Description of Work: McCalister came and pumped out our septic tank. I also needed a drainage pipe from our basement cleared of roots; they came and snaked it out, clearing the drain that was backing up. They came out a third time to give me an estimate on replacing pipes and to look at the state of our septic drainage field. They were very polite and professional. I appreciated the extra mile they went to give me advice on the septic system; they were knowledgeable and even said that a "fix" for part of the system probably wasn't worth the money it would cost because it wouldn't make much of a difference. I felt they were honest and would give the best possible service, not just create a job to make some money.

Marty told me that people on Angie's List get them mixed up with the other McCalisters listed and sometimes don't get that good a review. I wanted to get that straightened out here that these guys did a great job. Dick McCalister and Sons, Inc., 114 E. Johnson St., West Terre Haute, IN 47885 (Phone No: 812-645-5245 is a separate business from McCalister Bros and C.H. McCalister Sewer Service. I was very impressed with Dick McCalister and Sons that they came out on the day after the Fourth of July when they do not normally work on a weekend and helped me with my big problem of having a stopped up sewer. I didn't know what I was going to do. I will definetely call them if I ever have a problem again; but I don't think I will have a problem again because I think they did such a good job. I would recommend them to everyone.
Description of Work: On Friday, July 4th, I started washing a load of clothes in my washing machine and in a few minutes, I heard a noise in the bathroom that sounded like someone vomiting. My toilet had stopped up and sewage started coming up with water overflowing in the bathroom. After putting down a lot of newspapers, I called my brother for help. We started going through the phone book and decided to call Dick McCalister & Sons, Inc. this time. (I was so disappointed last Labor Day when the same thing happened and I had called Benjamin Franklin and would not recommend them to anyone). Since it was the Fourth of July, everyone I called said they couldn't come until Monday. When I called Dick McCalister & Sons, Inc., I was asked if I could wait until Monday but when I said that, "No, I really couldn't wait that long to do without any water to flush the toilet, to take a bath, etc." So, Clara said that she would have them come out shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. In just one hour, Marty and another fellow got me to where I could use water for everything I needed to do and said they would be back on Monday to dig up some more and to fix the drain. He and two other guys, Jeff and John, were here 2 hours on Monday morning and got the job done. They worked so fast and got the job done in a total of 3 hours at a cost of $725. I thought this was very reasonable.

+ -1 moreContacted Mr. Mccalister by phone and told him of my problem. I can not flush the stool, take a shower or run any water down my drains, they are all plugged. Mr Mccalister was not interested. He did not even offer to come out and assess this problem. I just wasted a phone call. How in the world did he get such rave reviews? I thought that checking Angies list was going to be a good thing. still trying to find someone to come out. Might as well just use the yellow pages. I have contacted 2 other plumbers on your list and am still waiting.

+ -1 moreRotor rootered main drain..sewer and inside..My son has an old home and some of plumbing was irregular. They found a root in a drain near toliet! They did a wonderful job, did not do anymore than needed. Said if we wanted some lines replaced, wasn't necessary right now but would do in future only if needed. Plus, they were personable! Best plumbing experience we have ever had!

+ -1 moreWe called Dick McCalister and Sons on the 7th and were told we needed to call to have the yard marked by all the utility's, so we did and were told a time which was three days away that would be safe to dig. I then called McCalisters and was told that they would be there, they didn't show up until the next day. They did do good work and were nice to talk to, and very helpful in explaing the problem to us.
Description of Work: The main water line in the front yard broke and they came and dug it up and patched it as per our request.

+ -1 moreHe came in with the lowest bid but it ended up being more expensive. They gave us a bid based on the assumption that they would be able to dig down and repair. It wound up being a complete mystery as to where the sewer line went through. They tracked sewage through our house which we were not too happy about and any time the city needed them they would leave. Sometimes they would come up with a new idea on how to fix the problem, try it out, and leave for a couple of weeks when it didn’t work. I got an easement from my next door neighbor to put the sewer line through their property so it could connect to the city line but they went onto my neighbor’s driveway and cracked part of it. They told them they would repair the issue once the weather was nicer but they never did fix it. They offered a small amount of money and my neighbor indicated it wouldn’t be enough to which the man responded “sue us.” No one in my neighborhood is very happy with them.
Description of Work: Our sewer line collapsed and Dick McCalister & Sons fixed it.

Description of Work: Was not sure what was going on. We tried to clean out pipes our selves, but the problem came back and we knew we needed professional help. We called at 7:15am and they were here by 9:15am. Very nice people. Their price was right there with other plumbers and I feel they were honest and wanted to help us, not just get our money.
