Scheduled an appointment within two days. Service tech arrived on-time. He was pleasant, professional and diagnosed the problem as a stuck valve diaphragm. He replaced the diaphragm and tested the unit. A couple of days later, I turned the system on and it failed to shut-off. I had great difficulty turning the water supply off at the main valve and the water continued to spritz. When I asked for an immediate service call I was informed no one was available. I was not pleased with this delay but finally found a method to shut-off the water. The same tech who performed the initial repair arrived two days later and cleaned the parts in the valve unit. The system now operates properly. There was no estimated charge for the first service call and I was not charged for the follow-up which I thought was fair.

I called to get a quote and they were very prompt and professional (but not the cheapest option). They gave me an accurate time for when they would be able to get to us (about 3 week wait) and a quote that was EXACTLY what we ended up paying them. They completed the job within one day and there was almost no damage to our lawn. The next day one of the people from Barthuly came over to the house after work to explain how to use the programmable box. Several months later we are still thrilled with the product. To us, a company that does a great job and is true to their word is worth a little extra money.

Company winterized our irrigation system last autumn. When we started the system this spring, five sprinkler heads were leaking. The system worked perfectly well before it was winterized last year. The company refused to check the heads to determine whether they were damaged by the winterization blow out process or residual water that froze over winter. WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE HEADS, the company told me that the leaking was caused by all five heads being old and failing by coincidence all at the same time and would not do any warranty work. I find it hard to believe that five heads would all fail at same time because they were old. Three of the heads were on the same zone. In the past an occasional head might fail, but this was uncommon. It was not a pleasant experience.

MY NAME IS KEN BARTHULY, ONE OF THE OWNERS OF BARTHULY IRRIGATION, INC. I WANT EVERYONE WHO READS THIS ANGIE'S LIST MEMBER'S COMMENTS TO UNDERSTAND THE FACTS ABOUT THIS CUSTOMER'S COMPLAINT. I PERSONALLY COMMUNICATED WITH THIS CUSTOMER AND WAS DILIGENT IN TRYING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I SENT NUMEROUS EMAILS TO THIS CUSTOMER TRYING TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION TO THEM AND TRYING TO FIND RESOLVE. BECAUSE OF THE CUSTOMER'S PROFESSION, IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR US TO FIND A TIME TO TALK OVER THE PHONE. EVEN AFTER REQUESTING THE CUSTOMER CONTACT ME PERSONALLY, I NEVER RECEIVED A PHONE CALL OR VOICE MAIL. AFTER BEING CALLED A LIAR AND BEING TOLD THAT VIRTUALLY EVERYONE THAT WORKED FOR ME WERE BEING DISHONEST, I FELT IT WAS BEST TO LET THIS CUSTOMER GO. I WISHED THEM WELL (QUITE LITERALLY) AND EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT SOMETIMES IT JUST DOESN'T WORK OUT BETWEEN A CUSTOMER AND A VENDOR. I TOLD THEM THERE WERE NO HARD FEELINGS BUT WE HAD OBVIOUSLY MET AN IMPASSE. I FURTHER EXPLAINED THAT I WOULD VOID ALL INVOICES THEY HAD SEEN OVER THE YEAR (INVOICES THEY HAD YET TO PAY) AND WOULD NOT CHARGE THEM FOR ANY OF THE SERVICES WE HAD PROVIDED FOR THEM. I NEVER RECEIVED A CORRESPONDENCE OF ANY KIND FROM THEM AFTER MY LAST EMAIL, LET ALONE A THANK YOU FOR EATING $129.00. AFTER REVIEWING THIS CUSTOMER'S PAY HISTORY, WE CHRONICLED MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WHEN THE CUSTOMER HAD CALLED IN TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AN INVOICE. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WE HAD TAKEN OFF CHARGES IN AN EFFORT TO APPEASE THEIR COMPLAINTS AND KEEP THEM AS LOYAL CUSTOMERS. AS TO THEIR SPECIFIC COMPLAINT REGARDING THE SPRINKLER HEADS FAILING, I WON'T GO INTO AS MUCH DETAIL ON THIS RESPONSE AS I DID WHEN EXPLAINING IT TO THIS CUSTOMER. BUT, I WAS EXTREMELY THOROUGH WHEN DESCRIBING TO THEM THE REASONS WHY FIVE SPRINKLER HEADS COULD FAIL AT ONCE AND STILL HAVE NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH THE WINTERIZATION WE PERFORMED THE PRIOR YEAR. ALL OF THE SPRINKLER HEADS WERE BEYOND THEIR MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. IT IS NOT AT ALL UNCOMMON FOR THERE TO BE MULTIPLE SPRINKLER HEADS THAT FAIL AT THE SAME TIME. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN YOU INSTALL A SPRINKLER SYSTEM YOU ARE INSTALLING SPRINKLER HEADS OUT OF THE SAME BOX. MEANING SPRINKLER HEADS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED, ASSEMBLED AND INSPECTED ON THE SAME DAY. MORE THAN LIKELY THIS PARTICULAR PART OF THE SPRINKLER HEAD WAS ASSEMBLED BY THE SAME PERSON OR MACHINE. SPECIFICALLY, THE SAME PERSON OR MACHINE INSTALLED THE SEAL THAT THE CUSTOMER SAID WAS LEAKING. I'VE BEEN TO MANY MANUFACTURING PLANTS FOR SPRINKLER HEADS AND UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS VERY WELL. IT STANDS TO REASON THAT IF ONE OF THESE HEADS FAILS DUE TO A SEAL BEING PLACED AROUND THE NOZZLE INCORRECTLY OR IN A FASHION THAT WOULD ALLOW IT TO LEAK OVER TIME, THE PERSON/MACHINE WHO ASSEMBLED THAT SPRINKLER HEAD, MAY HAVE DONE THE SAME THING TO OTHER SPRINKLER HEADS THAT WERE IN THE SAME BOX. IF THAT'S THE CASE, IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE THAT ALL OF THESE HEADS WOULD FAIL AT THE SAME TIME. I AM BAFFLED AND FRANKLY, PERTURBED BY THIS PRIOR CUSTOMER'S ATTEMPT TO DAMAGE OUR REPUTATION BY MAKING STATEMENTS THAT ARE NOT TRUE. I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO READS THIS RESPONSE TO TAKE MY COMMENTS INTO CONSIDERATION BEFORE BELIEVING WHAT THIS PERSON HAS STATED. THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY... THE DIFFERENCE IN THIS CASE? ONE IS FICTION AND ONE IS FACT.

They were very professional. They were very fast, they had it done in one day. They explained everything very well. Overall very positive experience. The quote that they gave me was right on, they did not charge us any more. They were a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Their reputation was so strong that we felt that it was worth it.

We have an annual contract with them, however I can't recall what that is at this time. I do know that their price is reasonable. This company is very friendly and easy to work with.

The company prepared a quote which was comparable to the one subsequently accepted. The reasons for rejecting this company's bid were: a poorly thought out routing; less than necessary detail of the hardware that was needed to complete the job; and price of the system was higher than what we perceived to be a better system.

I bought a house that had an existing lawn irrigation system that had been turned off and capped several years ago. I asked Barthuly to check the system to see if it was viable. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very helpful about what would need to be done and the man who performed the work was professional, punctual and seemed very knowledgeable. I now have an operating irrigation system. I haven't received the bill yet, but I expect it to be in the $500 range.
Description of Work: Checked existing lawn irrigation system to determine working status. Reconnected the system, located the heads, tested the back flow device, replaced three defective heads, explained to me how the system works.

After having our irrigation system installed, we have had a few occasions where I wanted to have certain watering heads adjusted to different spray patterns etc. Barthuly's has been prompt to come out and make any adjustments that I wanted; they are always very friendly and professional and I am completely pleased with their service. I would recommend this company to everyone! Baryhuly's has also installed landscape lighting for us and their company does the treatment of our lawn for weeds and fertilization. All aspects of this company are wonderful.

Appointment was scheduled two weeks from call date between 8:00-10:00 AM. Tech arrived on-time. Conducted backflow test and repaired leak. This was my first experience with Barthuly but certainly not my last. I was very satisfied with the customer service at the office and the technician.

Barthuly was prompt and responsive over the telephone, calling back and following up when necessary. They sent Manuel to install a new control box (the previous box was 20 years old and in bad shape), replace a backflow preventer valve (busted when the home was winterized) and get the sprinkler system back in shape after many years of disuse by former owners. Manuel was very cordial and professional, explaining everything he was doing and allowing me to watch him work. We also ended up digging up three broken pipes due to the flubbed winterization process before we bought the home. He replaced the sprinkler heads and made adjustments based on our needs. The hourly rates quoted by the receptionist at Barthuly were fair, but Barthuly actually charged less that we were originally quoted.
Description of Work: Replace broken backflow preventer valve, install new control box, repair broken pipes and sprinkler heads. We were unable to get an estimate due to the unknown problems that couldn't be foreseen.

Excellent. They were right there when I needed them.
Description of Work: I have used their services for seven years with satisfaction. Recently, my sprinklers wouldn't shut off and I was faced with an angry neighbor early in the morning who was upset that I had flooded his yard. I called Barthuly. They tried to instruct me over the phone to get to the valve and shut it off. When I couldn't accurately find the valve, the owner drove over within 15 minutes and shut the system off, and explained to me how the valve works, and why it got stuck. I didn't expect this level of service, and I haven't even been charged for the visit.

Generally do a good job. Pleasant and courteous. Helped to repair a leak in the sprinkler when I first moved in. Bought their backflow buddy protector for the backflow valve to prevent it from freezing over after it broke the first year and I had to pay for it (would've been helpful to have known this when the sprinklers were turned on in the spring instead of having to repair the backflow in the fall). Seem to be really behind schedule this year with turning the sprinklers back on. I was on schedule for two weeks ago and my grass has turned brown with the hot weather. Gave them a call last week and they said they would be out for sure this week, but I called this week and they said they did not have me on the schedule. Confirmed that they'd be by next week for sure. We'll see how it goes. Guess I'll have to spend this weekend watering the lawn by hand!

Initially, I phoned Barthuly and asked them to mail me an operations manual, they said they would but didn't. I phoned again, and this time they sent the wrong manual. I also asked them to come out to turn on the system, and they said it would be in ten weeks. The following week, two men showed up in the middle of a thunderstorm. I asked one of them what they were doing, and they said they were checking for leaks...(in a rainstorm??). When I was having a deck added to my home, the contractor accidentally cut one of the sprinkler lines. I phoned Barthuly, and they sent out a repairman in two days. The man they sent was very nice. He was digging in mud even though he had good clothes on. When the leak was repaired, he tested the system and showed me how to set the controls. A few days later, I was near the location of their office and exchanged the operation manual. At this time they said they finally changed their files from the builder's name.
