From first contact to quote to completed installation everything went extremely well. Performed what was by far the most thorough and complete review of property and existing system taking about two hours for examination while others took less than 1/2 hour. When others said we would be limited by our existing ductwork, Control Tech showed us how a few improvements in that ductwork would make a great difference in temp and air quality. Contract went smoothly with full review of options available and detailed spec sheets for all equipment. Techs arrived in a timely fashion each of the four days it took to complete the installation. Techs were very polite and professional. Made sure everything was cleaned up at the end of each day. It was hard to tell they were here most of the time as they went about their work. A/C was off for only a few hours (it's July in Indiana!) and we really appreciated that. Techs were thorough in explaining new wireless thermostat set up and functionality. Best experience we've ever had for such a major system redo!! Found them through the Costco services program. Would positively recommend them and will use them for on-going system service.
Description of Work: Installed complete new furnace, air conditioner, humidifier, air cleaner, thermostat and modified/added to existing ductwork.

This company has been one of the biggest hassles to work with! They did not honor anything about the price that was on original invoice . Without approval adding " extra parts" that were not signed for approved. The technician threaten and took advantage of my girlfriend. This company has been rude and unhelpful every time we have reached out to resolve the billing issue on 4 occasions. The manager of the location did nothing but show arrogance and unwillingness to listen. So a year later we are still having to deal with their unprofessional and incompetent customer service. The only way you should choose this company is if you want to have two different techs come out and give different amounts for the same repair! Shady at best!

Induction motor broke this morning. Called Control Tech around 9am and they had a tech out at 1pm (an hour earlier than promised). Technician came out and confirmed entire assembly needed replacement, not just the motor. This was not unexpected from research done prior to their arrival. He left to get the parts, returned and job was complete in about an hour. Couldn't have asked for a nicer, more professional technician. Price was slightly higher than expected, but within reason. Overall, I am very happy. I would not hesitate to use them again.

On January 3, the Friday before our major snowstorm and the same day I called about replacing our furnace, they sent two servicemen to our home to install that furnace so we did not risk using a furnace w cracks in the heat exchange. One man climbed on our roof which was covered w 6 inches of snow to install two vents...intake and exhaust. Another stayed until 10 pm to complete the installation for us. We cannot say enough about the service these men provided.

I'm a CPA currently going to law school....so I'm well versed in business and agency law and I can guarantee you what this service guy did to me is 100% illegal and wrong. And for that reason alone, I would never EVER use them again and I'm writing this review in hopes to warn others. Again, to make sure this is clear, as noted with an N/A in my ratings section, this review does not cover the actual quality of work done itself. This is largely because the problem we were having (as explained below) is only apparently in the spring. So, we have not yet had enough time to know whether or not the problem was actually fixed or not. So, although I do not have a ton of confidence at this time, I will not know for sure whether the issue was resolved until next April. This review, hoever, is over what I do know and that is that the service guy working on my AC, and by extension the compnay he represents as an acting agent, is shady and immoral to say it midly. The issue we were having is with the AC unit in a 3 story townhome we now (for a year now) have been using as a rental. Our problems with the AC go back for over 3 years however. The problem is the AC runs fine during the spring and summer, and then obviously it isn't used during the winter. So, when spring rolls around again all and it is stime to turn on the AC, it doesn't blow cold air. We went with company X the first few years we had this problem, but after having the same issue happen year after year, and after paying that compnay over $400 during the course of that time, we finally decided that HVAC company didn't know what it was doing. So, I got on this website and found a compnay that seemed to have a lot of good reviews. Control Tech wasn't the first choice (or the 2nd or 3rd)...but, since it was hot and I have renters in there, I needed somebody to address the issue quickly, and luckily (sort of) Control Tech was able to immediately service my call. At the time I was extremely grateful for how qiuck they were to get out. Not only did they get out ASAP, but he was waiting on me when I got there. However, that's about where the positives end. Long story short...the service guy takes about an hour (stopping to light 3 cigs along the way) and tells me he can't determine what is causing it. He said the AC had plenty of freon, so that wasn't the reason for the warm air. He also said he noticed the AC switch in the breaker box had been tripped and that could be the only problem. But everything else, for the most part, looks good. While he admitted he didn't know what caused it and can't be sure if it will help, he went on to tell me that he noticed by electic breaker switch had the wrong amps (30 instead of 20 like it says on the AC). He said that wasn't to code and the builder shouldn't have used it. He also said he "thinks the other AC compnay (from prior services) used a wrong part" and recommended I replace that part. My response to this was that "I don't think I want to pay to have these parts changes on a guess of his that it might/could be the problem"....ESPECIALLY after he himself admitted it was likely that something just tripped the AC unit in the breaker box and the only fix needed was to switch over the breaker switch. Easy. So, I told him I had to think about it and stepped over to the side of the house to call my dad (more informed that me on this stuff) to get his advice. He didn't answer, so I tried a few more times and ended up leaving a message with him. By the time I came back over, I told the tech (who appeared to be fixing what he pulled apart and cleaning up his mess at the time) that I'd wait a few minutes for my dad to call back. At which point he says....well, I already put it on. My response - "why? I didn't say I wanted you to." His response - "Well, you're going to need to do it eventually anyway." My response - Maybe. Maybe not. That's my call. How much does it cost...you never told me that either." His reponse - basically was to say a few hundred for this a few hundred for that.....all to equal $500! My response - "I'm not paying for that. I didn't authorized you to do that and I don't agree to pay that. So you can take off whatever you did and put it back to the way you found it. This is a rental and you yourself said it might be fine, so I don't want to, nor do I feel I need to, pay for that." His reponse - something to the effect of "Well, that's fine, I can take it off and replace it for you. But, that's going to take some time and I'm going to bill you for that. And, included in that $499 price was a discount on time since you're paying for the extra services. So, if you don't take those parts and don't pay that money, you're not going to get a discount on the 2 hours I've already been here....and by the time I end up with doing everything, your bill will be almost as much as it is just to leave it the way it is now". I couldn't believe it! I literally couldn't believe it. That guy literally was trying to play me just to get an upsale. Legally, The only thing I owed him is whatever the bill rate was to that point minus whatever time he put in changing out those parts. That's it. I know better. I knew it then and I know it now. That would have only been about $130 bucks, tops. What he did...the way he did the services without me agreeing to it, the way he did it and threatened to charge me to undo it....KNOWING I didn't give the okay to begin with, and for him to try to intimidate me into having him undo it all....using money and pricing to pressure the whole situation, was not only wrong and immoral, but it isn't legal and no court in america would have defended them. Even though the law was/is on my side and even though I wanted to punch the guy out on principle.....the fact that I just had a death in the family, was settling into our new house, and that my wife was pregnant with our second child, I didn't have the time or patience to get into it with him personally or legally. So, even though I'm never a guy to give in, I swallowed deep and said fine. Against my principles and against what I would normally do. But the biggest reason I did it was because I literally felt like (at that point) I'd rather eat the extra $300 and get that shady creep out of my house and face that to have to have this conforntation with him and have somebody so shady keep working on my house. This conforntation actually went on for a few minutes. Even though I'm legally trained and even though I don't have issues being confrontational and standing up for myself when it is deserved, and even though I am a bigger guy (played division 1 college football as a linebacker) I found the whole situation quite awkward and uncomfortable. I literally paid the bill to get him out of there and because (as our arguement unfolded) I didn't trust to to work on the house anymore.....how was I going to trust this shady creep to not only take off his new parts but to put my parts back on properly when I 'm insisting I won't be paying for it??!!!! I couldn't, so I paid. Moral of the story.....time will tell if the problem is fixed. I still don't know if my $499 spent even fixed the problem yet...that's the really sad thing. But, even if it does....even if God himself told me everything that guy did as far as the repair goes was needed and justified, to charge $500 (above market value for what he did) the way he did it is corrupt a disgusting. And if he has no problem doing that to me...a 6'3" somewhat educated guy....I can only imagine how this compnay treats the uninformed female customers. I'm willing to bet they just get absolutely victimized. To add to that.....the guy has a very high and strict billable rate...which is fine. People good at what they do should be able to get paid for it...obviously. But, I saw this guy stopping to get smokes a few times. I also timed him as he spent 8 mins looking for a part in his van. The above explained issue aside, I thought the amount of time he billed me for was unfair anyway. Also, the lady on the call said the charge to have him come look at the issue and evaluate it was $90 (that may not be the exact number, but piont is she gave me a quote for the assessment visit). Then, during that confrontation I asked the guy about why the labor quote was so high since it conflicted with the quote the lady I called said.....and the guy's response was "that's for the first hour only". Perhaps that was just an honest mistake by the call lady....perhaps she failed (by mistake only) to tell me that quote covers only the first hour. But, perhaps not. Perhaps they give you that number to get them out there, this guy takes his sweet time, and then bam, they make an extra few bucks off you while they are at it. Regardless of how good they may or may not be, I'm a man of integrity and respect. I do not treat my clients the way they treated me, and I dang sure don't give my business to people who treat me that way. Yes, I paid the $499 bill, and yes the jury is till out on whether or not that money was a total waste or not - perhaps I'll never know), but regardless of that, the way this guy did me was dirty and shady and I wouldn't trust them for a second in any sort of buisness trasaction...especially in something like HVAC repair where the average homeowner doesn't have enough HVAC or Legal background to keep them honest. The only reason I waited 6 months to rate this co. is because I was trying to put off the evaluation until next April to see if the AC issue is in fact fixed. I suspect it won't be...and I'll be sure to update this evaluation (or add a new one) if it isn't. But, like my brother said the other day (when I was venting about it again...still, over half a year later if that tells you how ticked I was on how this guy did me dirty), he said the longer I wait to evaluate this co. the longer they will be out there doing the same thing to others. Don't trust them!

Contacted several (4 or 5) companies for quotes when my old furnace signed off for good. I like options and Control Tech was the only place that gave me several choices of both furnace-side and A/C-side choices as well as which would work with which and what furnace would be able to make the corresponding A/C unit meet its maximum SEER rating. They were very helpful in determining whether the extra couple of percent in efficiency was worth it for me or not, as well as pricing out some good ol' 80% options. Every other place gave me a quote that said, in effect, "This furnace, this A/C unit, that's what you need", even after I asked for choices. Not only did they give me the choices, but they came in lower than everyone else. Ended up with a Trane system that had a more inexpensive 95% efficient furnace option coupled with a beefed up A/C unit. Being somewhat of an emergency (December and no functional furnace), they hooked me up in an acceptable amount of time. They replaced the rusted out plenum that was set into the concrete and got everything in place over the course of 1 day. They came back in the spring to commission the A/C. I also signed up for a duct cleaning. All in all, I'm happy with what I got for what I paid. My winter was warm, my gas bill was way down from my old 80% furnace, my A/C was less expensive over the summer due to components that weren't 30+ years old. What might you get if you pay more elsewhere? I'm happier with the price I paid than I am unhappy with the fit and finish of the insulation they put on everything. My furnace is in the garage and I don't care if it's ugly, but the (FUNCTIONAL) end result may or may not have made it into the book of "How They Did It/How We Do It" another company showed me of how nice their end result looks. That other company also came in with an estimate no less than $1000 over what I paid. And, for what it's worth, they were happy to leave me the old system so I could scrap it for $.

Control Tech was very prompt in setting up an appointment. While making the appt., the dispatcher requested we double check some things like the circuit breaker to rule out a simple fix that didn't necessitate a service call. Since that wasn't the issue, we went forward and requested an appt. for the following morning. We received a phone call stating the technician could come earlier in the morning if it was ok by us (which it was) and the technician arrived promptly. He was courteous and professional. He checked the system and determined the thermostat had stopped working. He pointed out some corrosion from the battery backup inside the thermostat and said that may have played a part. The thermostat needed to be replaced. He suggested we replace the batteries annually regardless to prevent possible corrosion. The existing thermostat was replaced with a Honeywell FocusPro TH6000 series (3 buttons on the side and 3 on the bottom). This thermostat is not touch screen or WiFi which would have cost more. The technician installed it promptly and the furnace is functioning again. I thought the cost of the thermostat was high. I realize I'm paying for labor in the price, but still it seems a little high. I don't think this particular thermostat costs more than $70-80, if that, so the rest is labor I would imagine? I also didn't expect to pay the $89 (before 15% discount) diagnostic travel fee since we had him to the work. Many other vendors waive the travel fee if you opt to have a service performed. So my total cost for a new thermostat was $311.74. That $311.74 includes a 15% discount for buying the scheduled maintenance agreement (which we did today for a separate $285.00 to cover 2 furnaces and 4 maintenance calls per year).
Description of Work: Our furnace wasn't turning on as necessary. As it turned out the existing thermostat had ceased functioning. The provider replaced the thermostat.

We appreciate your business and welcome your comments. It is best to replace the batteries in your thermostat and smoke detectors at least once a year. I replace all of my batteries each day light savings time change (twice a year). As far as diagnostic charge, most companies just figure the diagnostic charge into there repair cost and say they waive it if you make the repair. We do not do this but the cost always come out the same and/or very close. Thank you for your business and comments, feel free to call on us anytime. Alan

They are absolutely the best. I wished I had started using them sooner. They had to come in and make a repair to our current system that was improperly installed and probably should never have been installed by the original company. They have been very helpful in finding a solution. At one point, they sent out an HVAC designer and evaluated everything about our current system to determine if the furnaces were adequate for our load. Their expertise has been very impressive. They really took the time to help us with the situation. As a result, I have peace of mind that at least the right company is working on the situation.
Description of Work: We have used them since about 2011.
