The technician looked it over, gave us an estimate of $1775 to $2426 (depending on which water heater we choose - standard, deluxe or premier). When I said that seemed high ( we had paid $700 for the previous heater installed about 10 years ago ) he said because of insurance costs things had gone up. Then he charged us a $59 service call. we agreed to that price but later that night cancelled the job and got it done thru Home Depot the next day. We paid $1250, which was still high but about $800 less than Gibsons. they were here less than 2 hours.
Description of Work: Came home from vacation to a leaking water heater. Called Gibson, the woman in the office said she would send technician out to look it over for free. She could not give us an average cost of replacing the water heater. This was on a Wednesday late afternoon.

This was the first time we used them. A prior company incorrectly installed the water heater. We called Gibson, they came out and were able to correct the mistakes. We haven't had any issues with the water heater in the roughly 8 years since.

People tell you sump pumps are only supposed to run for about a year and a half but the sump pump ran for a long time. It ran for like 12 years from the time it was put in. I was here for about 11 years at that time. It's my understanding sump pumps are supposed to last a year and a half, maybe two years. The reason why I knew the sump pump wasn't working is I was wondering why I wasn't hearing the sump pump check valve for a while. It was bad too. I noticed I didn't hear the pattern anymore so I had them to come out and fix it. What I got is two sump pumps. One is electric. One is run by water. If the power were to go out or the plug got pulled or the first one got bad, the water would rise to the next one and the water would start the next one. It was nice that they had an option for a backup pump and it was kind of nice that the backup pump has an alternate point of power so there's no real single point of failure, so to speak.
Description of Work: I ended up having a sump pump replaced because it ended up going bad and so I ended up having a sump pump with a backup system installed.

There's a trap to catch debris to catch water that's going through. They check the heat exchange on the furnace and check the coolant level as well.
Description of Work: The only problem I have right now was that somebody was trying to steal my coolant. Apparently that's the latest thing that thieves are doing. Once it runs out of coolant you're up the creek and can have to have the air conditioning replaced too.

When the water heater sprung a leak, I believe it was on a Sunday and the place was closed. The guy came out and couldn't really do much because everything was closed. They actually had the owner of the company come out and brought the water heater, so they did that at the worst time. They did it at a time when they were closed. A lot of companies might have said wait to Monday or something. I could have potentially taken a chance. When I say it sprung a leak, it was a small leak. It did make it to where you couldn't have really got water so I probably turned it off. I could have conceivably left it up and running and tried to do whatever, but they never suggested. They got it done and it was really nice. A lot of places probably wouldn't have done that.
Description of Work: I did get a water heater from them because my old one, that came with the house sprang a leak because there's a rod they have in a water heater. They don't generally tell you about it. They call it a sacrificial capt-hood. Unfortunately, the capt-hood ended up going bad. I replaced the capt-hood but I guess it was a little too late. Eventually, the hot water heater sprung a leak so I ended up having Gibson's come out to replace that, which they did so now I have a new water heater that is better and more efficient. They ended up having to replace the water heater. The thing is that the water heater was a regular old fashioned gas one. They offered me a better one and everything but I figured it was too much work so I went with the regular gas one.

I think overall, the price was probably reasonable and probably about average. In any event, as far as that goes, I think they've done really well. I think everyone that's came out, were employees. As far as the replacement, it was just for the heating. If you get a leak in the heat exchanger you end up getting carbon dioxide in your house, which is what you don't want, which is why I replaced it. This was a newer heater that was more efficient. It tries to take all the heat out from the exhaust. They had to have a special pipe that goes up to release all the carbon dioxide. The furnace came with a thermostat as well.
Description of Work: When they came out to look at my heater / my furnace, they found out the heat exchanger was going bad. I took that point to get a new heater. They found out there wasn't enough intake to support the outtake to support the air.

I would have given a 1 star rating but my wife said that the service technician (Colin I believe) who came to our home was very pleasant and professional. Our air conditioning quit working yesterday and I noticed the fan on the compressor had quit running. I manually got the fan to start by pushing it and figured the capacitor had gone bad. I would have purchased the capacitor on my own (about $15 online and a 5 minute job to do myself) and replaced it but I was going to be out of town so we called Gibsons who was recommended to us. They performed a diagnostic test ($79) and determined that the capacitor was bad as expected as well as a bad wire that needed to be replaced. The total cost came out to over $450. The technician could not explain why this cost was so high other than stating that they go by the "book cost" when the part likely cost less than $20 and took less than an hour of his time to replace the wire and capacitor. I understand the diagnostic fee, expense for the technical expertise of the technician and the upcharge on parts and would be happy to pay $150-$200 for this service but $450 is simply taking advantage of customers.

Fantastic from the start. The project manager came out on a Saturday and really listened to what I needed. Then recommended several solutions. I chose one solution and before he left I have a full quote in my hand. After I notified Gibson's that I wanted to proceed, later that week they cam in with a full crew and had me completely installed in three days. Seven days after I signed the contract my system was installed and running. What a great professional company and a great team to back it up!

Gibson's came out on a weekend to find the source of a water leak in the basement that had caused wetness down a wall and on the carpet. The service representative did an initial inspection and determined, after calling his supervisor, that the cause of the leak was likely the first floor half bathroom. He shut off the water valves and told me not to use it. He said they'd have to drill holes in the basement ceiling to find the source of the leak in the pipes. He showed me an extensive pre-printed price list, which indicated the repair cost could be thousands of dollars. The next day, I mentioned the water leak to my ex-husband. He checked the geothermal unit on the second floor (above the half bath on the first floor), and the drip pan was running over--a fitting had broken and water was shooting out. On Monday (no word from Gibson's...), I called another service that replaced a $4 fitting to repair the leak. A week or so later, Gibson's finally calls back and asks if I'd like them to come out. I explained that I'd found the source of the leak and expressed my frustration that 1) I'd paid $99 for an emergency service that didn't detect an obvious problem that could have led to significant water damage 2) It took them over a week to call me back when I'd expressly asked for the company to call me on Monday to take care of the leak right away (we all know the damage water can cause over a very short period of time). Weeks later, Gibson's called me back to apologize that they'd lost my ticket and did I still want them to come out! No--but I still wanted my $99. Another month passed and they called again--same answer. Really, guys??? Very disappointed.

The installer couldn't program the new thermostat and the weight of the unit broke a portion of our front elevated walkway and they didn't tell us, we found it and told them on their way out of the house. The guy had to feel the 6and quot; drop when it broke and chose not to tell us, we found it after they left the first day and we on our way out for the evening. The installers were professional with everything else. We use them for plumbing too and in the past have not had any problems and have been happy with their service.

They're really good at what they do, they offer a service plan and they keep everything in line. They do spring tune up on you air conditioner and they check the heating system on the fall to make sure it's okay. For any repair that you have to have done you get ten percent off and if you have emergency, they put you first on the list. The pricing is good.

We have a service plan with Gibson's for our heat and air conditioning unit. We pay a small monthly fee ($16) and they come out to do a cleaning and routine maintenance on the heat at the start of the heating season and AC at the beginning of summer. The service contract also entitles us to a discount on parts. In the 3 years we've had the service plan we have had to call for emergency service once. Their response time was fast. If you leave a message, they call you back within an hour or less. They had a technician at the house with 2 hours of my call and were able to have the heat up and running within less than half an hour of showing up. Over the years we have had several different technicians do the cleanings and maintenance. The office calls to schedule the appointment. They call again the day of the appointment to let you know the technician is on the way. In addition to their uniforms, the technicians put on covers over their shoes when they get inside to avoid tracking dirt into the house. All have been very professional and polite. They have answered every possible stupid question we have about our HVAC without making us feel stupid. Although we mainly use Gibson's for HVAC, they have repaired a water heater, and do electric work as well. They have been a source of background information too since they installed the unit before we owed this home. I would recommend Gibson's based on my experience. I believe they have fair pricing, like their service plan for yearly maintenance, and if needed, would call them for repairs in other areas of my home.

I've used Gibson's in the past for small and major projects (and gt;$10k). They responded to my call on a Saturday and came out same day. The service person said that one of my zone valves had stuck open and wouldn't let the system shut off. It was old and looked terrible. He was able to disconnect it so the system wouldn't run continuously. That part was alright -- it was the suggested service that really upsets me. After going to his truck for a bit the technician came back into the house and detailed how this valve, and another on the system that looked bad, should be replaced. And how it would take so much work to REMOVE the valves and solder new ones in, drain the boiler and refill, clean the burners and replace two air eliminators. His quote was about $1200! OK, I'm a pretty decent DIYer and I looked on the internet for the valves and air eliminators - all grand total $150 in parts! The Manufacturer, Honeywell, DOESN'T recommend removing old valves, just using their update kit specifically made for when these go bad, thus eliminating the hassle and labor of plumbing! The air eliminators were $8 each (two of them) - screw off old ones, screw on new ones. I was able to replace the valves and air eliminators in about an hour, including draining the boiler and refilling. So they must of planned on charging excessive labor charges for the rest of the work. So... in the end, it seems a case of OVERKILL and recommending UNNECESSARY work to clients in need! Nice try, but now you lost a customer forever!
