College Works Painting Kansas

Bottom line, this was the worst paint job I had ever seen and the most unprofessional. Except for the last two people I'm not even certain the people Jon hired were real painters. He hired them off of Craig's list they told us. From day one this was a disaster and very unprofessional. Starting from the beginning, our contractor, I'll just call him Jon, was late for our first two appointments. That should have been a red flag but he was very nice. We discussed timing of the work, and I told him that we were flexible, except that if the job was not completed by July 20th, it would have to start after August 1st because we were going on vacation. However, one week before our vacation Jon wanted to start and said that he'd be finished by the 20th......one month later is when he actually finished. Two weeks before the scheduled job we were supposed to meet with a person to work out the colors. That never happened. Jon came by the house two days before he started work and helped us with some samples. The crew was very unprofessional. They removed all the storm windows and laid them flat in the back yard. They lay there for 3 weeks....killed the lawn. They were definitely not college workers and they were definitely not professional.....read on to see why. While I was on vacation my neighbors said that the painters seldom came by, and when they did, it was usually one person for a few hours. Three days before I returned from vacation my neighbors called and told me that someone was their hanging all the storms and it looked like they were trying to finish quickly before our return home. When we arrived home we were simply appalled. The storm windows were placed back without even being cleaned after laying in the grass for 3 weeks. The windows behind them were not scraped and were filthy as well. There was paint all over the insides of each storm window where the person putting them in had handled them. It was a nightmare,. As for the paint job,.....they were very sloppy. There was paint drips all over the drive way, on the cedar deck and and on the porch roof. The lines where they had to cut in were awful. The front porch entrance way was not even covered....you could see through to the previous painted surface. There were strips of wall between the porch floor and the wall that were not painted. Whole sections of rain gutter were completely unpainted. There were places where the paint had run down the gutters in streaks....probably because it rained right after they painted. But they never bothered to fix it! Jon promised that he would fix all of this but it took another 2 weeks to get our house back. One day, there was a single person working and he had his ladder set up in the drive way. At noon he simply left, the ladder stood in the driveway all day until Jon came by at 6 PM to take it down (we have a shared driveway so that was not good). In order too fix this, they ad to remove all the storms. Someone came by and removed most of the storms and for the next week the storms lay in the driveway, on the front and back porch and between mine and my neighbors house. One day my wife went out on the back deck and there were sitting two strangers. She was surprised, asked them who they were, and they said that they were filling out job applications for Jon. Jon was not around. Bottom line is that finally, after I made calls to the regional manager, 2 people showed up and were very good, They spent 2 days cleaning the storms, the windows and and touching up the bad paint job. We finally got our house back in fairly good order one month after they started. I would definitely think twice before using this company. I think it is hit and miss and it all depends on who is managing your particular job. Good luck if you use them.

No communication, killed grass by leaving storm windows on the ground - broke three of the windows. Paint is already peeling. Poor craftsmanship, don't be fooled by initial professionalism.

The team of young college students painters were superb (3: one "manager"and two general workers though all three did the work). They were on time everyday (started by 8am) and stayed to late afternoon/early evening to get the job done. They spent a great deal of time prepping the house (sanding, cleaning, caulking) and it has really paid off. With the new paint, the house looks ten years newer. The mess was kept to a minimum with very little paint ending up on foundation or patio. The care put in to the trim and detail (shutters and window panes and sills) is the same I'd assume to get from a more experienced paint company. Alex Bontz, the project manager, was incredibly focused and professional. He supervised every job his painters were given and often intervened in the middle of their work to inspect it and/or to offer advice or correct their method. He kept me up to date with the process and always answered my calls (returned them) promptly. We had a problem with my color choices; the preliminary paint test proved way off the color of the swatches I had chosen. Alex returned to Sherwin Williams Paints and worked with their person to find the right color. The price was also right, extremely fair for the work done, if not a bit underbid for the additional hours the crew had to put in to complete a quality, detailed job. I really appreciated the care and work and Alex Bontz and his team and I would recommend these young men for any future painting project in the area.

Tyler and his crew were polite, hardworking, and kept the flowers and yard protected and clean as possible. We recently replaced the screen on our patio and because some paint had dropped down onto it, the men replaced all the screen wire at no additional cost to us. They were very easy to talk to and everything was discussed as the job went along.

Codi Martin was the visible director and he kept us informed and was courteous with no problems with the care and services. In otherwords it was a very good service.

We choose to hire College Works Painters to paint the exterior of our 2+ story historic home for 3 reasons: timing, costs, and recommendations of others. We knew that the program and company provides the crews with an internship type situation. The service this team provided was as we expected, excellent. Justin Irvine, as the branch manager, presented himself as a caring person, capable of leading a paint crew, and of providing a quality service. He lived up to that presentation fully. The team responded to our requests, our concerns, our schedules, and kept us up to date on their work schedules. We had not hired painters, nor tackled a project of this magnitude before, although we had experiences working with crews in others areas of repair and renovations. Our house/home was built on 1897, so this paint job was not an easy one. Justin, Lance, Nate and Cortez met issues like removing lead based paint, highlighting the detailed craftsmanship of the trim, and handling old windows. If this team is representative of the College Works company, the company is in good hands. We appreciated their work, and professionalism.

Went fantastic! The level of communication Payson provided me was phenomenal. Deck looks great and I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again!

My wife and I immediately noticed how professional and painstakingly careful the paint crew was in cleaning and preparing the porch for staining and how careful they were in cleaning up our yard once they had finished. Lucas Reddig, their supervisor kept them on task, at times joining them in their detail-oriented activities but more often assessing their work and, in general, demonstrating his leadership of the entire operation. On the basis of the quality of the work done I would award Reddig and his crew high marks--in fact, all A's. He kept us apprised of the work being done and asked for our response from time to time as it was being done. We were also impressed by the professional manner of the paint crew, which consisted essentially of college-aged young men. In fact the only problem with the work they did over about two days was its price, a matter, of course, beyond the responsibiity of the crew and its supervisor. We felt that the cost--$877--was a bit exorbitant for a 14X14-foot porch. For this reason alone we would be unlikely to hire a College Works crew again.

Do to weather issues it took a little longer than expected but was happy and satisfied with the work when completed.

The team scraped, primed where needed and painted. They were on time and cleaned up the mess each day. The supervisor checked on the job, adding finishing touches where needed to ensure our satisfaction. I don't think they'd had much experience with brick (and the lack of ability for the painter's tape to keep paint off) so some "do-overs" were required. These were completed without complaint. The estimate for the job was reasonable and the work was quite satisfactory. The house looks much better and we are pleased.

They did a fantastic job! I was very impressed with the work college works painting provided. I had no idea a house could be painted so fast and precise as they did it. I would highly recommend payson and and his crew to paint anyone's house. College works is a great program it sounds like teaching these kids about business and I am glad I could contribute to their cause. A+

Guys were always on time and kept me in the loop. They were very urgent in their work, and did a great job at that. They helped me pick out colors and figure out the best route of action to paint the house. I am overall very pleased with their work and would highly recommend College Works and payson to anyone. Payson Maydew was the point person that scheduled, organized and explained the whole process to us. payson and his crew did an excellent job, offered a competitive rate and worked quickly around several rain delays. Even through the rain delays, payson was in constant communication and kept me up to date on their plans to arrive and complete the project. They were friendly , professional and were accommodating during very crazy summer scheduling. whenever I had questions he was available by phone, email, or text. Payson Maydew and his crew did a great job with our house. it looks fantastic. they did everything they said they would as far as power washing sanding scraping priming and all the other stuff. we even added in some stuff last second and they didn't even hesitate to get it done for us right away. very responsive! Always on time and very easy to work with. I recommend college works to everybody!

It went well, we were satisfied. They did everything to satisfy us with our color choice as we were trying to match the existing paint. They were fast, tidy and cleaned up after themselves. We did a "walk through" when they were finished, marking everything I felt needed a touch-up - which they followed through with.

it went fantastic! payson has an eye for color. he helped me finally decide on a good color and they got the work done very quickly and efficiently and did a fantastic job. i would highly recommend them to any body looking for exterior work done! cant express how happy i am with his service! great kid and a great manager. The whole process from start to finish was relatively smooth, even though this was the first time we had hired exterior painting contractors. This included a visit for the estimate, another to choose paint colors and for Anthony to paint test samples of various body and trim colors, daily walk arounds to inspect the ongoing work and the final visit to close out the paperwork and register the included 1 year warranty. They use a high quality Sherwin Williams paint by default, but we decided to upgrade to the Duration Satin for a longer lasting finish (based on the good reviews of this exterior paint in Consumer Reports). We picked College Works Painting because we liked the idea of giving back to the community by supporting higher education in some small way and to give a nice hard working kid a helping hand to pay his way through college. Anthony was always diligent and courteous, working long hours to get the job done, despite the temperatures reaching close to 100 deg F. At the end of each night they cleared all their tools and equipment away and performed a walk around inspection. Part of the expectation when hiring college kids to paint your house is that they will not be as well qualified or knowledgeble as a 20 year veteran painting contractor, but Anthony made up for it with his willingness to touch up any mistakes, no matter how small (even when he had to repaint large sections of trim because we changed our minds on the color....take a lesson from me and check your test sections in different light conditions, then double check the numbers when ordering your chosen colors). Although the final job was not perfect, I consider it to be good value for money and would have no trouble recommending Anthony and his team to anyone else who wanted a painting job done this summer. I'm sure their painting skills will improve as they complete more jobs and continue to gain experience, so don't be afraid, support you local college kids....they need the beer money :o) We have already recieved many unsolicited compliments from people walking by on how nice the house looks with it's new paint job, so that must say something for the final product as well.

Sales were accurate, and they crew got out very quickly after the sale was made to get started on our house. Overall all the workers were there very efficient in there work despite all the bouncing around we had to do. Finished each day very clean and work hard and late each day. I was overall very pleased with the work done by Payson and his crew and would highly recommend them for anyone looking to get painting done and we would hire them again! with the size of our house and the quickness they got it done was very impressive. Obviously they had experience. They asked my opinion very often about how the house looked and touched up anything I asked them to. Very professional and looking forward to doing business again.

My wife and I highly recommend College Works Painting. They just painted the outside of our house. Let me start by saying our house is 18 years old and I don't think it had been fully painted since it was original built. I tried painting it myself a couple of years ago and never completed the job because it was an overwhelming undertaking. It desperately needed a lot of prep work and painting. We were somewhat apprehensive at first because we found as many negative company reviews as positive ones. We finally decided to give them a chance because of our intern, John Myers. Also, having a college age daughter, we really liked the idea of supporting college students. John was very professional through the whole process and provided us a free quote with three options on the quality of the job. Before actually starting the job, John showed us the three options by painting them in large patches on the back of our house, which was very helpful. We even upgraded the quality of our job based on these examples. Once the job started, they were very accommodating to concerns, touch ups and changes, within reason. Their attention to detail was remarkable. They even repainted areas that John wasn't satisfied with that I didn't even notice. From the very beginning, John and his crew were wonderful. He kept us informed daily on how the job was progressing. They cleaned up every night before they left for the day and then moved everything back they had to move to paint. They were very prompt, courteous and friendly. Our neighbors even commented on their professionalism and friendliness. We firmly believe that the quality of the results is a direct reflection of the quality of people doing the job. Great job College Works in hiring John Myers and great job John in hiring your crew! Payson Maydew, with College Works Painting, presented himself as very professional and knowledgeable. He was very motivated to get the job for his crew and made sure that the job was very well done and in a timely manner. The Sherwin Williams paint that was used looks exceptionally nice on the house. They were very good at caulking and getting the house sealed up and ready for paint. The crew was also very tidy and cleaned up all the paint they scraped off the house, and left the house and yard looking great. We are very pleased with the finished product and plan on using College Works again to paint more rental houses.

I am very impressed with College works from the free estimate to the finished job! I They were actually able to paint my house earlier than the planned date. After hearing Payson Maydew's presentation I hired them without hesitation. He was very knowledgeable about the Sherman Williams paint options and the intense prep work. They were very professional and worked steady providing a very nice paint job.they touched up anything I pointed out and made sure I was pleased with all aspects before they were done. Payson even came back after they were done to touch up my shutters after they drilled holes to hang them and touched up any places that neede more paint. My house has a new look thanks to College Works. Payson's Team worked long,hard hours even on the day temperatures were very hot. I had reservations at first about hiring College Kids to paint my house ,but I would use College works again. My garage took a ton of prep work and they worked very hard the prep day getting it scraped and prepped. My brick house has the mortar that comes out between the bricks so it is not an easy house to paint.They sprayed it and did a fantastic job at covering all of the bricks.I love the way the job looks now that it is completed and would highly recommend College Works! thank you for a professional and affordable job.they worked early morning to late evening up until dark.A very hard working team that provided excellent services.
