Dave and his crew did a fantastic job. Very professional, thorough, and careful. The color consultation was so helpful, and we are thrilled with how great our house looks! It feels like a new house! Dave even built us shutters based off a photo we sent him. He and his crew hung the shutters and our exterior light fixtures at no extra cost. We highly recommend Dave the Painter and will use him for any future projects.

The work was done fast and it showed, many rooms showed that they had not primed the walls, the woodwork started chipping and peeling off after a week, probably not prepped properly. All the light fixtures, door knobs and hinges had paint on them. Our newly refinished floor got paint sprayed all over them. Two windows were cracked and never repaired. They painted over time work in the bathroom, painted a window shut. They came back two times to try and "fix" their mistakes. I would not recommend for interior painting, maybe they're better at exterior?
Description of Work: Interior wallpaper removal and painting. 4 bedrooms, 1 powder room, hallways, living room, study, dining room and trim work.

Response from Dave The Painter
Let me respond to this by first stating that I agree with some of the items in this review and some I do not agree with. This work was completed for a general contractor that this reviewer hired to do some renovations on a 100 year old home that they had just purchased and was prior to their occupancy of the home. I know that this customer was very dissatisfied with this contractor who hired me to do the painting part of the project because things were very behind schedule and they were pushing him to finish so they could move in. I did not have any direct communication with these homeowners and was never notified by this contractor that they were dissatisfied with the overall painting. With any job completed for a contractor there is touch at the end and we return a couple of times to address damages and issues that may have been caused by other subs etc. There was no new drywall in the home - all walls had been previously painted so there was no need to apply a separate primer to the walls. Most of today's paints have a primer built in anyway to help with coverage. They chose a very light white color for the walls and multiple coats were required to get it to cover properly. That is the way it goes with certain colors. Some of the trim paint did peel - although they were primed and sanded and sprayed with an oil base enamel. There was clearly an issue with a surface contaminant that caused peeling in some locations. That is not uncommon on a house that is that old and had been painted that many times. We did return to sand down those areas and apply a special bonding primer prior to repainting. There was no real way to foresee this happening - sometimes things don't go as planned but I always return to take care of issues and feel that is what separates a good business from a bad one. I do take ownership of problems and mistakes and always apologize and fix them. Also we received a lot of blame for paint on door hinges and door knobs that had been painted dozens of times over the life of this house and perhaps the homeowners didn't notice it when they initially purchased the home. We did work to clean off paint from the door hardware most of which was not ours. The door knobs were very ornate though and difficult to cover properly and perhaps a better solution would have been to remove them and reinstall them after painting - if I had it to do over again that is how we would have handled the situation. There was one window that was painted shut from the outside (we only did interior painting at this job) but we did manage to get it unstuck as a favor for the homeowner at touchup. The floor situation had a little overspray in the upstairs hallway due to a last minute decision from the homeowner to paint all the ceilings in the house the day before they were set to move in. The contractor had about 12 other people working in the house and the homeowner was also present yelling at everyone. We were tasked with pulling all my workers from other jobs and putting up plastic to paint the ceilings in all rooms throughout the house while other workers would move it to walk through and try to complete their work... and the homeowner would move it to walk around and push everyone to hurry and finish. This was not part of the original deal and was an added project with a very difficult time frame to complete it in one day with all the other subcontractors in our way. It was not an ideal situation and all the people walking around and moving our plastic caused some overspray on the floor in the upstairs hallway. In hindsight we should have refused to do that with all the traffic in the house and offered to return when things were less hectic. We also returned and worked to clean that overspray off the floor in the upstairs hall. I had worked for this contractor over a period of a few years and he was constantly behind schedule and constantly had angry homeowners by the time we arrived to the job. He was also very poor at answering his phone and handling customer complaints. i have since ceased all work for this contractor as his disorganization and poor customer skills were clearly affecting my name and my business It was a hard decision because he was a friend of mine and we go to church together, but it was a decision that was for the overall good and was best for my business. I sincerely apologize that these homeowners had a bad experience - I had very little communication with them and wish they would have at least tried to contact me to let me know they were dissatisfied. I would have gladly returned to take care of any issues that they had. They never called or emailed me directly through this whole process. The price listed above is inaccurate as well as that must have been what they paid the contractor... my fees were paid to me by him and were quite a bit less than the price listed above. I do feel that it is unfair that I can be reviewed on price and responsiveness, professionalism, etc from a person that I never had any communication with. All lines of communication were between the homeowner and the contractor. This review is not reflective of how I run my business - I work hard everyday on each job site to make sure that every homeowner is happy and satisfied with the process before we leave. I have since become very cautious about which contractors I provide services for and no longer work for the one involved with this project.

Description of Work: Prompt and courteous service. Sent a color consultant to make sure we would be fully satisfied with the colors we chose. Very fast and meticulous in detail. Trim painted all the way around the house. Bid included paint. Couldn't have been more pleased. Excellent work. We LOVE the finished product.

The house and the deck look FANTASTIC! Dave did everything perfectly. His crew were really great too. Nice guys! Neighbors I don't even know have been stopping by to tell me how great the house looks. Dave also worked hard to try to get the job in with all the recent rain. He did a final walk around with me and he would not leave until he was satisfied the job was perfect and I was happy. Dave also gave me several paint options. The original quote was around $2,300.00 but I wanted him to strip the old paint from the deck and re-stain it. I also upgraded to Sherwin-Williams Duration after reading the reviews on the internet. The total price was $3,325.00. Dave lives in Gardner and I am happy my money went into the local economy. I highly recommend Dave the Painter!
Description of Work: Dave and his crew power washed the house and the deck, removed the old plastic shutters, caulked all nail holes and seams, painted and trimmed the house and re-stained the deck. Dave provided all supplies and purchased the paint. Dave also paid for a Sherwin-Williams paint consultant (Melissa) to come to my home to help me choose the colors.

About a month after estimate and okay to go ahead with work we received an email from Dave that they could start that day. They started and were done the next day. They did not mess around, they show up and work hard. The work was top notch and they were easy on my yard. When the work was completed Dave did a walk around with us making sure we were happy and we were. Cost came in exactly at the estimate. Great work and a pleasure to deal with.

He is awesome! Most companies only paint the trim on the front of the house (ignoring the sides and the back) because it is a cost saver. Dave painted the front and the side trim and it looks so much better because of it. He is very thorough and uses good quality paint. Another reason we liked him so much is because of his timeliness, he came and stayed until the work was finished. After the job was done he said he'd be back in a week and in the mean time that we should look for any spots he might have missed and he'd touch those up when he returned. He is amazing!
