Never got the appraisal

excellent. they spent a lot of time showing us the ways it could be repaired. All went well and the rug looks like new. colors are clear again and repairs are done well.

We have owned a 9X12 Persian rug for at least 20 years. During this time we have used a variety of rug cleaning companies who say that they also clean Oriental rugs, but we have never been sure of the job we were getting, since we are aware that cleaning these hand-knotted rugs is difficult. Then we learned about KC Rug Cleaning through Angie's List and decided to try them. The owner, John Gerstner, is a student of Oriental rugs and is passionate about them. He knows how to clean and sanitize them and restore them to their original beauty. He knows patterns and can appraise the rug; my husband and I received a very thorough education and appreciation of the rug we purchased many years ago. He and an employee picked our rug up in late October and started working on it in early November. Through the entire process, he kept us informed in great detail about what he was doing. It is a very tedious and time-consuming job to clean these rugs correctly. When we got our rug back just before Christmas, we were thrilled with how it looked. The urine stains were gone! We are pleased with the result of John's work and highly recommend his company to others who want their rugs to sparkle once again.

First, John is the consummate professional regarding cleaning oriental rugs. Second, he is very knowledgeable about such rugs and their history and origin, their value as art, and how to properly care for them. He picked up our rugs and had them for about 6 weeks (this is the busiest time of year for rug cleaning, until Thanksgiving). He was on time and spent considerable time with us discussing oriental rugs and art and value of such. He indicated that our rugs were much more valuable than what we paid for them 15 years ago. When he returned the rugs it was obvious they had been cleaned, especially the white tassels. Both of our rugs are used every day, one in the entry and the other under the dining table. So, they get regular use, but are still in excellent shape. He showed us how to make sure the rugs laid flat and the tassels do not get mangled with use. He has most of the information needed to finish the written appraisals, once the busy cleaning season is over. He gained much knowledge about them during the hand washing process, which he does himself. We really enjoyed getting to know John and found his knowledge about antique rugs very helpful. This was an excellent value from Angie's List, and we recommend him to anyone who has oriental rugs.

John picked up my rug, cleaned it several times and performed color restoration. He then delivered it back to my home. He is a true professional and his knowledge and passion for fine rugs was remarkable. When he delivered the rug back to my home it looked fine to me, but later that day my wife noticed some small stains. Why I didn't see them before was a complete mystery. I contacted John about this and he said he would take care of it when he was in my area. Within a few days he set up a time. He came to my home and meticulously removed the stains. The reader should keep in mind that he had already been paid and came all the way from Kansas City, KS to Olathe to take care of this. He could easily taken the position that the stain was my fault and charged me for it, but he did not. I wouldn't consider using anyone else.

***Update 5/1/15*** I gave him three more rugs. He brought them to my house, decided there was one that needed to be rebound. After four months, he said they wouldn't be able to get it finished it time, kept saying a problem with the yarn. He kept avoiding my calls for about a week and a half after that. We showed up to his place and after a half an hour of ringing the bell, he finally answered the door and gave me the rug. We tried asking for the money back, he said we never paid $580, only $350, but our PayPal receipt said otherwise. Then he tried giving antiques (junk) when I declined, he said he can make payments. That was in September and I haven't heard anything yet. I was able to get it rebound in four days time with another provider, so there was obviously no problem with the yarn. Additionally I paid $75 for an appraisal for another rug which he has never performed in a years' time. John gave me an estimate over the phone and he picked up my rug and because it had been in a fire he wasn't sure how many washings it would take and if the fringe would need to be whitened. It did require the fringe to be done and there was an extra charge for that, which was more than reasonable. Since it was the slow season for him, he was offering a special which made his prices extremely reasonable. The rug was returned today and looks beautiful and there is no hint of a smoke smell. He explained that since it was silk, he hand brushed it after the washings to make it soft again. John spends lots of time with you answering your questions and telling you about your rug. You can tell that he loves what he does. This is a very nice and honest man and I would recommend him to anyone without hesitation. I sent 3 more rugs with him today.

John is the most honest business man I have met in decades. This guy goes out of his way to provide the most impeccable service and takes such pride in his work. He also provides expert opinions on rugs as to their origin and condition! Trust your finest rugs and carpets to this guy. He is totally Old School. You will never find anyone like this anywhere.

John did an amazing job! The rugs look fantastic and he educated me on how they were made, their history, etc. He is incredibly knowledgeable and his passion for his work definitely shows!

We dropped off our rug at the the business. The owner looked at our rug and gave us an estimate. We paid half the estimate that day and the remaining half when the work was complete. The cleaning was performed in a timely manner and the rug looks beautiful and is odor-free. The owner volunteered to deliver our rug back to the house but we were in the neighborhood so we picked it up ourselves. We are very happy with way the rug was cleaned and would not hesitate to use this service again.

John came to my home and did a professional interview and free estimate prior to the work. He was on time and very knowledgeable. He was a friendly guy and did a wonderful job. I now have him coming to do my cleaning once a week. I have a 4 bedroom 2 bath home. He does the work himself and charges 20 per hour, so the price depends on the size of the home. He is very reasonably priced and his work is incredible.
