+ -1 morePerfect. Amanda's crew was on time and courteous, they got right to work and moved the 4 small pine trees and did the other plantings in half a day. My husband and I felt that the price was very good for the amount of work done and the cost of plants, including a river birch and 6 shrubs.
Description of Work: Amanda the landscape architect designed a plan for landscaping around our patio, incorporating 4 small pine trees that were growing along the other side of the house. Her plans were great.

+ -1 moreWe have used Altums before and have liked the suggestions they have given us as to what type of flowers and bushes to plant. However, this particular project was a bit frustrating for me. While we were happy with the work once it was done, I was irritated that Altums had a hard time giving me a specific day they would come out and do the work. Often, I was given a day only to be told later that something came up or a job had taken longer and they wouldn't be coming. I understand that they cannot control the weather and that sometimes things take longer than expected. But my job kept getting put off time and time again until I felt like my business wasn't important to them. It was only when I said this to them, that they sent someone out right away.
Description of Work: We wanted a new landscaping bed cut in the back of our yard.

Altum's easily set up an initial appointment at our home with a professional landscape designer who walked around the house and yard with us. The second appointment was to include a written design to meet our landscape goals complete with plant and tree specifications. Although the designer was very nice and knowledgeable of local plantings, he only provided a partial plan. Unfortunately, it omitted several of the bigger and more difficult items that he'd originally said he would include. We were disappointed that we didn't end up with a complete landscaping plan as advertised. We decided not to use their services for anything else because we weren't sure that the planting follow up would be any better.

THEY REMOVED THE ROCKS, PLANTED THE PLANTS, THEN PUT HALF THE ROCK BACK IN, THEN ADDED THE BARRIER, THEN MORE ROCKS, SO NOW THE BARRIER NOW STICKS UP BETWEEN THE STONES. IT LOOKS TERRIBLE. I ASKED THEM TO COME OUT AND FIX IT, BY REMOVING THE ROCKS AND REPLACING THE BARRIER, BUT THEY SAID I COULD JUST ADD MORE STONES. IF I DO THAT, THE LEVEL OF ROCKS IN THE PLANTER WILL BE HIGHER THAN MY SIDEWALK AND WILL NOT LOOK RIGHT. THEY TYPICALLY RETURN CALLS WITHIN 1 DAY AND GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. THEIR PRICING WAS MORE THAN I WANTED TO SPEND, BUT WAS NOT A SURPRISE AND THEY CUSTOMIZED THIS TO MY PREFERENCES. I EVEN ADDED AN ADDITIONAL BED TO THE JOB WHILE THEY WERE ON SITE BECAUSE I WAS PLEASED WITH THE WORK. I DID NOT SHOP AROUND FOR PRICES, BUT LIKELY PAID A PREMIUM FOR THE COMFORT OF USING A LOCAL AND RESPECTED COMPANY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, WHERE THEY ARE ALWAYS COURTEOUS IN THE MICHIGAN ROAD STORE.
Description of Work: FULL SITE DESIGN, MATERIALS AND LABOR. THIS INCLUDED REMOVAL OF EXISTING ROCK AND MULCH AS WELL AS BUILDING NEW BEDDING AROUND THE ENTIRE HOME. MY DOWNSPOUNTS WERE ALSO BURIED AND EXTENDED AWAY FROM THE FOUNDATION. APPROXIMATELY 40 NEW PLANTS AND SEVERAL TREES WERE ADDED, ALONG WITH BACKFILLING AROUND THE FOUNDATION, FERTILIZER AND MULCH. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH ALAN'S WILLINGNESS TO REDO THE DESIGNS MANY TIMES AND SPEND A GOOD DEAL OF TIME EDUCATING ME ON PLANT SELECTION AND DESIGNS. THEY OFFERED MANY OPTIONS OF WORKING WITH ME ON DOING SOME OF THE WORK MYSELF. THE TEAM OF 3 WORKED VERY HARD AND WAS ABLE TO SURPRISE ME BY COMPLETING THE JOB WITHIN 2 DAYS. THEY HAVE BEEN OUT SEVERAL TIMES TO EXCHANGE SEVERAL PLANTS THAT DID NOT SURVIVE THE TRANSPLANT OR PERIODS OF DRYNESS AND EXCESSIVE RAIN WE'VE HAD THIS SUMMER. ALAN HAS TAKEN TIME TO STOP BY AND PROVIDE EDUCATION ON WATERING AND PLANT CARE. THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL PLANTS PENDING REPLACEMENT UNDER THEIR EXCELLENT WARRANTY.
