Description of Work: Jeff Federspiel volunteered his help to fix a vent that had broken off the back of my house after a bad storm. My husband, who has cancer, and I were not able to climb a ladder to fix it. He knew what I needed to get and how to attach it to the house. It was much harder that I ever thought.

+ 0 moreOverall we were very pleased with the outcome. We love the sun tunnels. Dennis talked us out of several of them because they were nearly impossible to place where we wanted them. The only problem we had was 2 leaks that required small portions of drywall be replaced, along with a small section of wall paper (leaks were stopped, and these repairs done with no additional charge). He also had the dining room floor totally refinished because one of the leaks led to discoloration of a corner of the wood floor. Despite these leaks, we were very pleased with the overall quality of the work, and also very pleased with Dennis' diligence in making it all perfect.
Description of Work: It's hard to pick a single category because Dennis did so much work on my home. Roofing was probably the biggest part of the job, replacing all shingles on a very large roof with lifetime shingles. He installed 2 new Velux skylights in the back porch and 7 Velux sun tunnels. He repaired numerous spots where wood was rotted, including some of the roof decking. He vented 6 moisture fans (e.g. bathrooms, laundry room) through the roof (for the 22 years we've been in this house they were simply vented into the attic space, explaining why so much rotted wood). They replaced all guttering.

+ -1 moreBoth Dennis (on the phone) and Calvin (in person) were very professional, cordial, and fair. Calvin was apologetic about having to charge me the minimum $150.00 for the little work he did, but I felt that his work and the peace of mind I now have about our roof, were worth it. Calvin said the roof looks good - suggested starting to look for signs that the tiles are curling in about 2 to 3 years, especially just after winter. He mentioned the algae growth on the roof, and said it's popular (but expensive) to clean it off, and said he didn't recommend the cleaning. He said we have 2 layers of tiles now, and will need, by law, to have both removed when we replace the roof. He recommends that even if there's just one layer, because then they can look for structural damage in the walls. The company responded so quickly, the employees were so professional and fair. I will call them when we need to have our roof replaced.
Description of Work: We had a very slight leak around a bathroom vent pipe. We probably wouldn't have found it except that we had bathroom remodelers working when a huge storm came up. I spoke with Dennis on the phone and he was very helpful. Calvin came out within a couple hours, checked the whole roof, explained how the roof was tiled strangely around the bathroom vent pipe and how someone installing the lead boot had gotten overly ambitious with nails. He made repairs, using my lead boot and conserving my tiles so they didn't have to be replaced. He used a good sealant, and made the area around the vent pipe more waterproof than before.

Description of Work: Earlier this winter I noticed a stain in the ceiling going up the steps to my loft area. I called Dennis. He and Dennis Jr. came out the next day took a look and replaced the cedar siding on the outside going up to the second floor.

+ -1 moreAll in all, we are very pleased with their work and would recommend them for a skylight installation. We've since had rainy, snowy weather so no more grabbing a towel or bucket to catch the drops. Good job.
Description of Work: Dennis special ordered a replacement skylight because the current one was leaking. He and his son were very friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable in what needed to be done to remedy the situation. It took them a couple hours to install the skylight and came back to install trim along the inside skylight well to finish it off.

This job was done in late spring so we will see if the repair was successful when winter weather arrives.

Description of Work: Searched and found re-occurring leak in front of the house around a window. Leak baffled owner for some time. Dennis was able to find and ID the leak after about an hour. He also came back and fixed the issue a couple of days later (Too cold and wet to fix same day).

+ -1 moreDennis is a very nice man who is, by his own admission, a little too busy. It took 2 to 3 weeks after our initial contact for him to just get to the house to look at it and give me an estimate for the repairs. It was then almost another month before the work was actually done. In fairness to him, he did warn me upfront that they were very busy. He does seem to have done a good job, but if you are needing work done quickly, you might want to consider looking elsewhere.
Description of Work: Removal and installation of 8' of 1x6, removal and installation of 28' gutter, readjusting and attaching existing gutter and gutterboard, reattaching white fascia with white aluminum nails.

+ -1 moreI talked to owner Dennis Coffey on the phone before he came to do the estimate, and he seemed friendly, talkative and experienced. I believed they would be good for the job and was excited about the possibility of hiring them to do our roof replacement. He came out to do an estimate 2 days after I called. He provided me with only a business card at the time of the estimate and told me it would be a couple of days before I heard back. The estimate actually took 5 days. In person, he didn't provide much detail and seemed to be in a hurry to leave. I called later with a question and did not receive a call back. The estimate was lacking in detail, and they require money before beginning work. The estimate was the highest of 5 that I received from various companies. Due to the slow response time and lack of information provided (no brochures or flyers, no web site, no printed information except the vague estimate), I chose another company for the work.

+ -1 moreWe bought a home that we like to call "the money pit." It's extremely reminiscent of that movie. One of the "pits" was the skylight in our master bathroom. The single, oversized skylight was directly over a jacuzzi tub. We got several estimates. We asked each contractor what the pros and cons would be to #1-replace the skylight with another the same size (it'd be a custom order job) or #2-replace that one with 3 smaller ones, which would entail framing for each, etc. Dennis was the only one to give me the pros and cons of both. The other contractors just told me which choice they'd do...they didn't leave the choice up to us. Dennis and his son, and then Bruce, who did the finish painting, were all very easy to work with. All were very polite, respectful and considerate of the work environment. They left no mess behind whatsoever...just an awesome looking trio of skylights. I thank them for one less "pit" to worry about now!
Description of Work: We had an oversized single skylight over a jacuzzi tub that was leaking. There was no floor space anywhere around this tub, as you can see from the picture. Dennis carefully made a scaffolding type area on top of the tub in which to set up ladders, etc. The old skylight was removed, the three spots for the new skylights framed out and drywalled, the new skylights were installed, the exterior of the skylights were reshingled and then they "finished" the interior. The "finishing" included painting the inside drywalled areas of the skylights and then texturizing and repainting of the surrounding ceiling as well. While Bruce, the painter, was up on his ladder he noticed that we had a bulb out in our light fixture up in the corner. He asked if he could change that for me. I said, "Sure!" My husband and I hadn't got around to it because it meant dragging our 12 ft. ladder out of the garage and into the house. We'd been showering in the semi-dark for weeks.

It looks as wonderful as the roof, Dennis and his son Dennis came out at a time that was convenient for me so they could finish the inside part of the skylight after the roof was done. They moved some furniture and put everything back when they were done. They are both a pleasure to work with and true professionals.

My only small complaint was learning about the seemingly high prices of some extra parts of the job when receiving the bill, and not having them discuss the prices before the work was done. Dennis Coffey, his son, and the foreman are easy to work with and are trustworthy, "good guys."
Description of Work: They removed the old roof and replaced it with dimensional shingles. Several special aspects were completed, including designing flashing around the chimney, along the roof line, and developing specific fixes to former problems with water runoff and corner brick flashing.

+ -1 moreTHEY FOUND THE LEAK WITHIN 10 MINUTES, ABOVE THE WINDOW WHERE THE BRICK MEETS THE WINDOW THERE WAS A GAP. THERE WAS NO PLACE FOR THE WATER TO GO, SO IT CAME IN AND RAN DOWN THE WINDOW. THEY FIXED THE LEAK THAT HAD LEAKED FOR TWO YEARS!!!
