BEWARE BATE AND SWITCH and SHADY DEALING>>>If you are a American Home Shield Warranty customer and they send you APW Plumbing, Heating & Cooling to fulfill the service of the warranty beware. Bate and Switch - The convinced our renter that the Garbage Disposal needed to be upgraded to 1/2 HP from the 3/8th that was there and additional plumbing needed to be done. The cost the technician told our renter was $15 above the $75 we normally would pay. Somehow the technician also convinced them they need to pay the $234 charge up front. Long story short we are out the $234 plus the $75. they had the gall to send an invoice that included a $52 diagnostic fee which later was taken off. American Home Shield customer 1) never let APW into your home for any reason - you cannot trust them. 2) never pay the service provider a penny up front - the only thing you pay is the $75(Or what ever amount you agreed to pay per item fixed)

DO NOT TRUST APW. I wish I could give less then a 1 star. Very unprofessional office staff, very pushy sales. They promise something and deliver something. Post installation no, sales team will vanish as if they never existed. I got AC, Heater, Tank less water heater, Water softner, humdifier and air purifier installed by them. I wish I should have shopped around more. Firstly they sold it me very very expensive which I realized later, second, they have not yet provided the invoice or bill of sale to me even after 3 months. And biggest cheating they did that quoted me something else and signed me up for a payment which is 3 times higher than agreed. I am stuck so can't help myself but will never ever do business with them and will not let my friends and family do it. Yet to experience how their maintenance and support work but don't have high hopes.

This was the worst experience of any service company I've ever had. It sickens me to hear her fake voice on her radio show every weekend on 980 KMBZ. We called to get help with hot water to out upstairs bathrooms more quickly. They sold us on a bogus system that never worked. Then when we asked them to remove it because it made the problem worse - we actually got scalded by hot water after still waiting over a minute for it to arrive - they refused to remove the equipment and refused to refund the charge. We had to threaten to go to the media and expose their crooked practices before they finally agreed to remove the system that didn't work and refund our money. I've heard similar stories from others. PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CROOKED COMPANY

Beware!! This company is a scam. I was assigned APW by my home warranty company. I was initially pretty excited since I’d had seen them on TV. They came out and immediately started saying I needed this and that and that my home warrenty wouldn’t cover unless I paid them. I paid them $350 that day. I had a gut feeling I shouldn’t have. They then said parts need to be ordered and they would get back with me. I called them a week later and they “well forgot to order the parts and would get them ordered right away”. Couple weeks passes so I called them again and “they said well we couldn’t read the part numbers so “we couldn’t order the parts and would call me with next steps” when they clearly wrote down the items that were needed at my house. They called last week (of course after I had been calling) and said I needed to pay them $1500 directly because my warranty company wouldn’t pay for a new furnace. I called the warranty company and they said they should have NEVER asked me for money. All repairs go through them. I started to dig deeper into this company to do if these were practices they had been involved in before and sure enough it was a common compliant! These people aren’t trustworthy- they will scam you out of your money and then ignore messages from you! I’m posting pictures of some of the complaints I found online. My initially request was on Nov. 8th and 4 weeks later we still didn’t have a working furnace upstairs. Hope my review prevents someone from being taken advantage of.

I just had a horrible experience with APW Plumbing, Heating & Cooling. My mom is covered by a home warranty program and APW was referred to her to investigate a cooling problem with her upstairs unit. On the first visit, the tech found that the filter needed to be changed but clearly didn't inspect the rest of the system because the next week the system still wasn't keeping up with the cooling requirements. So they had to be called out a second time. By this time I'd arrived to help her with other stuff and when the APW tech, Tyler, arrived he looked the system over and recommended that the coils be cleaned, but there was some question as to whether it would be covered by the warranty. Mom immediately called the warranty company, but Tyler said that he couldn't wait for EVEN FOR A COUPLE MINUTES while she worked it out with the warranty company. We had to agree to pay them out of pocket immediately or they wouldn't do the work. So let me get this straight: They were supposed to be here at 1 PM but didn't show up until after 4 PM. So clearly it's OK for us to have to wait OVER THREE HOURS for them to show, but once here, they can't wait for FIVE MINUTES for us to get verification? If we had immediately agreed to pay out of pocket he would have been here to do the work, so it wasn't as if they didn't have the time. They simply chose not to give us the chance to decide how it would get funded. Tyler said that his manager told him repeatedly not to wait, so this is not a matter that applies just to the tech. This is an issue that is indemic to the company. Unfortunately, I was told by Tyler on TWO different occasions that I couldn't even talk to the manager. Really??? So I told him to leave and thankfully he did. The truth here is that we would have paid to have the work done regardless because it needed to be fixed. But the fact that he wouldn't wait for even a couple minutes is a fine example of CUSTOMER NO SERVICE. We can wait hours for them, but under no circumstances can they wait a couple of minutes for us. If you're in KC, I highly suggest that you NOT employ this company.

David from APW was great! We had a leaking outside faucet and upon inspection he determined that the parts were no longer available. Installing a new faucet would have been a problem because he would have had to open up a finished ceiling. David was able to repair our old faucet stem instead of digging into drywall. Couldn't be happier.

The consultant came out and evaluated my needs. He was very thorough in making sure they addressed all the Heating and Cooling issues I had in my house. He then spent time showing me my options, so I could make an informed decision. The scheduling process was quick and turn around time was also quick. The consultant monitored the entire installation process and then followed up with me after multiple times. I had them install a new HVAC system and Tankless Water Heater. I now have instant, unlimited hot water - definitely worth the expense. I also am in love with my new HVAC - all the rooms in my house are now a consistent temperature - it cools my house quickly - my bills have gone down - and the included thermostat can be controlled with my phone! The only warning I have is if you finance through them, there interest rates are on the high side (at least in my books).

We have been using APW ever since we bought out home as the home warranty we carry they are a preferred contractor. At first, their services were good, we didn't have any problems at all. After the first time, everything started going downhill. Always rescheduling us, having to play phone tag non-stop, selling us stuff we don't need, telling us we need certain things, but then don't even install using said things, and he most recent occurrence was not pulling a permit when our county REQUIRED it. We told them time and time again that a permit has to be pulled as KCMO told us we had to. No one could figure out why they had to pull a permit. They kept saying no, we don't, but KC MO said, yes you do. After two weeks we finally made a little bit of headway, but was told the cost was going to be 3x the price because a permit was not pulled originally. SO what did APW do? They lied and said it was an emergency install so they didn't have to pay the 3x the price. After that, we were told we would be responsible for the cost(this would have been fine if we had known, but didn't and spent several weeks back and forth being told they didn't have to do anything). Fast forward to present day, they are trying to charge a HUGE permit price to our warranty company and it shouldn't be that much(we know the price as we've asked), but they want to charge the home warranty company more which hurts us because of a limit that happens. We've been dealing with APW on this single issue for over a month and that's a month too long. The office manager is rude, beats around the bush, and is not professional at all. Unfortunately we can't go up the ladder as the office manager states they are as high as we can go(mind you we never requested the office manager at any point). Very poor service. The installers were great, however no one else has been. Beware if you choose to use APW in the future because we have had nothing but issues.

It took several trips before the unit was working again. It has not worked correctly sense they "fixed" it. Their service was so bad, I refuse to let them back in the house. Company has been told to stop calling on at least 8 different occasions, yet called again today. They refuse to come out unless they have a tech "in the area", which never worked with my schedule. They even went so far as to call to tell me they scheduled an appointment, which I did not authorize.

I would'nt recommend this company ever. The hired a convicted thief and sent to our house. As a result we are out several thousand dollars lost to replace goods. They refuse to make good on the loss even though plumber took responsibility for this loss. He is currently on probation for violating his already existing probation for yet another crime. And there were other families that suffered loss due to this person in their home. Wow is all I can say. Turning this into our insurance would have resulted in our premium raising plus deductibles would have to be covered. Bottom line-they didn't care about the background check.
Description of Work: Provider sent convicted thief to my home. We suffered a loss of goods and apw refused to make good. Another family also suffered a loss. We sued worthless plumber in court and won. To this day we haven't received a dime on this. I would never recommend this company. Owner said in court they were aware of his record and hired him and sent him to our house anyways.

It went fine. When I first had it installed it was disappointing as the piping distance was too long and caused water to heat up slowly. They managed to remeasure it and it's now marginally better. They found that there was no pressure rig valve so they're going to come back to install it. They were professional and told me my options.

My home warranty company referred me to APW, and I'm sorry they did. Absolutely the worst experience with any trade that I have had in my life. I wanted our shower to stop leaking and the toilet to stop running randomly. Instead it turned into a shower valve, a toilet flapper and a pressure regulator valve (PRV). The home warranty would only cover the flapper and the PRV, but not the shower valve. I wanted the work done that the home warranty would cover, understanding that I would be left to pay for the shower valve. I asked APW for a quote. Turns out they were suddenly unwilling to fix the shower valve (by replacing the worn parts) as they said they would do prior to learning home warranty wouldn't cover it . After that was denied, they now say I needed an entirely new valve. To get that done, it would cost $125 to open up the wall and $400+ for the new valve and installation. Would they fix the wall afterwards? Patch the hole? Drywall mud the seam? Paint to match? No. For $125 all I get is a hole in the wall. Now, after the original appointment and having receiving approvals from home warranty, I scheduled two appointments to get the PRV and flapper replaced. Both appointments were cancelled. One cancelled 30 minutes -after- the scheduled time (after I'd taken off from work and was already at home waiting). The next time they called and left voicemail (minutes before their office closed) saying they didn't order parts and were unable to keep the appointment for the next day. When I called back the next day, no one in the office could even attempt to resolve things. I had to wait 4 hours until the one member of the office staff who knew "the situation" came in. Turns out they were waiting on the parts for the shower valve -- work neither I nor the Home Warranty company approved. Now they could no longer keep the appointment -- again after I had already taken off from work. They have hung up on me. They didn't return my calls. And after 29 days waiting to have one valve and a toilet flapper replaced -- finally the home warranty company conference called us and the best they would offer is another day off of work and a new appointment that I certainly don't trust them to keep. I'm not stupid. Thankfully, the home warranty company was willing to refer my claim to a different plumbing company who will be here on Tuesday. (I hope). Needless to say, I will never deal with APW again, nor will the people where I work who have heard the whole event through my phone calls. I signed up with Yelp simply because --no one-- should have to go through what I've been through with APW. I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. -------------------- Update 4/16/2015 So the other plumber came out on Tuesday (on time). He inspected the PRV which HAD NOT failed. Instead he showed me how it was adjusted incorrectly, and I helped as he adjusted it. The home warranty company approved repairing the shower valve this time (since the PRV had not failed, so it wasn't "consequential" damages). This plumber had the parts in his van and fixed the valve (not replaced). And he installed a new toilet flapper. 90 minutes with this new plumber would have saved me over a month back and fourth with APW. I should have dumped them sooner.
Description of Work: Our handheld shower was leaking and our toilet was running randomly. APW came and evaluated the situation, diagnosed the problems as a failed pressure regulating valve, an leaky toilet flapper, and a shower valve failure. They submitted the work order to the home warranty company.

eeeIn January we went to change a filter and noticed they left the manufacturer's plastic on the filter. Our water lines constantly have air and we have had to replace a faucet due to the plastic entering our water system and getting stuck in our faucet. When we called to have notify them of the plastic being on the filter they gave me the run around, wouldn't return phone calls to resolve the issue immediately. After 2 weeks they finally over nighted a new filter. The only reason I said I would use them again in the future is because they are the only company that can service this system. Would not recommend this company.

First of all, the $7,000.00 cost is conservative by the time you add in the cost of the water conditioner, the reverse osmosis system, and annual maintenance since installation. The installation was years ago. The salesman was a bald-faced liar, (or, more accurately, he believed his own BS...which we didn't). Still, we wanted a water softener, and we got the nicest one they sold. The salesman's pitch was that we would actually *save* money, because what we pay for new coffeemakers and humidifiers and water heaters and washing machines and dishwashers and cleaners and accelerated deterioration of clothes....if you take all that into account and how much you'd have to set aside month after month to replace these appliances and buy detergents whose first ingredient is a chemical to soften water....it's more than what you'd pay for the water conditioner. Now...to some degree, he was right, and I acknowledged that. I didn't realize the main ingredient in laundry detergent and dishwasher soap was a chemical to soften the water. Interesting. The premise was that we wouldn't have to pay for that expensive detergent, we could just buy a soap without all the additives, and save money to help pay for this water conditioner. He somehow convinced me that this was true. But there's no way he was going to convince me that all of the sudden, I wouldn't have to replace my appliances and my plumbing and my water heater, as if the only reason these things fail is because of hard water deposits. But I can see how they don't run as efficiently because the hard water deposits on my water heater requires more energy to heat the water. Bottom line....I knew this wasn't the "money *saving* endeavor" he was trying to pass off. However, I expected a decrease in my gas bill (the only thing we use gas for in the summertime is to heat water). But....it didn't. Even after replacing the water heater. I expected their supply of "included detergents" would work as well, (or better?) than the detergents we currently bought. They don't. (To this day, we still end up buying the "expensive detergents" we were promised we wouldn't need!) Pretty much everything else he said to make this a "zero sum" purchase....that the cost of the water conditioner would be MORE than offset by our other savings.....was completely bogus. Again, I kind of expected that going in, so that wasn't the compelling factor in making our purchase. But what he conveniently glossed over was that every month we were going to be spending an additional $8-$10 on solar salt. (Which doesn't sound like much, and it isn't, but when he's trying to tally up every last nickel that we spend on cleaners and prorating our monthly expenses on a coffee maker over the lifespan of that device.....and then omitting $10/mo....c'mon! The worst part is their annual maintenance, which is exorbitantly expensive!! it is flat out CRAZY how much they charge to cleanse the silver-impregnated balls and replace the pre- and post-filters on the RO. Oh...but wait!!! Every 2nd year, you also have to replace something else on the RO...a membrane or something?! I don't remember. So...every year, I'm having to spend a couple hundred dollars on maintenance, and every 2nd year, I'm having to spend OVER $500!! In Maintenance. Give me a break! During the installation, some water got on our basement ceiling (sheetrocked) and caused a stain. They subcontracted someone to come fix that, but not until we called. After we had the system in for a year, and they came out to do their annual maintenance, we started getting another stain on our basement ceiling, this one in a different spot. I didn't know what to attribute it to, but eventually we tracked it down to the tap they made for the RO. It was leaking. I fixed it, and I fixed the stained sheet rock. It had been months since they had been out by this point, and I wasn't going to fight them on it. But shortly after that, the RO quit working altogether. It no longer held 3 gallons. More like 6 ounces. So they came out to fix it. Tried charging me for a "service call" but did us SUCH a FAVOR by waiving that charge. Really?! It's under maintenance and you caused the problem to begin with! And when they left, it still didn't work. This happened two more times....a tech would come out, mess with the RO, say he fixed it, and it would end up not being fixed. On the final visit, they told me that it was because the tap to the water line wasn't big enough....that they would have to put in a full blown faucet. I asked them why it worked fine for the first year, until they messed with it? He couldn't answer. I asked them to explain that if it required a larger tap, why one wasn't installed to begin with? And why they were now trying to charge me for installing one? Their reply was that they start with the small tap, which is free, because often that is good enough. But that if a larger tap is needed, they have to charge for that, and they don't want to charge customers right off the bat for something they may not even need. Fair enough, but still sounds like the ol' bait and switch to me. Get the systems installed, then start charging the ever living $#!+ out of them! Eventually, I got the RO to hold more than 6 ounces, probably closer to 1.5 or 2 gallons, but it still isn't right. Makes funny thumping noises. And I refuse to have them charge me for work that *should* be covered under warranty. I'll figure it out myself or have another company service it. Now...for the good news. The servicemen are always....ALWAYS....courteous and on time. They sincerely *try* to be helpful. But they weren't getting it done. At least when it came to the RO. They always called before getting there. Whoever sets up the appointments is always, always kind and courteous. When I called to complain about the RO, or the water damage, whoever answered was always kind and courteous. The water softener (water "conditioner") is awesome. Expensive, but awesome. Is it worth every penny? I don't know. It was expensive. Especially when you see water softeners at Lowe's for $400. I know...I know...apples and oranges. But still. Would that have been sufficient for our needs?! I don't know. So...their customer service and their servicemen are professional and they're nice. But....MAN they charge a lot. And the fact that this was all sort of mentioned off-hand ("Oh, and....you'll have to have annual maintenance done on the systems to keep them running perfectly, but that's not that much")...I don't know. It would be worth learning to do the maintenance myself and finding the replacement filters myself. Right now, I'm sort of at a crossroads. I might continue to have APW come out and do the annual maintenance (but NOTHING else!!) for the remainder of the warranty period, or I might contact Puronics and find out who their OTHER authorized service centers are and give them a try. Or....I might just wait until the warranty period is over and start doing regular maintenance on these systems myself. But I will never, EVER call APW to do any NEW work in my house. When I put in a tankless water heater, I will NOT be going through them! And if ever my water conditioner or RO system happens to come up in conversation, or if I ever meet anyone thinking of getting one, I will warn them loud and clear to stay away from APW.

We had some ups and downs on getting it installed, which was not really their fault. It was going to go under the sink, but we decided we would rather have it put in the basement. So they had to come back because they had to order some special tubing. When they came back with the correct tubing, we discovered the actual faucet that dispenses the reverse osmosis was the wrong color, so we had to order the correct color. They came back again to install the right color faucet. They did a good job and were easy to work with, and were prompt and courteous.
