this person ever emailing us a quote request, we are not doubting that she sent an email we just do not show any records of ever having received one from her, and our records of email quote requests date back to 2008. As for the person in the work area that got her information so that we could get her a quote he did exactly what he was supposed to do. We are a small company that employs various skill sets to acheive versatility and flexibility, our employees are each highly trained in their respective fields, some are glazers, some shower installers, others are glass cutters etc...I can only assume that on the day in question the shower estimator was out in the field therefore as the poster commented we took her information and called her. She stated that she did get a verbal quote at which time we would have waited to hear from the customer as to whether or not they would like to proceed at which time we then make an appointment to go get accurate field measurements, we do not make a practice out of giving out a verbal quote, then setting an appointment to go measure and give another estimate. If the customer did say she wanted to proceed then we do everything in our power to not lose that sale. I am curious though as this poster is represented by a female name at the top, and later in the same post the poster states"as a person who has spent HIS entire adult life..." Which seems a little suspect. I cannot deny that with as much business as we do that occasionally a customers needs might slip through the cracks, we do everything in our power to make sure that does not happen, The timing of this post also seems a little off. If you look at our history on angies list you can see our grades are impeccable, after having some issues trying to collect money from some of our clients this past week, some involving having to file mechanics liens I wonder if this is an attempt to retalliate. If all of this took place in august of this year why wait until November to complain? If this is a legitimate post that I am responding to then I offer our humble and most sincere apologies and would like the chance to prove how good we are.

I was very pleased with the service. The fact they had glass they could cut to fit made this a one lunch project.
Description of Work: I called for an estimate to place glass into a window frame. After they looked at what I wanted and measured the opening he was able to do the job right there. The glass was installed in a very short time.I expected two visits an estimate and then an install, but they were able to do everything in one visit.

I needed to schedule an appointment for an estimate in the evening so I didn't have to miss work. Bob was willing to do that and was prompt. Bob measured our newly remodeled bathroom shower with a laser. He provided suggestions for the type of header/trim since we wanted a clean/modern look. Bob explained the process and how long to expect before the glass is ready for installation. I called for an installation appointment the day Bob said the glass would be ready. He informed the glass would be in the next day and was actually able to set an installation appointment in the afternoon. The installers were on time and installed the glass in 4 hours, the time promised by Bob. The shower glass is perfect! I also know that Bob stands behind his product and installation. Westport Glass comes highly recommended.

Westport Glass & Mirror came through for us in a tight spot. We'd ordered 5 interior doors from a door shop and wanted one of them, a closet door, to have a mirror on the outside. At the suggestion of the lady at the door store, we stopped by Kryger Glass the same day; we were told they could do the job and were given a sample of the mirror they'd use. However, when the doors arrived and were scheduled for installation, we learned the person we'd spoken to at Kryger Glass was no longer there and the shop had no interest in the job. A few minutes later, I called Westport Glass & Mirror and was instantly reassured that this was something they had experience in and that the owner, Bob Dugan, would call me about the details. Bob called around 6 pm that evening and I explained the situation. He was extremely helpful and agreed to pick up the door at our house the next day . When he saw the door, there was another problem: the molding around the interior panel where the mirror would go was only 1/8" thick, and he recommended against installing a mirror of that thickness because of strength and stability issues. When we visited his shop, he showed us various samples, explained the pros and cons, and eventually hit on a solution. Plus, he delivered the completed door the evening before installation, so that occurred without a hitch. We were extremely impressed with Bob's knowledge and can-do attitude.
Description of Work: Westport Glass & Mirror installed a 15" x 65" mirror on the outside of a closet door.

I think it is a AAA company. They are very reliable. They do all of of their own work. They are very responsible. They are there exactly when they say they will be there. We have had them do other projects and they did a very good job every single time. Some of the work that they did was very intricate.
