Jericho Home Improvements is a full service remodeling company specializing in bathroom and kitchen remodeling. We also offer siding and replacement windows, as well as other types of home improvement services. We are fully licensed and insured and work in eastern Kansas and western Missouri.
Our initial design consultation is always free, and our installers are employees of Jericho Home Improvements rather than subcontractors. Mention that you are an Angie's List member and receive $2,000 off of your complete kitchen remodel or $850 off bathroom remodel.
Initial consultation was very simple. They offer an introductory price, so I'd know what it was exactly I wanted before I went into the project. I suspect you'd get a better deal going big from the beginning rather than adding on things as the project went along. Everyone along the way was very nice, and I have no shortage of people that are in awe at how much better the kitchen looks. As was stated, I didn't believe that it would look good enough to be one of those "magazine kitchens", but it does. I give them a thumbs up, and I'll be using them for some of my future projects!
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel. Went from yellow oak with corian inserted countertops and black appliances to granite countertops, white antique cabinets and stainless steel. Jericho had someone to do anything that I wanted done! I had new lights hung, the cutout for my new built-in oven was different, and they fixed that too. completely looks like a different kitchen

Nice fellow that came out. Seemed professional and all. Did the full bid for a bathroom right then and there, which is fine and all, but we had to sit there while he spent three hours plus reviewing things with us and putting the bid together. Here's my favorite part. After telling us the industry standard is 17% of home value for this kind of work, he quotes us $120,000 dollars. Translating into 40% of our home value. For one bathroom. We laughed out loud. He then proceeded to tell us that $50,000 was in the cabinetry. For a bathroom. This bid was so bad that we use it as a joke at parties. I kept the bid on my phone so I could show people that didn't believe me. Don't waste your time.
Description of Work: Ridiculous bid after taking up half our day.

THE GOOD: I was very impressed with the promptness of the appointment setup and the confirmation call the night before. The appointment was set for 6pm which was a major plus, as my husband and I both work 8-5 and I wanted us both to be there. This would give us time to get home and ready for the appointment. The salesman arrived promptly and was very friendly. I instantly liked him, and felt very comfortable with him. My husband liked him too - they had some common interests. We got right to work discussing our vision for the scope of work, mentioned that we are in the early stages of the project (read: not going to make a decision right now stage). He had a lot of good input to add, and had samples with him of the cabinet doors, granite, tile, and paint swatches. There were a few recommendations that were not to our taste, but we didn't want to get bogged down in the details - we just wanted an estimate based on the types of materials we had in mind. I did not expect to be picking out granite colors and paint color at this visit! THE BAD: The salesman finally started taking measurements about two hours in to the meeting. (I had no earthly idea this would turn in to a 4+ hour meeting when it was all said and done) I think I misunderstood him, because when he was done I expected him to take the information home and design the kitchen (he mentioned they put everything into CAD) and prepare the bid and get back to us in a few days. Out came the laptop, and he began designing the kitchen. Then came the extensive proposal process. It was 10pm before the big "reveal" of the price. During this time, he mentioned over and over the quality of the workmanship, the professionalism of the employees and craftsman, etc. etc. We believed him and were very impressed and confident that they would do a great job. Then we got the number. I literally gasped out lout. $89000. For a simple kitchen in a house that is obviously only worth about $200K. I was really disappointed, because as I said my husband and I were both pretty impressed so far - he did use a lot of sales tactics, but we expect some of that. I told him that if I had $90K I would hire him, no problem. Then came the ultimate deal breaker in my mind (even if we could get down to a reasonable price). THE UGLY: The disturbing part - and the main reason for the F rating - comes now. When I made it clear that he was way over our price range - by at least $30K, he wanted to go over the bid and find ways to get the number down. I told him that it was after 10pm, we hadn't eaten dinner yet, and we would have to do that another time. He understood and began gathering up his samples. As he did this, he mentioned some minor discounts - a 3% yard sign discount, and a 2% cash discount (which we never said we were using cash - nor did he ask), and said that if we did the demo, he thought for sure he could get to our number. REALLY? You're going to just drop that much out of the bid? Then he mentioned a very substantial discount that he "is only allowed to use 2 times a year". This discount is offered in exchange for the following: allowing the use of our kitchen for photographs/commercial for 1 year, and that we would be required to write a positive Yelp review, a letter of recommendation, and.....a positive Angie's List review. Up until that point, I thought maybe he was just overdoing it on the price, but when he basically offered to drop the price by $30K in exchange for good reviews, I was done. It felt like fraud to me. Now I question all the positive reviews I read about this company - have they been given in exchange for large discounts? Additionally, I have read through all the reviews (which I did not do before - I only spot checked them), I am seeing that there were people that did hire them, and from the description of their projects, sound MUCH more involved than ours, and are $40K less than we were bid. I realize I can't see the whole picture from the review only - but for what it is worth, I did not see one price mentioned anywhere near what we were bid - whether they were hired or not. Started out VERY IMPRESSED but ended up feeling completely manipulated, taken for fools, and lied to.
Description of Work: Jericho came to home to give estimate for complete remodel of a small 12X12 kitchen, with a small powder room and small laundry room adjoining. We are interested in all new custom cabinets, new hardwood flooring, granite countertops, tile backsplash, and new plumbing fixtures and sink. We already have all the appliances as well as the toilet in the powder room.

It went good but I would say they are on the expensive side. The installers were wonderful. The project manager was not the greatest but our installer was awesome. I think it was like two years ago. I guess it would be it was March because it was March this time. It was a bathroom remodel and I think it was about $16,000 which seems pricey kinda after that. Our bathroom was completely gutted. Punctuality – a “B” only because they were very busy so it took them a while to do the project started.

They were prompt at setting up an appointment to meet with us after work. Issues that arose included: 1) We had no idea the guy would be in our home for 2.5 hours for an initial appointment. He appeared to have no concept of time. 2) We were looking for a design consultation and a ballpark estimate of what something might cost. All of his questions were focused as if final decisions were being made on the spot. 3) I asked him if they provided detailed estimates, so if I decided to do some of the work myself, I could do so. He said that they don't really provide that, as "their software takes everything into account (materials, etc.) when it does it's estimate. That seemed very odd to me. 4) Over two hours later, when he was finally done, he sat down with us and asked, "How much do you think this will come to?". I threw out a ballpark estimate of $25K. He said he thought that sounded about right. When he ran his program, it came back with an estimate of $45K, which was much more than what anyone was thinking. He had no explanation for why this was. He was going to send us the estimate, but never did so. We ultimately chose a remodeler who did everything we were looking to do, plus installed a heated floor and entirely new vanity. Total cost of the project ended up being $17,000.
Description of Work: Made in home visit to evaluate potential master bathroom remodel. (approx. 165 sq. ft) We were planning on removing all carpet and linoleum and tiling everything. Install new toilet and convert everything to oil rubbed bronze. Also wanted to gut/enlarge the shower and replace jetted bathtub, as well as install a granite countertop.

Contacted Jericho by phone and setup a time to a have someone come out to our location and take measurements. From here everything went as scheduled. After they had the measurements I went to their showroom to choose the right color of granite. They had a huge selection to choose from and found the perfect color/style. Install was as scheduled, on time and on budget. the while process was fast and with no surprises. I'd recommend and look forward to having them do more work for me in the future.

While the sales person was very professional, he was exponentially move expensive than all the other quotes I received (about 4 times the price). This is the company you use when you don't care to be bothered with the details of the remodel and price is not a primary factor.

The reviews on Angie's List were spot on for this company. High cost along with poor customer service. I went ahead and had them come out because they said a designer would respond with samples and I was having trouble with selecting colors. The sales rep brought only 3 samples and when asked about others he did not feel like getting out of car. He measured to bid job and never offered suggestions. I had 3 areas of house to work on and he was obviously not happy when I asked him to bid all 3 jobs. He only wanted to bid one at a time and do each job individually. All of others would work on at same time to reduce costs. After writing up bid I asked for a breakdown on labor and materials. Of course he responded very strongly and said that was impossible. I was not impressed with his knowledge of work to be completed and bids were ridiculously high!! He tried high pressure tactics by offering a 20% discount if I signed an agreement right then but offer only good for one time. Everything people said about this company was very accurate.

This was my first home remodeling experience and as a single woman I was very nervous about getting "snowed" by a contractor and that was certainly NOT the case here. From the time I called for a consultation Jericho was friendly and professional. Rita, the Designer who came to my house to give me my estimate was friendly and accommodating. I was especially impressed that she arrived with samples for everything, it helped me visualize and feel more comfortable with the quote rather than others that just came by and took a look. The Contractor that did the work was Pat and he was professional, friendly, prompt and just overall great. He had full access to the house throughout the project and was very respectful. Not only did I trust him to come and go when I wasn't home, he left the house clean everyday. You only knew that he was remodeling the bathroom if you looked in there. He gave me daily updates and he pointed out a potential plumbing issue I could run into in the future and I really felt that he had my best interest in mind. We did the remodel in November 2013 and during the cold spell in January and February the grout around the window starting cracking. Jericho didn't hesitate to come out and seal it back for me. I had an appointment for 8 AM today and no one was here at 8:30. I called the offices and long story short, there had been some personnel changes and my appointment had been missed. This is the first mistake they had made so no big deal. Within a few minutes, Pat called me, he had been in the office, heard that I called and was over here within 30 minutes, sealed the window and was on his way. That is service my friends! You will get cheaper quotes from other remodelers, Jericho is not going to be the cheapest. However, remember, you get what you pay for with these projects. I love my bathroom and would recommend Jericho all day!

They were punctual to come out but I felt like the price was ridiculous. We got it down to $16k at the lowest which was after us agreeing to do most of the tear out and us providing most of the materials. It did not seem like it was worth that much just to put in tile, drywall and a new tub. The bathroom is literally just enough space for a tub, sink and toilet so its not like its a big space. The price was only good if we signed at that moment. I feel like Jericho is very pressuring in trying to get people to sign up before they have time to get other quotes or think about it. I did not like that and it did not feel professional. If we did not sign at that exact moment (not even tomorrow) it would be $21k. That is crazy. I don't want to work with a company like that.
Description of Work: We had Jericho out to give a quote for remodeling a very small spare bath. It was basically just a facelift with new tile, new tub, new vanity, all of which we would provide.

The representative we worked with was prompt and very polite. At our first meeting, measurements were taken and we talked about what we wanted the finished room to look like, and looked at a few countertop samples. When he came back with a proposal and bid about a week later, the amount was higher than we wanted to pay (in the neighborhood of $24,000 for cabinets and countertops only, we would do the floor, backsplash, range hood, and all tear out and disposal ourselves). The proposal also had the wrong color of cabinets, and an incorrect configuration (based on what we talked about in the previous meeting). I'm sure that we could have corrected the issues in the design on further discussion, but we ended up using Home Depot for cabinets and countertops for about $18,000. The cabinets we chose were only semi-custom as opposed to the complete custom-built cabinets from a local supplier we would have gotten with Jericho, so that accounts for the price difference. Very kind and prompt, just not the contractor for us.

Company representative arrived late and did not act in a professional manner. I gave him my budget target and he replied with an estimate that was 40 percent higher. This was all before any measurements or details were discussed. He took the measurements and made an appointment for the following week. He did not show up on the appointment time/date, and no phone call was received to cancel/reschedule. 3 weeks later, I received a call from the office to schedule an appointment. I informed them that they already stood me up once, and I already signed a contract with another company.

Our house was built in 1927. Floors were inside outside carpeting that was green, had a major plumbing problem that ran from the basement to the second story. You could see holes threw it, it was part of the sewer line or sewer gas, I am not sure being a girl. Bathroom floor was so rotted you could see the basement. Our cabinets were original and so where the counter tops. The bathroom was put into a closest and you could see the electrical through a plastic tube. Electrical and plumbing was a mess being how old the house was. I thought and thought about fixing my house and after 10 years I decided too. Thought my house was going to be a big pit during Christmas but they did everything they could to make myself and my family comfortable. They finished the job on time, fixed the old parts that needed fixing, kept the ones that didn't. Was very patient when I changed my mind several times. The reason why I went with them because they do it all. If I had to have several workers doing several different things and not timing things right it would have been a disaster. One company to fix it all was my choice. I will certainly give them a call when I redo the second floor of the house!

A leak in an upstairs unit caused major water damage in the bathroom, making it necessary to pull out the shower surround (for starters). I was pretty nervous about hiring a contractor; I have just a small condo bathroom, not the kind of big, fancy bath that is what I would normally associate with that sort of thing. I was imagining asking for an estimate and being laughed out of the room as not having a job worthy of their time. Boy, was I wrong about that! Everyone at Jericho was simply wonderful. Rita not only showed me wonderful options for the room, but also helped me stay on track and on budget, even when I needed to make changes. Even my little job got a project manager (Mike) to keep oversee the process. I had one installer from start to finish, and Anita was just wonderful - very detail oriented and meticulous in her workmanship, and she went to great lengths to minimize the disruption and mess in my home. I don't expect to do another project as big as this one any time soon, but if I was remodeling, I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to give Jericho another call.

Chris showed up on time and waited for me to arrive despite some confusion on the scheduled time. Chris was very professional and courteous describing the attributes of the company and what a typical bathroom remodel might cost me based on where I live and research from Remodeler Magazine. He also went over their rating with the BBB and what it takes to receive such an impressive rating. Although he never looked at the shower, and I never received a formal quote, Chris indicated that I would be looking at upwards of $40,000.00 to remodel just my walk in shower. Curious as to how he arrived at this price (without ever looking at the shower or asking about the general size or condition) Chris again had me look back to the averages stated in Remodeler Magazine. Chris did show me a a brochure on their shower system and I was informed that the shower base was by far the most expensive part of any shower renovation. i was still unsure as to why he still hadn't asked to look at the shower, but was then informed that if I was looking for a remodel of a walk in shower under $15,000.00----Jericho was probably not the company for me. Thank you for coming to my house and bringing me up to speed on national averages of bathroom remodeling.

Contacted Jericho for bid to remodel master bathroom. Discussed with salesman possible design. Looked at sample cabinets and tile. Made a bid on preliminary choices. Wanted decision made immediately but we weren't ready to move that quickly. Returned in 2 days where design changed. Told us if we signed now, he would make his quota and make the company trip which we thought we would help. Found out that trip was a ploy to get the sell. We continued to work with him, but evert single change increased the price. Tried to get a breakdown of expenses for each section of the project but they wouldn't comply. Ultimately, the design was ours without his help. The tile chosen was not from their limited selection but our choice. The shower fixture was one that I had found, not him. Bottom line, if you want a routine, cookie cutter result, don't count on them for help. Beware of being nickeled and dimed to death. The project did start the 8-12 weeks after choices were made. However, they figured it would take 3-4 weeks to finish but actually took over 7 weeks. Items came in damaged or incorrect and had to be reordered. The granite wasn't measured until later thus putting everything behind. It was when our worker was called to another job before ours was completed that we had had enough. The project manager quit the company 2 weeks after the project began. We didn't know our replacement until much later. I must say the end product did turn out as we planned, but only because we had a good construction man to do our job. We also had our roof replaced and a screened in porch built at the same time. These projects went well without the multiple hassles we had with Jericho. I can only say beware when dealing with this company, do your homework, and get other bids!
Description of Work: Gutted master bathroom, lowered floor, replaced cabinets, countertops, tile floor, and shower tile.
