Sonny was awesome, would highly recommend him for any basement project you have. He arrived everyday in the morning and if he had to miss a day or had something come up (happened very seldom) he would let me know in advance. He kept the area very clean and organized which is a great sign of an experienced professional. After he got done taking down existing structures and right before he got started framing I asked him to completely redesign the layout of the entire basement and he did so without any hesitation. He completed the job very quickly and couldn’t be happier with the work he did. Super nice guy and made my fiancé and I very comfortable with the whole process. Can’t recommend him enough. I love supporting independent small businesses, especially when they are a master of their craft, and that’s exactly what Sonny is.

Sonny did an outstanding job on our basement finishing. His blueprint plan and recommendations excited my husband and I from day 1. He completed almost all of the work by himself and in the time frame he originally stated. We are so happy about the finished product and are throughly enjoying our new space!

Absolutely perfect! Sonny was amazing! I originally planned on finishing my basement myself, however after owning my home now for 2 years I didn't get very far and was hitting some road blocks. I reached out to Sonny to a quote and he was quick to come out and measure up our Basement. Afterwards he sat with my wife and I and gave a good breakdown of the work and costs where we both loved what we had to hear and agreed to have him perform the work. It took him roughly 2 months to fully complete the basement and it looks amazing. Not only does Sonny strive for perfection and takes a great deal of pride in his work, but also maintained great communication with us. Sonny would inform us if there was something was not possible and would provide advise where needed as well. Because of Sonny my family and I are now able to enjoy basement to its fullest! Sonny did an AMAZING job with our space! We started with a bare, concrete basement, and Sonny worked with us on the floorplan I had designed, making sure it was the best course of action, and most efficient layout before starting. He then brought in his guys to help, and they went to work. Framing, electric, plumbing, drywall install, mud & tape were all done by Sonny and his crew. We finished out the paint, doors, trim work, and flooring ourselves, as our budget didn't allow to have Sonny finish it, (thanks, COVID-19!) We had special requests that we threw at him during the project, and he was always willing to make sure that we were happy with the end result. Anyway, we are thrilled to have so much more usable space in our home now! In fact, we no longer even call it a basement. Now it's just our lower-level! I wouldn't hesitate to hire Sonny and team if we ever are in another position to finish a basement. You shouldn't either. One word of advice if you do hire him: Have all of your ducks in a row and decisions made if you can. When you hear that they work FAST, it's no joke. If you're not sure about where you want those can lights, or should I have vent here, etc....then you'd better figure it out quick, because you'll come down and check progress at the end of the day, and BAM! Whoa!....all of the electrical is done already, or all the plumbing is in. FAST. These guys only do one house at a time, so they work more efficiently than you might be used to with typical contractors. I wish all house related service companies were more like MusclesForHire.

Sonny and the Muscles For Hire crew turned the missing piece of our perfect home into a reality. They added storage shelves and framed our basement in less than 2 days, installed soundproofing to keep noise down in our new office and family room and were very flexible with the fixtures and finishing touches we asked for to close out the job. Our project was completed in approximately a month and for the price we agreed upon, and we couldn't be happier with the improvement to our home! Sonny and his team take great pride in their work and encouraged us to come down daily and check out the progress. We would definitely hire Sonny again and have already referred him to friends and neighbors. You won't be disappointed with your choice to hire Muscles for Hire!

It was completed to the point we agreed too on time. He used nice materials and helped turn a dream to reality. They set up well as they could to keep the construction mess and dust as minimal as possible. There were parts I thought I could do however he did the so much better that I am glad he just did it. He even did pocket doors to help save space and put in soundproofing.

Sonny Norris is amazing! Not only did he deliver everything he promised us, on budget and on time, we felt like he became part of our family! Professional, punctual, extremely detail oriented, friendly and easy to work with. He kept the work area immaculate and we couldn't be happier with our new living space.

Sonny was wonderful. He helped us envision how we could best utilize our basement space. He started very soon after he gave us his estimate. We asked him to complete several upgrades such as a tiled shower and backsplash in the bathroom and kitchenette, theater room platform, speaker cut-outs, extra lights in the unfinished part. Sonny was very timely and clean. We have small children and he was respectful of nap times. The quality of his work was unbeatable for the cost. Sonny went above and beyond to assist us resolve a project performed by someone else we had hired do a side job who had not done great job. Overall we can’t recommend him highly enough! We love our new basement and are so excited to enjoy it for years to come!

My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with our basement! Sonny was GREAT to work with. We had a rough idea of the layout we wanted for our ~750 sq ft. basement and Sonny was willing to offer his advice and preference when asked. His pricing was very competitive, his schedule was easy to work with and he stayed on schedule and communicated with us throughout the project. He completely finished our unfinished basement (framing, drywall, painting, half-bath plumbing/install, electrical, lighting, ceiling, trim-work...only thing Sonny doesn't do are the floors). My wife particularly loved that Sonny is very particular on details and if something just didn't look right, Sonny wasn't going to be satisfied with it. Sonny had higher standards for his work than we did (that's a compliment!). If you want a reasonable price for A+ quality in your basement, then Sonny (Muscles for Hire) is your choice.

After researching basement finishing contractors I found Sonny Norris of Muscles for Hire here on Angie's List. His reviews were stellar and I bookmarked him-- for two years! --until we were ready to begin our basement project. When we contacted him for an estimate he came out right away, we were immediately impressed. We actually didn't contact anyone else for an estimate after we spoke with him. We knew we would be getting the best--and we did! Sonny is reliable, creative, hardworking, and most importantly, a true craftsman. His attention to detail is above reproach. We live in a newly built home, but our basement is now the star in quality. He created a floor plan that is bright, airy, and open--not adjectives typically associated with a basement living space! He truly saved us from our own floor plan design which would have had us living more akin to moles in series of interconnected tunnels. We can't speak highly enough about the quality of his work! Our floor plan is not the only example of Sonny's creativity. I told him what I envisioned for the space in terms of lighting, and he went above and beyond. The custom picture window he put in is amazing! All the sunlight, the expansive view of the backyard and forest--its perfect! His idea for double barn doors opening into my (well-lit!) art studio are sleek, modern, and masterfully hung. These are just a couple examples of his creativity and craftsmanship---I mean he truly attends to all the details and he's invested in them being perfect. Sonny works on one basement at time, so we knew that our project was a priority. Throughout our years of homeownership we've hired our fair share of contractors. More often than not, the person who provides the estimate is not the person who is on the job site doing the work every day. Well, Sonny is different. He's there every day and he does the work. He had one assistant that was with him each day, and then a couple more workers that assisted when all the drywall was installed. The bottomline is he's reliable, trustworthy, and always does what he says he's going to do. We not only trust Sonny with our basement design and finishing, but with the key to our home. He's also super easy to communicate with--we texted a lot because hey, smartphones--but we also chatted over the phone a fair amount. He's responsive and easy to get a hold of--especially since he's at your house working every day. There are some things you'll obviously need to choose and order yourself like cabinets and countertops if your doing a kitchenette/bar. Just plan and coordinate the installation with him and it's easy. Flooring is something you'll need to plan for too (though he does do tile--our bathroom porcelain tile is so modern and stylish--in love!). We timed the our ordering of cabinets/countertops with him, and then had our flooring scheduled for the next week after he finished the basement. And he even came back to install the quarter round for my art studio and the kitchenette after the luxury vinyl planks were installed. He's truly the best and great to work with! I wanted to write an amended review to the one I posted on 03-15-17. I hired Muscles for Hire (Mr. Sonny Norris) to completely refinish my basement on my house that was 3 old. During the renovation it was discovered (to no fault of Mr. Norris) that I has an undetected water leak from an improperly installed window when my house was built. The finishing of the basement thankfully exposed this issue, so further unseen damaged down the road was avoided. Because the source of the water was unable to be determined, Mr. Norris (at his own expense) let me hire two water abatement experts to determine the source of the water which after much headache was determined to be a faulty installed and improperly caulked window on the third floor. At the time of my first review I was still not sue of the cause of the water leak and it had still not been resolved. After spending around 50K to have a nice finished basement, this was a source of extreme frustration. I do however want to make it known that 8 months later after Mr. Norris had completed his obligations, he was still concerned about me being happy and content with my basement which is a rarity, generally speaking, in the construction business as a whole. At Mr. Norris' own expense and time he refabricated the window frames that were damaged by the water that was not his fault and delivered them to my house for installation. This shows exemplary character and concern for projects he takes on. My basement is now everything I thought it would be and I am extremely happy with his craftsmanship and pride. It was important to Mr. Norris that I was happy with the finished project. As I noted in my earlier review, I would hire Mr. Norris again without thinking twice. My only advice is to ensure you figure in the "extras" when comparing bids so you can get an accurate way to compare what you are getting for your money. With that said, experience and a skilled craftsman are worth the extra money. I get many compliments on design elements of my basement that were Sonny's ideas. I get many additional compliments on the sheetrock work which is some of the straightest and most squared walls I have ever seen. Mr. Norris is trustworthy and dependable. He is a professional who will finish the job on or before his target date. He works very efficiently and makes sure to cover vents and do the little things so you don't have construction dust throughout your house. You might find slightly cheaper contractors, but it's been my experience that you get what you pay for. Lastly, in my last review I mentioned certain specialties that Mr. Norris does not do. I would rather have someone be honest and say that is not something they want to tackle then have them tell you they can do it and have it messed up. The additional time I spent involved in the project ended up being well worth it in the end and ensured our project was exactly what we wanted.

Sonny did a great job. We had great communication throughout the project. He was very upfront on when he would be able to start the job and when he would finish the job. Sonny performs 95% of the work himself. This allows him to stay one job throughout the process. I would highly recommend him for your basement. I would recommend having all of your wish list outlined upfront. The project will surprise you on how fast you will have to make decisions.

The experience literally could not have been better. When Sonny informed me it would take four weeks to finish my basement I said, "No need to lie to me. I know from my friends it takes several months to complete a task like that." His response was watch it happen! Sonny arrived on time each day, worked weekends and holidays when needed, and finished my basement in just under four weeks. I couldn't believe it but he did. He was also extremely gracious about complying with my requests and being flexible when I couldn't make up my mind on what I wanted. The overall experience was extremely positive and I highly, highly highly recommend Sonny. Besides his great craftsmanship, he's a lovely guy to work with.

The work he did was good, but there were a few things that he didn't do. I was responsible for the flooring, and any fine painting. He didn't do any fine woodworking either. His bid was low, in the fact that a lot of the smaller details weren't included, but he did a good job. I did end up having 3 other contractors out to do the work he wouldn't, and I had to go to Home Depot a lot and pick up things for him to install, but he did what he said he was going to do, finished on time, and was honest and trustworthy.

Very pleased. Sonny gave us a reasonable quote, and followed through. The job was done within the timeframe quoted and someone showed up everyday. We made some minor changes/additions once the work was started and those were included in the original price. Very professional and easy to work with. Very happy with the finished product.

Sonny is the best! Sonny did everything he said he would do and finished On Time, On Budget, and delivered A+ quality. He stands by his work and he should because he does a great job! I would recommend Sonny to anyone. He shows up on time is there everyday and is a straight shooter. You know exactly what you are getting and that is exactly what we needed.

We highly recommend Sonny, he is one of the most flexible, knowledgeable, and thorough contractors we’ve ever worked with. Sonny prepared us with some initial to-dos, helped plan the layout, and gave us ideas about things we didn’t know we would appreciate until the basement was complete. Sonny walked us through the entire process at the beginning, and was always ready to explain things again, for those times where something didn’t quite make sense until we were in the middle of it. Each step took exactly as long as Sony said it would. The initial framing was fast and precise, the drywall crew was meticulous, and the electrical, plumbing, trim and paint steps went flawlessly. We were impressed by the thorough clean up in between steps. The drywall work in this basement is equal to or better than the rest of the house, which was new construction in 2010. Paint and trim work was beautiful, and because we kept in touch regarding start/finish timings with our other contractors, Sonny had it done in time for the other work we had scheduled. Even after the job was complete and all payments had been made, Sonny checked in and made sure we were happy. We were very impressed that he came out to take care of a couple of very minor things for us, just because he wanted us happy.

First off Sonny is great to work with, he explained what he was going to do, when he was going to do it and did it. He did an excellent job of communicating options and was awesome as we changed our minds about what we wanted with hardware or electrical outlets, asked us about all the things we didn't think about like speakers, cabling and such. Sonny stayed on budget even though we threw several additional items or changes into the design and plan The quality of the work is superb, clean up was complete and he and his team were courteous and polite. He wont do flooring so expect that, otherwise it was an outstanding and positive experience ( though he did put tile in our bathroom and around our bar area. Sonny is a professional and someone i will definitely recommend with confidence.

We would hire Sonny again in a heartbeat. Throughout the ~5 week job, he was professional, communicative, provided ideas and input, and we felt went above and beyond to get the job done in a timely and cost-effective manner. The work done was of the highest quality, and the finished product exceeded our expectations in every way. Sonny tells you up front that their focus is on your project and they do one at a time; they aren't kidding - we felt throughout the job that his attention was directed at our project. The price was fair and the quality was high. Any additional hands Sonny brought into help were also friendly and professional. Sonny also worked really well with our other vendors (like NFM for carpet and Home Depot for cabinets). We've already had friends and family over, who love our new space as much as we do.

This was an extensive remodel of a large, paneled basement with drop ceiling common to 70's built homes. All paneling and ceiling components were removed with drywall replacing both. Some areas where paneling was removed required extensive sanding. All carpeting was removed. Ceilings were textured and walls painted. Special detail was given to creating a smooth surface on the walls. All doors and floor boards were replaced. Corrections were needed to work originally done on electrical wiring and outlets, framing on ceiling vents and a door frame that was not plum. Two walls were constructed to allow for a bedroom and closet that previously did not exist to include installation of French doors. The bathroom vinyl floor was removed and tile installed on floor and in shower which previously had an insert. Toilet, vanity/sink also replaced. The work done by Sonny and his Muscles for Hire crew to transform this dark, dingy basement into a bright, very livable area was exceptional . From the word go, they came in and worked diligently, professionally and consistently. They did a nice job of clean up on a daily basis. There was a high level of craftsmanship provided by the entire crew and the end result of the project is the proof. All work and timelines were completed as originally outlined. This remodel was definitely a pleasant experience and I would highly recommend this group to anyone searching for a reliable, experienced and customer-oriented provider for basement remodel/finishing.
