Aztec Homes did a great work on the siding. In my opinion, they messed up the painting on the siding.
Description of Work: Aztec Homes replaced and painted the siding. They also did the window screens. They're basically doing some home repairs because of a hail damage.

Service went great, very pleased with the outcome. Between the installers and painters, they worked hard to get it all done. Getting a lot of compliments. Price was right compared to other siding companies.

We knew that we wanted to replace the old siding on our home, so we went to the Indianapolis Home Show to find a contractor that specialized in fiber cement board manufactured by James Hardie, Inc. We met Mike Dittmer, co-owner of Aztec Homes, who came to our home in the country near Greencastle, IN to discuss the scope of work to be performed and price. Mike Dittmer and his work crews exceeded our expectations both in terms of their outstanding craftsmanship but also their highly professional attitudes about customer satisfaction. Our experience with Aztec Homes was very positive from the beginning to the end, and we are delighted with the results. The crew responsible for removing the old siding and installing the new siding were very skilled and worked long hours to finish the job in a timely manner. The painting crew was equally well-skilled and paid great attention to details. We would not hesitate to recommend Mike Dittmer and Aztec Homes to anyone interested in improving the look of their home.
Description of Work: Aztec Homes removed all of the old vinyl siding from our home and replaced it with fiber cement board and painted the exterior including the porch. They also boxed in the porch posts and re-set a window for us.

Great experience. They were professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. They addressed the siding quickly and fixed what had been an ongoing problem for over a year. They took their time hanging a very large and heavy mirror in our dining room. I'm sure they could have done it quickly, but it was clear they were more concerned with doing it right and taking their time. We are very satisfied with their work and will be using them again in the future.

By chance, we had Aztec Homes owner, Ryan Oros, as our salesman and project manager for the siding replacement job on our house. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Ryan. Every crew that came out to work on our approximately 3 week job was very professional, friendly and clean. All of the crews were well scheduled to come in one after the next. Any questions were immediately responded to and addressed appropriately. Our energy savings is starting to become evident now with the colder weather, which is very nice. We love how our house looks and feel like we live in a new house sometimes!
Description of Work: We had our cedar siding and trim replaced with cement fiber board on our home. The house and detached garage, including all window frames and gutters, were then painted.

Aztec Homes Inc/Fiber Cement Siding were excellent. They were quick and professional. They even came back after it was done on the paint to make sure they didn't have any spots that needed to be fixed after the roof was done. So they were well aware of that and sure enough there were spots where the paint had chipped away. They repainted the spots. We appreciated the fact that they followed up and wanted to make sure the job was done right.

Ryan Oros provided a very thorough proposal that included description of materials and costs of the entire project. It also include 4-5 pages of previous jobs done with phone numbers for reference. The company works with a paint consultant from Sherwin Williams and she was extremely helpful in determining a new paint color for the house. The siding and painting subcontractors arrived on time; were professional and did excellent jobs- both in application and clean up.Ryan was there on a regular basis to monitor the job. The job was completed in less time than had been expected. I had a couple of changes that weren't previously discussed with Ryan and he was able to get them done without any problem. I am delighted with the end result and would highly recommend Aztec Homes, Ryan and his team.

It was a challenge to get three crews to work together but it worked out great, the old siding was removed along with the insulation that had settled long ago to a height of 6' then the electrician ( Frye) electric put in several new circuits in the living room, Kitchen and Garage, the walls were then filled with Icynene foam (by Eco Comfort.) and the crew watched the work being done and waited for the cue from the insulation guys that it was safe to put up the backing board and the siding went up quickly. The crew were a delight to work with, very professional, great attention to detail. I was asked whether I wanted to keep my old gable vents which I did not, they took them out and sided over the hole charging a modest fee. They cleaned up each day and went over the yard with a magnet to make sure no nails were around since I had dogs.
Description of Work: Remove existing redwood siding with peeling paint and blown in insulation that had settled to a height of 6', wait for electrician to add wiring and the insulation company to spray in Icynene foam then install backing and Hardie siding and trim.

I have utilized different remodeling contractors for more than 40 years either building homes or doing extensive additions or major repairs. My experience with Aztec Homes and Ryan Oros was the best overall I have encountered. I highly recommend them for others to utilize for major projects. Oh, one more thing they gave a $300 discount for Angies List members even after I had signed the contract.
Description of Work: Ryan Oros with Aztec Homes was an outstanding person to work with. He was recommended by a neighbor who who utilized the same company for a siding job. The proposal prepared by the company was excellent. It provided and in depth explanation of the services, materials, and costs for the project. Based on what was being done for our home it was exceptionally reasonable. The work was done by great subcontractors. The siding applicators were meticulous, knowledgable, and quality driven. They spent time explaining the product and were very pleasant to work with. The painters were great also. They were efficient, tidy, and professional. The project was completed on time and there were no surprises at closing. Ryan utilized outstanding help and was there almost daily to monitor the project.

My office is an old house that was in dire need of new siding. Aztec repalced all siding on the office, a back building and a shed. Very competitive price. Loved the idea that the cement siding has a great warranty and maintenance free for many years. Truly appreciated that Mike did not try to oversell and include extras features or items that were not necessary. Crew showed up the day they promised, and completed work on time. They found unexpeted problems hiding under old siding, but all costs for extras had been clearly quoted upfront. Due to complexity of putting siding on an old building, they also made sure it looked aesthetically pleasing how they positioned the trim around windows, doors, electrical meters, crawl space access. Painter did a great job. Extremely pleased with end result. At my home, had the roof replaced. There was also some wood siding above the garage that was rotting, so I had that replaced with cement siding. Aztec did a fantastic job on both projects and when it comes time to replace the roof at my office, I will use them.
Description of Work: Had work down on two properties - new cement siding on my office and a new roof on my house. Office - they replaced siding on the main office, a back office building and a shed. New gutters everywhere. Home - new roof with three skylights, concrete siding on west wall.

These guys get an A+ in our book! We are just thrilled with the work and end result of the project, but more than that the level of service Ryan provided throughout the project was second to none. I expect a very high level of customer service from anyone who does work on my home that I'm unable to do, and I was more than impressed with Ryan's service, both proactive and reactive. This is a great company to do work with and I will recommend them to any and every one. As a matter of fact, I already have and they're putting my neighbor's roof on now.

Other than the windows, the work they did for me was all contracted and paid through the homeowner's association as part of a massive renovation of our community. I believe we have about one hundred units here, and the majority of the work took place over the course of about 8 months (roughly May 2011 to December 2011) , though a lot of the finishing touches were delayed until as late as April 2012, and there are still some outstanding issues with their work. As far as my personal experience, they got to my unit in September of 2011. We'd contacted them about replacing all of our windows and our patio door at the same time that they resided our unit early in 2011, and they sent a guy out for measurements early in the year. As September approached and we still hadn't gotten a final quote from them, we contacted them again and they said they needed to come out and measure once again, then gave a quote and agreed to the work. The plan was to put the windows in between them taking off the old siding and putting on the new siding to make the work easier as well as less invasive. I mention the fact that they took measurements twice because when it came time for them to put the windows in, they found out that they had the wrong measurements on one window and had to order a new one. The end result is that the new siding went up, the new window arrived two weeks later, and then they had to take some of the siding back off to get the windows in, eliminating part of the reason we decided to go with them for the windows in the first place. During the patio door installation, the installers actually put the door on backwards and told me that it was correct even after I pointed out that the "Pella" logo was upside down. Eventually the senior installer (who was busy installing windows upstairs) came down and told the guys installing the patio door that yes, it was wrong, and they finally got it on correctly. After they were done, I noticed that there were spots of caulking that were incomplete around one of the windows and the patio door, and I called Aztec to let them know. They took care of it the next day. Other minor issues include: Prior to work in the community, they were asked if they'd be good about picking up debris. One Aztec guy said they'd be good about picking it up and even would use a metal detector after installation to make sure they picked up nails and such left behind. I can say with certainty that not only did I never see a metal detector used, but I found plenty of nails and other debris left behind after their work. When they took the siding off, they disconnected one of the downspouts from our roof from the pipe that actually ran the water away from the house. When they put the siding back up, they did not reconnect the drainage pipe, which we did not notice until the first big rain when we got some flooding in the corner of our basement where all of the was running in. Additionally, they disconnect the piping for the sump pump in the basement and didn't reconnect that either, which we noticed at the same time (because it was pumping the water directly into the window well, and flooding back into the basement). Likewise, when they replaced the gutters and downspouts on the garage, they didn't add a pipe to run the water away from the back side of the garage out towards the street (like had initially been there). As a result, it was just dumping the water into the back corner of the garage. They fixed the problem about a week after I called to complain. If those were the only problems, I probably wouldn't have bothered writing this, but the bigger issue was that when they did the siding on the garage in September 2011, they removed the side garage light, which was wired to turn off and on from a switch inside the house. They did not, at that time, replace the external light (and it would not end up replaced until April 2012). I noticed that when I flipped the switch that would control that now non-existent light, the circuit breaker would trip and I'd have to go reset it. Being a bit of a dummy when it comes to electricity, I didn't think much of it and taped the lightswich down so that we'd know not to use it. At this time, I was also expecting that the new light would be up in a few days or a week or two at most, not expecting it wouldn't be replaced for almost 7 months. The big issue came in April when they finally got around to replacing all of the garage lights in the community. I came home one night to notice that all of the neighbors garage lights were shining, but mine was not. The lights were now supposed to be wired to a light sensor so that they'd automatically turn on at night, and no longer wired to the switch in the house, but I figured maybe they had forgotten to do that and I just needed to flip my inside switch on. When I did that, sparks shot out and black smoke started pouring from the electrical panel. I flipped the switch off and decided to call a different electrician to come fix it the next morning, no longer trusting Aztec with the work. The electrician who came out quickly fixed it and informed that they'd wired things incorrectly and had current coming back to the house. There had been a serious risk that a fire could have occurred. I realize that Aztec took on a large job by agreeing to reside the condos in my entire community, but they didn't deliver on many of their promises and seemed to become less and less professional and responsive once all of the actual siding work was done. The electrical work and fire risk it posed, in particular, is the straw that broke the camel's back and made me write this review and strongly recommend that you think twice before hiring them. And while the "Do's and Don'ts" of Angie's List reviews say to only mention what happened to you and not to your neighbors, I'll just say that I was definitely not the only unit with complaints.
Description of Work: Aztec did some work for my entire homeowner's association of roughly 100 units. Services performed for the entire community included residing the units and garages with Hardie siding, painting trim, rewiring the front and side lights on the garage, garage framing repairs, and replacing external house lights. I, as an individual, also contracted with them to replace all of my windows and patio door, so that it could be easily done between the time when they removed the old siding and put up the new siding.

This work performed (painting) was the result of a claim I submitted to James Hardie regarding pre-painted siding installed and the James Hardie caulking that was used on my home in summer 2009. The caulking had oxidized and created a spotted appearance. Mike Dittmer of Aztec was helpful in working with his James Hardie rep and kept me up-to-date on the status. Mike was fully cooperative and supportive although it took some time. Once Mike got the approval for one coat of paint on siding, he worked the job in to get done quickly and it looks perfect.

The job went splendidly overall. The services that were to be performed were performed as specified. The work was done in a clean, efficient and timely manner. The crew(s) worked well and lost no time at all. They were remarkably speedy but thorough. The house loked 100% improved. Today, it still has a good coat of paint on it and the caulking has required little upkeep. The premises were cleaned to perfection after the job was done. And the owner of the company personally inspected the work during the job and at the end of the job, too. (please see previous section for a more thorough report).
Description of Work: After consulting Angie's List for cedar siding replacement, and after calling 4 different providers, I chose Aztec Homes Inc. for our l story, 3 bedroom, 1600 sq foot ranch style home, built in l985. Due to sun damage and subsequent wood warp, it was time to pull off dried out cedar plank siding and replace; in addition the price included caulking all sides, painting all sides, overhangs, gutters, trim, windows and adjacent trim. The company is rated A with the Better Busiess Bureau. It had no complaints listed with the BBB. They are licensed, bonded and insured. Other providers were not. The company is also very well known for its fiber cement siding, a more durable and longer lasting product. The material Aztec used was Mary's River Premier Bevel Siding. I first met with the owner of the company, Mike Dittmer, in July of 2009 to walk around the house and examine the sun damage and again. Mr. Dittmer is a very pleasant person. I really liked his low pressure and friendly persentations of my options. He knows his market, his materials and his own product. He gave two estimates: one for fiber cement siding, and one for cedar siding. His estimates were type written, easy to understand, and thorough. He offers a 2 page typed agreement. In his paper work, he also offered 5 and 1/2 pages of customers he has served, their names, addresses, towns and phone numbers as reference materials. That totalled over 250 happy clients. NO OTHER CONTRACTOR OFFERED THIS RESOURCE. The crew of about 8 men arrived on the first day and ripped off designated cedar siding and trim which was indicated by a painted "x" on each plank. . They furnished a large dempster in the drive way. They immediately began to cut the brank new cedar planks to fit on 4 sides of the house. There was no time lost. Even though I provided fresh fruit, cookies. waters, juices, and candy bars, here were no breaks other than a brief lunch break. They arrived with the right amount of house paint and trim paint. I have the etra for touch ups. The sides of the house were first blasted with a hard air spray to remove loose paint. They caulked the entire house, everything, windows, corners, around doors, seams, overhang, hard to get places, and garage. . The next day, two coats of Sherwin Williams paint were applied to the whole house. The colors matched the existing colors perfectly. 3 addtional men came to paint the sides/trim. They were done by afternoon. Everything was hauled away, cleaned up, put away, swept, and the house shinned!! Mr Dittmer keeps his word about what his plans are for your property. He is also a pleasure to work with. He inspected the finished product thoroughly. I would hire them again in a minute!

After consulting Angie's List, I selected Aztec to provide an estimate for replacing siding and windows, as their reviews were quite good. Brett Schubert arrived at our home on May 2, on time and was very personable and informative. He left promising to provide us with an estimate once we gave him window measurements, which I did, via email, on May 7. (I didn't know he needed to come inside the home to get the measurements, and with 2 college students' things piled in the way, he wouldn't have been able to measure.) He let me know that if we chose his company for the job, he'd have to be able to access the windows to obtain more precise measurements, which I understood. I did not receive acknowledgement of my email, nor was I contacted with an estimate after waiting approximately 3 weeks. When I called to ask whether an estimate was ready for me, Brett apologized profusely and said that my paperwork had sort of been lost in the shuffle. He said the bid was finished and asked to set up an appointment to discuss. We were to meet on Monday, June 4, however, an unexpected meeting at my work had been planned, so I called Brett on the Friday prior and asked to reschedule. We agreed to meet on Tuesday, June 5. Brett did not show up, nor did he call. A bit frustrated over first having to contact the company for the bid and then learning that it had been lost in the shuffle, I was even more frustrated and truly disappointed that our meeting did not happen. I called the company's owner, Mike, to express my dissatisfaction. He was extremely apologetic and offered to come out himself--at any time convenient to me to go over the estimate. I appreciated his effort to repair the damage and commend him for it. I explained that I'd given the company 2 chances already, and that it was more than most might do. He understood my feelings and asked for the opportunity to meet with me should I change my mind. Based on others' ratings, I'd like to believe that what happened in our case is more the exception than the rule, but unfortunately, it was enough for us to seek estimates from other companies.

I contacted Aztec siding after getting estimates from several other firms to install Hardiplank cement siding on our home. The firms I had contacted previously could not provide many examples of their work with Hardiplank so I went to the Hardiplank web site to find preferred installers and Aztec was listed. Mike came out to discuss our job and was obviously very knowledgeable about Hardiplank providing me with pages of jobs that his firm had done. His estimate for the work was extremely reasonable so we were getting more experience for a better price. The crew was very professional and kept things exactly on the schedule they had laid out, finished the work promptly, and did a thorough cleanup when the work was completed. A bit of custom carpentry was required to build a vent over the garage door that matched another vent elsewhere on the house and they did a very nice job of duplicating the original for a very reasonable price. Aztec did a good job of communicating things to us as the job progressed and were always prompt in answering our questions. The house looks great and we couldn't be happier with the job. All in all a very nice company to deal with.

Bottom line of this story is that our home was a wreck before and is beautiful now; we have received more compliments than we can count from the neighbors since completion of this project. Mike is a great guy and a great salesman, very easy to work with. The work was done promptly and any issues along the way were addressed immediately. As with any big project like this, the devil is in the details and the communication between Mike and the project manager/crew were at times a little lacking. I believe that a list of small details (meaning weird requests) involving the project handed out to the crew before they start would help smooth this out in the future. We are probably more picky than most people out there, so keep that in mind. The window/siding/doors were completed by the same crew. They did a great job and were very good about being on site and doing their job without being interruptive to our household during a project this big. The gutter installers were outstanding. They did the job exactly as it should be done. Briefly introduced themselves to my wife when they showed up, did the work promptly and correctly, and left. Of course they had the easiest job on the project, but kudos to them for being so good at what they do.
Description of Work: Installed 15 Pella windows. Installed new Hardy siding over existing panel siding and replaced all trim with Miratec. Installed new front door. Painted exterior of home.

Aztec came and looked and our siding, which was falling off the house. The manufacturer's siding was faulty and we were going to get partially reimbursed by the manufacturer to replace it. Aztec helped us in getting the money from the siding company. When we offically hired Aztec, they said that the chimney leak and all the siding work would be considered one job. They replaced our siding with the fiber cement board. Aztec was to replace any rotten trim boards they found - they replaced a few, but not all of them. Now we are finding completely rotten trim boards that were obviously not replaced as promised. They painted the house a dark brown, that we picked, and they had trouble matching the caulk. They talked to Sherwin Williams who said that paint could be added to the caulk. The caulk all split because adding the paint either didn't work or they did it incorrectly. My husband called them to come out and fix the caulking. Dittmer only came out once, and nothing was actually corrected. All the caulking continued to split. You can see cracks between the fiber cement boards. They also didn't strip the old paint on the doors and trim before putting on the new paint, which has caused all the paint to chip off by now. Recently, we updated our attic to a usable room. While working on that project, the architect noticed mold in our attic. He said that it looked dead. This winter we started noticing problems with humidity. It turns out the chimney trim boards had gaps big enough to stick your fingers into and was causing major leaks. I have always been careful with mold. I'm not sure how this happened, either Aztec didn't fix the chimney problem to begin with or they caused a larger newer issue. I have been trying to give Aztec time to fix the problems, but now that we have discovered another problem that should not have happened in the first place (mold in the attic), I no longer want them touching my house. Since working with Aztec, I have had to hire other companies to fix their mistakes and it has cost us thousands and thousands of extra dollars. UPDATE: 1) Aztec said: "you had a major leak before we showed up." - TRUE, that is why we hired you. 2) Aztec said: "told you that there was major damage to your roof decking and chimney framing" - FALSE, you said no such thing. We have since replaced the roof and seen the chimney framing from the inside, there was no "major damage" to either. 3) Aztec said: "I tried to talk you out of using that type of siding" - FALSE, you said no such thing. 4) Aztec said: "I made more trips than I can count to address this leak." - Refer to update #1 above. 5) Aztec said "You actually give me a good rating 5 years ago" - FALSE, we said no such thing. 6) Aztec said "you blame me for your structural mistakes." - FALSE. We paid to get a leak fixed and have new siding and trim installed. We received poor quality workmanship that has become more and more evident over time.
Description of Work: We originally called them because we had a leak coming in from our chimney that needed fixed.

Response from Aztec Homes Inc
Amazing!!! 5 years later you try to slander all my work and what I did for your home. First of all you had a major leak before we showed up. I did everything I could to fix it and told you that there was major damage to your roof decking and chimney framing. You actually hired a roofer to attempt to fix it at that time also. Wonder if his report is horrible. I came back to your home several times to talk to you about it. You actually chose Certainteed siding that had some shrinking occur due to Certainteed defects. Take some responsibility because I tried to talk you out of using that type of siding. I made more trips than I can count to address this leak. You actually give me a good rating 5 years ago and now try to pull this. People like you that make this a horrible and unappreciative process. Your home looked awesome but you blame me for your structural mistakes. Have a great future! Mike Dittmer 10 years in this business and never had a homeowner try this.

From the 1st phone call to the final walk-thru, everything went amazingly well. Mark Dittmer is the owner. He and his crew were extremely thorough, professional, clean, and know their craft well. Mark was very upfront about the length of time it would take and we would have plenty of opportunity to discuss any problems throughout the experience. We did a complete walkthru before he gave me a detailed report that covered all of the expenses. He also offers great pricing on additional services that can be performed during the siding job. The rates to paint the gutters, doors and interior porch were very reasonable. Mark returned to my property on numerous occasions to make sure the work was going smoothly and I was satisfied with the work. I didn't believe I could be so satisfied with spending this amount of money. I was very nervous from the start, but quickly realized that Mark is as professional as they come. At no point did I feel pressured. I will definitely be using Aztec for upcoming projects and highly recommend him to do work on your home.
Description of Work: I had my house resided with fiber cement board. The entire house was painted (Including the gutters, downspouts, front & side doors, and garage door).
