Excellent. We have been using sundown for two years. They do an outstanding job. Very professional. Our yard looks great. Chris Carter has been the technician both years. Chris truly takes pride in his work which is becoming rare in our society. Chris never tries to upsell services like many other companies but does provide advice when he sees an area of concern. I wish we had found them years ago. Our next door neighbor is now starting to use them too.

We hired Pools of Fun to install a pool in October 2013. Due to the weather and some construction issues, our yard was a mess over the winter. Pools of Fun hired Sundown Gardens to complete the work in our yard. We were very specific with Dan from Pools of Fun about what our expectations were for the finished product. Dan met with Joe at Sundown Gardens and instructed them about what we wanted. The crew that did the work was great. The fixed a retaining wall that was damaged during construction, raised and replanted an existing flower garden, transplanted and straightened two trees, and regraded the entire yard. While they were there, we spoke with Mike. We had a couple of questions about the retaining wall, and then he wanted to know if we were happy with the rest of the yard. There was an area where we wanted more topsoil added, and he had no problem with that. He instructed his crew to add more soil and graded it how we wanted. They did an absolutely wonderful job installing a large boulder wall around our maple tree. Regardless of the fact that they were contracted via Pools of Fun, they still did a great job.
Description of Work: Finished grading our lawn after pool installation and relocated two trees

The problem, as I see it, is that Mr. Russ sold me the design and labor, but was totally absent from the project until the mounds had been constructed and planted with pines. Upon hearing of my dissatisfaction, he came out and looked at the finished product more than once, but declined my request to meet with his partner at their place of business. When I asked Mr. Russ if he thought I could mow the mound, he hesitated, then said, and quot;Yes. It will be difficult, but yes it can be mowed.and quot; I didn't ask for a plan that would be difficult. And that was the defining moment. He hoped I would settle for and quot;difficultand quot;--I hoped he would apologize and make it right. He didn't. I refused to pay the final $1500 of the invoice, but gave Sundown the option of fixing the project in the spring or discounting the final $1500 as a project that did not go as we all had hoped. I was very nice, even more so than perhaps I should have been. They threatened a lien. The owner of the company then came out, unannounced, and looked at the project when I was not home. Had he called in advance, I would have met him and discussed this face to face, but he did not. He did agreed to discount the project by $500; however, I could neither plant the 80and quot; area in ground cover nor mulch it every year for that price. I felt like Sundown Gardens was negligent in not overseeing the project, then, having creating a mound that would be and quot;difficultand quot; to mow, hoped I would settle for the lower standards. I told Mr. Russ that I had two other estimates that were less expensive, but his retort was that in hiring Sundown I would be getting not the cheapest, but THE BEST. and quot; You get what you pay for,and quot; he said. But I didn't. There were others things that went sour on this project as well which have been resolved, with difficulty. But resolved is resolved, so I won't go into those as it would only muddy the waters. Bottom line is this: Mr. Russ sold me a landscape plan that he did not, even once, oversee on my site. His laborers did not execute it accurately according to HIS standards. He was never on site until the project was finished with and quot;no going backand quot; without considerable time and expense on Sundown's part. I repeatedly emailed and telephoned him, and asked if he had been on site, but he was always on another project, out of town, or and quot;putting me on his listand quot; very soon. He was never on the scene until after the mistake was made. I asked for a low maintenance design, but now I have one that will be and quot;difficultand quot; every time I try to mow it. Again, I did not get gentle, rolling golf course hills that could easily be mowed, as he insisted that I needed. Sundown threatened to put a lien on my property and disavow the warranty on the trees, so I have filed in Marion County Small Claims Court for them to either rework the mound or send an invoice showing a zero balance. My next fear will be that, should any of the trees die that they planted, they will not stand behind their warranty. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed, and now I have a court case to prepare. If you claim that you are the best, you need to stand behind your word. If the customer is not satisfied, how can the company be satisfied? And by all means, check in at the job site before the damage is irreparable. BUYER BEWARE.
Description of Work: Sundown Gardens met with me and designed and provided my landscaping around the new pool in the back yard. This went from planning in the spring, to final execution in the fall, as the pool took quite a while to construct (weather). Upon my first meeting with the designer, Mr. Russ, I asked for rather tall "berms" or "mounds" as well as pine trees around the pool area to provide privacy. I was advised by Mr. Russ that the height of the mounds should be "gentle rolling mounds like on a golf course" so they could be mowed with a lawnmower NOT steep mounds that I had described. That made sense to me. I assured Mr. Russ that I would be the one mowing and that I would be using the riding mower which he saw on my property, so plan accordingly. We discussed the "gentle, rolling mounds" at least five times, but the 80" long mound I received is too steep for me to mow. Now my alternative is to either plant it in ground cover (additional expense) or mulch it every year (additional expense).

After getting a landscape plan drawn up, I bid out this job to four landscape companies and Sundown Gardens won the bid by being attentive to detail, price competitive and timely. I was also impressed with Scott Levy who came out to discuss the project, worked up the quote and followed through with the crew that did the work. He drove us around their nursery for an hour looking at all the plants and materials to make sure we would be happy with our choices. I tweaked the project several times and Scott was quick to update the quote and make suggestions about plants. Utilities were marked and the work was completed in a day and a half during the week which Scott promised and we are very happy with the result. See photos.
Description of Work: Front yard landscaping and some hardscaping, along the front of our house. Previous mulch was removed and area prepped, a large red maple (3" diameter trunk) and a small tree and lots of flowering plants/bushes were planted, pavers reinstalled to create a different border, existing plants transplanted to our back yard, downspout line and drain installed under sidewalk and two other downspouts were treated with river rock and flagstone. Underground driplines also installed under the entire area so I don't have to water- just turn a valve on the faucet and the water goes directly to the roots of the plants. This is the first part of a whole yard project (0.4 acres) that will be completed in the spring.

Proposal was well written and communicated. Scott does a great job in understanding what needs to be done and writing a proposal. Landscapers did a great job, the work was performed as expected, and they made sure to clean up the area afterwards. I had used SunDown last year for a bigger project and was pleased with the results that I used them again this year on additional landscape work.

Project started slowly due to concrete contractor scheduling. Once begun, the stages of the project were managed well by Sundown (Scott Levy). A cracked segment of the driveway was removed and replaced with no pushback from the contractor. The irrigation system installation was performed in a timely fashion (trees and landscaping installed during and gt; 100 degree weather, so the irrigation system was a must). Good advice provided by Scott for care and watering. Failed plantings were replaced promptly. By end of the season major bare areas caused by large tree removals have filled in and major weed issues (carpet weed mostly) have been completely resolved.
Description of Work: We used Sundown to either perform directly or subcontract the following Sidewalk removal / replacement (concrete) Driveway (asphalt) removal / replacement (concrete) Porch concrete resurfacing / texturing Planting 6 trees Landscape front of house Installation of irrigation system Yard fertilize / reseed

They showed up on time and did an excellent job. We have gotten a lot of compliments from our neighbors as weel as from the original builder, all are very impressed. We will definitely use them in the future. Also, one of the workers accidentally cut our cable line. They tried to fix it, but was unable. The first words out of their mouths, besides we're sorry was we will pay to fix it, no questions asked, or hassle. Also, they had to traverse a significant portion of our property to do the install, given the weather conditions this year, they did so with very little damage to our existing lawn.
Description of Work: Sundown came in and put in some landscaping around a recently installed concrete patio. Landscaping included mulch, river rock, boulders for a retaining wall.

I have used them for 25-30 years. I have no idea what they charge me but I'm not going to say they are cheap. I think their quality and their knowledge justify the price. We didn't shop around; we were more interested in the service and the knowledge. They aren't out to gouge you. We used the same man for 25 years but he changed jobs last year; we're still getting used to the new guy. The first man knew what we wanted and needed and the new one is just getting to know us. With the heat, some of the flowers aren't looking good and they came out and replaced them. When we bought our house the wrong trees were planted. The guy that planted them in the first place just put in ones that were cheap and big. We had to replace them. The guys at Sundown Gardens have a good eye for what looks good and what grows well. What they did with it is just spectacular. They plant things after the cottonwood trees stop shedding; it looks like wet snow on new mulch. They're accommodating in that way. I absolutely will continue using them.

I had received a Sundown Garden's gift certificate from a group of students and their parents and decided to use it toward mulching my flower beds. I had never hired the job done before, so wasn't sure what to expect except that my own back wasn't going to ache this year! Sundown's representative was prompt returning my call and came out the next day to look at my yard. I accepted his estimate and scheduled the work to be done. There were quite a few rainy days to work around, but when the crew finally could get to my job they were efficient, thorough, and cleaned up beautifully! They cleared and mulched around trees I never have the energy to do which was a big plus. The day they worked was very hot, so I came out to give each member of the crew a little extra tip for their efforts (which I could afford since my students had footed much of the mulching bill), but they had already packed up and were on their way. I will definitely call Sundown again to get my beds in shape for next summer! Now, if I could just find a class next school year with the same generous spirit....!

Overall, I was less than satisfied with the services performed by Sundown Gardens. After the initial services which included mulching, pruning shrubs and edging around the landscape, very few shrubs were pruned and the few that were pruned were uneven and looked unprofessional. The Landscape Designer I was working with met me back at our house and immediately agreed that the job performed was less than satisfactory. One of the excuses being that it was raining the day the crew initially came out, so they probably rushed through the job. We walked around the house and talked about the work that needed to be done the second time around. While there was improvement after the second attempt, some of the shrubs and trees we discussed were still not trimmed, and again some that were pruned were barely touched. For such a simple task as mulching and pruning, I would expect this service to be done right the first time (and if the weather is not condusive to doing so, that they wait until the weather is appropriate). Once again, I expressed my frustration with the Landscape Designer and he apologized and offered to meet me at our house again. While he made the attempt to make it right, at this point I was so frustrated that I would prefer to just finish the job ourselves and never use the services of Sundown Gardens again. Despite the multiple attempts, and frustrations expressed, I was still charged the full price for a less than satisfactory experience.
Description of Work: The services performed include mulching, weeding, and pruning shrubs in the landscaping around our house.
