After we selected our granite using the store sample, my wife saw the whole slab at the supplier and realized it wouldn't work in our kitchen. We called the NFM salesman and he said we could change the order to what works. We picked out another slab and called NFM to check if it was within the price range and the NFM salesman said it was okay for us to proceed. When we got the final bid from NFM - the materials costs were over $600 higher. We tried to negotiate but ended up canceling our order because of lack of communication between NFM and their partners.

They never showed up, never called, and didn't care when I called to find out what happened. In a word, horribly. I ended up cancelling the order, after waiting six weeks for the couch to come in. The person I talked to was "very happy to cancel that order" for me but didn't give one good **** about rectifying their screw up. I was given the standard insincere apology and lame excuse that the drivers were "running behind schedule". two-three hours behind, which, barring an accident, is inexcusable. I cancelled the order. I am a long-tie customer of nfm but WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN GIVEN THE DESPICABLE AND INDIFFERENT WAY I WAS TREATED OVER THIS ISSUE. NOTE: CUSTOMERS DON'T WANT LAME EXCUSES AND APOLOGIES FOR YOUR DELIVERY ISSUES; THEY WANT WHAT THEY PAY FOR, WHEN THEY PAY FOR IT. IN OTHER WORDS, DO YOUR JOB!

The responsiveness wasn't too good there. The second time we went for the refrigerator, there were a lot of salesmen on the floor but nobody came to help us, someone had to come from another area because I was standing there, to help us, I would say that was not too good. All of it was pretty much a good experience, quick service, quick delivery, professional delivery, come in as quickly as they can, get your services, get you what you asked for, so I would say, overall it was really good, I really like the Nebraska Furniture Mart.

You have to hunt down a person to help you in the store. Some sales people are knowledgeable, so are not. Delivery was fast and on time. They called me to tell me they cracked my bed during delivery. They brought the bed out anyway and set it up. I never saw the crack. Then someone came out 3-4 days later to replace the bed. He couldn't find a crack either so he didn't replace it. Very confusing on what actually happened.

So so. First batch had a bad backing. Took a long time to get an inspector out to officially verify what was very obvious. Then it took longer for the new run to be ready for installation. This involved two days of missed work, instead of one...
Description of Work: We bought Karastan carpeting from them and they installed it. First batch had a problem with the carpet backing, causing the carpet seams to be very visible. We waited a month for the second run to come out; again, had to prep the house for carpet install. The carpeting is beautiful and thick. We really like it. What we didn't like was the waiting. We first purchased the carpet in May and the job wasn't fully satisfied until late October. My husband found a $1,700 mistake in our favor with their billing. I can't fault the installation crew - same guys did both jobs and were professional and courteous. We are happy with our new carpet now, but the whole job felt like an ordeal at times. Know that when you get new carpeting there will be quite a bit of prep work on your part to make sure your home is ready for them to come in and begin installation. Next time, we'll go with a company whose sole purpose is to sell and install carpeting. We did get a good deal from NFM, but in hindsight we may have been able to do just as well with a carpet outfit.

It's a good thing we bought the warranty cause that's all it does is go out on us. They were good. It's the product that wasn't. They installed it in free. They were beautiful at getting it all in and set up. I would buy from them in the future. Salesman seemed to know his product. I guess we just got one of the bad apples.

the saleslady in the appliance dept. convinced me that the GE washer was extremely quiet. also the GE dryer with the stainless steel drum would be hotter and dry clothes quicker. both statements were not true. the dryer also made loud noises and when the GE repairman came out, he stuck his foot into the dryer and kicked the back of it....saying the back was cheap and a common problem. believe it or not, that kick fixed the dryer noise, but we went into shock! i also had to have a GE repairman out 3 times for the washer and it finally broke down for good in 2014 (6 years old). she promised me that the dryer door could open from the left instead of the right, they would switch the door before deliver. they did not do that. the GE frig i bought has been terrible too and amazing that it still works, constantly makes loud noises. i have also had a repairman out for the frig 3 times. in the freezer, the shelves have shrunk or the freezer walls expanded because the shelves are constantly falling down. the ice maker is not the best either. it was the saleslady who convinced me to buy GE. i am not happy with GE or with Nebraska Furniture for pushing lousy products on me. when NFM delivered the frig, it had a small but noticeable dent at the bottom. when i called to complain about the dryer door and the frig dent....NFM rep was rude on the phone and said it would be another week to switch out the frig and the dryer door could not be switched after all. i asked for monetary compensation instead since i did not want to be without a frig and was just upset over the lie about the dryer door. we agreed on gift certificates which never came in the mail. i made another phone call and the gift card was promised again. one month later, nothing in the mail. i finally had to drive there, in person, and talk to a manager. and again, she could not help me right there and then, but finally did send me the re-imbursement 2 weeks later. so i was stuck with a gift card meaning i had to shop there again to use it up. i bought some needed furniture but one of the pieces arrived damaged and had to be taken back. they did not replace it, they repaired it and then re-delivered the same piece. when we were looking at furniture and trying to decide what to buy, the salesman said he would be right back but never did come back. since they work on commission, we figured he found someone else to help!!! it did not take us long to decide on our purchases at all so we could not even figure out why he left us to begin with. and then we had to find someone else which was impossible since it was a saturday and they were extremely busy. we wasted a lot of time that day. the last time i went to NFM was in january 2009 and i plan on never going back. i will also never buy any GE appliances again. ii go to Factory Direct now where salespeople really know what they are talking about and the service and delivery is excellent.

I had found a sofa set I liked at a different store. On the off chance before ordering, I checked Nebraska Furniture Mart. They carried the same sofa, chairs and ottoman by the same manufacturer. I selected the fabrics for the sofa and chairs, then an accent fabric for the ottoman and sofa pillows. I special ordered the set (over $500 in savings even with custom ordered fabrics and delivery charge). Unfortunately when it was delivered the silver nailhead detail was missing. I contacted the salesperson with whom I had worked. She remembered working with me and checked the order. They had to reorder the sofa because there was no easy way to fix. However I kept the existing sofa and chairs until the new set was available. When the new set was completed, they delivered it and swapped with the existing set so we weren't really inconvenienced. Someone probably got a great deal on the incorrect sofa and chairs as it really hadn't been used. While it was a little disappointing about the mistake, it was easily rectified and other than arranging the date/time for the replacement delivery it wasn't that much hassle. I love Nebraska Furniture Mart's stuff and particularly their prices. We've purchased a number of other things from them and have been very satisfied. They even had a better price on the same model of printer than the big box electronics store. Also, if you are a Berkshire Hathaway stockholder like me, don't forget to ask for your 5% stockholder discount. It really adds up on large purchases!

I am very pleasantly surprised by the whole transaction with Nebraska Furniture Mart. My husband and I had gotten estimates from multiple companies for carpet. We went to NFM at the beginning of August when they were having a sale. The sales woman, unfortunately can't remember her name, was very helpful. She helped us understand the differences and strengths between different types of carpet. We ended up going with a Karastan with a 9lb pad. They came to measure later that week, and then they had to order the carpet in. My father-in-law was helping us with some upgrades to our home and NFM worked with him to schedule an install when he would still be in town. The installers were on time, professional, and did a fantastic job. Absolutely no complaints. Everything looks fantastic and feels fantastic under our feet. Will definitely use them again when we replace the carpet in the basement.

The store has locations all over and they do a lot of shipping anyway. It is a big company. The dryer is fine, but the people they had three young guys to do the installation and they did a terrible job. It is a state of the art dryer and it is supposed to have a wrinkling system. Well, they have a water set-up, even though it is a dryer, because it gives some steam to get the wrinkles out of the clothes. They did not hook that up so they had to come back and do it. The dryer was a Japanese brand and it was alright but I had to call the store to send somebody else out to do what those three young guys did not do. Later on I had a plumber here in the basement and he was looking. I said I don't know what that is there and it turned out all the lint from my machine was going on the floor instead of up through the vent. It was those same guys; they did not hook it up right. So I have let them know they need to be careful who to send to set things up. There is nothing wrong with the product, it is the person they had to set it up. The dryer was kind of expensive. I let them know I was not pleased with the three people they sent out. If I bought anything from them again I would just say I want you to be very careful because I have had a bad experience and be upfront. I checked around and their price was great. It is a good product. They need to accept responsibility for who they allow to set it up. They did send somebody out to correct the problem.

My husband and I purchased a coffee table, three end tables, a side table, and a sofa table from NFM June 30, 2013 that was manufactured by Broyhill Industries. The entire purchase was a little over $2,000. Less than a year later, they began splitting on the edges and down the middle in several places. We contacted NFM and they sent out a furniture specialist to look at them. He told us that they were seasonal splits and that there was nothing that could be done to repair them and that they would just continue to split up. NFM replaced them with the same style by the same manufacturer in April 2014. Less than a year later, the new tables began doing the same thing. I contacted NFM today about the splitting and spoke with 4 different people in customer service, including 2 supervisors and they all told me that they go by the original purchase date and not the replacement date, and since it had been almost two years ago they would not refund or replace the furniture. I asked them why, since I had only had the newer furniture for less than a year, and the stickers on the furniture indicated that they had been made a few months earlier from when they were replaced in 2014. They said that they go by their manufacturer policy, which is that furniture is replaced within the first year, and after the first year, regardless of whether its been replaced with newer furniture, they go by the original purchase date. After that, there's nothing they will do. I asked them how they could replace defective furniture with defective furniture, and then stand by their manufacturers and their policies and not their customers when they sell them defective furniture. It is absolutely not right that they can do this to their customers. We've had this new set of furniture less than a year, and now it is basically worthless. Their only offer was "Special Pricing" on new tables. I shouldn't have to spend more money because they refuse to make this right. To me, that was insulting. I am absolutely livid about this whole ordeal! This is completely unacceptable! BUYER BEWARE!! It is apparent to me that NFM will stand by their manufacturers and their policies, but not their customers!! We had always enjoyed going to NFM to shop, but we are NEVER setting foot in that store again! I'm canceling our credit with them and we are washing our hands of that company!

As the addition to my home got further behind schedule, I called NFM 4 times to push back the delivery of the appliances. Each time I asked if the delay would be an issue and I was assured that there would be no problem with holding the items until I was ready. On the 5th call I informed NFM that my contractor had walked off the job and that I was in the process of hiring a new contractor to finish the addition. I asked if I could just put a hold on the delivery of the product and that I would call with a delivery date when I was ready for the items. I estimated the time frame to be sometime in January and asked if there would be any problem holding my appliances until then. I said that if need be, I could have the appliances delivered and stored in my garage. Again I was assured that there would be no problem holding my items until I was ready for them. On January 9, 2015 I called and said that I was ready to have my appliances delivered and asked for a delivery date of Jan. 19th. I was told that NFM had my stove and vent hood but that my dishwasher would not be available for deliver until some time in February. I asked how the appliance that I had paid for in full and was repeatedly told was in stock and would be held for me was no longer in the warehouse. I was told that the item was on a manufacturer's backorder and that because I had not specifically asked for my items to be put on a special hold, the product remained in the main warehouse, available for delivery for any other orders that may come in for the item. Because the item was on mfg backorder the warehouse stock had been sold out and I had to wait until a new shipment arrived before I could take delivery on the dishwasher. I explained that I had spoken to NFM on at least 6 different occasions concerning this order and not one time did anyone tell me that I needed to place a special hold on my items to ensure that they would be in stock when I was ready for them. The rep that I spoke with said that he would contact the salesman that sold me the appliances to see if there was a comparable item that could be substituted for the backordered item and that he would call me back. This was on Jan. 9th. I waited until 13th for the call back, which I never received. I called NFM again and spoke with another C/S rep, explaining my concerns about my order. She searched for a substitute item but only came up with lower quality products. I did my own search and found the same dishwasher in SS (my order was for a black one) and for the same dishwasher with the door handle and the controls located in a different place on the machine. Both items were more expensive than the one I had ordered. I asked if there was anything they could do about the price. She said that she would check with her supervisor as soon as he got out of a meeting and call me back. I waited 24 hours but never got the call back. I called her back the next day, got her voicemail and left her a message. She returned my call a few hours later and said that her supervisor would lower the price on SS unit but could not match the price I had paid for the backordered unit. (The supervisor was not willing to work on the price of the other comparable unit because it was temporarily out of stock, although it was due in on Jan. 18th.) I was not willing to pay more money for a dishwasher that was not what I really wanted, so I am stuck waiting for the unit I ordered to come off of backorder. I am disappointed in NFM for several reasons. First, if I was required to put a special hold on my items to ensure that they would be in stock when I was ready for them, I should have been told this. To mention this for the first time only when it becomes apparent that there is an issue with my order is unacceptable. Second, I felt the customer service I received was lacking. There was no concern shown for the problems this had created for me (I had plumbers/electricians/HVAC personnel scheduled for the following week to install the appliances), no effort was made to help me find a solution to the problem (I had to do the research to try to find a sub item) and not once did NFM call back when they stated they would. After 6 months of dealing with delays and problems with my addition I will finally have a finished kitchen next week - everything but a dishwasher, which I will have to wait 2 more weeks for. I am not happy with how NFM has handled this issue.
Description of Work: On Aug. 25, 2014 I purchased 3 appliances from Nebraska Furniture Mart for my new kitchen - a stove, a vent hood and a dishwasher. I paid in full for all three appliances at the time of purchase and scheduled a temporary delivery date based on the estimated completion date of the addition to my home.
