Horrible experience!! I've used them 2 previous times and they were great. But under new ownership, the new owner is astoundingly hateful, called me a "liar" and referred to our damage claim as a "fairytale of a list" on our very 1st call. It's been 3+ months w/no resolution. Now she says she will only pay the repair company that she chose, and not us, even tho we have told her we plan to get items refinished/painted in a different color and wish to apply repair payment to that since we wouldn't be doing this had they not damaged our stuff. Every moving company out there will have damage claims, its how they handle their customers issue AFTER the move that speaks volumes. I would avoid this company at all costs!! If anything goes wrong, you sadly will be cussed at and accused of lying by this owner. DISGUSTING treatment by someone we've given money to not once, but 3 different times! And worst of all, she nearly encourages you to leave bad reviews and take things legal if mentioned.

DO NOT USE!!! Gerber's owners subcontracted my move from KC to Denver to a freight company without having the discussion or disclosing their practices. They damaged most all of my wood and metal furniture, scratched multiple leather pieces, soiled several upholstered pieces, cracked a coffee table beyond repair, damaged a floor lamp beyond repair and took chunks of wood out of a bookcase. Most all but a dining set was brand new and in perfect condition. They promised on the phone as my damaged furniture arrived, to have all of my items repaired to "better than new" condition, which isn't even possible. Now that they have my money, they will not release the repair company to do the work. The freight company's movers who arrived at my new home in Denver damaged the walls and wood trim of the home and the workers reeked of marijuana. The movers had such poor judgement and were physically unable to deliver my furniture in the condition it was In KC. I've since heard from reputable realtors in the KC area that since the original owner died, this company has been ruined by the current Gerber family who now run the operation. Do yourself and your furniture a favor and save the heartache. Hire and pay for competence vs. smooth talkers who over promise and under deliver, and then want to send you to their claims handler! The only remediation option now is taking them to court.

I was not happy with the packing of my home. Left tape rolls, paper, items through out the home. Many items that should have been packed by the packers were left and had to be addressed by the moving crew. Items were packed (liquid candle) that should not have been that luckily was detected before loading on the truck and fortunately did not break. Other items were not packed in a way to prevent damage. The moving crew which loaded the trucks and unloaded them were hard working, courteous, and provided excellent service. Both loading and unloading days were extremely hot days and they did not let it affect their performance. The packing crew missed many items but the loading crew handled everything and made sure it was not left behind. They also took extra precautions to protect and not damage the new floor coverings installed in the home I was moving into.

I called up Gerber Moving and explained that I needed their services to move to another home 1 mile away. He told me he was the owner and would treat us right. Gerber Moving and Storage, Inc. is approximately 15 minutes from my home. Their office said the men left with a truck at 8am, but they did not arrive until after 9:25am. At the end of the day the owner tried to bill me starting at 8am and said that I had to pay from the minute that they left the office. I am ok with this if they had came straight to the house, but 1 hour and 25 minutes for a 15 minute drive. When confronted with this he signed and dropped the charges from starting at 8am to 8:30am. The men improperly handled the furniture when loading it into the truck. They carried dressers with full drawers by the tops which bowed the top of the 2 dressers. Mike indicated that the glass table top was wrapped improperly since they only wrapped it in a blanket and taped it. While moving they let the glass table top slide to the floor. It was unpacked all scratched up. When confronted about this the older man argued with us about best practices. He told us how many years he had been moving, making our requests for drawer removal invalid. Most of the bedrooms and dining room furniture had some form of damage. The leather couches were loaded into the truck on their sides with no padding under, making scratches from the wood floor. The older man complained in front of my wife and I about the third young man many times to us. The young man was doing fine when I watched him, although we could tell he was not as strong, he hung in there. In the middle of the move the men took about a 45 minute lunch break. The movers only worked until 3:30pm. So they actually worked 9:25am to 12:30 then 1:15 to 3:30pm. That's 5 hours, had they arrived on time and worked straight thru they would have been done about 1:30pm instead of 3:30pm. I had another storage unit about a half a mile that we also moved. I offered to pay them to stay if they wanted to work more. They were not interested in working more that day. But they made me pay for the time they took lunch. Had they showed up on time, lunch would not have been needed because of the small load. I gave Gerber an F for COST because we believe that we should not have been charged for more than 30 minutes travel from their business address and for their 45 minute lunch. When the men were done, we discussed with them some of the damages we all saw at the time. The lead man acknowledged the issue and agreed to write on the pay invoice the details of the kitchen table damage and the damage to the master bed headboard. After they left, we did a detail review of the damages to our furniture. This was the first time we moved with this furniture and it was in only about 1 year old at the time of the move. My wife called Gerber Moving and Storage up and requested to speak with them about the damages. The first two times she spoke with Mike, he was mean, condescending, and rude. The first time he said that he would have Bearclaw ( a repair man ) schedule an appointment and look at the damages. A couple weeks later no one called, so my wife called and spoke with Mike a second time. He said he never spoke with her and that she would need a claim form. Mike also said that if anyone would have spoken to me they would have sent the claim form. My wife pointed out, she obviously spoke with someone, otherwise how would she know the name 'Bearclaw?' She reminded him that he said he would send Bearclaw and how would she know to make this up? He quickly ignored this point and sent the claim form to her email. Mike came to the house and took pictures of the damages. I was there because of how rude he had been to my wife in the past. He started by apologizing for being rude over the phone. He explained that he had a bad day both times and should not have taken it out on her. Now some time has pasted with no communication from Gerber Moving & Storage and we received a letter today. They stated that the damages were pre-existing and not a result of their handling services, and included a check for $75.00 for compensation repair of the head board. My wife quickly called them up, she reminded them that we have the signed invoice document from the lead worker assuming responsibility for more damages.

We personally visited the premises of [member name removed] and attempted to take responsibility for the damage we believed we had a part in which was the headboard. In our opinion we took responsibility for that damage and reimbursed the customer accordingly. All other alleged damage in our opinion was prexisting and not our responsibility. It is our policy to provide quality service at a fair price and our PLUS NINETY YEARS in business is a testament to that policy.

Called on Monday to get a moving bid and informed dispatch/scheduler we had specific dates we needed to move because we were signing over our house. He scheduled a bid for Thursday. Bid appointment was on time. Received an email on Friday stating that those times were booked and they'd be happy to do it the following week. A full/near full schedule could have been handled over the phone on Monday. Instead I wasted 4 days.

Mike is the grandson of the founder I believe. He knows his profession. He was very patient, knowledgeable, and attentive to details. His estimate was actually the least expensive of the three we received from A.A. Arnold, Gerber, and Untied. I felt he would have done a good job shipping our goods but we went with United instead. I would recommend you consider Gerber though for an estimate. They seemed honest, experienced, and competent.

Mike Gerber rarely returned phone calls or emails after the move. It was like pulling teeth to get them to reimburse us for broken items. I had a treadmill that was improperly taken apart for the move and subsequently broke when re-assembled. Mike Gerber told me that his insurance would not cover the repair, but in the name of good faith, he would cover half of the cost of the repair. When I received a check from the company they subtracted the insurance deductible. W**?? Of course no one returned my phone call or email.

Mike, drove to Manhattan to view my household items to give me a bid. We did the packing of the small household item and they packed the larger items. Staff was friendly and hard working, got the job done on a timely basis. Delivery was on time and arrived in good shape with no damage noted. Very professional in all aspects of this difficult occupation and I would use them again. Regarding the price...you always want a cheaper price, but with no damage and quick service they we well worth the money.

The company arrived with fewer containers than they estimated to be use. During the the course of this hot day, even though we gave them a case of water, they started to argue amongst tehmselves and threatening to kill each other, we closed ourselves into a bedroom and prayed that our lives would not be in danger. After they threw stuff into an overly packed truck, stored and redelivered, most of our things were broken or damaged. No response from the company.

They arrived promptly on time, giving us 30 minutes notice for arrival. They were allotted 2 hours by the company and finished early. Followed our directions precisely. Finished the job early and agreed to do one more task for us.
Description of Work: There were two movers assigned to our task. Both veterans of the trade. They simply needed to move all the contents of two bedrooms to opposite parts of the house. This involved at least 4 pieces of heavy furniture to collapse, move, and reconstruct. Moving from one floor of the house to the other.

The price from Gerber was competitive and we set the date for the move. I met their two movers at my parent's home in Topeka on that date (right on time) and in less than 15 minutes the piano had been moved into their truck. The workers were knowledgeable and handled the piano with care. They drove straight to my home in Lenexa and again in less than 15 minutes, had the piano moved in. Quick service, on time, at the agreed upon price. A great experience, highly recommended.

We selected Gerber from among three estimates (all from firms rated highly on Angie's list) based on price and their responsiveness during the estimating process. Packing was completed on schedule by a very helpful and responsive crew. Although a crate for the flat screen TV was included in the estimate, it wasn't provided until I called to request it. Loading was completed on time by a crew of six, on a Tuesday. Having been assured by Gerber that we would be able to unload in CT on Friday of the same week, we made arrangements with the seller of our new home, our CT real estate agent, and our CT attorney to close on the new house early Friday morning. After these arrangements were complete and packing had begun Gerber let us know that they had checked with the people who would be handling the unloading in CT and discovered that they would not be able to unload until Monday. When the truck arrived on Monday Gerber supplied a crew of only three to unload, including one high school student. The crew worked very hard and were very helpful, but unloading took two days. There were a number of issues: 9 items arrived damaged (including three I forgot to report on the insurance claim to Gerber). The most serious were a cafe dining table (pedestal separated into two pieces by shearing off the bolts that held it together) and a cherry dining chair (leg splintered and separated from seat). The unloaders tore one of the screens on the porch when unloading the porch furniture. All of our hanging clothes were packed in the laydown wardrobes usually used for military moves, rather than the conventional hanging wardrobes we've always had for long-distance moves. Our clothes arrived wadded up at one end of a box, thoroughly wrinkled. There were several instances where screws used to assemble furniture and other items had vibrated free, requiring reassembly. The unloaders did a good job of locating miscellaneous hardware on the floor of the van. The van scraped a large section of bark from one of the trees at the front of our property. After the second request Gerber sent an insurance claim form, which I have submitted. They indicated that the amount of damage I was reporting was normal for a move of our size. I would have expected them to aim to complete the move without damaging anything.
Description of Work: Gerber supplied packing, moving, and unloading for our relocation from the Kansas City area to the New Haven, CT area. This was a large move--more than 450 inventoried items, about 21,000 pounds, filling an entire 53' trailer. This was our third interstate move and fourth move handled by professional movers.

We admit to having some service issues but feel we performed the overall moving service very well. The claim submitted by the customer was processed within seven days of receiving the claim. The move date occurred June 28th and this is the most difficult time of year to perform. We would like to thank him for his business and if we can do anything to improve his experience with our company we will gladly comply. We strive to maintain our A rating with all agencies and we take our reputation very seriously.

They showed up exactly on time and were very careful with our things. Nothing was scratched, dented or damaged in any way including walls and doorways of either house . They worked steadily and efficiently. This was our first time to use a mover and it was a very positive experience. I'd use this company again without hesitation.

We scheduled service about 30 days in advance. They provided a quote for everthing and we asked if we could see how much packing we would get done ourselves (over the holidays) and let them know if we needed help a day in advacne and they were very flexible and said that would befine. We ended up doing most of the packing and only neded a little help with fragile items. The day before the move, they sent one guy to help us pack. On the day of the move they arrived on time, were extremely fast and efficient and moved everything without a hitch....even though we were in the midst of extremely cold and snowy conditions. We came in way under estimate, but we did do packing ourselves and had them move less items than originally estimated. We would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: They moved 3 bedroom residence and piano from loft in midtown to house in overland park. They also provided some help packing some of the more difficult/fragile items.

The two movers were prompt and professional. This move was challanging because the piece was very heavy and the stairs were off a narrow foyer providing limited room to maneuver the armoire. The first attempts failed and the men considered other options. With presistence and determination, they were able to get the armoire upstairs flawlessly. They were a marvel to watch.

I have moved often and my experience with Gerber was better than most. They packed up and moved a residence in Lawrence and a residence in Lenexa to a home in Leawood in four days. We saved some money by pre-packing content. In general, the moving crew handled content more carefully and professionally than the packing crew. You can expect some members of the packing crew to help themselves to soda out or your refrigerator, or to make comments to you about the quality of your things. Some of the comments were distressing to my wife, who was moving her recently deceased mother's home. They were well-meaning, but unwelcome considering the circumstance. However, we experienced very few broken items and the quality of packing seemed to be good. Mike Gerber is a standout when it comes to customer service. He kept in phone contact with me, managing my expectations well. He arranged to have boxes and packing materials delivered before the moves, so we could pack some content ourselves. After the moves, he arranged to come back and pick up a considerable amount of empty boxes and packing material and haul them away. All in all, well done. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Mike prepared free estimates for packing and moving, touring the houses with me. Gerber then packed and moved selected content from both houses to a third residence.

It was a very smooth move. The two men that moved the piano worked quickly and had the piano out of one house and into mine in a very reasonable time. They estimated that they would be there from 2-4 and showed up about 2:30, which I thought was very good. I called on a Friday and got an appointment for the move on Tuesday - a very reasonable time frame, in my opinion. They were courteous, efficient and careful.
