On the first install, the gentleman who did the installation noticed that there was a broad vertical line of chemical between the panes of glass on both glass panels. He went back to Ken Townsend and new glass panels were ordered. The panels were replaced a month later and the new glass panels had the same issue as did the first set. When I talked with Ken Townsend in Dec,. he stated that the 1st set was still at his business and the glass manufacturer representative was stopping by the next day. I asked that he let me know what the representative said. I did not hear back from him; I did not receive a reply to an email I sent in January. In a Feb phone call he did tell me that the company would replace the 2nd set. He also said that his own company was losing money on this deal....which I consider to be an unprofessional statement to make to a client. I offered to come view the glass before it was installed. In May we looked the glass over & did not see any internal streaking. Ken Townsend told me at that time he would not replace the windows again if anything was wrong...which I consider to be an extremely unprofessional attitude.. But after the glass was delivered, I noticed that one of the panels had external scratches which were not visible when viewing the glass in his shop.. I have attempted to contact Ken Townsend via phone & email concerning the scratches & he has not returned phone calls nor answered emails. I have waited a month since my last attempt to communicate with Ken Townsend and have still not heard a word from him. Therefore, I am writing this review.

Every once in a while you meet a company you'll always be grateful for. Townsend glass is that company. At 4pm in the afternoon my home got vandalized on the coldest day of the year. A rock was thrown through the front door window. Police arrived and as they were leaving I asked the officer if he might know someone who could help repair the damaged glass. He mentioned Townsend. Ken came out with his father within 30 minutes, measured and ordered the glass. A week or so later on the same day it arrived, he sent Troy to install the new glass. Troy was pleasant, mentioned he had worked for Townsend for many years, and just did a meticulous repair of my glass. Very professional. Everything from the moment we were vandalized to the moment I am writing this review, the process was as good as could be imagined. Ken and Troy, thank you, and I will recommend you to anyone and everyone every chance I get. Thanks again.

Corey was on time and very knowledgeable on the windows. This was the second Glass/Window company I had called to get a price quote. The first company did not seem to have a very good understanding of the needed repairs and their price was several hundred dollars higher. I would highly recommend Townsend Glass.

We took the broken windows over to Townsend. Within two weeks they had all repaired, including the one that was so bad they had to make a template and redo entire window. They came and put them back up (2nd story windows). Very pleased with the workmanship.
Description of Work: We have a two story rental in Noblesville. House is over 100 years old and had old fashion storm windows that are held in place by hangars. Townsend repair three of these heavy wooden windows, plus an inside bottom window pane.

I called Townsend Glass Co. on March 12, 20013 regarding replacement of the glass in a wooden casement window in our home . I was not able to have them come for an estimate until March 15, but they were very flexible and could have come sooner had I been available. The gentleman who came to do the estimate arrived exactly on time, and gave me a written estimate for the replacement on the spot. I accepted the estimate, and he gave me an expected arrival time of the glass of about ten days. On March 26th, they called to say the glass was in and were available to do the work the next day. Per my request, the work was done on March 28th. Again, the installer arrived exactly at the scheduled time, and within an hour the work was completed. The installer was very kind, professional, and efficient. I felt comfortable that he knew exactly what he was doing. Although I have no basis for comparison I felt the price was fair, especially considering it's not a job we could have done on our own.

Not a whole lot of story to tell. Quoted the work, called to confirm and made a down payment. Waited for the delivery date, they came and did the work. One of the workers made a mistake when he was at the house, but he showed me the situation, sealed up the window and came back to fix it the next day. No excuses or patch up work, fixed it the right way. They are punctual, professional, and courteous. And they are craftsmen - the people the contractors call to do the work. Great job in both cases.

We called multiple times to try to get them to come out and look at a window and a door we were having problems with. They didn't call back in over a week and left a message. When we called back again it took them almost as long to call back to get ahold of us. When we did talk to them we had given up on them by then. He was telling us it would be 2 weeks to even come out to look at the problem.

Excellent work. Advised that a potentially expensive repair to a large window (recommended by another contractor) would not be necessary. Found rot in one window that another company had ignored. Workers always showed up when promised.

They came to our place to do the initial estimate last summer. Kathy was very professional and pleasant. We didn't decide to have the work done until this spring. Ken came back to do a final measurement and his new estimate was the same as the previsous summer. The work was performed when they said it would be and they were very friendly. Shorly after the balances were installed some of the windows would not stay all the way open. When I told them of this problem they immediately came back and adjusted the balances. They were straight forward and friendly through the entire process. I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: We had all of the window balances replaced and most of the glass in our windows replaced.

Overall, the experience was really bad. It was one of the worse experience we have had with a vendor. They had no commitment to promptness, customer service , or satisfaction. We were told numerous things by Cindy that did not occur. Two men were sent instead of one. The work only took 35 minutes to complete. One man did all of the work and the other man did next to nothing. Both men were far less than polite. They were borderline rude. They did not explain anything they were doing and only responded to questions from us. They actually seemed like they did not want to be there. We were supposed to be billed for the services. Instead, were handed a bill with payment terms COD. The charge for services was extremely excessive considering the work done and the time required to do it. We called the next day to speak with the owner. They would not let us talk with him. Again, we were given Cindy's voice mail. We had to leave two messages before she called back. We asked about the fees and were told that their bill was correct. We questioned them sending two people for a 35 minute job. We voiced our displeasure with Townsend Glass and said we would be reporting this to Angie's List. Cindy said they really didn't care what we did, that they have been in business for a long time; and that some people were very hard to please. She also seemed surprised that the job only took 35 minutes. We feel we were fleeced !! Cindy represented Townsend Glass in a very unprofessional manner as did the two technicians that did the work. If the owner, knows about this, fine. If not, maybe he can read this report. If we were to send any correspondence to the owner, we believe it would not make it to his desk.
Description of Work: We contacted Townsend Glass to have the rollers on our sliding glass patio door replaced after checking their rating on Angie's List. A neighbor had also recommended them since they replaced the rollers on his door. We set up an appointment with Cindy for the work for at 3PM on Sept 9th. When we got home at 2:45PM, there were two voice mail messages from Cindy left earlier in the afternoon. The first at 12 noon said a technician was available and could be there at 1PM. The second at 12:15 said they would have to cancel the appointment.. because they did not have the required hardware. We called and asked to speak with the owner of the company. The telephone person refused and put us in touch with the owner and put us back with Cindy. We told here we were disappointed and would not be using them and told her we had considered using them to replace some window glass in the future. She apologized and asked us to give them a second chance. We said OK and set up another appointment for Sept 15th at 3PM. She called back that afternoon and said the parts had been ordered. And, we would receive a discount for the inconvenience. We were told that the work could take up to two hours and that the fee would be around $250.00 depending upon the work(hardware and time) that needed to be done. The would send one man to do the work (Mike or Troy) Also, she would bill us for the services. On Sept 15th, two men arrived at 3:35 PM.(35 minutes late). They replaced the rollers and left 4:10 PM. They also presented us with a bill for $250.00 minus $60.00 listed as a 20% discount. The bill was COD.

The glass in our sliding back door suddenly cracked on Saturday afternoon, August 1, 2009. I looked on Angie's List and decided to call Townsend Glass Co. On Monday, August 3, 2009, I called Townsend Glass Co. and spoke with Kathi Cash, General Manager. Cash came to my home. looked over the glass, took measurements for a replacement glass, and made an estimated time the glass would be received into their office. I received an Angie's List discount of 5% for mentioning I found them on Angie's List. The glass was received into Townsend Glass Co. A service man from Townsend Glass Co. came to my home and replaced the glass on Thursday, August 13, 2009. My son in law and I previously taped the glass with clear packaging tape to prevent the glass from falling out. The tape kept the glass intact all the way to the truck. The service man cleaned the glass after installation and even wiped up his footprints on the tile. I was very pleased with the result and recommend Townsend Glass Co.

Overall, they were very good and I was pleased with the results. I downgraded them a little in punctuality because twice they were later than expected. Although they called a few minutes before they were supposed to be there, it meant having to stay home longer than expected. The other thing that was odd is that they measured for the replacement window when they came to the house to give the estimate but then they had to come back a second time to re-measure. However, they estimated about 2 weeks to get the replacement window and they called within a few days and said that it was ready. They popped out the window, put in the new assembly and were finished in less than 15 mintues. Overall, I was very happy with their work and I thought the price was reasonable. I would definitely use them again.

What I like about this company is they let you know who is coming, when they are expected to arrive, and when they are leaving. They are a first class outfit, a good bunch of people. They are very courteous. We are hiring them for some future work.
Description of Work: The glass in our front door shattered due to the heat and cold. They replaced the double glass with metal diamonds in our front door that were beveled. This glass is treated and has different textures. They had to come out and remove the shattered glass. They boarded our door up while they were waiting for our new window to be designed and put in. This took about 3 weeks.

At first we thought the installation went well. However, a few weeks later we noticed that water was leaking from one corner of the shower outside onto the bathroom floor, either the caulk was bad, or the caulk job was done improperly. We called them, they came out, and they "fixed" the problem (who knows what they did). Then, a while later, it started leaking again. Same story; they came out to "fix" it. This time, they said that the caulk they'd previously used had been inferior or the wrong type, so they allegedly stripped all the old caulk away and replaced it with some new stuff. Fast forward about 6 months; mildew began appearing on the caulk, and it became discolored almost everywhere. This is, of course, a sign that water has gotten past the caulk, obviously their quick fix from last time wasn't successful. Because we were putting our house up for sale and needed to have it be fixed correctly, I scraped all of the caulk off and replaced it all. This was about a week ago. Alas! Two days ago we noticed that, although all of my caulk was obviously done correctly, the shower is leaking again! I've just called them to complain. I don't know if water is leaking from somewhere higher up, and trickling down to the bottom, or what the problem is, but we are truly sick of this problem. I suppose that I could wait to write this report until they come out to fix it AGAIN, but by this point, we feel that we are quite familiar with the quality of Townsend Glass--the company isn't high quality at all! This shower has been a headache ever since they installed it, and it's very frustrating because we paid so much money for it.
