When we first met Mike Dittmer, we were impressed with his level of professionalism and attention to details. The initial visit he measured and took photos and asked us what our desires for our home were. Our next visit he left us with a packet and a custom proposal that was very detailed and addressed all our questions. He didn't seem to mind that we wanted extra precautions taken with the use of equipment to lessen the amount of silica dust around our family. We were quite impressed that our concerns were more important than the speed in which his job could be completed. As it turns out, the crew is quite proficient and it went quickly. We were SO pleased with everyone on our job and Mike was there too. The painting process was made easier with Chad Slusher's help. It is such a hard choice deciding sometimes and he was very patient and had wonderful suggestions. The painters were awesome! Our home turned out great and we have no more wood pecker worries!
Description of Work: Aztec removed all of our existing cedar siding and installed Certainteed fiber cement siding. They also caulked and painted the whole exterior of our home which included replacing bad trim and adding decorative trim to a large, round-top window.

Fair to poor. Aztec salesman said installers were seasoned employees of Aztec, not true, all came through a labor pool. Two days into the project, all the workers quit, new men were sent. Once complete, they caulked and painted. The painting crew, also non-Aztec workers, consisted of a husband, wife team and a young male relative. The painting was sub-par. Upon completion, the total remaining balance came due. I paid with the assurance problems would be corrected. A yard sign they placed severed our Invisible Fence line. Phoned salesman, told him the work had not been completed and reported the Invisible Fence line and the $80.00 service call. The Aztec salesman said he would speak to the owner. After several days and no returned call, I requested the owner s phone number from the salesman. Called owner, outlined problems and arranged to leave work to meet him at our home. He never showed or called. After almost ten months of waiting, decided to write a report.
Description of Work: Removed old siding and replaced with fiber cement siding. Caulked and painted house, carriage house and barn.

THIS IS COMPLETELY FALSE OF WHAT HAD HAPPENED. DAVID MILLS, WHO WAS ONCE AN EMPLOYEE OF AZTEC AND WHO SOLD THIS JOB, HAD STARTED HIS OWN SIDING COMPANY AT THIS TIME AND NEVER RELAYED ANY INFORMATION TO ME ABOUT SCHEDULED MEETINGS. I AM AWARE OF PAYING THIS HOMEOWNER A CHECK FOR THE DAMAGE TO THE FENCE. HOWEVER, THE YARD SIGN WAS MOVED SEVERAL TIMES BY THE HOMEOWNER WHEN CUTTING THE GRASS. THE TRUTH OF THE PROJECT IS THAT THE SAME EMPLOYEE INSTALLERS ARE STILL WITH ME AND THIS JOB WAS RAINED OUT IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS AND I CHOSE TO MOVE THE INSTALLERS. IF THERE WAS EVER ANY REAL ISSUES WITH THIS HOMEOWNER, WHY HAS IT TAKEN 10 MONTHS AND STILL HE HAS NOT CALLED OUR OFFICE LINE WHICH IS MY CELL PHONE. I AM REALLY CONCERNED THAT DAVID MILLS AND THIS HOMEOWNER HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT AND THAT I, THE OWNER, HAVE BEEN TARGETED. IT KIND OF LOOKS AS IF THIS WAS PLANNED.

Perfect! We had done research on fiber cement board so we knew without a doubt that James Hardi was the product we desired. After our first meeting with Mike Ditmer we knew we were dealing with someone with character and integrity versus another contractor trying to sell his goods. He explained the product and the process from start to finish. It's refreshing to find someone who will "say what they mean" and "mean what they say", that is exactly the service we received. Our house was built in the thirties so needless to say after the old siding was torn off they were met with unforseen challenges but had a course of action for everything they came up against as if were in the original plan. The job site was clean and clear of any debris before they left at the end of each day which we really appreciated as we live on a corner lot of a busy street. Paint crew went above and beyond our expectations, they even came back and did some touch up after we removed shrubs free of charge.
Description of Work: Tear off of the old siding on the house and the garage, prep for installation of the new siding and trim. Installed the fabulous James Hardi Fiber Cement Board.

The crew arrived on Monday morning after the dumpster arrived. They started on the south side of the house due to our concern of water damage under the old wood siding. No major water damage was detected after removing all exterior layers to the insulation layer. The removal of old siding and the installation of the fiber cement siding took 3 days. On Day 4, the dumpster was removed and painting started by 1:00p.m. The caulking and painting were done on each side of the house at the same time. All painting was completed on Day 6. At this time all final clean up was done also. This included running magnets in the yard for any nails or metal pieces, bungy cords to secure shrubbery were removed and all excess painting supplies.

Our objective in choosing fiber cement was to ensure that we did the job right. Anyone who has the same objective should consider getting an estimate that has all the trim replaced. They only replace the rotted section of trim, not the whole board. Mike and his staff consistently, and sometimes inaccurately, backed the crew's work. After the project was completed, we asked why something was done the way it was. The Aztec representative stated it was like that before and that their guys would not have done it that way. We showed him a picture of the house which showed clearly it was not pre-existing. But he offered no explanation of why it was done that way. Throughout the project, it felt like you had to talk to Mike to get the facts or to make sure you weren't missing something. To date we are still finding areas of the house that were not caulked, and after 4 months the caulk is cracking. We recommend not issuing final payment until you have all outstanding issues resolved.
Description of Work: Replaced siding on second floor of home and painted. I'm starting comments here as the comment section isn't long enough. Overall we are happy w/the result, but on the fence about recommending them. When I met Mike, he talked about the company's high standards and the Hardie certification Aztec possesses. Being a perfectionist, this impressed me. There were many times before, during and after the job that he reassured me the job would meet my expectations. He indicated he would keep sending his crew out until I was satisfied. The crew worked hard but not very efficiently. After 4-5 times you start to feel bad about pointing out something else you found. In Aztec's defense, our house offered challenges with several rotten window sills and the crew spent a lot of (possibly unexpected) time with these. During the project, Mike was very responsive to questions and concerns. We were very involved in the process and the design choices we made were good ones. The house looks great.

I APPRECIATE THE CUSTOMERS RESPONSE, HOWEVER, THEY HAD THEIR ROOF REPLACED WITHIN A WEEK OF THE SIDING/TRIM/PAINT BEING COMPLETED. THE ROOFER HAD PULLED AWAY SEVERAL TRIM BOARDS AND CRACKED SOME BOARDS DURING THE INSTALL PROCESS. I FELT IT WAS NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO COVER THE DAMAGES MADE BY ANOTHER CONTRACTOR.

In selecting a company, the owner gave us the distinct impression that he would see the job through to completion and insure we were satisfied as customers. As well as, once the estimate was provided he would stick by his pricing as long as the scope of the work estimated didn't change. We were and still are very picky about the quality of work done on our own home (as he would verify I'm sure). But, true to his word, all the details were taken care of and he visited our home almost daily when work was being done. Though I think the amount of trim on our home was more than originally estimated, he never asked for another penny. Looking back, some nights the driveway had too many piles of materials or removed materials from our house, and it felt a bit cluttered. Once noticed, the issue was resolved. Small thing to complain about overall. If we had to do it over again, Aztec Homes would still be our choice to complete the job.
Description of Work: All wood siding and gutters on our home were removed and replaced with vertical fiber cement siding (house was also wrapped in Typar). In addition, we asked that all trim (and we had a lot!) be replaced as well once the siding was applied.

The company was selected because of its responsiveness and up front nature about when they could start and about when they would be completed. They started when they said they would and it took, weather considered, as long as they said. They even worked in the winter (NOTE: If anyone is doing residing, regardless of vendor, recommend putting down tarps to ensure spring growth is not choked by particulate debris). The quality of the work was excellent. The clean up around the place daily was very good. The crew man had ideas to work with certain surprises inherent in these projects. I especially pleased when they agreed to take on the roofing project from the several contractors that backed out. They did an excellent job there too. I would highly recommend the company and this type of project. I urge them to continue to be highly responsive and certain about start times as that was by far and away a noticeable difference vs. the other slackers in this area.
Description of Work: Complete tear off of old aluminum and underlying cedar siding. Applied a typer home wrap before adding fiber cement siding. Cedar trim elements also added and were put in line with specs of general architect drawings. In addition, roofing was later performed as well to bail out other poor contractors. Pricing was OK - I'm in finance so pricing is never as good as it can be. Some companies rate fiber cement projects with VERY high return of investment (80-90% range). Company was also very attentive and respectful to details which was highly important. Tarp comment below was not the result of major damage to the yard - normal for project of this type - just every bit helps.

Overall this was a super experience. Mike came out to give us an estimate just a few days after we called. He was right on time and answered all the questions that we had. His crew arrived as scheduled and worked quickly and efficiently. After removing the siding, we noticed some areas that were wet and located near copper piping. I called Mike, and he came out immediately to assess the problem. As it turns out, we had an existing leak on our pipe leading to the sewer. As the plumber was working, Mike's crew continued working instead of just "waiting in the wings". They measured, pre-cut siding, anything that they could do while waiting for the plumber to finish his work. As a result, even though the plumbing surprise took 4-5 hours to fix, the job was still completed in a day and a half. Before leaving, the crew had me inspect the job. And, Mike came back out as well. We were very pleased with Azetc and would definitely use them again!
Description of Work: Mike and his crew removed cedar siding from the back main level of our house and replaced it with James Hardie cedarmill siding. After removing the old cedar, they also wrapped the area with a protective wrap before installing the new siding.

We had a very positive experience with Aztec Homes and the owner Mike Dittmer. From the initial phone call, Mike did exactly what he said he would do. He came to our house prior to our appointment, did all the initial measurements and then showed up on time and presented us with a very detailed professional proposal to complete the work we had requested. After a few more estimates, we selected Aztec Homes. Mike was on site every day to make sure that the work was being done in the proper manner. Several times thru the process we had walk arounds to see if any flaws or improper construction could be spotted. We only had a couple small items and they were address immediately. Everything Mike said he would do in the proposal was done and in a timely manner. We also would like to commend Chad who works with Mike. Chad made sure that the painting process was completed to our satisfaction. Mike Dittmer goes above and beyond to satisfy and I would highly recommend him and his company to all.

We were extremely pleased with the very timely response to our initial call regarding an estimate, the quality of the estimate, the communication and customer care shown to us, and the high quality of the work done, both in terms of installation and painting. We received what was promised, in the time it was promised, and all of our concerns and questions were addressed in a very timely manner. We recollected daily reports on the progress, and as and when we had questions, they were handled professionally and promptly. I highly recommend this organization and would and will readily work with them again.

The project was the largest undertaking we had so far in our home. I am a firm believer that without Burke & Sanders doing the work, it would not have gone smoothly. They were courteous and mindful to our children's schedules so that there was minimal impact to their day to day routine. They made sure that each morning I was aware of what would be accomplished that day and what I could expect. They were professional and friendly every day of the job and respected our property and neighboring property every day of the job. They were so fantastic we have already hired them for our next project!!!
Description of Work: Burke & Sanders removed the old siding from our home (1925 build) and replaced it with cement composite. They re-worked all of our custom wood work and restored our home to pristine condition. Burke & Sanders efficiently worked at our home for 2 1/2 weeks, coming under budget and performing miracles in trouble-shooting our older home. They left our property at the end of the job, clean, tidy and with no unrepairable damage to landscaping. The workmanship is exceptional.

I was extremely pleased with the work performed and the manner in which the work was performed. The siding crew was excellent. Cleaned up twice a day, arrived at scheduled time and worked hard to complete the job in the estimated time frame. The proposal process was handled by Mike Dittmer in a very professional and accurate manner. He arrived on time at scheduled meetings and conducted himself in a professional manner. I had three estimates from vendors and selected Aztec Homes because of price and manner in which proposal process was handled.

Mike is great to work with - very flexible and attentive to your concerns. He lays out all the costs up front and was more than happy to add in some additional changes without complaint. They also replaced a couple of windows and installed soffit vents while they were working. The crew started several days ahead of schedule and finished within the originally stated 10 days. Domingo and his men did very high quality work, especially considering the structural quirks (out-of-square and out-of-plumb framing)of the old building. The attached photo is of the near-finished work, prior to painting. The project manager, Chad, followed up every day to give updates and make sure any concerns were being taken care of. I would highly recommend for exterior renovations.

The work went well. We appreciated how Mike Ditmer and his head painter were willing to take the paint back and have it made darker when we realized the color we chose was too light for our taste. I appreciated how Mike and the head painter went around more than once to make sure the end result was good, and went back and repainted a few areas that they felt were not up to snuff.

It went well. The jobs were done separately as roofing, gutters, and siding. We initially met with David Mills for a proposal and explanation of the product. David answered all of our questions (over 20) professionally, thoroughly and patiently. We were considering other proposals at the same time and David provided a very detailed step-by-step proposal; we were easily able to compare prices for specific tasks. Initially, Aztec was going to re-side our house the week before Christmas. Since we were hosting Christmas Eve at our home, we were concerned about whether they would be able to get the job done. Mike Dittmer (owner) was very responsive to our concern and moved the proposed date to the following week. Work began on December 26th and was completed on the 28th. Domingo, the crew chief, was incredibly knowledgeable, ran a hard working crew, and takes obvious pride in his workmanship. The crew was at our home as soon as it was light and worked until the sun had gone down. Their clean up was thorough and their professionalism evident throughout the job.
Description of Work: Aztec Homes removed our T1-11 siding, wrapped the home in Typar, and placed fiber cement lap siding where the T1-11 had been. They replaced trim that was rotten and added trim to our screened in back porch to create a more finished look.

Aztec was not the lowest bid we got, but Mike included many perks that competitors did not, so I think Aztec represented the best value. Overall, we were very pleased. The crew worked quickly, and Mike stopped in every day or two to check in, and was never more than a phone call away if I had questions. I know it is a messy job, but my one complaint might be the quality of clean-ups. There was routinely debris and materials left around the house, and the end-of-job cleanup was also barely satisfactory (hence good instead of excellent for work quality). Also, we lost a few plants, some landscaping lights and a window, but Mike was happy to reimburse us for any damages. Overall, the siding looks good. There are a couple of places where I might have asked that something be done differently, had I known in advance to do so. Mike proved to be very flexible, in spite of the difficulties inherent to working on a home of this type. We would certainly hire Aztec again.
Description of Work: Complete tear-off of 2 layers of siding (asphalt shingles over wood lap) and installation of new fiber cement siding and trim; Re-decked two porch roofs and re-built one of those; repaired and/or replaced soffits and gutter boards, as needed; new aluminum gutters installed. The home is an old, 3-story Victorian (1881), so it presented many challenges and obstacles that aren't present in most jobs, as there are a number of architectural details that are quite unique.

We had previously consulted with two other companies, but went with Aztec Homes after meeting with Mike Dittmer, who presented us with a very professional proposal. Mike was very professional and arrived on time for all meetings. His price was a little lower than other estimates. The complete installation ran very smoothly, installing everything on time and afterwards painting the house with our choice of colors. We were especially pleased with the company, because they even came out after full payment had been made. A window contractor had messed up some of the trim that was installed by Aztec. Aztec's crew chief came out promptly to fix everything. Mike's crew was courteous and worked hard while on the job. We couldn't have been more pleased with the whole experience of getting our house re-sided

It all went very well. The job was started ahead of time. Mike Dittmer, the owner, was there at the start to go over everything. He was available anytime we had questions or concerns. We added some things throughout the course of the job and made a few changes, but it was not a problem. If something unusual came up, the workers were very good about bringing it to our attention to get our input. Mike also did a walk through at the end of the job and caught some little items that needed fixed that we missed. We have been told by several neighbors that our house is now the best looking one in the neighborhood and we agree. Thanks Mike, David, and all of the crews!
Description of Work: We had severe hail damage to our siding on our 12 year old home, the worst they had ever seen. We needed new siding and a paint job. David Mills explained the different options to us and helped us decide which one was the best choice for us. He was very patient, knowledgeable, and helpful as we tried to decide exactly what we wanted to do. We ended up going with the James Hardie cement board and are very pleased with the result. We also changed paint colors from the original colors the builder used and added some decorative siding work to our gables.
